I don't own Loonatics Unleashed

Enjoy!

The day that Ace shared his text with the group about Lexi's upcoming birthday party, Rev tried his hardest not to let the cat out of the bag. The number of times where Tech had to reach out and clamp his beak shut would have arisen suspicion out of everyone, but Lexi had been used with all their antics that she wasn't bothered anymore by what they boys were doing. Rev thought it was a genius idea for them to surprise Lexi. She was an important member of the team and to make her feel special was also a nice way for the team to show their appreciation towards her.

How the team was going to spilt was that Ace was going to make the reservations at Club in Toons, Tech was going to take care of the lighting when they bought out the cake, Slam, Miranda, and Duck were going do the decorations, while Rev was in charge of ordering and picking up the cake. And any of their significant others were more than welcome to come to the party, which was something that Rev was also looking forward to.

"So," Tech spoke up as he looked at the roadrunner that was sitting in front of him, "did you order the cake yet? The party is tomorrow."

Rev immediately facepalmed when Tech reminded him about the cake. He couldn't believe how careless he had been. It wasn't that he was always careless but out of all the things, it had to be with Lexi's surprise birthday. "Oh-no!-No-no-no-no-no-I-can't-believe-I-didn't-take-care-of-this-sooner."

"I told you if you wanted a reminder," Tech pointed out to him, "I could have put it on your phone but no, you said you'd remember."

Rev hid his head into his arms. He knew that Tech meant well by what he was saying, but it didn't forgive the fact that Rev had forgotten about his teammate.

"Hey guys," Lexi's voice suddenly came into the kitchen and a look of concern crossed over her features when she saw Rev resting his head on the table. "Are you okay, Rev?" she asked him.

"Mm-hmm," Rev's muffled voice came from the table.

Tech looked from the roadrunner and over to the rabbit. "He's still thinking about the chess round that we played…earlier today," Tech said with a shrug of his shoulders towards Lexi, "isn't that right Rev?"

"We-were-ow!" Rev yelped when Tech gave him a kick in the leg and he sent a glare to the coyote. "Yes-it's-true," he said to Lexi, trying to hide the pain that was rising up in his leg, "another-round-lost."

A light chuckle escaped Lexi's lips as she looked at her two teammates. "You guys need to stop taking chess so seriously." She turned on her heel and walked away from the kitchen.

Once she was out of sight, Rev rubbed the spot on his leg where he had been kicked. "First-of-all-ow!" he glared at Tech, "and-second,-Ace-told-me-that-I-need-to-order-a-week-in-advance-at-Lexi's-favorite-bakery."

"Then why didn't you?" Tech asked him. "Or were you too busy to make a telephone call?"

Rev blushed when Tech said that. He had been on the phone lately, just not with the bakery. "Wait!" he perked up as he looked at Tech. "Telephone-call-Tech-you're-a-genius."

Of course he was a genius, but in this case, what sort of epiphany did Rev have? It wasn't long until Tech realized what Rev meant. "You're going to Michelle aren't you?" he asked him.

"Yeah," Rev nodded his head to her, "she-has-a-bakery-and-I'm-sure-she'll-be-able-to-whip-something-up-fast!"

Tech looked down at his watch before looking up at Rev. "You may want to hurry up. Doesn't she close at eight?"

Rev was familiar with the hours that she worked, and if he wasted another minute, then there would be no cake for tomorrow. "I'll-be-back-in-a-bit!" he said to Tech as he headed out of HQ before Ace discovered that he hadn't finished his job.

'In a bit' depended on the context. In Rev time, it would either be a second or hours on end. Tech looked down at his watch as pressed a button on it, starting a timer for the moment that Rev had left and when he would return.

"No!" Rev yelled as he reached Crème de la Crème and saw Michelle about to change the sign from 'open' to 'closed.' "Don't-close-yet-let-me-in!" he said. The moment that Michelle opened the door, Rev headed inside.

Michelle was shocked to see Rev in such a frenzy. "What's-going-on?" she asked him.

Rev took a deep breath and let it out before he filled Michelle in on the story. "Lexi's-birthday-is-tomorrow-and-I-have-had-all-week-to-call-from-her-favroite-bakery-place-to-place-in-an-order-for-a-four-tiered-cake-but-I-didn't-get-to-it-and-they-don't-take-any-last-minute-orders.-What's-a-birthday-party-without-a-cake?-I-don't-want-to-let-her-Ace-or-anyone-else-down-and-I-was-wondering-would-you-help-me-out-on-this?" he clasped his hands together and looked at Michelle. "Please-please-please-please-please-don't-make-me-beg."

