I don't own Loonatics Unleashed
A/N: In this random chapter, I decided to give the Loonatics a break from crime fighting. I'm sure that they had enough with four back-to-back-chapters until they get back to it again. Thank you for your reviews!
Enjoy!
Peace. That was the way that Acmetropolis needed to be. The number of times that the Loonatics had to face this form of tranquility always led to something tremendous happening in the city. That's why the next couple of weeks, the team members decided to do something altogether before they were caught in a mission. They squeezed in their training for a couple of hours during the day, but in the late afternoon, it was a time for recreation.
Ace let out a puff of air as he lounged on one of the couches and looked at his teammates that were gathered in the lounge, everybody but Tech. "Alright gang," he spoke up, "what's on the agenda today? We went to the amusement park two weeks ago, we headed to the park the week before, what else do we got?"
The first thing that came to Lexi's mind was to get some shopping done but Miranda quickly beat her to it. "Not with the boys, Lex," she said to the female bunny after having read her mind, "they're gonna be complaining until we get out…trust me, I know." She could feel Duck's slight glare but she didn't care for it.
"We really got to do something about this reading minds thing," Lexi said to her, even though it wasn't a very critical thought. "How about the movies?" Lexi suggested, "we haven't gone there in a while."
Ace chuckled at that. "The last movie I remember seein' was with basketball and aliens…it was the day when I saw you again," he said as he looked over at Lexi, reminiscing the memory.
Lexi slowly glanced down at the ground and involuntarily ran a hand over her bangs as she tried to hide a secret smile upon her lips. "It was so long ago," she spoke up, "and can you believe how far we've gotten?"
Ace nodded his head to her. "Yeah, our paths crossed again. What a small world."
Miranda looked from Ace and then over at Lexi. There was no way that she was going to get into their minds and hear what they were thinking of one another. Some things, perhaps, were meant to be kept a secret and that was something that she needed to respect. However, going to the movies was the perfect opportunity to see some sparks between these two bunnies. She turned her head over to Rev Runner who was typing away on his phone, playing a small game. "Hey Rev," she said as the roadrunner held him finger in the air.
"Just-a-sec-Miranda-I'm-almost-done-with-this-level-and-baby-I'm-getting-a-high-score-and-done!-What-can-I-do-for-you?" he asked as he looked up at her.
Well, that was quick! Miranda thought and smiled at Rev. "Can you check what's playing at the local theaters?"
"Sure-thing," Rev nodded his head as he quickly pulled up the showtimes of the movies that were playing. "Let's-see-we've-got-action-comedy-romance-who-doesn't-love-a-good-romantic-film-I-sure-do-drama-Western-and-ooh-they're-playing-'Away-with-the-Breeze'-is-premiering-it's-already-been-a-month-wow-time-sure-does-fly-when-you're-on-missions-and-saving-the-city!"
It was difficult keeping up with Rev as he rapidly spoke but she was able to catch the title of the movie 'Away with the Breeze' an epic romantic movie between two grebes and the conflict happening between their families. "What time is 'Away with the Breeze' playing?" she asked.
Rev quickly scanned through the times. "Eight-o'clock-on-the-dot!" Rev stated, "and-a-lot-of-people-are-going-to-be-at-the-premier!"
"Perfect!" Miranda perked up, "then we can go at that time."
"I guess we know what this means," Lexi said, "Tony Grebe and the actress that played his love interest in the movie are going to be there."
Ace rolled his eyes and shook his head. "I heard of this guy when I met you and Andrea and I still don't get what they hype is."
"If we try to explain it," Miranda spoke up, "none of you are going to understand it."
"Please," Duck scoffed when the actor's name was dropped in the conversation, "he's not even that great. Just because he always plays a leading man and has a pencil mustache doesn't make him the one and only."
"He's-made-a-great-breakthrough-in-cinema-of-the-twenty-eighth-century-so-he's-the-current-hot-news-of-the-media-outlet-not-to-mention-that-he's-one-of-my-favorites," Rev added.
"See?" Miranda said, "Rev gets it."
"Nobody asked Rev," Duck said.
"I-just-wish-Eloise-Swan-was-casted-though," Rev spoke, completely ignoring what Duck had said to him.
"Didn't-she-and-Tony-have-a-falling-out?" Lexi asked him, "it-was-quite-the-scandal."
