I don't own Loonatics Unleashed

Enjoy!

Sleep had not been the proper remedy to get rid of these strange side effects that Miranda was having. Every morning she woke up and did her usual routine, which consisted of going out for an early morning job, she was able to get into the minds of the people she passed by. She couldn't believe what they were thinking about. Most of them still thought about the meteor that had struck, how late for work they were, or secrets that others thought behind another person's back. It was like these voices were following her no matter where she was and it was getting to be exhaustive. She stopped by one of the lampposts and took a deep breath after jogging for a couple of miles. She looked up when she noticed the building that stood in front of her. It was the dance studio and parts of the building had turned into ash. A sigh escaped her break when she looked at it.

Everything for a reason…right? she thought. It wasn't as if she was having much success in that studio anyway, but she had been dancing in there for a long time and she felt as if a part of her was gone. Her eyes focused on the sign that hung from the building and when she did so, the sign hovered in the air. Oh God she thought as she tore her eyes away from the object and sent it flying into another building. At least no people were harmed when she did that. She quickly reached in her purse and placed on a pair of sunglasses, hoping that would stop this strange telekinesis from happening. She stared back at the sign and when nothing happened, she let out a sigh of relief. At least that was one way of controlling it, but she couldn't be wearing sunglasses all the time.

Maybe this will be a good idea to head back home Miranda thought to herself as she turned around and bumped into a clocked figure. "Oof," she grunted and staggered backwards. She supported her balance by holding onto the lamppost but when she looked up, that clocked figure headed into an ally and disappeared.

Well, that was not mysterious at all. Ever since she had gotten out of that hospital, Miranda felt she had entered a post-apocalyptic world. First the meteor, then ferocious ticks! What was next? Dinosaurs coming back to life? She cringed at that thought and before longing more on the idea of having prehistoric creatures coming back to life, she decided to head back home.

Over at HQ, it had been a restful couple of days for the Loonatics. Ever since their first mission, Ace thought that it was necessary for them to have this dedicated not just to training but also to relax. Rev was busy playing a round of air hockey with himself as Slam cheered him on, Tech had found his peace by mediating, Duck was keeping himself busy by reading a magazine, whilst Ace and Lexi sat together by the kitchen table.

Lexi had a mug cupped around her hands as she looked thoughtfully into it.

"Something on your mind?" Ace asked her.

Lexi shook her head, "nothing big. It's just weird how it's been too quiet lately. It's almost like the calm before the storm." She couldn't believe that she had said it and likely jinxed the next couple of days with that comment.

Even if she had jinxed it, Ace held the same sentiments. The last couple of weeks had been a turmoil for Acmetropolis and now that things were calm suddenly was very strange. He took a deep breath and perked up towards Lexi. "Awh, cheer up Lex," he said to her, "I say that we enjoy these peaceful moments."

Maybe she was overthinking things. Taking a last sip of her drink, Lexi looked around the room and saw how occupied the rest of the boys were. "Wanna head out for some fresh air?" she asked Ace.

Ace was slightly surprised by her offer but it was one that he couldn't refuse. "I thought you'd never ask," he said as he stood up on his feet and escorted Lexi to the door. "Hey guys," he called to the others, "we're headin' out for a little bit. Tech!" he called to the coyote who was still meditating, "you're in charge."

"What?!" came Duck's enraged voice from the room once Ace and Lexi headed out. "Why is he in charge?"

Both rabbits exchanged a chuckle between one another. This was something that they were going to get used to with their newly formed partnership. When the two of them stepped outside and into the city, they couldn't believe how much it had changed from the city that they were used to.

"Man," Lexi was the first one to speak up, "I forgot how Acmetropolis used to look like."

Ace agreed. It wasn't as if it was any different before but this time, it looked very gloomy. Whether it be the weather or the aftereffects of the meteor, it was without a doubt that the city had changed. "I guess that's why we were chosen for a reason," Ace said to Lexi, "to bring Acmetropolis back to the way it was."

"It's going to take a long time to do that," Lexi said to him, "I mean, would we still be alive by then?" she asked him.

He didn't know if these powers extended their life expectancy or, if he was being a bit too ambitious about it, make them immortal. "The only thing I can say about that," Ace said, "hopefully. It seems like Acmetropolis needed a couple of chosen ones to get it back to the way it was."

Lexi's ears suddenly perked up when she heard something in the distance. Turning her head around, she noticed a couple of feet running in their direction. "Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God!" a group of people yelled as they waved pieces of paper in front of their faces. "It's Ace Bunny! It's Lexi Bunny!"

