I don't own Loonatics Unleashed
Enjoy!
It had turned out to be quite the strange Saturday afternoon. Through a long week of extensive training, even though the team didn't face off with any villains that threatened to destroy Acmetropolis, Lexi Bunny thought that she would meet the rest of the team at the lounging area of HQ. When she arrived there, she was shocked to see that the place was empty. At first, she thought that the rest of her teammates were busy, but busy doing what? They had made it a ritual that they would all gather during the weekend and watch a movie that a member of the team had chosen. This time, it would have been Slam's turn and she was looking forward to another wrestling themed movie. She took her seat at one of the couches and propped her feet up on the table. It wouldn't hurt to be up to date with the latest Acmetropolis fashion trends. It seemed that sparkly outfits were back in fashion.
Down the hallway that led to the lounge area, Ace smirked when he saw Lexi sitting at the couches. The rest of the team had gathered at Club in Toons and were doing the last-minute preparations before he arrived with Lexi. Now all he needed to do was to have her dress into something more fun and casual…and he had the perfect plan for it. "Lexi, Lexi, Lexi," he walked up to her with a shake of his head, "what are you doin' sitting here on a Saturday afternoon?"
"Hey, I'm here at this time every Saturday," she looked up at Ace with a playful smile, "you guys are the ones who are late."
Ah yes, a team building exercise where they would all gather around the television and watch a film. Ace didn't know how effective this was, considering that Duck complained about the movies half the time. "Change of plans," Ace said, "we ain't spending the afternoon sitting around here. We're going out."
No matter how much Lexi loved to go out with Ace, this had come as a surprise to her. She rose an eyebrow as she turned her attention to Ace. "But…we didn't plan anything," she said to him. "Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go out with you but what if Zadavia reaches out to us."
"She knows where to reach us," Ace said as he pointed to the telecommunicator on his wrist. "Besides, she's been getting a bit lenient with us lately. Now come on, I have reserved the perfect place for us."
Lexi shut her magazine and got up from the couch. "Oh yeah?" she asked him, "and what place would that be?"
"Why don't you get yourself dolled up and find out?" Ace suggested to her. He thought he saw a glare in her eyes when he said 'dolled up' but let out a sigh of relief when it was just a delightful twinkle in her eyes. Looks like she had gotten used to that term and didn't mind it when he used it, especially since they were now going steady with one another. The moment Lexi disappeared in her bedroom, Ace hurried into his room and got ready. This time, he was going to dress into an outfit that would not only leave Lexi speechless, but also his team and this didn't include some cowboy hat that he wore last time. Black was a classic color and he was glad that he had one in his closet.
Just like last time, Lexi tried to perfect her makeup as much as she could. She had slipped into a pink bodycon dress that was decorated with pink flowers at the border of the neckline and there was nothing better than a pair of nude shoes. "Okay Ace," Lexi said as she got out of her bedroom and into the hallway, "I'm…ready…" She felt a blush creeping up her cheeks when she took in Ace's outfit. He wore a black fit dress shirt with a pair of light brown pants and black shoes. "Wow," she said as she recovered from her light shock and looked at him up and down in approval. "You really upgraded from the cowboy hat."
"Just tryin' my best here," Ace said to her, knowing really well that he didn't have any proficiency in the fashion department.
Lexi slowly approached him and fixed his collar that was lifted in a fashion that made Ace look more like a villain than a hero. "There we go," she said to him, followed by a sweet smile. "Now you're looking like the hero that you are."
"Shucks," Ace playfully said. Taking one last look at the clock, he guided Lexi out the door and into the streets of Acmetropolis for her surprise.
Duck checked the club room one last time, ensuring that everything was perfect. Other than the wolf that Tech had invited and the roadrunner, which Duck hoped he would never run into again, his teammates found it odd that he would take care into something that didn't involve himself as the subject of attention. Even though he and Lexi had their share of fights, he cared about his teammate. "Everything good on your end you three?" he asked Slam, Miranda, and Tech who collaborated in finishing the decorations and setting up the proper lighting when Lexi was bought to the door.
