I don't own Loonatics Unleashed

Enjoy!

Then you'd better hurry before she destroys everything.

That sentence haunted Lexi and Rev as they made their way back to HQ. Lexi couldn't believe how naïve they had been to trust a stranger's word. Lexi had been raised to never judge a book by its cover, but sometimes it was necessary to listen to that intuition.

Rev was overthinking the whole scenario. What had he done? He had potentially destroyed something that mattered to him and everyone in Acmetropolis! What was he going to tell the team? He dreaded the idea of walking into the lounge, with the rest of his teammates waiting there for him to drop the bombshell news that he had partaken in. The moment that the elevator indicated that they had reached their floor, the doors opened and revealed the lounge room.

Upon having heard the elevator, Ace looked over from the couch and welcomed Lexi and Rev. "'Bout time ya guys got back," he said as he walked over to them, "how did it go?"

"Ace!" Rev yelled as he ran over to the rabbit, "please-please-please-please-please-don't-be-made-at-us! -we-I-mean-I-used-it-on-the-trees-and-on-some-rosebushes-and-they-died!-We-talked-to-the—"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Ace held up his hands towards Rev, knowing that the roadrunner was in distress and the fact that he couldn't keep up with everything he said. "Slow it down there, now to the beginning what happened?"

"I think it's better if I take this," Lexi said as she walked towards them. "I was helping Rev plant some trees and this woman came up to us with a bottle that she had prepared, saying that it would help grow the trees faster. We used it on the trees that we planted and on some rosebushes. When we did, those rosebushes died. We talked to the coordinator of this committee and she told us that this woman has been going to the volunteers, trying to sell this bottle to them which would destroy all of Acmetropolis's agriculture."

Well, that didn't sound good at all. Without agriculture, how were the people going to survive? Whomever this woman was clearly was up to no good. "Did she say her name or anything?" Ace asked them.

Rev shook his head. "No-but-when-she-left-I-saw-some-brsitles-were-left-on-the-ground-kind-of-like-the-ones-you-find-on-a-broom."

Miranda, who had been listening attentively to the conversation, rose an eyebrow at those words. A woman and a broom. That was a very interesting combination of words. "She sounds like a witch," she spoke up.

That word stood out to Lexi. Even though it was nowhere close to Halloween, the black dress that this woman had and the old woman voice that she possessed was evident enough to make her seem like she was a witch. The only thing that was odd was that she looked young and those features did not match her voice. What could she want with those trees in the first place? She had said to her and Rev that in 'a matter of weeks' the trees would be in full bloom. How much was a matter of weeks? "Do you think we should wait and see what happens?" Lexi asked her team. "We can't prove that what she gave us was terrible."

"But," Rev suddenly spoke up, "the-coordinator-said-that-it-would-destroy-the-soil."

"I'm afraid that Lexi is right," Tech suddenly spoke up. "Without evidence it would be her words against ours. I think it's better if we monitored the plants and see how they act through the next couple of days. Did you guys bring the bottle with you? Maybe I can bring it over to—" he suddenly caught himself before continuing that sentence. Taking another deep breath, he shook his head. "Never mind."

Lexi looked at Tech with sympathy and Ace gave him a nod of his head in acknowledgement. "I agree," he said to him, "you two," he said as he pointed to Lexi and Rev, "keep an eye out on your plants and let us know the moment you see something different. And guys, don't take candy from strangers alright?"

Both Lexi and Rev were ready to face whatever the consequences were. It was a very naïve action that they took, but they were willing to make it right.

"Tech," Ace turned to the coyote, "think you can hack through the security cameras in the park?"

"Child's play," Tech answered him, "I'm on it."

"Good," Ace said, "see if you can pick up on this gal when she met up with Lexi and Rev."

Tech didn't waste a second and hurried over to his lab. He headed towards his computer and his fingers rapidly fired on the keyboard bringing up the security cameras that were all over the park. He went to the camera that was located on the west side of the park where he caught sight of Rev and Lexi proceeding to plant the saplings. At that moment, Tech caught sight of a slim figure that was dressed in a black dress and she had red curls that hung over her shoulders.

"That's-the-one!"

Rev's voice had come out of nowhere, sending Tech flying into the air. "Would you stop sneaking up like that?" Tech said to the roadrunner. He was glad that he wasn't working on building a machine, otherwise he would've blown it up.

"Sorry," Rev apologized, "I-just-feel-like-I-messed-up-and-I-want-to-help-out-as-much-as-I-could."

