Chapter 12

Tuesday, October 11, 2022

"That weird thing inside is the element, first of all, try to focus on a specific point..." Minori-sensei explain to us the functioning of the orb that we hold in our hands.

Our class is sitting in the gym with an orb in our hands. Inside the orb is a strange black liquid and when I focus my energy inside, the liquid gathers in the center.

"Wow this is crazy! The element is coming together!" Inaho looks at me with eyes full of admiration.

"Huge! Plus seeing your magic circuits light up is really cool!" Usui is also impressed.

"Yeah, but when I stop focusing, it goes back to normal." I said as I released my concentration, seeing the black liquid dispersing into the orb. "That crystal ball, I've seen it somewhere before."

"It was the president who gave it to us to congratulate us on the survey, remember?" Explains Uruchi in front of us, still with a band-aid on her cheek.

"Oh yeah..."

"By the way, the girl responsible for the trouble, what did we do with her?" Usui asks.

"Ah that, she apologized by kneeling as well."

I remember, just before we reported and brought Amio to the student council, she woke up and excused herself, forehead to the ground. "I'm sorry! I'll make it up to you one day!"

"She didn't do all of this willingly, but she was still suspended." I explain.

"Hmmm... Does she really not remember anything?" Usui pondered.

"Yes" Uruchi answers. "Aki-sensei and the others have confirmed it! It looks like..."

"Hey!" Minori surprises us, tapping the back of our heads with a rolled up newspaper. "What do you think you're doing here? You're talking during my class!" Then she bends down to see what I am doing. "Oh? Not bad Senji! I wouldn't expect anything less from you!" Then she straightens up and holds her newspaper close to my face. "Only it's useless if you don't know the purpose of this training!"

"Um, yeah."

"I guess there's nothing we can do about it, I'll give a demonstration!" She turns around suddenly. "Kurigasa!" She calls out to the guy who fought Azuki a few weeks ago.

"Yes!" He replies, taken by surprise.

"Stand in front of me and get ready!"

Minori-sensei and Kurigasa are facing each other, ready to fight.

"Are all the first years there? Everyone pay attention!" Minori-sensei gets everyone's attention.

"Is she serious?" Kurigasa panics. "My body will be as hard as steel if I use my power, so if she hits me, she'll break her hand!"

"Children should not worry about adults! You better be ready!" Minori-sensei announced. "You'll get hurt if you don't! Start with your feet and then your waist! Then you concentrate your element in your fists! Imagine it spreading throughout your body! If you do it correctly, then even without maken..."

Minori jumps forward, leaving an afterimage behind her. She hits Kurigasa with such force that he backs away until he hits the wall behind him.

"Ooof!"

"Ha... Oops."

The students on the trajectory of Kurigasa dodge just barely.

"Uwaaaaa!"

"Ah... Dang... and that's how you do it! hehehe!" She turns to me, saying this in an innocent way.

"You went super hard! But what a freak this one is!" I say as I get up.

"Senji-sama..." I hear Inaho's voice below me, having protected her with my body.

"Ah sorry... are you okay?"

"Yes! Senji-sama is really a good person, just like daddy and Uncle Takeshi!" she said with a smile.

Upon hearing his name, my body stops, my brain freezes. All of a sudden, a feeling of disgust invades me.

"What?"

"Ah..." Inaho seems surprised by my reaction.

"Why... Why do you respect him so much?" I don't recognize myself anymore, caught up in emotions I didn't want to relive, making me nauseous. "You knew my name when I came to Kuoh, don't tell me my uncle..."

"I'm sorry... but I can't tell you anything right now..." Inaho prefers to remain silent.

She lowers her gaze, avoiding confronting mine. I stand up, becoming just as silent, a look of despise appears on my face. I leave the class under Minori-sensei's call, I leave the school, knowing full well that I would be unable to follow the remaining classes.

Later in the evening, I decide to go home, having calmed down.

"I'm home."

When we enter the house, everyone is at the entrance, even Azuki has invited herself. They all observe with love a white cat on Kodama's lap.

