Arthur stood outside her doors for a long time before reaching for the handle. She turned to look at him as he entered and a confused frown crossed her face. He could feel how his heart started to beat so loudly that he would be surprised if it didn't show through his shirt.

''Arthur? What are you doing here?'' she asked and looked at the man in front of her.

''I... I wanted to talk to you. Are you alone?'' he managed to say just as he realized how bad this idea was. He should have listened to Merlin.

''Okay. No, Anette went to fetch me some herbs from Gaius... has something happened?'' she said and started to look concerned.

''No, no, not at all. I just wanted to... how are you feeling?'' Arthur said, still trying to protract.

''Gaius says the wound from the dagger is infected,'' she said, still confused over what he was doing there. He just nodded to her reply even though she didn't really answer his question.

''Was that all?'' she said and he could tell that she didn't want him there.

''Yes. Hope to see you well soon,'' he said, regretting that he bothered her in the first place. She gave away a nod to show gratitude and he was about to walk out when he spotted the dandelions on her dining table.

''I hope you liked them,'' he said and she looked over at the table. She already knew what he was referring to.

''It was very thoughtful. Thank you,'' she said with a soft voice. He looked at her once more and with a nod, he continued to walk out.

''What is it that you want from me, Arthur? Why did you come here?'' she asked and he stopped walking. He turned towards her and they just looked at each other for a while. There was no point in playing dumb, he thought. She felt the tension just as much as him.

''I wanted to talk to you about the feast,'' he confessed.

''What about it?'' she asked, still holding eye-contact with him.

''Well... did you have fun?'' he asked, trying to procrastinate once again.

''I did. I wanted to congratulate you on the victory, but you seemed... busy,'' she said and Arthur felt how his face turned red by embarrassment.

''Yes, I wanted to apologize for that,'' he let out in an exhale.

''I want to assure you that what you saw that night, is not who I am, I-'' he continued but she interrupted him.

''Arthur, you have no obligation to explain anything to me,'' she said as she started to feel uncomfortable.

''But I want to. I feel-'' he tried again.

''Arthur, if you value your life, you should turn around and go,'' she said and he felt a hopelessness washed over him. He observed her for a while before realizing that she was worried that he would say something stupid that would put them both in a difficult position. And she was right.

''I seem to have developed feelings for you,'' he said as the air in the room disappeared. She widened her eyes, not knowing where to go or how to get out of this.

''Arthur... it can never be,'' she managed to respond after a while.

''I know... I-'' he tried but she beat him to it again.

''I swore a vow,'' she said.

''And so did you,'' she added and he just looked at her.

''I know, you are right,'' he said and started to shake his head. It was as she had poked a hole in his bubble.

''Forget that I ever said anything. I'm so sorry I've bothered you, forgive me,'' he said stressed. She observed him and gave him a compassionated gaze.

''If-,'' she began to say but was interrupted by Anette entering the room.

''Elena,'' Anette said as she walked in and both Elena and Arthur turned towards her. Arthur was about to explode by the bad timing and the interruption of the queen.

''What are you doing in here, Arthur? Is there a problem?'' she said and raised her brows, looking at the two of them - but especially Arthur.

''No, not at all! We... I... did not have the chance to congratulate Arthur for his victory in the tournament, and he happened to walk past the room just now so I... congratulated him,'' she said nervously and started to mumble towards the end. Arthur noticed that she was scared and stressed.

''Yes, thank you again. I better get going, I was heeding for practice. Hope you get better soon, my lady,'' Arthur quickly confirmed her words and made sure not to look at her. Anette looked at Elena, and then at Arthur, taking a long time before she replied.

''I see. Was there anything else?'' she asked now only looking at Arthur, narrowing her eyes on him.

''Not at all, your highness, if you'll excuse me,'' he said and bowed in front of Anette before walking out. He made sure not to look at Elena in any way on his way our, ashamed that he put them both in such a position. She would most likely keep away from him after this.

But all he could think about was, 'if-what'?.