And this is where Ace decided to get up from his couch and walked over to the kitchen. He looked over and saw how engrossed Lexi, Miranda, and Rev were at the personal life of this actor and he was glad that he was out of that niche and doing something more important that affected the wellbeing of others.
As Ace was busying himself with some carrot juice, Tech walked out of his lab and decided to finally join the team. "Any news, chief?" he asked Ace.
"Nada," Ace answered him and took a gulp of the carrot juice, "we're thinking about heading over to the movies. Seems like the girls and Rev wanna watch that epic romantic movie. 'Gone with the Flow' or something."
Tech couldn't help but chuckle at Ace's attempt to remember the name with the movie, but he understood that movie that he meant. "It's gonna be a three-hour film," he said, "what are we going to do if we get a call from Zadavia? Movie people don't like to be interrupted."
Ace looked over at Tech with a smirk. "I didn't take you to be a theatre coyote, Tech."
Tech shook his head and let out a sigh. "I'm not, but Quinn dragged me along after a long session of tutoring. She said that 'I needed to get out more.' And when I commented on a scene, someone in the audience turned around and shushed me."
Can't argue with her there Ace thought. The number of times that he had caught Tech mourning a failed invention or speaking to his devices as if they were real and even going as far as to call them his 'babies,' Ace wondered if he ever had any moments tojust himself…and that didn't include meditating. "Then this will be a perfect opportunity," Ace spoke up, "the whole team is going to go."
"You sure you don't want someone to stay behind?" Tech asked him, "I can if you want."
"Nope," Ace shook his head, "HQ doesn't need to be babysat. I'll take care of it." He motioned for Tech to follow him to the group. "Hey gang, did you all decide on a movie?"
"Definitely-'Away-with-the-Breeze,'" Rev answered,
Duck rolled his eyes. "Yawn," he spoke up, "what about that movie with those intergalactic aliens and basketball? That's a classic."
"That movie is seven hundred and seventy-six years old!" Ace stated, even though he had seen it a long time ago, "get with the times Duck."
"Okay," Lexi said as she held her arms in the air before a fight broke out between them, "let's settle this with a vote. Those in favor for the alien movie?"
Slam and Duck raised their hands in the air.
"Those in favor for 'Away with the Breeze?'" Lexi added as she raised her hand, followed by Rev, Miranda, Ace, and Tech…and Slam. "You can only vote once Slam," she smiled to the Tasmanian devil who apologize and put down his hand. "Alright, looks like 'Away with the Breeze' wins."
Duck took a deep breath and rolled his eyes. "Great," he complained, "three hours of nothing."
Lexi stood up on her feet and motioned for Miranda to follow her. Going to the movies during premier night, especially on an unofficial date with Ace Bunny, equated to dressing well and putting on a little bit of makeup for a night of fun.
In the meantime, Ace motioned for the boys to get ready for the night. He had something that he needed to take care of first. He walked over to the round table and dialed Zadavia's hologram and she was quick to respond. Is she ever busy? Ace thought at the quick response.
"Why Ace," Zadavia smiled to the leader, "it's so good to see you. I am sure you and the team has been enjoying some quiet time."
Ace nodded his head to her. "Yeah, this has practically felt like a vacation. No mutant-Vikings, fuzzballs, and no bad weathers of the sort that want to take over Acmetropolis. Anyway, we planned on going out tonight to the movies. I just wanted to make you aware in case something comes up and we're not here."
Zadavia nodded her head to him. She admired Ace for not only his bravery, but for his professionalism, and she felt that she had made the perfect choice in choosing him as the leader for the team. "I appreciate your disclosure. If anything does occur, I will be sure to contact you on the telecommunicator, but I do hope that this turns out to be another night of fun for you and the team. Enjoy."
"Thanks, Zadavia," Ace smiled to her before the hologram shut off. With that, Ace jumped down the steps of the round table and headed to get ready for the movies.
Duck tapped his foot and looked at his watch. "Ugh," he groaned and rolled his eyes, "what is taking them so long? We're going to the movies not ballroom dancing!"
Ace glanced down at his watch. "Calm down Duck, it's only six o'clock."
"Which I don't get why we have to be there so early when it starts at eight," Tech added.
"It's the premier," Ace explained to him, "I guess the actors are doing a little meet and greet with the fans before they head into the theaters for the movie."
One of the doors to the room opened and out walked Lexi Bunny as she donned a slim one shoulder dress that hugged her figure. She had her blonde locks curled and a red clip in the shape of a flower in her hair.
