Long ago, two races lived on the planet: HUMANS and MOBIANS.

They both shared the earth and sky as their home.

Yet all this peace came undone.

The Great War broke out between the two races.

Too much blood was spilled as never before.

After a long fight, it ended in a draw on the battlefield.

But any chance of settling their differences was shattered.

A border now exists, resulting in an uneasy truce.

Many years have passed along since the Great War ended.

HUMANS and MOBIANS moved on despite their fears.

But the big question is:

Will things go back to normal for once?

Or is history doomed to repeat itself?

One can only hope.

"Now approaching Robotropolis. Eta, 30 seconds." A computerized voice called out.

As the layers of clouds dissipated, the true nature of Mobius came into view. The once pristine white surroundings gave way to a bleak, desolate landscape painted in dark brown hues. It was the world of Robotropolis, a city built upon the foundations of science, technology, and fabrication. However, beneath its technological marvels, Robotropolis concealed a dark secret.

It was a place consumed by misery and despair.

Suddenly, a small ship appeared and flew through the industrial city, past tall buildings and smoke that polluted the air. The vessel was piloted by a Swat-Bot with only one passenger in the back.

"5 seconds, Dr. Robotnik." The Swat-Bot droned, serving as a military robot model with multiple roles from infantry to vehicle crews.

Seated in the passenger seat was a bald man with a rotund, egg-shaped physique, where his distinctive appearance featured a bushy mustache nestled beneath his long pink nose. Adorning his face were navy blue pince-nez sunglasses, while his attire consisted of a red turtleneck jacket with white accents and gold rectangular buttons. He had a yellow cape with triangular collars and cuffs gracefully draped over his white gloves. The rest of his ensemble was black onesie pants adorned with silver accents and boots featuring decorative buttons along the rim. Perched atop his head were gray, hexagonal-shaped goggles, adding a final touch to his unique style.

Some called this human a madman, a monster. They possibly even used both terms and especially the more unusual titles. He had only one valid name that all mobians recognize as he calls himself.

Dr. Ivo Robotnik.

Existing as the most prominent scientific genius, Dr. Robotnik was also the industrial dictator of Mobius. He had begun assembling robots of warfare, motorized by most of the citizens themselves. His reasons for all this prevailed as his own. The aristocrats became left to play as the source of Dr. Robotnik's money, preferring to help finance than lose their chances and risk getting robotized. As stated by the Swat-Bot pilot, regarding the sounds of progress and expansion of his empire, Dr. Robotnik knew he was where he belonged.

"We've arrived home, Cluck," the supreme dictator exclaimed, petting his mechanical bird joyfully. The bird was always perched on his chair or shoulder. "I truly miss this beauty when I'm away."

As Dr. Robotnik's vessel landed on the platform near the large, egg-shaped structure in the city's central area, the pet clucked affectionately, acknowledging his presence. Despite the pet's affection, Dr. Robotnik's scowl remained, suggesting he was displeased or perhaps deep in thought.

Even with its distinct egg shape, everything here held a significant meaning for Dr. Robotnik. A symbol of his grandeur and power. A testament to his accomplishments and dominance over the city. As he gazed upon it, he couldn't help but feel a sense of entitlement and superiority.

A short and slender human stood by himself, whose complexion was fair and matched the average stature of mobians. His defining characteristic was a lengthy nose reminiscent of a beak, complemented by pale blue eyes and a voluminous crown of dark brown hair. The short human's outfit comprised a white laboratory coat layered over a green sweatshirt paired with light green pants. A brown belt encircled his waist, and sturdy boots adorned his feet.

His name was Dr. Julian Snively.

Snively stood on the landing platform, his heart pounding with anticipation. He was always eager to please Dr. Robotnik, although his position in Robotropolis was more like that of a domestic servant than second-in-command. He knew Dr. Robotnik's arrival was imminent and wanted everything perfect.

As the ship descended and its engines roared, Snively failed to anticipate the force of the exhaust. A sudden gust blew across the landing platform, tousling his hair and leaving it unkempt. Panic surged through him as he realized the state of his appearance just moments before meeting his superior.

Frantically, Snively tried to restore his hair to its former order. He ran his fingers through the tangled locks, attempting to smooth them down and regain his composure. With each passing second, his anxiety grew, fearing the consequences of appearing anything less than pristine in front of Dr. Robotnik.

Finally, as the ship deployed a ramp to the stage floor, Snively knew he had little time left. He glanced at his reflection in a nearby surface, adjusting what he could before gathering his wits and stepping forward to greet Dr. Robotnik.

"Good morning, sir," Snively greeted as he observed Dr. Robotnik disembark from his vessel, accompanied by Cluck. "Exciting trip?"

"Perhaps, Snively," the obese tyrant grumbled, barely acknowledging Snively's presence as he strode past, Cluck still in his grasp.

"Well, it could be worse. That lout would have called me a twerp instead." Snively pondered, trying hard to look enthusiastic to his uncle.

As Dr. Robotnik approaches the entrance to his lair, the short human nods silently. Behind him, Snively is timidly guarded by two Swat-Bots. Cluck disapprovingly looks at the irritant, who then pulls out a remote and makes Cluck's right eye pop out. Snively presses the remote again, returning it to normal, and smiles pleasurably.

