(New update is here. Hope you all enjoy it.)

Death Fury: Thanks.

Killiain rainey: Love Swamp Thing. As to allies you'll see. The League have the expected reaction to the Wolves. If it was revealed in our reality beings like therians and vampires truly existed instead of being 'rumors' and people's possible encounters, so much of humanity would go out to seek them to be controlled, experimented on, their nature turned to/back to human, killed, etc. We saw how DC views vampires by making Batman say they don't deserve the same protections as humans/metahumans (I hated DC vs Vampires). Well you'll see here what the League is doing.

Chapter 37: Prepping with Contingencies

(The Watchtower, the next day)

Batman typed commands on the computer with Superman and Wonder Woman standing to either side of him. The Dark Knight had the images of the technology originating from Apokolips with charts surrounding them.

"Apokoliptan technology won't be stopped by most of the defense systems the United Nations have at their current disposal. Captain Atom and the Atom have been working with their scientists to develop more powerful weapons and defensive measures with the technology that could be salvaged from the Kroloteans and the Reach."

Superman rubbed his chin.

"What Reach technology has been reengineered?"

"Blue Beetle and his scarab have been at S.T.A.R. labs advising their scientists on finding ways to recreate and improve the Reach's Beetle Tech Drones. With S.T.A.R. labs connecting to certain companies they'll be mass producing them."

"We'll need as many as we can get."

"Yes and their programming must recognize friendly forces and civilians to decrease damage to anything other than our enemies."

"What are the plans for the bunkers?"

Batman didn't turn to Wonder Woman as he answered.

"They're still under construction though they're close to being finished. The larger cities will be given the main focus for them as Apokolips will logically target the largest population centers. Energy shields based on those used by Despero are being designed to protect them. There will be access for civilians to go in and out if needed as well as our access to them."

"We will need to send out the alarm at a moment's notice. Apokolips will likely have the Warworld given Vandal Savage's attack failed. That's another threat we have to prepare for."

"The strategy the team used last time to disable it probably won't be effective if that strategy is attempted again. Vandal Savage would have created countermeasures for such a tactic, more security in both robots and soldiers. Apokolips will have discovered this and made things more dangerous."

"Than Leaguers should be sent to destroy it?"

"Destroying it might cause the debris to fall to Earth and cause more damage. Taking it over will have to be on the table for strategies for it despite the risk. If someone can take control of it, we might be able to possibly use its weapons against Apokolips. Still, we should consider other possibilities."

"As you said, Apokolips will have made the Warworld more dangerous. We cannot ignore it."

"If we're pushing to send a strike team, they'll need to be carefully considered.."

"Who do you have in mind?"

"This is something we will need to deliberate more on. Potential individuals from both the League and team would be Captain Atom, Red Tornado, Icon, Blue Beetle, Arsenal, Superboy…just to name a few."

Wonder Woman nodded. Superman looked over the designs of the Reach technology in the catalogs in the Watchtower's computer.

"We also need to consider using tools and weapons from other past enemies as well."

"I have."

The Dark Knight pushed a button as two more images appeared on screen before the Trinity of the Justice League. The images of Professor Ivo's Amazo and MONQIs were the subject. Superman's eyes narrowed.

"Amazo I understand…but the Monkey bots?"

"The MONQIs will be used as guides for civilians to reach the bunkers. They'll be programmed to know the safest routes to them and to adapt to any situation where that may be blocked or don't have the time to clear the way through. They'll also have to be the guards for civilians and the bunkers."

"The team dealt with them fairly well enough when Ivo used them against us. I don't know how well they'd be suited for defending civilians."

"That's why the salvaged robots we collected and new designs for them I created were sent to LexCorp. With Lena Luthor not sharing her brother's worst traits, she's promised to create better versions of Ivo's robots. And she was also sent the salvaged parts of Amazo with all the notes I and the Atom analyzed from the original."

Superman grimaced.

"I'm still not sure we can trust a Luthor."

Wonder Woman put a hand on her friend's shoulder.

"Kara vouched for her. They've grown close since she arrived on Earth. Trust Kara at least."

"I do…I'm just hoping we don't find out too late Lena is just like her brother."