Michelle would point out that he was already begging in front of her. Even if she was closed for the day, that didn't mean that she would stop baking. Whenever she got home, she got busy in her kitchen and thought of new ideas on how to improve her desserts or try new recipes. "Alright-alright," Michelle said as she motioned for Rev to get back to his feet, "what-type-of-cake-does-she-like?"

"Carrot," Rev answered her.

Of course it would be carrot cake. Michelle never bothered in learning this recipe since it was not at all French. How hard could it be to make it? All she needed was cake batter and she could simply throw the carrots in there along with some nuts. "Let-me-see-if-I-can-find-the-recipe-somewhere." She headed to the back of the kitchen where she kept a bookshelf of recipe books. It would have been of a convenience for her to have everything digital but the idea of holding a book and looking through it was more appealing to her. She flipped through various pages in many of the books until her eyes fell on a recipe that was like what Rev was asking. She walked over to the front of the store with the book in her hands. "Well-what-do-you-know?" she said as she slammed the book on the table and pointed to it, "I-have-a-carrot-cake-recipe-in-a-French-cookbook...strangely."

Rev looked at the recipe and then at Michelle. "So-you-think-you'd-be-able-to-make-a-four-tiered-cake?"

"Four-tiered?!" Michelle exclaimed as she looked at Rev. "What-is-she-getting-married-on-her-birthday-or-something?"

"No!" Rev said, "it's-what-Ace-wanted-and-also-you've-seen-Slam.-The-guys-needs-to-eat-more-food-than-any-of-us."

Michelle remembered that Tasmanian devil and she had to admit, he was one of her favorite customers. Just order to food, food a huge quantity of it, and leave happy. Michelle looked up at the clock seeing that it was eighty twenty and the amount of time that it was going to take her to make a four-tiered cake to perfection, she was going to give herself about four hours to finish it, then the normal time it would take someone without her speed to make it. She looked over at Rev and motioned with her head. "Come-with-me."

Rev was taken off guard at her request but he went ahead and followed her. Michelle threw an apron in his direction as he instinctively caught it. "No-way-Michelle!" he shook his head at her, "I-don't-know-how-to-bake!"

"If-you-didn't-read-the-bakery-policy-no-last-minute-orders," Michelle said to him.

Rev rose an eyebrow at that. "And-where-does-it-say-it?" he asked her.

"After-tonight-I-will-make-sure-to-implement-it," Michelle said. She stuck her head in the fridge and pulled out a numerous number of bags that were filled with carrot. "You-have-more-speed-than-I-do," she said to him, "grate-these-guys."

Rev eyes widened at the number of carrots that were placed in front of him. "Grate-them-with-what?" he asked her.

Boys Michelle thought as she took out an old school grater and placed it in front of him. "With-this!"

"Don't-you-have-anything-more-advanced?" he asked her. They were in the twenty-eighth century; didn't they have any recent upgrades in kitchen appliances?

"The-more-you-complain-the-less-time-we-have-to-finish," Michelle said to him, "I-want-to-be-out-of-here-before-one-in-the-morning."

It was going to take that long to finish this? Rev knew that he was going to be tired the next morning he woke up. Keeping his beak shut, he kept a tight hold onto the grater and began to grate as many carrots as he could while Michelle prepared the rest of the ingredients. Rev lost count on how many carrots he grated but when he saw was a huge pile in front of him when he reached the last one. "Please…tell…me…this-is-all-I-needed-to-grate!" Rev exclaimed.

"Wow," Michelle said as she looked at the pile in front of them. Even though Rev had a faster pace than she did, it still took him under an hour to finish all the carrots. "Not-bad-for-a-roadrunner," she said, poking a bit of fun at him. "I'll get these mixed and then baked." She took a portion of the grated carrots and placed them in four bowls and began to mix them together. Once she got a good mixture, she poured the batter into different sized baking pans and placed them in the oven.

"How-long-is-it-going-to-take?" Rev asked her.

"Thirty-five minutes to an hour," Michelle answered him, "and two hours to three to cool down."

"You-know-that-they-make-appliances-that-cook-and-cool-things-quickly-right?" Rev asked her.

"You-know-that-was-out-of-my-budget-right?" Michelle asked him, "plus-I-don't-mind-all-these-retro-appliances.-French-baking-requires-patience."

"Not-when-it's-almost-nine-at-night," Rev reminded her.

