I don't own Loonatics Unleashed

Enjoy!

Another quiet day in Acmetropolis. Lexi looked at the calendar hanging from the kitchen wall as she marked the day with a red marker. It may have been a quiet couple of weeks, but it had been a little bit monotonous for the team. Ever since they had returned from the planetoid from defeating Optimatus, they had been welcomed back to Earth to defeat Massive, Weathervane, Mastermind, and Sypher. It had been a mission that was accomplished but the next days that followed, the Loonatics had been very exhausted. Lexi felt that she needed at least two weeks to rest but she couldn't do that. Ever since she had become part of the team, she had disciplined herself to train, fearing that she would forget everything that she had learned. Thank goodness for that stimulation room that was able to keep her busy for a good period.

She detached herself from the kitchen well and wrapped her hands around a warm cup of coffee that she had prepared for the afternoon. Being next to the window with a warm cup and looking out at the peaceful city made her feel at ease. She couldn't remember when she had done something like this, but she was going to enjoy every single minute of it.

"Hey," a familiar voice suddenly caught her attention as she turned around to look at whom it was. "Wanna join us in the game room?" Ace asked as he approached her, "Tech and Rev are going up against each other on a game of chess."

As intriguing as that idea sounded, Lexi was not willing to spend her coffee time watching her teammates move chess pieces on a board. She had to admit, having Tech and Rev facing off one another was a good match. "Is it just them two playing or…"

"Duck joined but lost in the first round," Ace said and shook his head, "you know how it goes. But what are you up to, enjoying your cup of coffee?" he asked her with a smirk upon his lips.

Lexi held up her cup as if she was going to give him a salute. "Keeps me awake," she said to him.

"And hyper," Ace added, considering the effects that coffee might have to some. "Anyway, I never got the chance to ask you, how are you feeling…after everything?"

Lexi wondered what he was asking her. By 'everything' did he mean about what had happened back on that planetoid weeks ago? She felt that it was naïve to ask him, since that was one of the most eventful things that had happened. "I'm getting there," she answered him, "I'm not the only one who has been feeling tired, but I got my best friend right here," she said as she held the coffee cup in the air once more. She pulled the cup close to her, feeling the warmth spread into her hands. There was one event that had worried her, that she couldn't stop thinking about ever since they had returned home.

"What are you thinking about?" Ace suddenly asked her, as if he had been reading her mind.

Lexi made a mental note to keep him as far away from Miranda's influence as possible. There was no need for Ace to start reading her mind now. She felt that she ought to honest and tell him about how horrified she had been after she had seen his name on the spacesuit that had fluttered in her front of her eyes after the explosion. How would he react if she said it? One thing that she feared was that he would dismiss it and laugh it off as a joke. "Just how quiet these past couple of days have been," Lexi answered. So, it wasn't a total lie but she wished she had the courage to at least say what she wanted.

"Thinking of taking a vacation?" Ace asked her.

A light chuckle escaped her lips. "Unless we want to plan that weekend getaway to Acmepulco," Lexi said. Come to think of it, they didn't have a chance to go there at all after defeating Black Velvet for what seemed like ages ago. "I was thinking of hanging out with Andrea." There was a slight shrug of her shoulders, "I don't know when the last time was I sat down and talked with her…other than being on the phone."

Ace raised a playful eyebrow at her when she said that. "Oh…so that's why our phone bill has been so high."

Lexi raised her eyes and gave him a playful look. "Shh," she said as she placed an index finger upon her lips, "don't tell Duck."

Ace gave her a small smile in return as he silently looked at her. He felt that it was silly of him to be feeling this way, especially when they had been working together for over a year now. However, the last mission had put everything into perspective for him. When he and Rev had ejected from that spaceship, a shiver had run down Ace's spine when he saw how that spaceship exploded. If he had Rev had been in there…he didn't even want to think about it. He had noticed the hurt looks on his teammates faces, but the one that had stood out to him the most was Lexi's. Even though she was in control of her emotions, he could tell that she was distraught. With this job and after what he had experienced, Ace felt that their time could be limited and that he had to take the opportunity when it was given to him. He couldn't believe how immature he had been on their last meeting at the bakery. He hoped that this time they would have something to talk about, other than the missions they have been on.