"I know. And for the machines we'll be employing, they have to be immune to hacking. If we have all these things turn on us or civilians, it will be a massacre."

The Dark Knight nodded.

"I've tasked the Atom to send out designs for each of the machines to have firewalls and internal defense systems. Also, Bruce Wayne has recently announced his intent to create his own machines to aid in the Earth's defense."

Superman chuckled.

"Really?"

"From the suggestion of certain parties, the Battle Analysis Tactical Sentries are being built and tested."

"BATS? And 'certain parties'?"

Wonder Woman grinned.

"You must be careful Bruce, people might start to suspect something."

Batman grunted.

"The sentries are being analyzed by engineers and scientists while they're being manufactured."

"Good. We also have to search for more potential Leaguers. Didn't you say there were a few women that you know of that could join us, Bruce?"

"Batwoman and Katana."

"Two capable women. We do need more warriors for what's to come."

Superman nodded.

"With Fire and Ice being new members, I say you've got four more capable women on the team."

Wonder Woman smiled as Superman returned hers with one of his own. Batman grunted as he looked over a list the League had been making to decide on new members.

"Even though I'm not fond of him, Guy Gardner would also need to be approached."

Wonder Woman grinned.

"I heard you knocked him out with a single punch when he tried to fight you over that misunderstanding."

"I did, but that's not what's important. We'll send a Leaguer who'll be able to get him on the team. There's also another Green Lantern, Jessica Cruz. Hal and John have informed me that she's dealing with severe anxiety and depression after surviving a traumatic experience. We'll need to send Black Canary to talk with her and help her, perhaps Hal and John as well to help convince her."

Wonder Woman nodded.

"If she is a Green Lantern, she's one for a reason. I'll talk with her also."

"That might be needed. Hal and John also informed me that they've sent out word to the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps, they're hoping the S.O.S. will reach them in time to arrive to help Earth."

Superman rubbed his chin.

"How many do you think might come?"

"Hal and John requested as many Lanterns that could be sent."

"We'll need as many as they can send."

Batman continued to type on the computer, the images of the machines and people the Trinity of the League discussed closed. In their place came images of medieval and ancient images of werewolves. Superman sighed.

"So we've come to this then?"

"While the werewolves are a secondary problem, they are a problem. I've been going over every bit of lore, theories, historical accounts, and rumors as I could discover. I have also been speaking with Dr. Fate on this matter."

"So what? Is their only weakness silver?"

"That is only one…unfortunately they have very few vulnerabilities. And it would seem the older they become the more powerful they get, though with the wild spaces decreasing and the wolf populations dropping, they are also vulnerable as their curse is tied with these natural factors. If we had been attacked by younger werewolves their attack wouldn't have succeeded."

Wonder Woman shook her head.

"I had thought their origin was the punishment done to Lycaon and his son by my father, not being nearly as powerful as these creatures were."

Superman turned to her.

"You couldn't have known. These creatures appeared to be what that story told."

"I should have known. I had run across the grisly work of one years ago."

Batman turned to Wonder Woman as well, his eyes narrowed while Superman's widened with the latter speaking first.

"You have?"

"You haven't told us this till now? Explain."

Wonder Woman sighed as she leaned against a nearby wall.

"It was during World War II in the final year, the Justice Society and I had met a rather rambunctious group of POWs who had been working as successful spies and saboteurs because the Kommandant of the camp they were in was a fool. They had been ordered to work with us to liberate a concentration camp that had just started taking in new prisoners. They had said they had been working with an unknown individual who was capable of shocking feats. This unknown individual had only revealed they weren't part of any of the Allied forces though they were staunchly against the Nazis. They had helped them with a few missions and when their group was ordered to wait for our support to liberate the camp, they had gone on to 'scout'. When we arrived, the survivors had already escaped the camp with the Nazis' dogs guiding them out of the camp. The poor souls had revealed the same stranger had freed them and somehow commanded the dogs to guide them out of the camp and to protect them. As we were staring in shock, we heard…we heard a horrific cacophony of sounds."

The Dark Knight didn't show any signs of surprise while the Man of Steel listened intently, the former speaking.