When they hear me coming, the girls tense up, especially Azuki and Haruko. But still not being in the mood, I pass between them and go to the shed.

"Haru-nee, don't wait for me to eat, I have work to do in the shed."

"Eh? It's... What's with the manners?" Haruko turns around, watching me leave. "Don't you think he's weird Inaho?"

But Inaho doesn't answer, she has her head down, holding her hands to her chest, as if she is blaming herself for something.

"Inaho-chan?" Haruko doesn't understand. "Huh, the hairpin she always has is not..."

In the bathroom, Haruko washes Inaho's back which explains Senji's abnormal mood.

"I understand now..." said Haruko.

"Yes, I had heard that Senji-sama and his uncle... did not get along well but..."

"Indeed, ten years ago at that time, on that day, a man came to his family dojo to duel." Haruko explains, stroking Inaho's hair. "Meanwhile, his uncle was outside, so his aunt took his place by pretending to be the dojo master. The man in question was really strong. And even though his aunt was getting beaten to a pulp, she wasn't giving up. His uncle came back while they were fighting. His aunt insisted so he didn't stop the fight. Senji-chan didn't understand why his uncle stood by and watched. The man left without saying a word after beating his mother. She had reached her limit and was carried away by the disease... The doctor had said that the injuries had nothing to do with the death but... Senji-chan didn't see it that way, and blamed everything on his uncle. And one day when he was only 10 years old, he disappeared, leaving nothing behind..."

"So that's how it happened..." Inaho comments, with much sadness in her voice.

"But that still doesn't explain the fact that he's so cold... maybe I should give him a good lesson!" Haruko exclaims.

"Hawaa!? Especially not!" Inaho turns around. "I'm the one to blame."

In the shed, sitting on a tablecloth on the floor, with some tools, I try to repair an old heater. For a while, I manage to calm my negative thoughts. But when I blink my eyes, I see everything again. The beating to death of my aunt, my uncle standing still in front of it. And especially the look he gave me every day, the kind of look you give a monster. It enraged me, at that time, I was just an empty shell of emotions, having already seen too much. But this guy was the last straw, and today, when I see it all again, my body shakes with rage, as if to take revenge. And in my madness, I break the heater and the tool I was using.

I suddenly calm down, as if a bucket of cold water had been thrown at me. Catching my breath, I lie down, overwhelmed with anxiety.

"What the hell is happening to me."

Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

A torrent of rain falls on Fuyuki, which can be heard in the classrooms, giving a strange atmosphere.

"Haaa! classes end early today, but it's been raining for three days..." Said Usui, looking out the window, then he turned his gaze to the table next to him. "And then these two..."

"Senji-sama..." Inaho shyly approaches me, as I begin to put my things away." Would you like to eat together? You forgot your lunch so Haruko-senpai told me to bring it to you!" She said with a smile.

I can't see her smile, the same smile as yesterday. I still can't calm down. I stand up, avoiding contact.

"I'm sorry but I'm eating at the canteen today, you can leave me alone." I reply curtly.

Her look changes from a touch of hope that things will return to normal, to a blank look. She lowers her head and then runs away. I don't even look at her leaving, finishing putting my things away.

"Wait!" Usui puts his hand on my shoulder, as if to stop me from leaving. "What's your problem?"

"Hmm..." I pretend to listen to him.

"Hey I'm talking about Inaho-chan! While she kindly invited you to lunch... since you left class yesterday, you've been acting very weird!"

"Tss..." I raise my head, looking him straight in the eye, he backs away slightly, but I don't care. "Mind your own business."

I walk out of the classroom, hearing Usui grumble. I head towards the canteen, but when I get there, I see that there are too many people.

(Well, I'll just buy a snack in town, I have plenty of time).

Turning around, passing by a sheltered path, I see Usui in front of me, holding a sandwich. Looking closer, he hands it to me.

"Thanks, but you can keep it, I'll buy one elsewhere." I say passing by him.

"Oh no" He drops the sandwich. "You're not going anywhere!" He grabs me, with a judo grip, then tosses me into the rain, falling to the soaked ground.