Whoa Ace blinked. He never thought that he was ever going to see Lexi in something so stunning before. Not that she wasn't stunning but this dress put her in a whole other level. He cleared his throat and gave Lexi his signature smile as she approached the group. "Lookin' sharp there, Lex," he said, which earned him a smile. "You might as well just be the star of the premier than those maroons."
"Oh stop," Lexi blushed at his comment and looked at him up and down in the black and white suit that he was wearing. She approved.
Looking over at the rest of the boys, it was nice to see Tech in a beige suit with a white shirt and black shoes. Slam looked personable in a white shirt and navy-blue suit with matching pants, and Duck looked handsome in a full on bright blue suit and pants with a white shirt underneath. As for Rev, who looked just as striking as everyone else, wore the same outfit that he did when they headed to the club that night.
Just then, Miranda finally came out of her room and joined the group. Her outfit consisted of a black blazer, black pants, heels, and a white shirt underneath. Duck was shocked to see that she hadn't put much effort in her outfit, especially since they were going at a premier, but he didn't bother to ask her why.
Now that the team was all set to go, Ace led the team out of headquarters and over to the theatre. He was surprised to see so many people there. Fans cheered as they threw their arms in the air with photographs and pens in their grip, hoping to get an autograph from the actor and actress.
"Tony! Tony! Tony!" the crowd chanted as an elegant grebe looked on with a great smile upon his beak and waved at the crowd.
The Loonatics squeezed into the crowd. Duck had been in tight spaces before but this was too much! He held his arms out to his side and pushed the crowd of people away from him, making it easier for him to breathe.
"Anyone feeling kind of claustrophobic?" Lexi asked as she tried to squeeze herself through a fan that was practically pushing herself in front of the red velvet ropes that partitioned the crowd and the red carpet. "Whoa!" Lexi yelled as she fell forward and landed on her hands.
When he saw the lady falling in front of him like that, Tony Grebe took a step back and looked down. "Everyone take it easy!" he called out to the crowd as they took a step back. He knelt and grabbed a hold of Lexi's hand, "you alright sweetheart?" he asked as he helped her up to her feet, "that was a nasty fall."
"Lexi!" Ace yelled as he ran towards her, "you okay?" he asked and looked at the hand that was holding hers.
"Yeah," Lexi nodded her head as she looked at Tony, "all good Ace."
"Thank goodness," Tony said, "sorry about this crowd. I didn't know I had this many fans."
Ace raised an eyebrow. "Really? You're the most well-known actor in all Acmetropolis. Are you sure you're the real Tony Grebe?"
"Feathers, beak, and all," Tony joked with Ace before he titled his head to the side. "Say…that accent sounds very familiar. Weren't you in an action film that starred a hero getting beat up by a robot to save a girl. I think it was in one of those first movies. I remember seeing a rabbit ear pop out in one of the scenes."
"Yeah," Ace nervously said, "it was on one of the first movies of the franchise. Not that great of a film but I guess acting didn't really work out."
"That's a shame," Tony said, "I would've liked to have seen more of you in the theatres."
Oh, he would be seeing more of him alright but as a superhero. With this fate that had been given to him, Ace was not going to change it with anything. Ace's ears then perked up when he saw the rest of his teammates fighting through the crowd. Both Tech and Slam were able to meet them at the front, whereas Duck, Rev, and Miranda were fighting on who was going to meet him first.
"Coming through!" Duck's voice rung from the crowd of people, "can't you see that you're blocking a superhero's path!" he stumbled forward and almost fell in front of the velvet ropes. "Mr. Grebe, hi. Danger Duck here. I just wanted to say that—"
"I'm your biggest fan!" Miranda shouted as she came in front of the group.
"I'm-your-biggest-fan!" Rev said in unison with Miranda as he sped over to the group.
Duck threw his arm at his side and glared at them. "Way to steal my thunder!"
"Oh come on Rev," Miranda said, "how many movies can you name from him off the top of your head?"
"All-of-them," Rev answered her, "but-since-we're-tight-on-time-I'm-gonna-give-you-the-top-five-there's-It-Happened-One-Morning-Freedom-The-Sitting-Lady-Morning-Doctor-Conformist."
Tony raised an eyebrow and nodded his head, very impressed that Rev knew more about his filmography than the average fan. "Quite impressive my friend," he smiled at the roadrunner. He called over to his assistant and she gave him a photograph of himself. "Who should I make this to?"
