Devine Beast Vah Naboris

Link

Standing to his feet, he made his way inside the beast, finding himself at some sort of familiar looking pedestal that seemed to be tailor-made for his Sheikah Slate. Upon inserting the device, he gained a map of the giant walking machine.

He quickly procured his device without delay, but just as he had, a voice called out to him as if from all around him.

With a tone that hummed in a sultry nature, and a warmth that made a tingle shoot down his spine, a strong feminine voice spoke to him. "Ah, my my, there you are. I had begun to believe that you'd never come, yet, you've once again proven me wrong."

Link spun around, looking left and right, but he couldn't find the source of the voice.

"When we all fell victim to the calamity, I was certain that you would survive, you had no choice. But, I was forced to watch from my perch here atop Vah Naboris, watch as the kingdom I've served fell into disrepair." The voice spoke again, her strong tone tickling his long pointed ears.

"I stood by, unable to intervene anymore, tethered to this machine. I saw as my fellow Champions all fell to the Calamity, one by one, the hope of the kingdom vanished with them. And you, the last hope, also vanished for a time." She spoke, sounding as if she were walking around him, watching him like a wise teacher would her student.

"Somehow the Princess was able to contain the beast, and the kingdom held on by a thread. For the last one hundred years I've watched over my land, my people, my family, as they struggled to pick up the pieces and start anew in this world. I've seen it all, the struggles, their pain, their suffering." She continued, before she set her eyes on him once more.

Link turned around, still at a loss for the source of the voice.

"But then, after years of silence, you returned. And even without your memories of the past, nor the blade of evil's bane, you've torn a path through this kingdom and have made great strides in saving it from the plight that has befallen it. Though I know that your journey is far from over, for what you have accomplished thus far, my little Hylian, you have my deepest gratitude." She spoke genuinely, her voice as if a ghost upon the sandy winds.

Link's eyes widened when he felt a tall and powerful presence press themselves onto his back, arms coming to gently wrap around his chest. He glanced up curiously, gazing past her artistically decorated bosom to find the beautiful face of a tall and mighty Gerudo warrior.

She had long red hair, skin that had been kissed by the sun, sparkling blue lipstick and beautiful blue eyes.

But, more than that, she was not of this world.

It took him a moment to realize that it was a ghost that had embraced him in such a position.

"Are you at a loss for words? I presume you've never seen a woman as tall as I?" She asked curiously, her sultry tone tinged with amusement.

Link blinked in surprise, thinking for a moment, before he came to a conclusion. "You are the Gerudo Champion…?" He asked, not pulling away from the position she had him in.

"Correct, my little Hylian." She cooed, the sound almost a purr. "I've been watching you ever since you awoke. I… want to thank you for what you've done for my descendant. I've watch her suffer ever since her mother's passing, and you couldn't have arrived at a better time. I believe the spark of life has returned to her eyes."

Link flushed at the praise. "Of course, I'll do whatever I can to help." He tried deflecting, almost on instinct.

She grinned widely above him, her hands suddenly roaming his exposed midsection, dipping dangerously low. "Oh, I know you will. I have not missed what has happened in my absence. I knew you were gifted, but you've made me jealous of the life I've lost, more then I already was." She cooed lowly, gaining an intrinsic glee from the way she seemed to make the almost infallible swordsman putty in her hands, even from beyond the grave.

But, although she felt the urge to continue to tease the man, she knew he was there on a mission. "I know that you will treat her with the love and respect befitting of a Gerudo Chief, so I do not feel obligated to ask that of you. But, even still, I want you to promise me something." She spoke lowly, voice serious.

Link's flushed cheeks faded a bit as her tone took a more serious shift, nodding up at her to continue because he was listening intently.

"She's struggled with a lot, and I know she is strong, but I want you to promise me that you'll be there for her, in all regards. She needs you, perhaps far more than you understand." She explained softly, resting her ghostly weight on the man. "I do not care if you take one woman or five women as your brides, just promise me that no matter what happens, no matter where you or this kingdom are in the end, you will not forget about Riju."

Link's eyes widened by the sincerity of her voice, touched by her words.

It was something to hear the late Gerudo Champion herself ask something so personal of him, and in her own words, her own voice.

He already knew what he was planning on doing, but her request of him now only cemented his personal beliefs even more.

"I promise you that I will never forget about her, and care for and love her for as long as she lives. I won't let anyone get in the way of that." He spoke firmly, eyes blazing with a firestorm of passion and sincerity.

She felt her ghostly heart skip a beat at his declaration, and couldn't help but grin in response. "Well, that's all I needed to hear. Keep talking like that and you'll have all the beautiful ladies of Hyrule in the palm of your hand." She winked teasingly. The man flushed at her praise, finally turning around to face her as she stepped away slightly. "But, let me introduce myself, since you currently lack knowledge of my name. I am Urbosa, Champion of the Gerudo." The mighty woman introduced, standing tall and proud.