A grin came upon Lexi's lips as she looked over at Ace. "Would you look at that," she said, "we've got our own little fan club. Did you expect this as a stuntman?" She took a pen from a fan and wrote her name on piece of paper before signing for another fan.

"Nah, this is even better," Ace said and tried to keep up with the number of fans and autographs. "Okay, okay, whoa! Everyone get in a line. There's only one of me and a hundred of youse!"

"Now this is where we both wish we had Rev's speed to keep up," Lexi commented, suddenly feeling her wrist beginning to hurt from writing her name numerous times.

After a long while of giving their autographs and talking with their fans, Lexi and Ace were glad that was finally over. Now it seemed that missions were a lot easier than giving out autographs. "Guess we wasted a couple of hours just by doin' that," Ace said. "I was hoping we could have gone somewhere like the movies or the park."

"Where we'd be bombarded by another group of fans," Lexi chuckled, "maybe some other time. Where the rest of Acmetropolis has gotten used to the idea that there are superheroes. I guess we should start heading back to HQ before the rest of the team looks for us."

"And before Duck declares himself in charge," Ace said. It was rather amusing to the rabbit how much confident Duck was into thinking that he was suddenly the leader of the team. Zadavia hadn't even announced it yet. He couldn't wait and see whom Zadavia was going to pick and mostly get a kick out of Duck's reaction.

As both rabbits proceeded on going back to HQ, they spotted someone looked up at the tower. The closer Ace got, the more he noticed her features that she wasn't human but a duck. "What's up, doc?" Ace said to her, "you lost or somethin'?"

The female duck turned around, sporting a pair of sunglasses, which was odd to Ace considering how cloudy it was. She lowered her sunglasses as if to get a better look at them and Ace spotted how bloodshot her eyes were.

Jeesh! Ace thought at the sight of that.

"You're the superheroes of this complex right?" she asked.

"Yeah, who's asking?" Ace asked her.

"Oh," she shook her head and smiled, "I'm Miranda. I got this letter when I returned home this morning and it told me to come here."

Now that name sounded familiar. Ace reached over and took the letter as his eyes scanned through it. It was the same letter that he had received back at the hotel when he was discharged from the hospital and that was a day that he was never going to forget. "I'm Ace Bunny," he introduced himself to her. Surely, she probably knew him but it was better to make a good impression.

Lexi peeked over at the letter and a small smile came upon her lips. She had been at home curled up on the couch when she had received the letter and she glad that she had taken the opportunity. "Hi, I'm Lexi Bunny," she introduced herself as well.

"You did come to the right place," Ace spoke up to the female duck. "As for the reason…I would say Zadavia is expecting you shortly."

"Who's Zadavia?" Miranda asked as she looked up at him. For a rabbit, he was quite tall!

"She's our boss," Lexi spoke up, "come on. We'll take you there."

Rev felt his patience beginning to wear thin. He wished he hadn't picked up a box that was delivered to them so quickly. Ever since Ace and Lexi had left and declared Tech in charge, Duck had been complaining nonstop as to why it was unfair for Tech to be picked, why it should have been Duck, what has Tech done over the course of the past few days, and how much Duck had done for the team. He envied the coyote for having figured out how to block noise and just focus on the mind. Just like Rev, Slam was listening to Duck's complaints and only watched his behavior. He was used to noise, but it was getting to be too much for him as well.

"Hey guys!" came Ace's voice from the door as he walked inside with Lexi.

Tech opened one eye as he saw the two rabbits entered. "It's about time you guys got back. Duck wouldn't stop talking about you."

"Good things I hope," Ace joked.

Duck shut his beak and sent a glare at his teammates. "You're both despicable."

Miranda rose an eyebrow when she heard Duck's words. "Now is that a way to speak to your teammates, Duck?"

Duck's shoulders flinched when he heard the familiar voice. He whipped around and the moment he saw Miranda, he was taken aback when he noticed the sunglasses that she was wearing. "Miranda?" he asked her, "what are you doing here?"

"She got the same letter from Zadavia that we all got," Ace explained to Duck. It didn't take a genius to figure out what Zadavia had sent her that letter in the first place. From the bloodshot eyes that he saw, it was probably some effect that she had to deal with from the meteor.

At precisely, twelve in the afternoon, Zadavia's hologram appeared in the middle of the roundtable. Zadavia was always punctual with her schedules and she was glad to see that all the Loonatics were there…especially Duck who had been getting better with these meetings. "Good afternoon Loonatics," Zadavia greeted them. "I am glad that we are all gathered here today. I am sure you know why."