"Look Lex," he said as he turned his full attention upon her, "these past couple of weeks have been very quiet and I don't know when we'll have the opportunity for these days again." He noticed that he had caught her off guard from that question. It was then that his mind hesitated to continue that question.

God he thought, mentally kicking himself for being so cowardly. Take a deep breath and out with it! It'll be like pulling off a Band-Aid. I very, very painful Band-Aid.

Lexi placed her empty coffee cup in the sink and looked at Ace with her arms folded across her chest, as he tried to struggle with the words that he was trying to form in his mouth.

Ace finally managed to take a deep breath and was finally to calm his nerves. "Do you…do you wanna go out?" he finally asked her. It was as if a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders when he came out with that question. Now it all depended on what she had to say.

Finally Lexi thought. She would be lying if she said that she was caught off guard. Through the past year that they had worked together, Lexi had felt something between them, but had not questioned it for she wanted to keep her position as professional as she could. However, how could she say 'no' when she shared the same feelings as he did? "Ace," she said.

Ace watched her blinked as she let her arms fall to her side, as if she was dropping all her defenses and allowing herself to be open to him. Don't tell me I ruined it? Ace pleaded. Not only would it be awkward, but he didn't know if she would forgive him for being so bold into asking her for something that she probably wasn't ready for.

Lexi took a step towards Ace, until she was in proximity with him. "Ace," she said to him again, with more confidence in her voice, "I would love to go out with you."

Ace felt as if he could hear fireworks ringing in his ears. Wait a second…he looked out and saw that there were fireworks happening in downtown Acmetropolis of whatever they were celebrating. In any case, Ace was surely going to be celebrating something real soon. He was elated when she had accepted his offer and he didn't know how to react.

Lexi noticed the shine in his eyes when she answered him. Finally he had managed to ask her and she was glad that they had finally reached this moment. "You okay there, Skipper?" she asked him, "cat got your tongue?"

A chuckle escaped Ace's lips upon her question. "Nah, more like my—cat!" he then exclaimed, "I forgot to catch up with Zadavia on that cat burglar."

Lexi understood that it was important to keep Zadavia up to date with what was happening, but since the past couple of weeks had been quiet, then there was no harm in Zadavia waiting a little longer. "I'm sure it can wait for a while," Lexi said to him with a smile, "how about we catch a movie tonight?" she suggested, "and I promise we won't watch a three-hour film this time."

It wasn't that Ace had minded when the whole team had seen 'Away with the Breeze.' This time, it was just going to be him and Lexi and sharing that intimate moment was going to be worth it. "What are you up for?" he asked her.

Comedy would get them a couple of laughs but she wasn't up for it. Romance was going to be too cheesy for this date and drama, well she wasn't in the mood for that either. "How about a good scare?" she asked him.

Ace's eyes slightly widened when she suggested that. "Geeze Lex," he said to her, "I didn't know you'd be the one to like horror movies."

"I like a good scare," Lexi answered him, "I'll let you pick what's playing in theaters, how about that?"

Ace watched as she walked away from him. Oh boy he thought as he took hold of his tablet and looked through the horror films that were playing in the theatres. So many choices to choose from and whichever one he picked, he hoped that it would be the one to impress her.

Ace would be lying if he said he didn't have a hard time picking the right movie for them to watch. Out of all the horror movies that were being shown, he hoped that this one didn't have as much gore as the others did. He was over by the lounge area and waited for Lexi to meet him there. Naturally, he left Tech in charge of the team in case anything was to happen, which he hoped nothing would happen that would ruin their date.

"Ready to go?" Lexi asked as she walked at the lounge area. She was out of her usual superhero outfit and sported a pink shirt with a pleated skirt. Even though she was quite the tough girl in the group, Ace loved seeing the feminine side of her. "Seems like you're ready to get outta here," she commented as she looked at Ace's outfit, that consisted of a pair of blue jeans, a yellow shirt, and a black jacket.