Link stood there in awe of her presence, before grinning. She smirked a sultry look down at him. "Now it's your turn to face the evil that put me in the ground, so go and make Ganon regret ever showing his face in our kingdom!" She declared, hands on her hips.

He smirked, drawing his weapons, the same weapons that used to be her own. "I will. I'll avenge you, Lady Urbosa." He promised proudly, turning to face the depths of Vah Naboris.

She appeared behind him, as if shadowing him in his upcoming battle. At this point, she found her eyes drawn to the newfound horns that seemed to have grown from his forehead. She'd witnessed his battle against the Demon Queen Ghirahim, and how his power had appeared before their battle. However, she was sure he was still unaware of its meaning, of the true nature behind it.

She could tell him now, but, she feared what he'd do if he knew the truth behind it.

So, reluctantly, she withheld such information.

He'd learn one day.

Just not today…

"I'm sorry Link, but for the continued safety of Hyrule, it must be done…" She whispered to herself, gaze hardening. "We must protect this kingdom, no matter the costs… I'm sure you'll come to understanding that one day…"

It took some time, slowly, cautiously, venturing through the halls of the great Devine Beast.

To rend control away from Calamity Ganon, he needed to manually activate multiple terminals inside the giant mechanical beast, all while being assailed by beast of dark malice, and even the machines that were supposed to assist and defend the Champion's.

But, eventually he found himself standing before the final control tower, and nothing was stopping him from taking back the Devine Beast…

Nothing, that was, besides the vile monster that had slain Urbosa all those years ago.

The moment he tried to place his Sheikah Slate upon the terminal, malice began pouring out from every corner of the Devine Beast.

He quickly jumped back, readying his sword and shield for whatever would come.

The dark energy swirled about, gathering in strength and power as it focused into one point. Then it grew, forming into the monster that had killed the Champion herself.

It wasn't very large, perhaps the size of a Hylian. But it looked strong, armed with a shield and sword made from the same energy the Guardians used. And, more than that, it seemed as if it was capable of creating a dangerous elemental force as well.

"Be careful, my little Hylian! That is the Thunderblight!" Urbosa called out from all around him. "It is the one responsible for my demise… I was careless, caught off guard… But you are not! You are ready! And you are strong!" She cried out powerfully, shaking the battlefield with her voice. "You are powerful, far more than you think you are! Now go! Show me your power, and make that Blight pay for what it did to me!"

He was invigorated by Urbosa chanting him on in the background, drawing his weapon he rushed in towards his foe.

The Thunderblight glared at him with its one glowing eye, before it seemingly vanished in a burst of lightning. Link's eyes widened in surprise as he lost sight of the enemy, and instead he went on the defensive, throwing up his shield as he prepared to defend against whatever attack was coming his way.

He felt his ears twitch, picking up on a subtle and rapidly shifting sound behind him. Trusting his instincts he spun around, just in time too as a sword came crashing down upon his shield.

The Thunderblight was momentarily stunned by its lack of success, something which Link capitalized on as he held nothing back, tearing into the beast with his blade.

It roared in agony as he tore it to shreds, before it teleported away to relative safety.

But it wasn't safe, as Link summoned a rune bomb from his slate. At the distance it would be difficult to toss it at the Blight, but he had something else in mind. He threw it up into the air, waiting for it to come back down. Once it was close, he jumped and kicked it with terrifying accuracy. The swing of his leg sent the object flying across the room, slamming into the unsuspecting Blight before exploding in its face.

It roared in anger at the attack, summoning a random burst of seemingly uncontrollable lightning. Link grinned nervously as the entire arena erupted into bursts of green lighting, all striking at random times.

"Be careful Link!" Urbosa called out, holding a hand to her ghostly bosom. The last thing she wanted was to watch Hyrule's last hope meet his end like she had once before.

But the worry was not needed, as the beautiful ghost watched the Hero use his slate to grab the lighting rods and throw them back at the Blight right as they were about to be struck.

Again, the Thunderblight had taken grievous damage, and Link had no scars to show. In fact, the man looked to be thoroughly enjoying the fight.

Urbosa was forced to watch as the beast that had slain her was toyed with in a battle that was so overwhelmingly one sided, that it was impossible to look away. It left her stunned, and made her question if the beastly little man that stood proudly before her in her name was indeed the same Hero from one hundred years ago.

The Link she used to know was stoic, silent, masterfully skilled with the sword, and always kept his cool during his battles. That Link would never show emotion in a battle unless it was a cold seated rage, usually reserved for when Zelda was threatened directly.

But this Link, this man, was different. He was battling a monster, a demon, that had killed her one hundred years ago in combat, and he was grinning. He was unusual, using strange outlandish tactics that seemed to work wondrously in his battle, taking joy at the prospect of a real challenge. More than that, he was toying with the Blight like it didn't even seem to pose a threat to him, testing out his numerous skills like it was some sort of training dummy.

