I don't own Loonatics Unleashed
Enjoy!
It seemed that the day had dragged on. When six thirty finally rolled around, Lexi had locked herself inside her bedroom as she began to get ready for the movie date with Ace. Normally it didn't take her too long to apply her makeup but for this occasion, she wanted everything to be perfect. Even though this was just a second official date, the two had been spending a lot of time together whether it was in the presence of their teammates or not. There was nothing for them to be shy about and Lexi was glad that Ace didn't have that type of personality. It wouldn't surprise her if the team already knew the feelings that they shared with one another. Even so, Lexi was waiting for that right moment where the two would finally share a kiss. Whenever that day would come, she hoped that she would be ready for it.
Giving her bangs one last adjustment, Lexi surveyed her work on her vanity mirror and gave it a nod of approval. She may have that tomboyish personality, but there were moments where her femininity would show and it was just as wonderful. She walked out of her room and headed towards the lounge area of HQ where she noticed Rev and Duck sitting at the couches. She was surprised that Ace wasn't ready yet, but then again, she wondered if he was trying to perfect this second date just as much as she was.
Rev looked up from his magazine and his eyes widened at Lexi. She wore a white sweater, blue jeans with a belt fastened around her waist, and black shoes. "Lexi-you-look-remarkable!" he commented.
Duck gave her sideway glance before he turned his attention over at the television.
Of course Rev would be the one giving her such sweet compliments. "Aww thanks," she smiled to the roadrunner.
It wasn't long when Ace finally came out of his room. The first thing that caught Lexi's attention was that hat that he had one his head, followed with a scarf around his neck, jeans, and a plaid shirt. It looked familiar to her since he wore that to the Luxury Rocket Industry and she couldn't help but chuckle. "Trying to fit in with the aesthetic?" Lexi asked him.
"'Course," Ace nodded his head to her, "it ain't a western film if you're not dressed up for it, partner."
Duck let out a groan and rolled his eyes at the accent that Ace attempted. He looked at the attire that Ace wore, only to shake his head. "You look tacky," he commented to him.
"Eh," Ace shrugged his shoulders, "it was the best I could do in a short time notice." He looked over at Lexi with a smile and held his arm out towards her, "ready to jet?"
"It's about time," Lexi smiled. She approached Ace and wrapped her arm around his as they made their way out of HQ and to their destination.
The place was called a 'drive-in' for a reason. All those cars that were parked next to each other, Ace feared he wouldn't be able to find a parking spot. "I guess we should've come a little earlier," he commented to Lexi as his eyes moved from one occupied spot to another.
"I see one over there…right next to that silver car," she pointed in front of them and Ace immediately went over and parked to the spot. It wasn't close or far away from the screen so they were at the perfect position. Thank goodness for Lexi's quick eyes in securing the spot before someone else did.
Ace put the vehicle on park and shut off the engine before he fell back on his seat and relaxed. He pressed a button on the steering wheel and opened the hood of the car.
"Nice idea," Lexi said with a nod of approval. The night air wasn't as chilly but it was just perfect enough for the breeze to gently caress her cheeks. She turned her head towards the silver car that was next to them and her eyes widened. "No way," she said as she put her hands over her mouth and yelled, "hey Andrea!"
The female rabbit that occupied the silver car almost jumped out of the car's window when she saw Lexi. "Ain't you a sight for sore eyes!" she yelled as she lifted half of her body out the window. She greeted Ace and gave Lexi and knowing look. Finally she mouthed over to Lexi when Ace moved his gaze away from her.
"Come on honey, move," Hunter said to Andrea as he made his way to the seat and held his hand towards Ace. "Name's Hunter Bunny. How do you do?"
"You must be Hunter," Ace said as he grasped the male rabbit's hand and gave it a firm shake.
"That's right," Hunter said, "though you don't seem like you're from the south. I can spot that Brooklyn accent a mile away."
"Nah," Ace shook his head, "I mainly wore this since we're seeing a western film. Thought I could fit the…as Lexi said it, the aesthetic."