"What?!" I quickly stand up. "What the hell are you doing!?"

"Stop acting like you don't know!" Usui charges towards me, fist raised, ready to punch my face.

But his blow is too predictable, I dodge without worry and trip him, making him fall in turn.

"Damn it," Usui stands up, resuming a fighting pose. "You still don't get it?"

"What're you talking about?"

"You are the only one at fault here!" Usui screams at the top of his lungs, to be heard under this rain whipping our bodies. "I don't know what happened between you, but I know that because of you a sincere and honest girl cried! You were determined when you said you wanted to protect everyone but what you just did was the exact opposite!"

I see them all, all the people I knew, dead, looking at me, as if I was the only one at fault.

"Maybe I'm just a hopeless case who loves to chase... girls..." Talking is becoming more and more difficult. "But what you just did disgusts me!"

He pauses, catching his breath, then raises his fists at me.

"Face me! If you win I'll do what you want, but if you don't you'll have to apologize to her! And on your knees!" Usui challenges me.

"Again, what are you meddling with, you don't know what you are talking about, but indeed, everything is my fault, everything. That's why I don't want to..."

"What?! You're telling me you won't apologize!?" Usui charges towards me, seized with anger.

Again, his move is predictable. I don't move, waiting for the last moment, then with one blow, strike directly in the stomach.

"Guho!" I hear Usui's groan of pain, his head resting on my shoulder. "Bouff... Cough... Ha... Ha..."

"You misunderstand Usui."

"Huh?"

"It's just... I want to apologize with a clear mind."

"Hmph!" Usui push me, embarrassed by the situation. "Don't whisper in my ear! It feels a little weird!" He says holding his stomach.

Then he throws me the sandwich from earlier.

"If that's what you've decided, then you better hurry up, idiot!"

"Yeah. I'll go, I'll pay you back tomorrow." I say as I walk away.

Usui remains still, then writhes in pain.

"That bastard... He used his magic circuits to strengthen his move!" Then a bolt of genius shot through him. "Ah yes! Maybe Aki-sensei can take a look at it!"

I run across the whole campus, trying to find Inaho, but instead I find Haruko under her umbrella, shouting for someone, but I can't hear anything, the sound of the rain being too loud.

"Haru-nee!"

"Ah Senji-chan!" Haruko notices me. "It's an emergency! uh... What happened to you?" She asks me.

Oh yes, since I fell head first earlier, I must have some scratches on my face.

"Never mind, what's going on?"

"Ha... The cat! The cat is gone! I looked all over the house but the way it's raining it's going to be... everyone is looking for it!"

"Ok I get it I'm getting into it too, let's keep in touch!" I said as I resumed my run.

While some meter separates us, I am not able to hear Haruko anymore, the rain intensified.

"Hell, maybe with this I could find Inaho too."

As I run through the streets surrounding my house, I see the cat in the distance heading towards the forest.

"Oooh!? Wait!"

I run after him, but the cat is much faster than me. I have to strengthen my body to keep up.

We enter the forest, following him is more difficult, but I maintain the pace.

(Why the forest? It's complicated enough with the weather!)

"Precisely, the feline must be disoriented with this violent rain, the forest is more suitable to find shelter." Explains Ddraig.

I finally see him stop at the end of his strength, I jump over the bushes and land on a small clearing, bordering one of the many cliffs of Fuyuki. The problem is that, under the violence of the storm, the cliff falls in pieces and one of the rocks goes straight on the cat.

(You have to be kidding! I would never have time to load my circuits in time!)

Suddenly, Minori's words echo in my head... 'Focus on the element, imagine it spreading!'

The rest is done as naturally as possible, instead of forcing my magic circuits, I feel the energy flowing throughout my body, all my magic circuits are on alert. I leap up, at a speed I never thought I would be able to do, and catch the cat, the rock falling behind us.

I take a break, not realizing myself what I just did.

"Haa," I gasp, suddenly feeling the cold of the rain, after my body has warmed up just a bit. "You need to be more considerate in the future!"

"Meow!"

I sit down, taking the cat in my arms, he lets himself go, looking for warmth.