"What did you hear?"

"...Screams…screams of terror and agony…and also sounds that at times rose above the screams…growls and roars, they were deafening. The military detail that traveled with us remained behind to protect the survivors while the Society and the POW spies rushed to the camp along with the dogs at the time some hadn't noticed. What we saw…I will never forget that sight."

Superman put a hand on her shoulder.

"Diana, what did you find?"

"...The shredded remains of every Nazi guard and officer there. They had been torn to pieces, looks of horror and terror on their faces…the ones that we could see clearly. Bullets were embedded everywhere in the building they had all been in. Blood was everywhere, heads and limbs torn off…As we walked outside, we heard it."

Batman stood up.

"Diana, we need every detail."

"That howl, it seemed so far away yet it was as if the beast had been right next to us. It was haunting…I had only known before that we had to be careful to free the prisoners as a full moon sat in the sky that night and could possibly reveal us as we tried to sneak those poor people out…that howl called out as if it was signing their gruesome work later joined by the howls of the dogs in a haunting choir."

Batman rubbed his chin.

"How many guards were there and what kind of weapons did they have?"

"The survivors had informed us that there were several dozen at first, more were said to be coming. They had rifles and machine guns. There were the standard weapons for soldiers. It didn't matter, the only blood that was present was that of the Nazis. Dr. Fate later informed me of the identity of the killer…when I asked him to speak more on it, we had already been assigned a task soon after…we didn't speak of it again. I think some of the others were traumatized by the sight."

Superman shook his head.

"I'm sorry you saw that. That must've been horrible…and I have to ask, how did Dr. Fate not sense Drew's lycanthropy?"

"I have spoken with him about that recently. The magic was always there and he sensed something, it was just the cruelty that infected him with the serum that cursed him was the more powerful energy that Nabu felt. He had also hadn't spent much time around him and thus hadn't focused his meditations and spells on him. When I had tried to speak with him more he said he was going to meditate on it, feeling the lingering essence of the beast was familiar."

Batman sat back in the chair, typing.

"This doesn't change anything. I am working on plans to subdue them and free them of their curse…I am working on plans to create containment cells if we are only able to do the former without having a cure. We will still need to send them to asylums for their actions."

Superman slowly nodded.

"Once the curse is lifted and they are free of their bloodlust, we shouldn't necessarily throw them away without compassion. The curse is what makes them kill."

"That doesn't take away from the lives they've taken. And given their understanding of what they've done, they know what they're doing to an extent. They can't go free."

Wonder Woman sighed.

"If we're doing this, we have to be prepared. We just can't take away our focus from the threat of Apokolips."

"I don't disagree, Diana. You just know that a threat that may seem smaller than another still can cause harm. I've been looking for any signs of them. I found classified reports from Mexico of mercenaries that were killed by various sorts of wounds, some that are the very same as being attacked by a wolf. And Poison Ivy had been there to defend endangered plant species. Though she had disappeared with the plants and the bodies of those that had been murdered had vanished as well once a cleanup crew arrived. The cleanup crew met the mercenaries that had simply been knocked out and they filled in their superiors about what they had seen."

Wonder Woman shook her head.

"Now he's working with Poison Ivy?"

Superman rubbed his chin.

"Kara and I could fly around, speaking to certain governments about this."

Wonder Woman shook her head.

"This will cause panic and could lead to innocent humans being killed by paranoid people. Another Witch hunt isn't what this world needs."

"What do you suggest?"

"Bait."

The Dark Knight turned to his colleagues.

"To catch an animal you need to set the right trap."

"And you plan to set traps for all of them?"

"No, just Drew. While his mind might be resistant to telepathy at the moment, but enough time to break down his defenses under interrogation by myself, Dr. Fate, and perhaps M'gann and J'onn could render results."

"I thought you didn't accept M'gann's techniques?"

"Drew is more resilient than a Krolotean. And we can't afford to be soft. Once his mind can be read, we can learn the location of the First Pack and any allies they have."

Wonder Woman raised an eyebrow at this

"What do you have in mind?"

"The details are being worked out. And once the plan's ready, I'll have him running into the trap."

To be continued…