"Well, what is it, Cluck?" Dr. Robotnik fussed over his pet as it clucked in protest. "Does he need another head adjustment?"

The obese doctor takes Cluck and starts rotating its head, receiving a response of joy. Dr. Robotnik continued to the entrance, with the Swat-Bots acknowledging him as he passed by with the door opening. Snively soon follows, conceding to the Swat-Bots, but the door closes in his face and knocks him back.

The Swat-Bots got brought into hilarity, but when Snively sharply brings out the remote again, they regress to their guard state. Dr. Robotnik wasn't concerned that Cluck continued to mock the short human following him across the control room.

Dr. Robotnik's control room was full of the latest technological marvels. The giant monitor on the wall displayed a live feed from various surveillance cameras, giving him a comprehensive view of his domain. The smaller monitors surrounding it showed different readouts and data, tracking the progress of his machines and monitoring any potential threats.

As he settled into his control chair, a massive, custom-made throne designed to accommodate his size and weight, Dr. Robotnik's malicious gaze focused on Snively, his loyal assistant. Snively could feel the weight of his boss's scrutiny, his nerves tingling as he awaited further instruction.

The control chair became equipped with a keyboard attached to one of its armrests, providing Dr. Robotnik with a direct interface to his vast array of machinery. His fingers rested on the keys, ready to unleash his technological prowess upon the world.

With a low, menacing voice, Dr. Robotnik's words dripped with malice. "Snively, are there any updates on the Chaos Energy signatures we've been tracking?"

Snively straightened his posture, trying to exude confidence despite the fear that threatened to overwhelm him. "N-Not exactly, Dr. Robotnik," he answers timidly before soon noticing Dr. Robotnik crossing his arms.

"What do you mean, not exactly? Either there is, or there isn't."

"Well, I...you see, I...but I...err.." Snively became mixed with his words before Dr. Robotnik ignored him.

"Stop wasting my time, Snively!" Dr. Robotnik interrupted before jabbing a thumb behind him, finding Snively pathetic. "Unless you don't want to become thrown out on the scrap heap, I suggest you use your words wisely."

Dr. Robotnik was the most powerful human on Mobius. And here, the tyrant had the weakest human before him who tried to fill his shoes while he was away. Although granted, they were the only two humans that every mobian should know, Dr. Robotnik still wished that he should have him put down like a mere animal.

"Understood?" asked Dr. Robotnik, leaning down in front of the short human with their heads against each other.

"Perfectly, Uncle Ivo!" Snively answers timidly.

"I think you know better than that, Snively." Dr. Robotnik growled more.

"I-I mean, sir! Yes, sir?"

Dr. Robotnik's frown then folds up into an ominous smile. "Good boy. Now, answer my first question correctly."

"I-I suppose, you should see it yourself, sir," Snively said, twiddling with both his fingers.

"Alright then..."

Snively shivered as he listened to his uncle's dark and soothing voice, feeling a mixture of unease and fascination. He watched intently as the bloated man pulled his face away from his own, revealing a sense of dominance and power. As the shorter man's gaze shifted, his attention became captured by the giant monitor before them.

"Computer! Bring up the map immediately!" Dr. Robotnik ordered, receiving a bing sound.

"Accessing to the map entry, Dr. Robotnik."

As the giant screen activates, displaying the map of various islands on Mobius, Dr. Robotnik and Snively gaze at the intriguing display. The islands depicted on the map remained scattered across the vastness of Mobius, each with its distinct features and potential significance.

Dr. Robotnik grimaced at this result. "Hmm..."

Dr. Robotnik has spent plenty of time searching for the Chaos Emeralds, believed to be hidden on the South Island. Despite misconceptions, no one knew how to obtain them, but the round doctor was determined to find a way to acquire them for their absolute power.

"I don't understand," Dr. Robotnik grumbled in frustration. "I've been amassing a substantial amount of Chaos Energy in this vicinity. Why haven't I come across any of the Chaos Emeralds?" His irritation peaked as he struck the armrest of his chair, causing Cluck to take flight and hastily retreat from the scene.

"Excuse me, sir. Perhaps we haven't searched all of South Island ourselves," Snively says nervously, tugging his shirt collar. "We also haven't attempted to take control of any parts of it. It's possible that the South Island has all the Chaos Emeralds and is the source of the Chaos Energy affecting the other islands."

Dr. Robotnik contemplated Snively's words, deep in thought. He considered the implications of the information and the potential significance of the Chaos Emeralds being on South Island. After a moment of silence, he responded. "Snively, your suggestion holds merit. If the Chaos Emeralds still concentrate on South Island, it would explain the heightened Chaos Energy levels affecting the surrounding islands. These gemstones possess immense power, and harnessing that power could give my empire a tremendous advantage."

He tapped his fingers together, his mind racing with possibilities. "In any case, if South Island does hold the Chaos Emeralds, it is imperative that we secure them. Their power could be the key to establishing my authority over this entire region."

Dr. Robotnik turned back to Snively. "Give me regular updates on the Badnik Horde's progress and any leads they have uncovered."