She felt as if she should be offended by his carelessness, but she then realized something important. He wasn't being careless, he was simply that confident in his own skills. Not only that, he was playing it safe, keeping the Blight at a distance while he damaged it from a relatively safe position.

And the fact of the matter was, this Link, this man that proudly fought in her name, was already far stronger than he was one hundred years ago.

And he was displaying that power difference here and now in this fight…

Thinking quickly, the Blight rushed Link in an attempt to cut him down. But the Hero was too fast, and parried the attack before countering with a devastating slash that sent the Thunderblight sprawling across the floor of the Devine Beast.

If that wasn't enough, before it could stand back up he drew his bow and fired a devastating bomb arrow into its body.

It was enough!

The beast roared in agonizing anger, flying high up into the air. It aimed its blade high, summoning a bolt of lightning. Now its weapon and shield were electrically charged, and it was ready to cut Link down.

But Link grinned, and stood his ground.

Urbosa's eyes widened in horror as she realized that Link was going to try to parry the attack like he'd done to all the others. If he did, he'd be electrocuted and easy prey for the monster. But before she could get the warning out, the Blight charged him at blinding speeds.

Right as it came for him, blade poised to cut him down, he grinned. At the last moment, he launched himself back with a perfectly timed backflip. The Blight was overextended, having thrown everything into that attack.

While still in the air, and currently upside-down, he tossed his shield like a frisbee. The metal object slammed into the beast's face, becoming charged by the contact it had with the monster's sword, and as such, the Blight electrocuted itself by proxy.

As it was busy roaring in agony, it left itself all too vulnerable as Link rushed in, two hands on his scimitar. And with one fell swoop, the Thunderblight was beheaded in a blinding flash of speed.

There was a moment of pause, before everything set into motion. The Thunderblight clawed at its missing head blindly, before expanding in size as the malice that made up its body was unable to hold together its form anymore.

A moment later it exploded into a dark cloud of dust, before fading away into nothingness.

Link sighed, shoulders slumping as he relaxed.

However, before he could do anything more, a gift was bestowed upon him. Gently falling down from the dark cloud of malice was an intricately created looking heart, large and made of a beautiful golden material. It was massive, the size of his shield.

He threw his hands out to carry it, the item landing softly in his hands.

Before he could even question it, clapping began to ring out. Link glanced to the side as Urbosa began walking down towards him, one foot in front of the other, a wild smirk on her face. "My my my, you've blown me away, my little Hylian! I can feel it, even though I no longer possess a heart of my own, I can feel it beating in response to your wondrous display! If I was still alive, I'd steal you away and retreat to my chambers at once!" She declared proudly and loudly, no shame in her words.

Link's face blazed at the implication, but he couldn't find it in himself to comment on it. Nevertheless the stepped down from her perch to join him, hands proudly on her hips. "But, alas, I do not think such a thing would be appropriate for this time, nor do I own a room of my own any longer. But look at you! You've done it! You slayed that beast, and my soul is finally free." She exclaimed, clenching her fists excitedly by her sides.

"What is this?" Link found himself asking, holding up the gently hovering golden heart. She grinned.

"That, my adorable little Hylian, is my soul. It was trapped inside that monster for a century, preventing me from leaving this Devine Beast. But now with it in your hands, I'm finally free." She explained lowly, stepping down close to him.

His eyes widened in surprise, blinking as he glanced back at it, before turning to her. She grinned.

"With it in your hands, I bestow upon you my magical powers. Snap your fingers, and call my name aloud to summon my strength!" She declared proudly, green lightning crashing behind her.

Link grinned meekly at the offer, glancing down at the soul in his hands. Then a thought occurred.

"What will happen to you? Your soul has been trapped here for so long… what happens now?" He asked quietly, eyes searching the ghost before him.

Urbosa smiled gently despite herself. "I can finally move on… But even then, I find it hard to do so…" She explained, stepping close until she was right upon him. She bent down to her knees, now chest to chest with him. "So, until I'm ready to go, I think I'll stick around for a while…" She whispered, before vanishing into a cloud of tears.

Link blinked in surprise, looking around as he tried to spot her.

But she was gone.

Tentatively, his gaze was drawn back to the golden heart still in his hands. It looked like the many he'd collected before, but this one was hers, her entire self. He closed his eyes, accepting it into his being.

The moment he did, he felt invigorated! His eyes turned a bright golden in color, and he felt a power surge through his hands. He closed his eyes, throwing his hand forward as he snapped his fingers, calling upon Urbosa's name.

The moment he did, a storm of magical green lightning struck all around him. He felt the power fade a bit after using it, but it was still there inside him, rekindling itself.

After the moment passed, he looked around, and realized that he was again alone. He sighed, glad that this part of his journey was finally over with.

All he had to do now was activate the Devine Beast and regain total control of it. With that, the fate of Hyrule would begin to shift in his direction.

Hope was again on the horizon for his kingdom, and all were about to see it for themselves…