"Then-we'll-make-time-fly-by-making-the-icing," Michelle said as she went ahead and grabbed the ingredients that she needed.

Rev watched as she placed blocks of cream cheese on the counter along with butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. "At-least-I-don't-have-to-grate-anything-this-time," he commented but he spoke to soon when Michelle gave him a handheld mixer. "Now-what?" he asked her.

"Mix-this-much-of-the-cream-cheese-butter-vanilla-and-powdered-sugar," Michelle instructed him. "I'll-take-care-of-the-others." She took out a stand-in mixer and another handheld mixer to cut down the time. "Come-on-or-we'll-be-here-forever!"

As Rev placed all the ingredients in one bowl, he turned the handheld mixer on high and all the ingredients flew everywhere in the kitchen. "How-do-you-turn-this-off?!" he yelled.

Michelle, who had been hit with the cream cheese, reached over, and shut off the handheld mixer. "Next-time…start-off-slowly," she told him.

"I-didn't-know," Rev protested, "I'm-new-at-this!" he was then hit by powdered sugar and he gave Michelle a glare. "Stop-that!"

"Just-mix," she said to him and following her instructions, Rev turned the handheld mixer on low and watched as all the ingredients came together to form the frosting.

After a while, the cakes finished baking in the oven and Michelle zipped over to the oven and pulled them out. Instead of letting them cool for hours at room temperature, she placed the cakes in a flash freezer and hoped that it wouldn't take them too long to cool down. She checked on it every half hour to ensure that it was cool enough to be frosted. Once the cake had reached a decent cooling temperature, she pulled out the cakes and adjusted them on top of each other as each tier was supported by bamboo sticks to keep it sturdy.

"Okay," Michelle said with a nod of her head, "time to frost it up!"

Rev watched as she quickly ran around the cake and painted it with the frosting. Not quite as quick as he was, but she was able to finish it before the icing would melt in front of them. However, Michelle was not finished yet. She decorated the edges of the cake with little carrot marzipans and green frosting and wrote 'Happy Birthday Lexi' in pink frosting on the top tier of the cake.

"Phew," Michelle said as she ran the back of her hand over her head and down her cheek, leaving a streak of icing on there. "What-do-you-think?" she asked Rev.

There was nothing to say of the work that they…mostly Michelle, since he helped just a little bit, put into the whole cake. "I-am-forever-grateful-for-you-doing-this," Rev said as he reached out and took a hold of her hands, "thank-you-so-much."

They had their little arguments throughout the baking process, but Michelle was grateful that Rev was able to stick around and help her out. She looked over at the clock and was happy that they had managed to finish just a little before midnight. "For-you-anytime," Michelle said to him. "Now-I-just-gotta-put-this-guy-in-the-fridge-for-tomorrow-and-you'll-be-all-set-to-pick-it-up-for-the-party."

"And-I-want-you-to-come," Rev said to her. "Ace-said-to-invite-anyone-for-the-party."

Michelle was touched that she was invited to a party that was meant for their team. She wondered how much the team knew about her, other than owning a bakery, but she was just as intrigued to learn more about them outside of their work as superheroes. "I-look-forward-to-it," she said to Rev, "now-hurry-along-get-some-sleep-before-tomorrow."

Rev walked up to her and gave her a tight hug. "You-too," Rev said to her and cleaned the frosting off her cheek with his thumb, "had-a-little-something-there-see-you-tomorrow-Michelle." Once he bid his goodbyes with her, he headed back to HQ and to his surprise, the lights were out, indicating that everyone had gone to bed.

Rev tiptoed towards his room, trying his best not to make any noise. He gasped when a single light turned in the hallway and saw Tech standing there with his pajamas. "Tech!" he exclaimed, "what-are-you-doing-up?"

"Timing you," Tech said as he held up his watch, "and you were gone for exactly four hours. Didn't think it was going to take you that long to put in an order."

"I-was-helping-out-Michelle," Rev said.

"I can tell," Tech said, "especially from the powdered sugar on you. And if you're wondering how I know, it doesn't have the fine texture like flour does."

Rev looked down at his outfit and dusted it off him. "Didn't-know-you-were-quite-the-baking-expert," the roadrunner said to him.

"Years of living in a college dorm would do that to you," Tech smirked. Other than having skills in what he studied, he also needed cooking skills to live on his own. "Now go to bed," he said to him, "we all have a big day tomorrow."

That was exactly what Rev was going to do. He felt an incoming yawn and with that, he headed into his room for perhaps a long rest before the festivities started.