The short human informs, "There have been previous Badnik engagements on South Island, sir. But their numbers have mostly been decreasing."

Dr. Robotnik's usually stern expression contorted into a mask of seething anger. His face turned a deep shade of crimson, the veins bulging on his forehead. As he blinked in surprise, Snively felt a shiver run down his spine. He knew all too well the consequences that followed when his uncle's eyes narrowed with disdain and his fists clenched tightly. The atmosphere in the room grew tense as if charged with an impending storm. Dr. Robotnik was a man of immense power and authority, and when his anger ignited, it was like facing a destructive storm.

"I demand to know who is crossing my path, Snively! Someone is ruining my plans for my empire. Are the Freedom Fighters behind this?" Dr. Robotnik shouted in anger, his face turning red.

"EEP!" Snively gave a small shriek before watching the bloated human calm himself down.

Dr. Robotnik was hostile toward the Freedom Fighters in Knothole Village, but they remained a significant obstacle for him. Despite his efforts, they continued to resist his authority and cause trouble. Even if he got rid of them once, they would come back stronger than before.

"I'm afraid not, Dr. Robotnik. Most of the accompanied Freedom Fighters have already gotten captured and utilized for our Super Badnik Horde." Snively answers sheepishly, continuing, "Particularly Princess Sally Acornia, the chief leader of the Freedom Fighters. We tried to detect if she was carrying any of the Chaos Emeralds, but we didn't find a single reading from her."

Dr. Robotnik felt a sense of pride for finally eliminating Mobius' only hope. But he also had a nagging feeling that something was still wrong and needed to be addressed. "Then What about the reduction of my Badniks? Who do you consider is creating all of this misfortune of mine if not the princess and her rat farm?" asked Dr. Robotnik, scowling down at Snively, who cleared his throat restlessly.

"We do still have most of our Buzz-Bombers out patrolling each territory. And also have included security cameras in each database-!"

"Did you think I stuttered about wanting answers?! Get me that footage, NOW!" Dr. Robotnik interrupts Snively, who scarcely proceeds to do as his uncle has ordered.

Snively is working diligently to prepare a file for the giant monitor. The file contains live footage of five different mass-produced Buzz-Bombers. They moved quickly around various locations, gathering at high or low points. Dr. Robotnik is closely observing the monitor from his seat when, suddenly, a blue blur appears, destroying the Badniks with remarkable speed.

Whenever the blur moved, the five Buzz-Bomber cameras flickered and remained static. Despite the growing tension in his stomach, Dr. Robotnik remained composed and withdrew behind his walls. He couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the constant recaps thrown at him by the mysterious blue blur on the screen.

"I believe it's the elusive Blue Blur that our recruit has been obsessing over. It might hinder your future plans," said Snively, observing his uncle's gaze on the screen.

Snively's words hung in the air, a mixture of concern and warning directed at Dr. Robotnik. The mention of the elusive Blue Blur, an entity their recruit had become fixated on, sparked a flicker of recognition in Dr. Robotnik's eyes. He turned away from the screen, shifting his attention to Snively.

"The Blue Blur, you say?" Dr. Robotnik mused, his voice laced with curiosity and annoyance. "So, our little recruit is still entangled in this creature. How quaint."

His fingers tapped thoughtfully on the armrest of his chair, contemplating the implications of this new information. Dr. Robotnik was well aware of the significance of the Blue Blur. The mention of the Blue Blur potentially hindering his plans only served to fuel his determination to overcome this obstacle once and for all.

"Should I send the Egg-O-Matic with you to go there, sir?" asked Snively.

"Yes, Snively," Dr. Robotnik said, standing up from his chair before walking in front of the giant monitor. "Computer, enter the coordinates to Green Hill, and send me the location for one of the capsules there!"

"Coordinates to Green Hill entered, Dr. Robotnik. Initiating search for the designated capsule location," the computer's synthesized voice replied.

The giant monitor before Dr. Robotnik flickered to life, displaying a digital representation of Green Hill, a lush and vibrant landscape with rolling green hills and colorful flora. The computer scanned the area, and a blinking icon appeared, indicating the targeted capsule's location.

"Location found, Dr. Robotnik," the computer announced. "The capsule has become located at coordinates X: 52.383, Y: -120.567. Would you like to proceed with retrieval?"

Dr. Robotnik's mustache curled into a sinister grin as he contemplated his next move. With a nod, he gave the order to the computer, his voice dripping with anticipation. "Yes, initiate retrieval protocols. Have a leftover squadron of Badniks secure the capsule immediately. I want it in my possession within the hour."

The computer confirmed the command, with the screen shifted to display a schematic of the Badniks. The mechanical soldiers would soon embark on their mission to Green Hill, following Dr. Robotnik's orders to retrieve the coveted capsule. As the room buzzed with activity, in the darkness, a shadowy figure with uneasy blue eyes watched the screen as it switched blurry images of an alleged enemy.

The obese doctor's face shone brightly, seemingly grinning while Snively struggled to understand Dr. Robotnik's thoughts. "I am eager to battle whoever this being is, just as I did with that royal brat's father many years ago."