"You're going to pick the leader," Duck confidently spoke up, "is it me?"

"Perhaps I do need to clarify," Zadavia sighed, "I ran into Miranda, the citizen standing with you today, this morning and I noticed her newly formed powers."

Oh, Miranda blinked when Zadavia said that. So that was the cloaked figure I saw?

"With her powers, I believe she will be a helpful asset; therefore, I am initiating her to the team," Zadavia said.

Miranda shook her head to ensure that she wasn't daydreaming all of this. "Wait," she said as she held up her hands in the air, "you want me to join these superheroes?"

"Would you like to?" Zadavia asked her.

Miranda knew nothing about being a superhero. "But how will I help you out?" she asked as she looked from one team member to another.

That was a question that Zadavia knew she might ask. She had been looking into the Loonatics and the amount of time that they spent training with one another. Through all that time, the one Loonatic that stood out to her was Ace, but she still had some time to consider her decision. "Of course, you will go through some intensive training. I shall assign Ace and Lexi Bunny to train you. Welcome to the team."

"Wait, wait, wait!" Duck suddenly spoke up as he sent a glare at the two rabbits and then looked over at Zadavia. "Can't I train her?" he asked, "I know her a lot better than those two."

Lexi sent a glare towards Duck, thinking twice before brain blasting his tail feathers, whilst Ace remained calm and collected. Miranda, knowing Duck's ego, shook her head at his interruption.

"You can," Zadavia answered Duck, "after she has finished her training with Ace and Lexi. Zadavia out."

She didn't even give him a chance to respond to that. His shoulders slumped and bowed his head at the table. He looked defeated after trying to convince Zadavia to let him train Miranda. What was the reason as to why she wouldn't let him? It wasn't as if he was going to be distracted by having her around!

"Cheer up Duck," Ace suddenly said to him, "it's not like we're going to train with her now. But when we do, we'll give her back once we're done."

"That's not what I'm worried about," Duck answered Ace. After the loss that Tech faced, Duck had been extremely worried about Miranda. Even though the ticks never made it in the hospital, it wasn't a guarantee that she was going to be safe from the things in this town. I just don't want her to get hurt he thought.

Miranda made no comment to Duck's thoughts. It was sweet that he was looking out for her, but it wasn't as if she wasn't able to take care of herself. Taking a deep breath, she looked over at the two rabbits. "Just let me know when you're ready to train me."

"Will do," Lexi said to her.

"Where will I be staying?" Miranda asked them.

Tech walked over to the group. "There's an empty room next to Duck's," he said. When he noticed the look of surprise on her face, Tech resisted the urge to roll his eyes. "I'm Tech, nice to meet you," he kindly introduced himself.

She slowly relaxed when Tech introduced himself. Coyotes and ducks didn't make a good combination but upon that introduction, he didn't seem too bad. Before she could answer, there was a quick motion that flew directly in her eyes as she felt her hand being grabbed and shaken at a fast speed.

"Hi-I'm-Rev-nice-to-meet-you-it's-great-to-have-another-bird-on-the-team-though-you're-more-acquatic-and-I'm-terrestrial-but-we're-both-from-the-same-class!" Rev spoke so fast that Miranda had a hard time keeping up with him, but he was quite the pleasant bird on the team.

Duck walked over to the Rev. "Okay, okay," he said, "no need to tire her out with your constant chirping."

Rev gave the duck a slight glare. "Constant-chirping?-We-had-to-listen-to-you-complain-for-hours-nonstop-about-why-you-weren't-in-charge."

"It's not like I need to prove to the Boss Lady that I can be the leader. I am the leader," Duck said.

"Anyway," Ace jumped in before Rev and Duck bickered, "finally, this is Slam. He's the muscle of the team."

Slam had been quiet throughout the whole introduction and was glad that he wasn't forgotten. He gave Miranda a nod of his head, followed by a grunt as she gave the Tasmanian devil a smile.

"Nice to meet you all," Miranda said, "but if it's okay, I'd like to see my room."

"Oh-before-you-leave," Rev said as he zipped over to the table and came back with a box, "this-is-for-you."

Miranda took the box in her arms and shook it next to her ear. It didn't sound like anything big in there, but she was curious to know what was inside. She walked over to the empty room next to Duck's and laid the box on the bed. She undid the wrapping and was surprised to see a black suit with a turquoise triangle etched in the front. Without any hesitation, she tried on the suit and looked at herself in the mirror. The color, the texture, the way it hugged her body. It was definitely something that she knew was going to change her life.