"Everyone is worried..."

"Meow..."

*Crack*

"Huh?"

I watch the cliff break above me, and a part falls on us. I get up as fast as I can, but, my body is too cold to react fast enough.

"Not... Good..."

"Senji-sama!" I hear the scream of a familiar voice.

I turn to her, it's Inaho, jumping from a tree to the huge rock falling on us.

"Maken Kamudo!"

She makes appear the gauntlet, the jewel in the center lights up, and at the level of the elbow, energy ejects itself projecting Inaho even more quickly.

"Hiken!"

When she strikes with all her strength, the rock explodes into a thousand pieces. She lands near us and deflects all the pieces with the gauntlet

"Ha...hah...ah" Inaho is out of breath. She turns to us. "Thank you... Senji-sama!"

'Thank you... Senji-kun!' Next to the teenage Inaho, I see a little Inaho appear, a fragment of memory hits me.

(Ah...)

"For protecting... the cat..." She can't finish her sentence, dropping down exhausted.

I release the cat and catch her just in time.

I put her on my back, the cat on my head and call Haruko to assure everyone. Then I go towards the house, soaked to the bone, still under this driving rain.

After a few minutes, I feel that Inaho comes to her senses, she shakes a little and moans.

"Hmmm... Sen...Senji-sama! What are you doing..."

"Ah..." (Having her lay on my back and hold her by her thighs must be embarrassing for her.) "Are you sitting uncomfortably?" I ask.

"No, it's not that... it's comfortable..."

"Say Inaho, do you... Do you know..."

"Hmmm, Haruko-sama explained to me, but not in detail, so... Senji-sama, what happened? What happened to you all these years?"

I remain silent for a few seconds, not knowing what to say.

"I... can't tell you anything right now, because I don't feel close myself to talking about it yet."

"I see... so I'll wait!"

"And sorry Inaho, for yesterday and for today. I don't trust my uncle yet, but I trust you. Do you forgive me?"

"Yes! Of course!"

"Meow!"

"Ah the rain has stopped!"

In front of the house, I release Inaho, recovered from her tiredness, we wring out the most water possible of our clothes, before entering.

"Oh, the door is open, we're here!" I announce as we enter.

The two people who receive us are Kodama and Haruko, who are in sexy lingerie.

"Ha ha ha! Rejoice Senji! Just for today, your eyes are allowed to wander anywhere so bring it on!" Kodama strikes a pose.

"Why do I have to do this?" Haruko is completely embarrassed.

"Choose your reward!" Kodama ignores Haruko.

A silence settles, not knowing how to react, then Inaho bursts out laughing. I let out a slight sigh, feeling all the tension from today go away.

"It seems to be having the desired effect!" Kodama looks proud of herself.

"It's not funny, we look like complete idiots!" Haruko continues to complain, and rightly so.

"Mew"

"Ah, I forgot, you're free now!" Said Inaho as she picked up the cat.

But the cat insists and jumps on the shoulder of Inaho and settles down.

"It looks like he likes you!" said Kodama.

"Yeah!" Haruko asserts.

"Either way, being with the person you love is like being free!" Kodama says with a hint of nostalgia.

"Tehehehe... Welcome to our home Monji!" said Inaho as she stroked Monji's head.

"Meow!"

"Monji?" Kodama repeats.

"It's for the cross he has on his forehead!" Inaho replies.

"You didn't look far!" said Kodama mockingly.

Friday, October 14, 2022

In the hallway as I leave class, I can see Fuji-nee's head sticking out of her classroom, she seems to be looking for someone. When our eyes meet, a smile appears and she waves her hand, sign for me to come and see her.

"Ah here you are, come I'll hold you for a minute." She said to me, going into her classroom.

"What is it?"

"It's Dad, he wants to see you, he wants to ask you a favor."

"Your old man? And a favor? I hope it has nothing to do with the Yakuza..."

"Oh no, nothing like that, it's pretty simple, he even told me that it won't change anything in truth but I don't know any more. So stop by the house before you go home okay?"

"Okay..." I sigh. "I owe him that much after all."