"Good!" Slam exclaimed and held a thumbs up at the duck.
Duck gave him a nod of his head. "Now all we gotta do is wait for them to get here." He looked down at his watch and hoped that Ace would be prompt with the timing. "Any sign of them Rev?" he talked into his telecommunicator.
Rev was keeping a bird's-eye-view from the roof of the club. He had kept himself in a safe distance so Lexi wouldn't be able to spot him. "Nothing-nada-zip-zero-none-wait!" Rev exclaimed as he got a better view when he noticed someone with a pink outfit walked towards the club. "They're-coming!"
"Then get down here!" Duck ordered and found Rev right next to him the moment he said it. "Everyone hide!"
The rest of the Loonatics, along with the two guests, hid under the tables where there wasn't any room for Duck to hide. Duck tried to find another furniture that he could hide in but the moment he heard Ace's voice coming closer to the room, he teleported out of the room.
"Now why is it so dark in here?" Lexi asked when she noticed the dark room that Ace had led her to.
Upon the signal, Tech turned out the lights and everyone jumped out of their hiding spots. "SURPRISE!" they yelled.
"SURPRISE!" Duck exclaimed and teleported right next to Ace and Lexi.
As her teammates had yelled, that was exactly the way that Lexi was feeling. She felt a sting in her eyes and clasped her hands together. "Oh my God," she smiled at her teammates, "I can't believe you guys did this."
"It was all Ace's idea," Tech said to her, "and we all wanted to pitch in."
Lexi turned her eyes towards Ace and before he knew it, she threw her arms around his neck and gave him a tight hug.
"And-we-just-wanted-to-show-how-much-you-mean-to-us," Rev added.
She had already felt those tears in her eyes and she didn't want to feel them again. After letting go of Ace, she proceeded to her other teammates and gave them a warm and appreciative hug. "Andrea, Hunter," she said as she hugged both of her dear friends as tightly as she could. Seeing them here was a great treat. Now she knew why Ace had been acting a bit suspicious after their drive-in movie date was over. "Michelle," Lexi smiled to the female roadrunner, "thank you for coming. It's good to see you again." The only one left was Amber and she looked at her with a smile. "I don't think we've met."
Tech walked up next to Amber and introduced her. "This is Amber," Tech said, "we met a couple of weeks ago at…" he hesitated for a moment and decided not the give the location of where he had met her. Why ruin a happy afternoon with something tragic?
"By the Acmetropolis plaza hotel," Amber jumped in as she took a hold of Lexi's hand and gave it a shake, "nice to meet you."
"My pleasure," Lexi said, "and thank you for coming."
"I wouldn't want to miss meeting a few of Tech's friends," Amber smiled to Lexi before she turned her eyes towards Tech. "Your friends are divine."
Well some of them are Tech thought and with the pleasantries out of the way, the team gathered with one another and enjoyed the afternoon with some appetizers that were prepared for them along with light cocktails.
As the afternoon came to an end, the nightlife began to take over the club as the music became louder and people yelled and hooted to the music that was playing. "Meet me out on the dance floor, Skipper," Lexi said as she got up from her seat and headed over to a Andrea and Hunter that were dancing with one another.
Perhaps he could add in a couple of moves to make it look like he was dancing…and make sure that no one else got close to Lexi. "Wait for me," he said to her as he disappeared into the crowd of people.
Hunter and Andrea looked up when Lexi and Ace decided to join them. "Now that's what I'm talkin' about!" Hunter hooted as they began to dance to the beat of the music.
"It's-not-quite-like-jazz-but-I-want-to-move-to-the-beat!" Rev said as he got up from the table, "you-in!"
"You-don't-need-to-ask-me-twice!" Michelle said as Rev grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into the dancefloor.
Amber rested against her seat and looked at the people that were dancing. She made a face at the way that they danced and couldn't help but shake her head. There was no such thing as decency in places like this anymore.
"Not your style?" Tech asked her.
