I don't own Loonatics Unleashed

Enjoy!

Ace felt that he and the rest of the team had jinxed the events of today. After planning out a training session for all of them, Zadavia's hologram had appeared within the middle of the round table and alerted them that the city was in dire need for them. At first, the whole team had been excited that they were finally going to put their gifted powers into use. However, this was something that he and rest of the team did not expect. The ticks that Lexi had been talking about were on the loose around the city. The team hovered around the city with the help of their jetpacks, many thanks to Tech E. Coyote's quick thinking, and Ace wondered how they were going to gather a cluster of medium sized ticks.

Lexi cringed when she noticed them climbing up the wall of a building. "There's so many of them!" she exclaimed as she looked at the team.

Rev couldn't believe his eyes. At first, he believed Lexi to be exaggerating about those ticks but he was just as disgusted as Lexi was.

"We gotta do something before they eat the whole place," Ace said to the team.

"Actually," Tech spoke up, "ticks are parasites that can bind on hosts and feed from their blood. What's strange is that I've never seen a tick that size before."

"Do you think it could've been from the meteor?" Ace presumed. It could make sense if the shockwave from the meteor caused these ticks to mutate and grow in a…slightly larger scale. At this point, anything was possible from the meteor. "Gah!" he yelled when he noticed a tick flying in his direction and he quickly dodged it with the jetpack. "And they can fly too? Come on Loonatics, let's get 'em!" It didn't take much for Ace's command to get the team going. All five of the superheroes disperse into different sections of the city as they chased after those ticks.

Ace Bunny tried to fly as quickly as he could, flying in a circle with his jetpack to trap the ticks in a cluster. He focused his eyes on the cluster and felt that burning sensation. The lasers escaped from his eyes and towards the ticks and he tried to be cautious as he continued to circle around. One laser ricocheted from the pavement, towards a window, and straight at Ace as if hit him on the stomach. Ace felt that injury dispersing throughout his body. Shaking his head, he looked up and saw how quickly the cluster was skittering towards him.

Come on, focus Ace thought to himself and felt his eyes burning once more. This time, the lasers came out very strong and hit the ticks. He got to his feet and walked closely to the cluster that seemed to be stuck in position. Just then, the lasers stopped and next thing he knew, he saw a pile of dust that was left.

Lexi Bunny couldn't believe that she wasn't able to bring back the brain blast. She had kept her attention towards the ticks, but she couldn't muster the strength for it. How did she do it last time? From what she remembered that tick was coming towards her and the light had just appeared. She had done something prior for that to happen!

She dodged just in time when one of the ticks was about to latch itself onto her. "You gotta do better than that!" Lexi yelled at the tick and then quickly dodged away from another one. She couldn't just keep dodging from them. She planed her feet to the ground, a good distance from the cluster of ticks, and looked as they skittered towards her direction.

Okay, focus Lexi said to herself. Keep your eyes on the prize. The longer she stared at them, the closer they seemed to come towards her and she still didn't present that superpower. She felt tension in her forehead and kept her mind concentrated at the cluster.

Come on, come on…you can do it! Lexi scrunched her eyes and felt the great tension in her forehead. Just then, she felt her body thrown back as that pink light spring from the middle of her ears and towards the cluster. She lifted herself from the ground and looked at the cluster that was reduced by a quarter. A slight grin came upon her lips as she focused on the cluster and the second time around, the superpower easily came back.

The number of ticks that Slam Tasmania had gathered was astounding. Unlike his teammates, he possessed the power of creating mini tornadoes and he was able to sweep up those ticks like a vacuum. He didn't want those ticks crawling all over him when he gathered them so he had picked up a large garbage can and trapped the ticks inside. That was one quick way at keeping the city clean. The disposal for those ticks, though, he was going to leave it to the professionals.

"Help!" a voice made its way to his ears. He ran towards the source of the voice and noticed a woman that was trapped from all directions by the ticks. They were quickly making its way towards her and she tried to fall back as much as she could against the wall.

Grabbing another garbage can, Slam twisted his body and the mini tornado cleaned up the ticks and all were trapped inside the garbage can.

The woman couldn't believe it. She stared at her savior in admiration as she clasped her hands in front of her and smiled brightly at Slam. Who was this superhero who put himself in harm's way to save her. She ran towards Slam and grabbed him by the arm. "You're my hero, thank you!"

Well…those words were enough to make the Tasmanian devil blush.

Tech and Rev had run into each other as they were gathering their own cluster of ticks. With Rev's speed and ingrained global positioning system, the two were able to locate as many ticks as possible. Tech tried to find what he could to trap the ticks.

"Tech-any-day-now!" Rev called over to the coyote. He tried to hold off as many of the ticks as he could with the trail of fire that he spread back and forth.