"I was ready to get outta that suit too," Ace added and opened the door for her to head out of HQ.

The walk to the theaters mostly consisted of anything that didn't involve their work. Ace tried his hardest to steer clear from that. It was a bit difficult at first, but it was nice that Acmetropolis offered some topic of conversations that they could talk about. There was a festival that was going to be held, honoring the bloom of a cherry tree by the park, a concert that was to be held by a band that they both liked, and the opening of a new Chinese restaurant at Chinatown downtown.

"I look forward to the Warners band playing next month," Lexi said to Ace as they took a turn down the block, "have you seen how quickly their little bandmate plays those drums?"

"They don't call him Swifty Gonzales for nothin'," Ace smirked, keeping in mind that this concert was going to be another event that he was going to take her to.

The two of them suddenly came upon the theaters as Ace bought their tickets and they entered inside. Of course it wouldn't be considered 'going to the movies' without a bucket of large popcorn to share and a carrot drink. After purchasing the food, the two bunnies made themselves comfortable on the theater chairs and waited for the movie to begin.

"I'm so glad that we got the chance to do this," Lexi suddenly spoke up as she waited for the movie, "it feels so long ago when we went to the movies."

"You would think that movie theaters wouldn't exist anymore now that everything has become so high-tech," Ace said to her, "I'm glad that some places around this city were able to keep some things retro."

A smile formed upon Lexi's lips. "We ought to find a drive-in theater next time. Imagine how fun those will be."

Just then, the lights in the theatre began to dim as some movie trailers began to play. Just then, the room became completely dark and the movie began to play.

Ace leaned back against his chair as he kept his attention at the plot that was unraveling in front of his eyes. For a horror film, there were no so many jump scares as he expected there to be, but the music that played throughout certain scenes was enough to make the atmosphere feel as if he was living part of that scene. Don't go in that door, don't go in that—awh, nuts! What did you do that for? he thought as he looked at the secondary character that walked inside a door, only to never come out again. He flinched when he felt something grab his hand. He looked down and saw Lexi's hand on top of his as she squeezed his hand in the scene that she was witnessing.

Lexi's eyes were wide. What was going to happen now to the main character when he found out that his fiancée was never going to be seen again. Oh God she thought as she watched him walk down the stairs of the house and outside, after he had discovered an arm that fell on the floor when he opened the door of the closet. She let out a sigh of relief when he was out of the house. Just then, a pair of hands reached out a grabbed him by the face, pulling him inside a bush where they could hear his screams.

Ace gritted his teeth from the screaming that filled the theatres and once they stopped, it was dead silent. The bushes rustled against the wind until a pair of beady yellow eyes came from within the shadows of the bush. A growl was heard as a bloody hand shot out to the ground. A hand that had an engagement ring upon her finger…and the screen turned to black.

"No…way…" Lexi said as the lights came on in the theatre. She blinked and turned her eyes at Ace. "I knew it. I knew it was her the whole time."

"She gives a whole new meaning to the word 'Bridezilla,'" Ace said, finally able to find his breath. He let out a sigh and got up from the chair. "Did you enjoy it?" he asked her.

Lexi then stood up from her chair and smiled at Ace. "I did," she said to him. "It had quite the mystery element. I hope you were okay with it."

A light chuckle escaped Ace's lips. "I was the one that picked the movie, Lex. I just hope it wasn't too scary for you."

"Please, the bio-pets were a lot scarier than a she-wolf," Lexi answered him. She looked down at her watch and noticed that they had spent a good two hours away from HQ. At least they didn't have any emergencies that they needed to get to. However, Lexi didn't want this night to end. She looked at Ace with a hopeful look in her eyes and asked, "want to head down to the bakery?" she asked him, "my sweet tooth is tingling."

Just like Lexi, Ace didn't want to head back to HQ either. The night was still young and beautiful to enjoy it. He held out his arm towards her as she gladly grabbed onto it as they both headed down to the local bakery for a sweet ending to their night out.