South Island is undeniably one of the most breathtaking destinations on Mobius. Its landscapes are simply captivating, ranging from expansive hills to caverns. Today, Green Hill was a sight to behold. Towering mountains framed a serene lake, which in turn was surrounded by lush fields, cascading waterfalls, and verdant palm trees. Totem poles and vibrant flowers dotted the landscape, and the sweet melodies of songbirds lifted the spirit with their harmonious tune. It's a place of intrigue and wonder that could leave a lasting impression on any visitor.

On this beautiful day, everything was at peace. If anybody had ever experienced this glorious view, they would never change it, even for control of existence. A blue streak sped through the checkered brown soil, leaving a glowing zigzag trail along the pathway. It passed the large waterfall vistas, palm trees, and rotating flowers. With a blur of the wild azure skies, as light shines on its body, it was a male hedgehog.

The speedy hedgehog possessed a coat of fur adorned with blue spiny quills, with a distinct cowlick-like formation that stood out among his top and lower quills. His muzzle, arms, and torso exhibited a peachy complexion while his keen green eyes remained fixated on the path before him. Around his neck, he sported a brown neckerchief, complementing the ensemble that included a shoulder fanny pack. White gloves with cuffs graced his hands, and his feet became snugly fitted in red sneakers adorned with white straps and gold buckles on each side. Throughout his life, the boy earned various titles for promoting peace and serenity.

The Fastest Thing Alive.

The Speed Demon.

The Blue Blur.

But his name was none other than Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sonic was a free-spirited adventurer who valued freedom above all else. However, there was one thing he loved even more.

Running.

Sonic's success in several races earned him a lot of popularity. He often interacted with people who recognized him and asked for his autograph. Despite this, he remained carefree and unfazed. Despite Sonic's constant inquiries, people remained intrigued by his astonishing speed.

Sonic relished the glory of winning races with ease, leaving his competitors struggling to keep up with him. However, his newfound fame and recognition left him feeling isolated from others. Sonic was too busy feeling proud of himself to notice as he rushed in and grabbed onto a zipline's pulley with both hands, using it to slide down the cable's slope.

He let go when he reached the other side and landed on one of the pendulum platforms that swung back and forth. After crossing over some long pits filled with spikes, Sonic jumped back onto the main road and picked up even more speed.

Sonic ran at top speed through a large loop curving out of the ground. As he exited, Sonic gazed at the scenery before heading to one of his favorite spots in Green Hill. Sonic slides to a stop on the soil and gazes at the breathtaking view of Green Hill.

The area became filled with colorful flora, towering totem poles, and delicate plant life. Beyond lies a vast mountain paradise. Sonic takes a deep breath of the fresh air before exhaling, savoring the moment.

"Ah~! It's nice to see some new greenery around here." Sonic walked over and sat under one of Green Hill's palm trees. "Man, I deserve a break myself."

Suddenly, Sonic felt hungry, and his stomach grumbled. He patted his tummy and chuckled. He needed a satisfying meal, and in his opinion, nothing beats chili dogs. With a mischievous grin, Sonic reached wherever he kept his delicious treats, and just like that, he produced a mouthwatering chili dog. The aroma of the savory hot dog, coupled with the tantalizing smell of the toppings, wafted through the air, making Sonic's hunger even more pronounced.

Eagerly, Sonic took a moment to appreciate his tasty creation before devouring it with lightning speed. He chomped down on the chili dog, savoring each bite as the flavors exploded in his mouth. The combination of juicy meat, tangy sauce, melted cheese, and the crunch of onions provided a delightful culinary experience for Sonic.

After finishing, he let out a burp and lazily smiled, patting his satisfied belly. Sonic was lying on the grass with his legs hanging off the edge. His feet were sore from running all day, and he needed rest. The sun was high in the sky, with a thin layer of clouds too high for anybody, even Sonic himself, to reach or control.

Looking at the view around him, Sonic wondered why he had ever stopped. With everyone seeing Sonic as a hero, no one acted like a real friend, and he was sick of the impersonal attention. Eventually, Sonic manages to get away from such adoring crowds by running at the speed of sound. He decided then and there that he needed to get away from everything.

"Life's no fun without a little adventure, but even I need a break. Still, nothing can beat the thrill of adventure. It's a pretty great way to kill time. But I prefer to explore and relax." Sonic muses to himself.

It had been a long time since he had taken it upon himself throughout his life, and he trained ever so hard for it to work that way. Whatever comes and goes, he'd be there in a flash. "I always knew I was the fastest, but I still felt the need to break my records than I am already successful at doing."

As Sonic craned his head upwards, he could see the imagination of each cloud's shape, but most were somewhat shrouded. Sighing slightly, he flexed his limbs experimentally. They were pretty relaxed and stiff now. "Of course, I've been craving relaxation and exploration at the same time now. I know I wanted to relax, but I also want to see new places and probably meet new people."

After all, Sonic was always excited about exploring the world, visiting different places, and trying various things. Of course, Sonic had never gone beyond the border, where the humans lived, but he still desired to see more of Mobius when that time would come. As Sonic was beginning to feel tired and sleepy due to being so relaxed, his eyes closed and opened every second as he tried to pay attention to his surroundings. And due to the sleepiness being so powerful, he officially gave up.

