I don't own Loonatics Unleashed
Enjoy!
When Rev returned to HQ, his team members were all situated in the lounging area. Ace was meditating, Slam was having quite the big lunch for himself, Lexi and Miranda were deep in reading a fashion magazine after they had done some training, and Tech was reading one of the latest Acmetropolis Technologies Issue.
"Check. It. Out!" Duck's voice suddenly rang into the room as he walked into the lounge area with a box in his hands.
Aside from Ace and Slam, the rest of the team looked up when Duck made his presence known. He set the box on a table and ripped it open, revealing a blue cape as he wrapped it around his neck. He walked over to a mirror and looked at his reflection from front to back.
"What's the cape for?" Lexi asked.
"I've been wanting to change my superhero name. Have sent out a couple of memos to the Boss Lady but she hasn't gotten back to me yet," Duck answered her.
"Why do you want to change your name?" Lexi asked him.
Duck remained silent, thinking up of a good reason as to why he had decided to do it.
"Midlife crisis," Miranda loudly whispered to Lexi.
"Hey!" Duck whipped around when he heard Miranda saying that. "I heard that! And no, I want to find something more suitable than Danger Duck. How does Spunky Duck sound? Or-or better yet Quantum Duck? Nah, no one would know what that means. Ooh, how about Super Duper Duck? Super Duper Duck to the rescue! I would say that fits quite well, don't you think?"
Lexi and Miranda exchanged a glance with one another, a knowing look that stated that such a name didn't sound appealing for a superhero. No villain was going to care what their names were anyway, unless Duck was doing it for his ego, which wouldn't have been surprising for Miranda or any of the team members.
Lexi let out a sigh and rolled her eyes away from Duck. "He's worried about his name and I'm worried that I won't be able to afford this outfit. I mean, look at it!" she said as she pointed to the page on the magazine that they were looking in and the amount of money that it cost, "some celebrities get to have all the fun."
Miranda responded to her with a shrug of her shoulders. "At least they're not fighting crime like we are!"
At least his friends were at least having some sort of fun. Rev walked across the lounge and sat in front of Tech. The coyote was too immersed in his reading that he didn't notice Rev at first, until he felt a presence that was there causing him to look up at the roadrunner. "Hey," Tech said as he looked at him, "you're back. How did it go?" he asked.
Even if they were at a distance from the rest of the team, Rev didn't feel comfortable talking to Tech in front of the others. With Lexi's super hearing and Miranda's telepathy, they were bound to pick up on something. It wasn't that he didn't trust the girls but he felt more comfortable with someone that he had known before the others. "Let's-go-to-the-lab," Rev said to him, trying his hardest to keep his voice low and steady.
Hmm Tech thought as he placed down his magazine and followed the roadrunner to the laboratory. He shut the door behind them and turned around to look at his friend. "What happened?" he asked him.
"Well-lots-of-things," Rev answered, "I-went-down-there-and-she-was-so-happy-the-happiest-I've-ever-seen-her.-She-signed-a-contract-with-someone-to-help-her-business-take-off."
That held both the pros and the cons, according to Tech. The pros being that if her business was going to be successful, she could easily pay off whatever loan was offered and have money to herself. The con was what if her business wasn't successful? How was she going to be able to pay off the loan? He looked at Rev as he continued to speak.
"I-think-I-asked-her-at-the-wrong-time," he said. "I-should've-waited."
"She said 'no?'" Tech asked him.
"Her-exact-words-were-'I-can't-have-any-distractions,'" he respoke those words and shrugged his shoulder as if he those words meant nothing to him. He looked at Tech and threw his arms in the air before letting them fall to his side. "That-was-it.-At-least,-if-I'm-looking-on-the-bright-side,-we're-still-friends."
If anyone had said that to Tech, he wouldn't want to see them again let alone give his friendship to them. There was something about Michelle that had put him off from the moment he had met her. Other than her prejudice against canines, there was something that she lacked. Reasonable thinking. Even if he didn't know a lot about her, he had his assumptions that she was quick to jump into something based on her emotions than to slow down at think things through. He didn't like her the moment that he had seen her those months ago when she was looking for a job, but he wasn't going to state that to Rev.
Rev let out a small chuckle. "I've-been-called-annoying-before-but-a-distraction?-First-time-for-everything-right?"
"I don't think that's fair," Tech suddenly spoke up. "You can be in a relationship and still run a business."
Rev shrugged his shoulders when Tech said that. If he was to think of his father, he had sacrificed a lot to get to the business that he had now. But was it worth it to sacrifice meaningful relationships over something like this? "Michelle-didn't-see-it-that-way-I-guess," Rev sighed as he placed his hands at the end of the table and bowed his head. "I-can't-believe-I-ruined-it."
"Quit being hard on yourself. It's not worth it," Tech told him, "you didn't ruin anything. If she didn't realize how precious your friendship was to her, then she's not worth it."
Even those words stung. All this time, had his feelings been wasted towards someone whom he meant nothing to? He knew that Tech was trying to make him feel better and deal with these emotions in a mature manner, but he didn't expect it to be this difficult.
Tech hoped he had not sounded too harsh with his words, but that was the reality of what he understood. He walked across the table and placed a hand on Rev's shoulder. Just like the roadrunner had been there for him during those hard times that he had been through, he was going to do the same for his teammate. "I'm sorry that you're going through this."
Rev let out a small chuckle. "It's-okay-I-guess," he said to the coyote, "live-and-learn."
A/N: After this chapter, we shall be diving into the episodes. I will try my best to keep the episodes as they were, with some additions and changes. Thank you for your reviews thus far!