There was nothing that Tech could use against them that was on land. He mentally prepared from future weapons in his mind before shifting his focus towards the ticks once again. He watched Rev running back and forth, creating as much fire as he could to keep those ticks back. Did that roadrunner ever get tired? Whatever the case was, he was going to tire out eventually and Tech needed to act quick. Lampposts were not going to work against those. Then his eyes caught onto the electric letters on a billboard sign.

"There we go," Tech said as he raised his hands and a green light shot out of them. The letters from the billboard dislodged and Tech swiftly moved his hands towards the ground, crushing as many of the ticks as those letters could.

Rev was glad that he had moved out of the way. He felt the ground quake underneath his feet once the letter fell on the ground. "I-think-we-got-them-all," Rev said.

Tech's eyes went from the roadrunner and then towards the ground. A tick was that slightly larger than the other made its way towards the two Loonatics. Grabbing a discarded box from the ground, Tech held it towards the tick and trapped it in there. "Gotcha!" he exclaimed and quickly placed the lid on the box.

Rev watched Tech as he held tightly onto the box as the tick angrily tried to escape from it. "What-are-you-doing-Tech?" he asked him.

"Remember how Ace said these ticks could have grown due to the meteor?" Tech reminded him as the roadrunner nodded his head. "If that's the case, the shockwave from the meteor manipulated their genes to cause them to grow and fly. Who knows what else that meteor might have caused."

"So-what-are-you-going-to-do-with-it?" Rev asked.

"I know just the person who to give this to," Tech said. "Come on."

Over by the university's laboratory, Quinn was surprised to see a coyote and a roadrunner dressed in those strange looking suits. "Tech?" she asked and squinted at the now-familiar looking coyote who held a box in his hands. She looked over at Rev and back at Tech. "Why are you guys dressed like this?"

"It's-a-bit-of-a-long-story-but-I'll-give-you-the-five-second-details.-We-were-given-the-superpowers-by-the-shockwave-from-the-meteor-and-we-were-called-upon-to-be-the-new-superheroes-of-Acmetropolis.-But-now-this-being-our-first-mission-we-are-trying-to-stop-these-ticks-from-infesting-all-of-Acmetropolis.-Tech-thinks-that-the-ticks-were-affected-by-the-shockwave-from-the-meteor-and-was-able-to-trap-one-in-this-box-and-mind-you…" he stopped for a dramatic effect, "it's-very-angry."

"And from the very long monologue," Tech spoke up, "we were wondering if you could help us. I don't know if you caught what Rev said but we think the increase of their size is due to the meteor."

"Ever since that meteor hit, us scientists are competing with others on our breakthrough. I wouldn't be surprised if the meteor caused this mutation in them." She reached out and took the box from Tech, gently brushing her hands over his when she took it. "Hmm," she hummed out as she slightly lifted the box, "it is a bit heavy."

"So can you help us?" Tech asked her, "maybe it will also give us a clue on how to get rid of them."

"Other than the famous pesticides and bug sprays used on these guys," Quinn said, "anything is possible. Also, you don't need to ask, I'll do anything for you guys."

Rev peeked over at Tech and felt a smile coming on his beak. He waited to see the coyote's reaction on what he was going to say to her and he wasn't shocked when Tech only answered with a 'thanks.' The two superheroes bid their goodbyes to the she-wolf. "Did-you-hear-that?-She'll-do-anything-for-you!" he teased.

"Oh hush," Tech said to Rev. "Let's go and find Ace and the others. See if they need any help with the bug problem."

Inside the laboratory, Quinn stared at the box that was on the bench. She flinched when the box vigorously shook and landed back on the table. "Let's see what's in there," Quinn said as she took the lid off. The moment she looked at the tick, she froze at how big the size of it was. The arachnid remained frozen in the box, almost as if it was dead. Quinn gave it a slight poke and it didn't react at all.

Maybe it's too stunned Quinn thought. Placing on her laboratory gloves, she reached inside the box and picked up the tick. It had quite the large abdomen and she assumed that it probably had a meal before getting caught. "You're a huge one. Kind of like how ants have a queen ant. Don't know if that's the case for ticks," she said as she placed the tick on the scale and took down the weight of it. "I don't know how I'm gonna do this but, it's for the good in science." She turned around to grab a tool to extract what she could from the tick. The moment that she turned around, the tick jumped from the bench and grabbed her face with its legs.

Quinn stumbled back and tried to pry the arachnid off her face but the tick quickly traveled behind her and stuck on the back of her head. The tick cut the surface of her head and embedded itself inside her head. The wolf stumbled forward and placed a hand on her forehead. Taking a deep breath, she slowly removed her hand from her forehead and looked at the items that surrounded her.

It was the work from the wolf, not the tick. With all the strength that she could muster, she flung her arms towards stacks of papers, laboratory equipment, laboratory animals, anything that she was able to get a hold of. Now that the tick had been able to find a host, it would be a bit easy to get through those Loonatics and raise an army of arachnids to take over this rundown city.

But the tick was planning on doing that much later. Perhaps after a nice helping of blood and nourishment.