"Thanks Senji, go ahead I won't keep you any longer, see you!"

I walk out of the room, and let out a big sigh.

(Maybe it was too much to ask to never see the old man of Fuji-nee again, he freaks me out.)

In front of the family mansion in Fuji-nee, I can't help but feel anxious. Already their mansion is huge, it is much too extravagant. And above all, the Fujimura family is the head of many Yakuza clans.

As I was about to ring the bell, a maid approached and opened the gate, knowing I was coming.

"Good evening Mr. Emiya, Fujimura Raiga is waiting for you. Please follow me."

"Sure thing, after you."

Luckily she is there to guide me, or I would have gotten lost. This place is a real labyrinth. No wonder, with all the shenanigans they have to do here. We pass in front of many rooms and especially in front of many guards. They all nod to me, a respectful greeting. Being the little brother of Fuji-nee, I must be a VIP guest.

Then the maid stops in front of a door. It is elaborately decorated, an eight-headed dragon is carved in the wood.

"Mr. Fujimura, Senji Emiya is here."

"Ah very well, let him in."

The maid turns and nods, letting me into the room.

Surprisingly, it is a very normal room, except for the fact that it is huge, especially on the length, with a long low table and dozens of cushions.

"Good evening Senji, excuse me for calling you so late, but I need a small favor."

Mr. Fujimura is at the end of the table, surrounded by two maids and some guards. One of the servants comes forward and serves two glasses, then Mr. Fujimura, indicates with his hand one of the cushions. I don't make me beg, I go there and sit next to him.

"Good evening Mr. Fujimura, there is no problem. So, what is the request?" I say while taking the glass tended by the servant and drink it of a blow.

"Straight to the point eh? I like it." He gives me a picture.

"I recognize her, she's the girl I ran into one night while it was snowing."

"Ah, that's good it makes it easier. I'd like you to 'take care' of her."

"Um, how so?"

"More specifically that you watch her. I don't have any power in your school, she can be targeted by other families, so someone needs to be with her."

"Wait a minute, can you explain who she is? Because right now I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh yes of course. This girl is part of a family of demon hunters, and an external member of the Yakuzas. Normally, children from these special families don't go to school, but stay home and take special classes."

"Hmmm, well they're special kids okay, but then again, why the change?"

"Well this family is not hard up against some small change, and sending their heiress to a school like yours is even rewarding. But they asked me to find someone to watch her. So don't worry, you won't have to stay on her case 24/7. Just make sure everything is going well for her."

I think for a few seconds, looking at the picture, intrigued by her look that seems at first empty, but in truth seems to hide something.

"Okay, no problem. You can tell this family that you found a person, by the way what's her name?"

"Oh but you'll ask her, she's not supposed to know about having you as a babysitter, right?"

"It doesn't look legit to me for her that story."

"Maybe, but it's their child, therefore their rule. Can you follow that?"

"Okay, I'll be her new friend, no problem."

"Ahh thank you Senji, you take a thorn out of my side. Well, I'll let you go home, it's getting late. Oh and thanks for looking after my daughter."

"Oh you know, we help each other out on that level. Have a great night."

"Good night to you too. Gentlemen, please escort our young man."

Two very muscular guys approach and escort me gently towards the exit, but still in silence.

As I head for the exit, taking another route, I imagine to keep the layout of the mansion secret, an intrusive thought creeps in.

(What I'm going to get myself into...)

Hi everyone, thanks for reading this chapter. So, I usually don't look at the stats too much but before I take a break, I thought why not and really it's ok? I really don't know, but thanks to the 5 people who follow the story and to those who just come and read and leave. Well, thanks are not really my thing, but it's really cool of you, and I hope you will continue to enjoy the series. Because here we are still in the introduction. I'm not going to say too much more, but the next chapter is very important for me, I'm going to adapt a story that I love, with a character that I love, in short, I hope to do it with honor and above all with respect, as I'm trying to do since the beginning. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them. So, as said in the previous chapter, I'm taking a short break, so no chapter next week. So see you on June 5th.
Thanks again for following Fate DxD.