Sonic's eyelids were now closed, and he breathed slowly and calmly. Seconds later, he could no longer hear nature's voice as he was about to enter the dream realm. After a few slow and calm breaths, he made a very soft snore, as he is confirmed to be asleep and in the dream realm right now. A few minutes of snores later, his snores were now dim, and he was now dreaming about chili dogs.

Well, at least in his memories.

Most of those memories are particularly long in the past, such as Sonic's life as a young boy, a part he despises so much. Sonic wanted nothing to do but run around the city of Mobotropolis. He just wanted excitement and adventure, not mind-numbing routines.

He believed that reality became too irrelevant and running was life in its most beautiful state. However, some mobians didn't think the way he did. He was different amongst those who had not only been orphaned but talented with great power. His speed was unnatural and scarcely indestructible.

With parents rarely letting their children around him and deeming him a bad influence, Sonic did not care. Causing mayhem in the streets, Sonic didn't even know how to react to the damage he caused. But anybody like Sonic would endure that pain for so long and probably turn his heart around into something bitter.

It became one of those days when the citizens had enough, yelling and screeching at him like he was a pariah. They would throw tomatoes at him to leave, but they'd forgotten that Sonic was a lonely child who lived with his most respectful uncle.

During all that, it was the moment when he met the strangest person in his life, an actual human being that wanted to be his friend. Sonic couldn't remember the full details of what happened, but he didn't mind until something became more family mattered.

Sonic the Hedgehog's uncle, Professor Charles Parlouzer, was a highly esteemed and brilliant scientist affectionately known as Uncle Chuck. Sonic had nothing but kind words for his uncle, describing him as a loving and caring person.

Charles, an elderly hedgehog, had short spines, pale blue fur, and bare peach skin on his arms, stomach, and muzzle. He had a thick, grey mustache covering his mouth and thick, grey eyebrows arching over his blue eyes. He wore a brown coat over a green turtleneck sweater, brown gloves, and laced-up boots, almost matching his nephew's outfit.

Inside a laboratory, the older hedgehog became busy creating a way for the younger Sonic to escape outside. "There's no time to explain everything now, Sonic. Just trust me. It's not safe here anymore. I've been working on a plan to help you escape. The Tornado is fueled up and ready to go. Leave the city, find somewhere safe, and stay hidden until things settle down." said Charles hastily.

"B-But Uncle Chuck, I don't wanna lose you too!" said Sonic, almost sobbing.

"I know, but one day when all this madness is over, I will come and find you. I promise." Charles reassures Sonic, who nods sadly.

"O-Okay..." Sonic wipes his eyes with a sniff, not knowing whether his uncle might be lying or not.

"In the meantime, you must stay safe and let your speed guide you through. But never use it to kill others, even in revenge. If you're ever in trouble, or even when you try to be brave, you just run, okay? Just run as fast as you can." Charles said, smiling dolefully.

"I-I will, one day," Sonic puts on a brave face. "I'll get you back, Uncle Chuck, I promise."

Sonic races out of the lab just as Swat-Bots came trooping in, all loading their guns to aim at Charles.

"Professor Charles Parlouzer, surrender or be terminated. Dr. Robotnik commands your arrest."

Charles sighed before placing his hands up. "Go ahead and take me, but when you take me to that despicable human being, I'll tell him a thing or two."

The Swat-Bots guide him to the aircraft carrier and begin to head to the palace. Meanwhile, Sonic dashed along the pathway until all he could inspect around him were the sounds of screaming, robots marching onward to capture every civilian, and the sight of machines hovering over the city. The horror in Sonic's eyes when he saw the citizens' body parts converted into machine-driven counterparts, with Mobius' free will now on a leash by the one who claimed responsibility for this disaster.

It became a fate worse than death.

Running out into a clear path, Sonic soon watched the sky in awe. A massive, metallic machine, something which Sonic vaguely remembered was called an airship, appeared over the Mobotropolis skyline and descended from the heavens, forever altering it. A large, rather ugly egg-shaped face was grinning on its side, and without further warning, the bottom opened up.

Sonic could see more hordes of robots stooping onto the street, and the homes exploded with a crash as they opened fire. Sonic honestly had no idea what in the world was going on, but he knew one thing: robots who were currently attacking bystanders and putting them in handcuffs showed signs of trouble.

Running through the trees, the boy ran into more chaos, unable to stop the robots from taking down every last mobian. Even little animals alike were being tackled and pinned as the metal horde went onward mercilessly. The world around Sonic became a blur as he weaved between trees and robots, noting with relief that the latter were decreasing in number.

Every robot was in the process of rounding up mobians and taking them back to that metal monster in the skies above the city. Sonic shuddered at the thought of his uncle becoming a hostage. Everything became abruptly cut off with a loud squealing noise, the kind that microphones emitted when too close to a karaoke machine. Crying out in surprise, the more sensitive Sonic clamped his hands over his ears, wincing as the squealing died away.

