I don't own Loonatics Unleashed
Enjoy!
Rev Runner was feeling energized every day. He had wanted to start working the moment he was released from the hospital but his parents preferred that he stayed home for a couple of weeks before fully going back to work. He wondered if the Quick Wrap Sandwich Shack was still operating after the meteor or if the cook had decided to take his business elsewhere. Whatever the case was, Rev was glad that he was out of the hospital and finally home. During that time, he had spent as much time as he could with his little brother but today, he was spending some time by himself. He was outside, walking through the city of Acmetropolis and seeing how much it had changed but what amazed him was the amount of love that the citizens showed to their city as they helped one another to try and build back the city to the way it once was.
He had passed by a local shelter that was giving food to a long line of people. Another place was a clothing drive where many people handed the clothes they didn't use anymore for other people. It was nice to see the city coming together like that. He looked ahead of him when he noticed a group of people gathered at a park, busy at work. Curious to see what was going on, Rev walked over and noticed that those people were planting trees that had been destroyed by the shockwave of the meteor.
"Want to plant a tree?" one of the women by the stands asked him. "The more trees, the healthier our city."
How could he say 'no' to that? After the devastation that had happened, this was the least that he could do give back to a city that allowed him to reside in with his family. "Sure," Rev perked up with a smile as he took the sapling from the woman and went over to find an empty spot on the ground. There was a perfect spot right by the lake. He wasn't too experienced with plants, but this was a good opportunity for him to try at least.
With a shovel in his grip, he started to dig a hole at a speed which took him off guard. He knew that he was quick, but he wasn't the quick! That took him like five seconds to get it to the right depth and diameter where it would take people minutes to get to it. He dropped the shovel and went ahead to place the sapling into the chasm. Now filling it back up was going to be a challenge, but he was determined to do it. Picking up the shovel, he began to put the dirt back in the chasm at lightning speed.
A gasp escaped his beak and he dropped the shovel. "I-did-it-again!"
"Rev,-is-that-you?"
He quickly turned around and saw Michelle standing there. He hadn't spoken to her ever since their fight and she hadn't called. "Michelle,-you're-okay!" he exclaimed as he stepped closer to her and took her arms in his hands. "Why-didn't-you-call?"
Michelle was taken aback by his reaction but it was like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. "I—did-call-but-your-mom-told-me-you-were-in-the-hospital.-I-wanted-to-visit-but-I-didn't-know-if-you-wanted-me-to-come-after-our-fight."
She could be so silly sometimes that Rev wanted to give her a shake for it. "No-no-no," he rapidly shook his head at her. "Forget-about-that!-Were-you-okay-after-the-meteor?"
"Yeah," Michelle answered him, "I-was-at-home-and-hid-up-in-the-attic.-My-apartment-had-broken-windows-and-glass-everywhere.-Took-sometime-to-clean-it-up-but-it's-all-good."
That was another worry off his list. Just like his family, his ex-coworkers was doing fine. He looked over at her when she began to speak.
"Listen," Michelle began, "I-am-sorry-for-skipping-out-on-the-coffee-date.-I-shouldn't-have-been-judgmental-of-your-friend-and-his-friend." If there was something that this meteor impact had taught her, it was to make the most out of everything, especially meeting new people…even if they were coyotes or wolves.
Rev held a blissful smile upon his beak. "Ah-it's-not-a-problem," Rev said to her. "They-wanted-to-meet-you-actually-maybe-next-time."
Michelle was glad that Rev mentioned a future meeting. She wanted to make up for the last one and she hoped that neither Tech nor his friend held her against that. "Thanks-Rev," she said to him a gentle smile. "Do-you-wanna-spend-the-rest-of-the-afternoon-with-me?-I'm-just-over-there-planting-some-flowers-across-the-lake."
"Meet-you-there!" Rev perked up. "I-just-need-to-bring-these-tools-back-to-the-booth." He took a hold of the tools and zipped away from Michelle.
Michelle blinked when she noticed how quickly Rev left and came back to her. The look on his face showed that he hadn't expected such speed either. "That-was-quick," Michelle commented, "I-don't-think-I've-seen-you-that-fast-before."
"Me-neither," Rev answered her. "I-don't-know-what's-going-on!-Even-when-I-planted-that-tree,-it-was-faster-than-I-thought-it-was-going-to-be."
"Maybe-you've-been-at-rest-for-a-while-and-gained-some-speed," Michelle thought.
If that was true, Rev didn't think that lying down would be the cause for such quick speed. "You-know-what-else-is-weird?" he asked, "as-I-was-running-I-could-see-the-directions-I-was-going-to-in-my-head!"
Michelle raised an eyebrow at that. "What-do-you-mean?"
"You-know-how-we-use-a-GPS-System-to-get-to-places.-Well,-that's-what-I-saw-as-I-was-running.-It's-like-my-head-was-telling-me-which-directions-to-take."
Michelle looked at him as if he was insane, and that's how he began to feel. Maybe he was losing his mind. After that impact, he would be surprised if he wasn't. "What-is-going-on-Rev?" Michelle asked him a concerned tone of voice.
"I…I-wish-I-knew," he said as he looked up at her. "I'm-very-worried-what-if-something-happens-to-me?-I-can't-think-about-it-weighing-down-on-my-parents-or-my-brother.-Can-you-promise-me-something?" he asked as he grabbed gentle hold of her hands and looked at her pleadingly in the eyes.
He was talking very fast that Michelle, surprisingly, couldn't keep up with his rhythm.
"If-something-happens-to-me-please-take-care-of-my-parents-and-my-brother," he told her.
Michelle shut her eyes and shook her head. "Rev-you're-not-making-any-sense-nothing-is-going-to-happen-to-you!" She took her hands away had the urge to slap him for saying something like that. How dare he say something so dismal. "You'll-be-fine-now-quit-talking-like-that!"
Rev hadn't expected such a reaction. Maybe she was right! He was probably overreacting and having that negative thought in his mind was not like him. "Sorry," he said to her, "but-I-just-can't-shake-off-the-feeling."
"You-were-in-the-hospital-for-weeks-and-now-that-the-doctors-let-you-out-I'm-sure-you-are-fine," she reminded him. "Now-enough-of-this-and-enjoy-what-you-have-been-given.-It's-a-gift-that-all-roadrunners-would-want."
It may have looked like a gift in the eyes of others, but Rev was just frightened on what was to come.