Duck proudly raised his finger in the air. "Danger—mmph!" he said and then glared at Miranda who grabbed onto his beak to quiet him.
"Rev-Runner," the roadrunner said to him as Tony wrote:
To Rev Runner
Best Wishes from Tony Grebe
He handed the photograph to the roadrunner and bid his goodbyes to the group as he headed inside the theater. "Guys!" Rev excitedly said as he whipped around and looked at the team, "I'm-going-to-cherish-this-forever!"
Lexi smiled as she looked at her fellow teammate. "Can't say that I'm not jealous but I'm glad that we had the chance to meet with him."
"Speak for yourself!" Duck exclaimed, "I never got the chance to say anything!"
Miranda put her hands on her hips and looked at him. "I thought you didn't like him, Duck."
"I just wanted an autograph," Duck simply said as he turned his eyes and looked at Miranda, "so I could give it to you."
Miranda's features softened when he said that. "Really?" she asked him, "well, that's nice of you considering how you kept on criticizing him." She chuckled and threw her arms around his neck, pulling him close.
After a while of waiting, the doors of the theatre opened and people began to take their seats to view the premier of the movie. Ace kept his ears on high alert in case he was to get a call from Zadavia but as they got an hour into the movie, there were no calls from her. As the movie progressed, Ace became entranced in the conflict that was happening between Tony's character and the actress, Gloria Grebe, that was playing his love interest. Who knew that fictional drama could be so enticing!
Lexi possessed the same feelings. She jumped in her seat when Gloria's father yelled at her that she was 'never to see that boy again!' It was such a harsh thing to say to one's daughter, even if they were in love with the son of an enemy.
Rev squeezed his popcorn bag tightly against him as he watched the scenes develop in front of his eyes. The secret meetings that the characters had with one another, the passionate kisses that they shared, and the planning of their future together! He couldn't believe the amount of drama that was created between these two characters.
Slam stared at the screen; a bit perplexed at what was occurring. It wasn't because he didn't understand what was happening but he wondered why these people needed to put through such torture to get together in the end. If it was him, he would have just left the country with the girl never to be seen again.
Tech leaned back against his seat. The movie wasn't pulling him into the pointless drama that went through the main characters. Tony's character was too demanding and Gloria's character was too spoiled. I could've built fifty devices by now! he thought to himself, wishing that he was back at HQ.
Duck shared mutual feelings as Tech did. Another hour put into the movie and it was beginning to get annoying. However, one thing that he was glad about was that he was at least spending some time with Miranda outside of HQ. He stretched his arms and threw one over Miranda's shoulders, pulling her closely to him. Even though she was watching the movie, he could tell that she was just as bored as he was.
In the last hour of the movie, Lexi had a wad of tissues in front of her as she tried to keep her tears at bay. She couldn't believe that both characters ended their strong love for one another and parted ways.
Upon that ending, Ace blinked before he whispered to Lexi, "I thought they were going to pull a Romeo and Juliette for a second there." Lexi tried her hardest to keep herself from crying but it didn't go unnoticed for Ace handed her an unused tissue that he had from his pocket and she gladly took it.
The screen of the theatres slowly turned black and the lights turned on, indicating that the film had finished. Finally! Duck thought as he jumped to his feet.
"Man," Ace said, "that was intense."
"I-know," Rev agreed with him, "I-was-at-the-edge-of-my-seat-on-what-was-going-on-I-was-hoping-that-they-would-end-up-together-in-the-end-but-I-hated-that-ending!-They-didn't-seem-right-for-each-other-in-the-beginning-but-as-the-movie-went-on-they-were-perfect-I-was-shipping-it-hoping-that-it-would-sail-but-no-they-had-to-give-us-that-plot-twist-where-we'll-never-know-how-their-love-will-be-in-the-future!" he let out a disappointed sigh, "and-I-wanted-a-sequel!"
"I for one had a great time," Lexi said after her eyes had adjusted from all the crying, "but it's a film to see once every two years. It was very long."
"I know," Tech said as he did a little stretch, hearing his bones crack, "that's why I'm glad it finally over. Can't wait to head over to HQ."
It had been quite the enjoyable night, in Ace's opinion. There was no crime to fight and he got the chance to be with his teammates, watching a movie. However, one of the greatest highlights for him was that, even if it sounded naïve, was that he sat next to Lexi and that he enjoyed every moment of being with her.