"GREETINGS, CITIZENS OF MOBOTROPOLIS!" A booming voice echoed throughout Mobotropolis, making it seem omnipresent. "AS OF NOW, EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU IS ALL UNDER MY CONTROL, SO LET ME INTRODUCE MYSELF! THE INGENIOUS DOCTOR IVO ROBOTNIK, SOON TO BE THE SUPREME RULER OF THE ROBOTNIK EMPIRE! AND THIS CITY IS THE FIRST OFFICIAL STATE IN MY NEW REALM! ROBOTROPOLIS! MY ROBOTS ARE NOW PATROLLING EVERYTHING, SO IF ANY OF YOU TRY AND THINK ABOUT ESCAPING, THERE'S NO HOPE FOR IT! BWAHAHAHAHA!"

The voice of that madman echoed away, leaving Sonic in a state of pained fury. A tightness in his throat formed as a wave of overwhelming anxiety flooded into Sonic, and feels something watery forming in his eyes. Soon, an array of missiles shot straight for Uncle Chuck's home until it exploded. Tears leaked from his eyes, and the child repeated with denial before sprinting farther into the forest.

The smog in the sky, decorated by the brightness of fires, let Sonic know that Uncle Chuck, his only family, was gone. Thankfully enough, Sonic did find where his father's biplane had remained. Sonic always had been extraordinarily quick to learn new skills in operating vehicles, especially when driving and racing at high speeds. The young hedgehog fired up the engine until he made it through the skies.

Unfortunately, thanks to air pollution invigorating all over Mobotropolis, it darkened the clouds above the ocean to intensify a brewing storm. Sonic started to stir crazily and tied the Tornado's controls in place while he stretched on the plane's wings. A stray higher pressure pocket affected the level flight of the biplane, and it steeply banked to the right.

The biplane veered off its intended course, shooting toward the small chain of varying tropical islands. Taken by surprise, Sonic only had time to grab hold of the biplane's wing as it began to bank sharply. The Tornado's path began changing as it got caught in a spin. Luckily, Sonic managed to clamber along the wing. The wind rushed past him threatening to throw him off. He forced his way back to the biplane's controls.

Sonic struggled to wrestle the Tornado's controls straight until he saw something that chilled him to the bone. Becoming graver for Sonic, strokes of lightning bolts within the dense clouds came and delivered a sudden blow upon one of the Tornado's wings.

The wing was heavily damaged, and the young hedgehog struggled to keep his biplane level. He had no choice but to land the Tornado at the first available time. Sonic twisted the controls, causing the biplane to turn awkwardly through the air. He looked down and noticed a reasonably flat beach below.

Sonic tried moving but got into a struggle with unbuckling his seatbelt. It clicked the moment before another lightning bolt came to a violent shock in Sonic. He accidentally fell off the biplane into a chaotic ocean of mangled waves and jagged rocks. The Tornado landed across an area until it finally came to a brutal collision. Sonic got swallowed by the inky black abyss of the underwater world before he could even scream.

The sensation of water filling his lungs made the young hedgehog twist and turn all around. Adrenaline and fear coursed through his veins as he struggled to swim to the surface. Coughing and spluttering, Sonic brought his head above water for a second until, out of nowhere, more waves soared overhead as they smashed the young hedgehog down deeper.

Sonic gasped as pain blossomed anew on his forehead, and the water around him suddenly tinted red when he got shoved toward one of the rocks. He was the fastest on land, but the ocean's natural rhythm had him beat. The waves repeatedly pounded him into the rocks, and the currents kept bringing him down. Sonic's body was broken and bleeding, the blood tinting the stinging salt water around him.

Another wave washed over him, and as bubbles swirled around him, Sonic realized there was no use fighting against the ocean.

He was going to drown.

"I'm sorry, Uncle Chuck…" thought Sonic as his lungs gave out.

Suddenly, a dark shape fell into the water with its arms stretched out, reaching toward him. Sonic felt too weak and defeated to comprehend anything else until his world became black.

Thrashing in place, Sonic gasped and shuddered, and he woke up with a start, blinking. His head swam as he felt the sensation of falling, and all he remembered was that Uncle Chuck was gone. Uncle Chuck's absence weighed heavily on Sonic's mind. The memory of their separation gnawed at his thoughts, sending fear coursing through his veins.

The uncertainty surrounding his beloved uncle's whereabouts intensified the knot in his stomach, making him physically curl up, seeking comfort and stability. Sonic's trembling hands reached out, clutching the grass beneath him as if clinging onto something tangible amidst the emotional turmoil. The blades of grass provided a grounding sensation, connecting him to the present moment. He tried to steady his breathing, inhaling deeply to calm his racing heart.

Sonic had to make sense of the moment, trying to make sense of a world without his uncle. It was near impossible, though. He couldn't rationalize it. The mere idea made him feel sick, making his head swim and his eyes almost well with tears. Nobody to make chili dogs with, to help organize the laboratory with, or to hug and comfort him after a bad dream.

What was life without Uncle Chuck?

What would it feel like to him?

Cold, Sonic knew, and empty.

As cold as Sonic felt when he became homeless, stealing food, searched for places to sleep, staying alive during the harsh seasons, and protected himself from the dangers outside of the world. Sonic felt, keenly, the sensation of loss, even as his head began to clear the cobwebs of sleep, and it made him clench his teeth and squeeze his eyes shut in denial of the moment.