"Well you're halfway there, partner," Hunter chuckled good naturedly, "enjoy the show you two, we'll catch up later." The two of them pulled away from the window when the music from the speakers began to play.
The atmosphere was suddenly quiet when the introductory music finished playing. Ace furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at the screen, expecting for the next scene to start playing out. Unless the hi-tech projection was broken. If that was the case, then this second date was going to be a bust. He peeked over at Lexi, who was waiting for any action to unfold. "Think they ought to do something about—" Ace was saying.
POW!
"—OH GOD!" Ace yelled as he found himself jumping in his seat and placing a hand on his chest from the loud noise of a gun going off. Out of all the weapons that he had been faced with, why did this have to scare him the most?
Lexi wasn't immune to these noises either, but the way Ace jumped in his seat was enough to send her into a fit of giggles. She pressed her hand over her mouth and tried to drown out the laughs that were trying to escape.
Ace felt embarrassed for having yelled like that. At least it was just Lexi with him and not the whole crew, otherwise he knew that they would never let him forget it. Finally relaxing his mind from the fright, he leaned back against his seat and watched as the movie unfolded in front of them. The main character, a cowboy who was an outlaw and wanted for fifty thousand dollars, headed into a saloon where he fell in love with a young singer. Unfortunately, she was already engaged to the town's cowboy but she didn't return the same feelings.
A little chuckle escaped from Lexi. "Well gee," she said, "I wonder what's going to happen next." This storyline was a classic. One of those 'been there, done that' but yet it received a lot of acceptance from the audience.
Ace raised an eyebrow when he looked at the young singer's fiancé. "That guy's lookin' like the cowboy my ancestor ran away from…what was that name? Ah, Yosemite Sam."
"Let's hope he didn't leave any descendants behind," Lexi commented. She kept her eyes glued to the screen where a gunfight unfolded between the main character and the villain. Lexi blinked when she saw the outcome. "Oh no," she said, "he got shot."
Ace watched as the main character clenched onto his chest when a bullet penetrated through his flesh and he fell to the ground. "Tsk, tsk, tsk," Ace clicked his tongue against his teeth and shook his head, "what a plot twist...but the werewolf one was better."
"But there wasn't any jump scare in this one…well, almost none, Skipper," Lexi grinned as she looked back at Ace. "Hey!" she chuckled when Ace plopped his hat onto her head when she made such a comment.
From the vehicle next to them, Andrea popped out her head and looked at her friends. "What did ya'll think?"
"It was alright," Ace answered her.
"Really?" Andrea asked him, "I hated it."
"What?!" Hunter exclaimed next to her, "they're the greatest actors in western film."
"Not as great as Tony Grebe," Andrea disagreed with him and turned her attention back to Ace and Lexi. "But at least ya'll got to spend some time together."
And that was something that both rabbits had been looking forward to all day. Even though the movie hadn't been up to par, Lexi wished that they could extend the night a little more before heading back to HQ, but they both knew that these moments had their limitations.
"Of course," Ace answered to Andrea, "say uh….you wouldn't mind if I have both of youse phone number would ya?"
Andrea and Hunter exchanged a glance with one another when he asked that question, but they didn't think too long for it. It was wonderful that her friend's, as Andrea liked to put it, 'soon-to-be-boyfriend' wanted to keep in touch with them. "You got it," Andrea said as she gave her phone number and Hunter's. "Hope we keep in touch."
Ace dialed their phone numbers in his contacts and saved them. Both him and Lexi bid their goodbyes to the two rabbits as they headed out the parking lot. "So," Lexi asked, "what did you need their phone numbers for?"
"Why not?" Ace smiled at her, "friends of yours are friends of mine." There was truth into those words, but he also wanted them for a whole other mission and one that didn't involve Lexi's eavesdropping skills.
I didn't want Lexi to hear. You know, super hearing skills. Her birthday is next Saturday and I wanted to invite you guys along. Haven't told the team anything but I'm planning that we meet at Club in Toons. Let me know if ya guys can make it.
~ Ace
He pressed send and secretly smiled to himself. He hoped that it was going to be a birthday that she would remember.