"No," Amber answered and shook her head, taking a sip of her cocktail, "but at least your friend is having fun over there." She smiled as she looked at Slam who was dancing solo, showing off whatever moves he had to a group of people that had gathered around and were cheering for him.
A little further from Slam, Miranda and Duck were having a great time dancing with one another. It had been quite the long time when they last danced like this and they were enjoying every moment of it. As Miranda was about to sashay towards Duck, she was caught off guard when someone familiar to her stood right between her and Duck.
"H-Hey!" Duck yelled as he craned his neck to look at the guy that had just gotten between him and Miranda.
This wasn't just any guy. It was another mallard, a bit taller than Duck was, and he had a smile upon his beak when he looked at Miranda. "It's a small world after all!" he said, "how have you been Mira?"
Miranda blinked at the familiar nickname. It had been so long ever since she had heard of it and she couldn't believe that he was here. "Dan?" she asked as a smile appeared on her beak, "oh my God, it's been so long!" she exclaimed as she jumped in his arms and gave him a hug.
What the?! Duck thought as he looked at the scene that was unfolding in front of him. Who was this Dan guy and why was Miranda holding onto him as if he was the last thing in Acmetropolis.
Daniel set her feet back to the ground. "The last I saw of you, you left and joined dance."
Miranda gave him a shrug of her shoulder, "I wanted to follow my dream."
"And then I come here and hear that you're a superhero," Daniel said as he looked at her up and down, taking in the black dress that she wore with the heels. "And a hot one at that."
That was it! "Hey buddy!" Duck jumped in, "she's with me!"
Daniel looked at Duck, taking in the fact that he was quite shorter than he was. "Oh," Daniel simply said, "I didn't know you were with someone Mira."
How could he not have seen that she was dancing with Duck? Was he invisible to everyone? "That's fine," Duck heard Miranda say, "this is Duck, my fiancé."
"Fiancé, wow," Daniel said, "quite the lucky fella aren't you?" he said good-naturedly and gently elbowed Duck. When Duck didn't respond, it was enough to Daniel to get the message. "It's good to see Mira," he said to Miranda with a smile upon his beak, "and congratulations. I'd have settled down myself but, you know me."
Miranda chuckled. "Yes, you're quite the charmer with the ladies."
And it was a title that he didn't mind having. "See you later sweets," he said to her and made his way into the crowd of people.
Some things just never changed. With a shake of her head, Miranda turned her attention back to Duck and noticed the scowl that he had on his face. "What's wrong?" she asked him.
"Mira? Dan? Sweets?" Duck said, "what was all of that about? Who was he? A boyfriend?"
That was pure jealousy that was coming out of him and it was something that Miranda didn't like. She hoped that Duck was able to hear himself before he continued to flap his beak at something that she believed didn't pertain to him. "He's just a friend," Miranda answered him.
"Yeah, he really looked like a friend," Duck said to her.
"Which is true," Miranda said to him, "don't tell me that you didn't have your share of girlfriends before?"
Duck held his index finger in the air as he was about to gloat of the numerous amounts of girls that he had and the hearts that he broke, even though that wasn't entirely true. "I did…and that isn't any of your business."
"Then neither is my past any of yours," Miranda folded her arms across her chest.
How were they going to have a future together if none of them were comfortable with each other's past. Miranda had been there for Duck when he had been to her about his past and he had done with same when she had told him about hers. However, there were just somethings that were not meant to be shared…especially ones that involved old flames.
Duck could feel his nerves beginning to tick. He didn't want to yell at Miranda, but the thought of losing her to some other duck even if nothing happened between them, he just couldn't deal with it. Without saying a word to her, he turned on his heel and walked out of the club.
He was being completely childish. Miranda watched his figure disappear within the crowd until she couldn't see him anymore. Perhaps walking away from the situation was best for both. It was not worth to ruin Lexi's birthday with their attitudes. She turned around and noticed that Slam was continuing with his solo dancing and she hoped that he wouldn't mind if she went ahead and joined him.