Uncle Chuck was not here but not gone.

Sure, Sonic was devastated, shattered, even when he couldn't save somebody dear who once lived, breathed, and laughed, but he knew that his uncle had to be okay somewhere. Sonic needed to know where he could find him.

Including her too...

Before Sonic could ponder on this situation of his, he heard a motor turning on. Looking to his right, Sonic saw what seemed to be three ladybug-type Badniks called Moto-Bugs, and they were chasing after a tiny frantic bunny.

"Whoa, now!" Sonic shouted aloud as he dashed in to swoop up the little critter before one of those Moto-Bugs could do more harm.

Taking a good look at each ladybug-based Badnik, Sonic had a deadpanned face while the tiny bunny sheltered behind him. "Well, don't see that every day. Is there any reason you bolt-brains are chasing this little-?"

No other words came out as Sonic quickly dodged a Moto-Bug's claw armaments, swiping and slashing away at him. With enough instinct, the blue hedgehog somersaulted and ran away from the Moto-Bugs. But he allowed them to catch up.

"Whoa, you guys sure are fast!" Sonic snickered, showing a burst of confidence. "But let's see you dodge this!"

Sonic then rolled into a speedy ball and drove straight into one Moto-Bug, allowing a small bird known to flutter out. The blue hedgehog felt dizzy with excitement before noticing the critter flying off.

"What's with the whole critter-n-robot thing going on around here?" Sonic crossed his arms with a frown, tapping a foot and wondering who's the wise guy for doing this. "Seriously, I got to find wherever this dude goes off putting these little guys in some bots!"

"You are wanted for illegal activities against the Robotnik Empire. Seize Priority One Hedgehog." A Moto-Bug droned.

Sonic jumped and sat on one of the other Moto-Bugs, grabbing its antennas. "Yeehaw! Get along little dumb-bots!"

He tilted them right, which causes the Moto-Bug to drive toward the other one. Sonic somersaulted again and landed safely onto the grassy ground right after the two Moto-Bugs impacted and exploded. It allowed a rabbit and another bird to escape safely.

"Three points for Sonic the Hedgehog!" he cheered, making a bow to the fake audience. "Thank you. Thank you-YIKES!"

The blue speedster jolts back into surprise when he saw lasers almost hit him, "Where did that...?"

Sonic then heard the sounds of buzzing and a jet engine. Peering over the shore, he saw a horde of bee-based Badniks. These models were called the Buzz-Bombers, and following behind them was a small flying metal containment unit.

"This just gets things interesting..." Sonic muttered under his breath.

The Buzz-Bombers quickly detected Sonic's presence and dived toward him. The cavalry charge causes Sonic to unleash a bolt right through them, freeing the birds and rabbits inside them.

"Hahaha!" Sonic laughed as he couldn't help but feel the acceleration. "Come and get me, you wax-droppers!"

The spiky speedster then dashes away, with the rest of the horde giving him a chase. They began firing their rail detonators at their blue target, who kept sprinting and side-stepping out of the way. Once they came up to a loop structure, Sonic smirks as he ran halfway up on it before jumping into his ball form, smashing through the Buzz-Bombers and freeing the critters inside.

Only a few were left over as all of them open fire on the blue hedgehog. Sonic leaped again high into the air within his ball form. Blue energy swirled around him, and Sonic shot back at the bee-based Badniks like he had gotten fired from a cannon. He impacted one of the Buzz-Bombers, sending it flying through the wall of checkered soil. The others turned to fire, but he had vanished.

"Search for Priority One Hedgehog."

One of them hovered to the spot where Sonic had beaten its comrade and found a small burrow in the ground. Before the Buzz-Bomber could warn its leftover horde, a blue blur flew out of the hole, still curled up, and smashed into its head.

Sonic begins to mock the remaining Buzz-Bombers. "Here I am, slug-heads. Give me your best shot!"

The blue hedgehog didn't wait for the Buzz-Bomber to drop as he charged for the others. Three of the bee-based models had come together and fired at Sonic. Quickly, Sonic curled into a ball again and sped forward to avoid their rail detonators. Sonic had stopped in the center of the group and uncurled. The speedy hero lashed out with lightning-speed punches and kicks.

He had destroyed the three Buzz-Bombers in less than a minute. The leader of the horde called in the last four of its remaining numbers who were still alive. They surrounded the blue hedgehog while their rail detonators continue to aim at him.

Sonic looked around at the damaged area. "Social visit?"

Just then, Sonic curled into a ball and began to spin in place like a buzz saw. Smoke started to flow from where he came in contact with the grass. The four other Buzz-Bombers seemed to be memorized by the strange sight.

"Seize Priority One Hedgehog."

Snapped out of daze by the leader's order, they fired their rail detonators. Before the darts could reach their target, Sonic shot forward with blue light trailing behind him. He slammed into the four Badniks like a blue pinball and sent each of them flying, then obliterated onto the ground. Sonic continued charging at the last Buzz-Bomber, who recoiled to avoid him. Sonic stopped and stood up a few feet away from the bee-based robot.