Tech let out a sigh. "We're only…" Human wouldn't be the right term to use into this sentence. "Live beings. We're bound to make mistakes now and then." He squinted into the camera and when he saw that Rev and Lexi were busy speaking with one another, a broom appeared next to the woman as she hopped on it and flew away. "Miranda was right, she is a witch!"

He rewound the tape and paused it, hoping that he could get some facial recognition from the program. He caught a glimpse of her profile and ran the program, hoping that they were going to get an identification of this woman.

Facial mismatch. Please try again. Those red words blinked on the computer screen and Tech let out a sigh. "Ugh," he said, "this is going to take a while."

"Anything-I-can-do-to-help?" Rev asked him.

If Rev was able to create a whole new program, then that would wonderful but seeing that the roadrunner didn't possess that skill, the only thing that Rev could do was run the camera frame by frame and try to get a facial recognition from each.

We'd be able to find her before the trees bloom, right? Lexi thought to herself. She was trying to remain as positive as she could after her mistake but there was just so much negativity in her thoughts that she thought they wouldn't be able to do it in time.

Miranda, who was sitting across from Lexi, shook her head. "Whoa," she said as she then placed her hands on her head, "you're thinking too much over there, Lexi."

Lexi wasn't in the mood to argue with Miranda's invasion of private thoughts. In a way, it made her feel slightly better than someone knew how she felt without having her to express it in words. "Can't help it," Lexi said to her. "I should've known better, you know?"

"You got that right," Duck suddenly spoke up when Lexi said that. "Who takes things from strangers in the first place?"

"Uh, you do Duck," Miranda said. "Do you remember the time when you took a pool visitor's sunglasses and claimed them for yourself?"

"They were left unattended!" Duck said to her, "finders, keepers."

"Not when they were still at the pool," she said to him.

"Yeah well at least I'm not the one that will cause a devastation in Acmetropolis." With those words, he turned around to head out of the lounge but Lexi didn't let those words go unpunished. She brain blasted him right at the tail feathers, causing the duck to yelp.

Duck jumped in the air and sent Lexi a glare. "Watch it!"

A small giggle was exchanged between the two girls the moment Duck disappeared from their sight. Miranda felt guilty for laughing, but she couldn't say that he didn't deserve it. "Cheer up Lexi," Miranda then said to her, "I'm sure it won't be that bad. At this point, everyone is exaggerating things more than necessary."

"I don't know Miranda," Lexi said to her with a shake of her head, "the coordinator sounded serious about it. Even the way she spoke to Rev and me sounded like she didn't trust us as superheroes to make things right again."

That was an unfortunate thing to be a part of. You try to build as much trust between yourself and others and due to a little mistake, that trust comes tumbling down. "Unfortunately, you can't make everybody happy." It was a tough lesson to learn, but it was also reassuring.

Lexi knew a lot about that. No matter how much she had tried to make others happy first, she had forgotten about her own happiness. She wasn't going to live to others people's expectations but to her own. So what if this coordinator didn't trust her? There were plenty of other people who did! She thought back on that day when she and Ace were ambushed by a crowd of fans, yelling for their autographs and she had felt both happy and tired after all of that. Do it for yourself she implemented those words into her mind as she got up from her seat. "I'm gonna go and check the security cameras with Tech, see if I can help out. Come on."

Miranda got up from her seat and followed Lexi over to the laboratory where the rest of the Loonatics were gathered. Everyone was hovered around Tech, who tried to concentrate as much as he could on the screen.

"There you guys are," Ace said as he looked at Lexi and Miranda by the doorway, "seems like Tech is finally onto something."

"About time," Duck said with a glare upon his eyes as he continued to stare at the screen.

Come on Tech said to the screen I need just a little bit of those features. Once the woman's face turned a bit more, Tech stopped the video and ran the facial recognition. The files went through various inmates and citizens of Acmetropolis until a match was finally made. "We got a match," Tech said as he read the information off the computer, "her name is Myrtle Lezah and...whoa!" he blinked when he dug deeper into her profile and saw her family tree, "her family dates back to the early 1600s."

"From where exactly?" Ace asked Tech. He didn't think that the where her ancestors settled mattered, but he was curious to know.

"Salem," Tech answered. "Seems that the majority of her family was wiped out until we get to 1954 where one of her ancestors, Witch Hazel, was around and the branch extended from there. I think we all know what happened in Salem during those times."

Ace nodded his head. "Yeah, but what could this Myrtle gal have against Acmetropolis? Seems kind of random to attack a place that didn't have any relation with Salem."

Tech gave the rabbit a shrug of his shoulders. "What reason should there be?" he asked him, "maybe she wanted her family to be avenged."