The Buzz-Bomber tried to fire its rail detonator, only to have been sliced in half along with its body, finished off in the process. Unbeknownst to the speedy hero, however, a robotic beeping sound came from underneath a large palm tree, eyes observing through the canopy of the palm trees to the grassy fields that rested on the side of Green Hill.

"Priority One Hedgehog is disputing the Badnik Horde, Dr. Robotnik." A robotic voice droned.

A fly-based robot called the Fly-Bot was floating outside from the palm trees, followed by a digital sound from the mad genius wondering audibly with a dark chuckle.

"Hehehe! We'll see about that..." Dr. Robotnik's voice drawled so sleekly.

Rolling out from his ball form, Sonic eventually skipped up to his feet and checks around the place for any more of those robots. Quickly enough, Sonic took notice of easy Badnik sightings from afar in all sorts of mass-producible varieties.

"Heh, looks like I got some more bots to smash. Time to show these bolt-brains what happens when you trash one of my favorite turfs."

With that becoming said, Sonic hopped down toward the sloping ground to dash onward to the first Badnik he perceives, causing a few Moto-Bugs to assail. The blue hedgehog observed a Buzz-Bomber flying behind him, for which he smirked in response to jump onto one Moto-Bug in the middle. Before the Badniks tried to intervene, Sonic spun vertically around with one hand and kicked each of them in the face.

Then Sonic forces the last Moto-Bug the crash with both feet, backflipping onto the grass. Seeing each Badnik explode and already releasing a small animal, Sonic smiles and heads onto the next couple of robots from pools of water under bridges to attack the blue hedgehog when he approached. They were piranha-based Badniks called Choppers. Although much of their attacks rely on the element of surprise, Sonic easily dodged and sidestepped to destroy each one with a simple spin attack while they are above the bridges.

Unknown to the blue hedgehog, running across a pathway, his eyes couldn't notice the next part as something invisible spit out an energy ball at him. That caused Sonic to slip and fall face-first to the ground roughly, making him spit out dirt and glaring back at two of his attackers. There were two chameleon-based Badniks called Newtrons, laughing when they caused Sonic to fall. Sonic grits his teeth before getting back up in a running motion toward the two Newtrons clinging to the side of a cliff, spinning up to bash through one of the Newtrons. Then sails back down in a blue ball of destruction to kick the second Newtron until destroyed, freeing the little critters.

Still rolling in a blue ball, Sonic bounced up to his feet with arms out in perfect motion. Sonic puts himself into a running position again after giving a peace sign to the little critter before taking off once more. Sonic started gathering up more speed to unleash a series of parkour around the palm trees, the orange chequered hillsides, and many more. But suddenly, a blue-colored Newtron became visible, dropping from the wall and morphing into a rocket to chase after Sonic.

The two took different directions here and there, where Sonic springs up to chokeslam a Buzz-Bomber down during the chase. The Newtron soon ambushed Sonic and tried swiping him with its tail, in which Sonic dodges and hops over the chameleon-type robot while it chases after in a hissing fit. Sonic earned his way onto the back of the Newtron and sat like a rodeo bull ride, then held on while the Newtron rocketed all over the place.

A Moto-Bug rushed by in search of Sonic before its eyes bulged out wide at the sight of Sonic riding a Newtron crashing through the ladybug-based Badnik, destroying both robots while Sonic rolled down the hill. Just as he finished rolling, Sonic laughed to himself with a smile before a shadow appeared above him, taking note of a large projectile ball coming down to him.

Sonic shrieked as he pushed himself out of the way to escape the flashy impact, panting as he quickly checks out a crab-based Badnik named Crab-Meat. It shot off another energy ball as Sonic zooms across the field to avoid more of the Crab-Meat's energy ball emission. Jumping high into the air, Sonic performed a frontflip hammer kick that destroyed the Crab-Meat and freed another critter before entering a winding tunnel. Creating a faster pace, Sonic shot off like a bullet out on the other side to swing a kick onto a Buzz-Bomber.

Sonic landed firmly onto the ground, shaking the dust off his hands at the view of destroyed robot parts and pieces. "Well, that should be all of them. I'm so not looking forward to cleaning this mess up later. I guess I'll find whoever is behind this and put them to work on it. There's got to be a clue that explains what's going on around here."

Green Hill was usually referred to as its very own tranquility, with small birds flying around and songs filling the air. But instead, Sonic hears a noise in which he follows toward a flat field with palm trees.

"Something here is mondo strange," Sonic said, his eyes scrolled through the surrounding area.

The critters became absent as it sets their fur or feathers on edge. A clear breeze lingered in the air. It was subtle, though, especially with the capsule next to the palm trees. But not only just that, Sonic's eyes quickly spotted what appears to be an abandoned wooden bow that became used for archery. He went to go pick up the ranged weapon while inspecting how beautifully detailed it seemed.

"What's this doing here?" Sonic asks, rubbing his head with a finger.

"Bravo! Bravo! An extraordinary performance." A voice called aloud somewhere out of Sonic's sight while clapping. "I will admit it was quite fun to watch..."

The speedy hedgehog raised an eyebrow before looking up to see what it was. It was a hovercraft with a very distinctive egg-like shape, floating down to reveal itself as none other than Dr. Robotnik.

"...but it ends here and now, rodent."
