Among those aware of its existence, Konoha, an organisation, specializing in espionage, is renowned as being the greatest of its kind. Its level of secrecy was such that only a handful of high- ranking politicians- and other special ranked individuals were aware of its existence. The organization's policy involved recruiting individuals, both men and women, who had no families or external ties. While some members willingly chose not to have such connections, other simply never had it due to destiny. The absence of a family bond greatly facilitated the maintenance of secrets, as no explanations were needed for their constant absence or the true nature of their work. However, it is inherent in human nature to form bonds, whether purposefully sought or not…
The organization recruited individuals who possessed competence in certain professions, such as mercenaries, marines, or similar occupations. The primary objective of the organisation was to recruit talented individuals who were ambitious and determined to accomplish their missions. One condition existed that was non-negotiable for those who joined the organisation: They'd have to agree to undergo experiments without being aware of the potential consequences they'd carry. Many of the recruits had experienced significant physical trauma at some point of their lives, which pushed them to accept the experimental tests out of desperation. The experiments were based on genetherapy, aiming to optimise the agents' abilities and strength while also attempting to recover whatever had been taken from them due to the previous trauma. If the experiments proved successful, then the agents would be presented with a rare opportunity to work for the esteemed Konoha Organization. The organisation offered exceptional compensation and ensured comprehensive benefits, including healthcare, retirement plans, paid vacation, and everything any one would ever need to live in comfort for the remaining days of their life. For those who possessed an extrovert- and adventurous spirit, the thrilling experience that awaited them as agents would likely be enough to entice them to join.
Should the experiments fail, the agent would still receive another form of significant compensation, in cash, that would ensure they'd be taken care of for the remainder of their lives.
Naruto, now nearing 34 years of age, have been a secret agent in the Konoha Organization for the past 7 years of his life. Before that, he used to be a gifted soldier who had a great potential to become someone exceptional within his field. He was very well liked by his superiors, which is why they thought it to be a real shame, when Naruto and his equally- if not even more talented brother in arm, Sasuke, had found themselves in the middle of an explosion during a surprise attach that had occurred during a routine patrol and lost the possibility to continue to work with the troops. The attack had taken one arm from each one of them, and one of Sasuke's eyes...
A highly ranked agent from the Organization, Kakashi, had studied their case and believed they could be a beneficial addition to the team. He decided to pay them a visit in the hospital, the second week of their recovery, to convince them to participate in the experiments. After all, they fit all the requirements; orphans, no other family ties, former soldiers, competent...and now hurt and possibly desperate. Furthermore, Kakashi had a hunch that they would one day achieve something unique, and his hunches were always on point.
While seated in the headquarters, Naruto indulged in a vanilla doughnut, and reminisced about the time, or the day, when Kakashi had made his initial visit to him and Sasuke at the hospital.
7 years prior…
"There are no obligations for you to do this. I'm offering you a chance to surpass the tragedy that has transpired, for both of you, to come out of it better. As I've already explained, the experiments will be jarring, you might not even be able to endure them. We cannot guarantee the results, or lack of harmful side effects, or worse consequences while participatingg. Whether they succeed or not, I, however, guarantee that we will take care of you for the rest of your lives. Should they succeed, however, your lives will never be the same again, for the better…Remember, accepting means your disappearance from the life and the world as you know it."
Kakashi was met with absolute silence and a shocked expression from the men, but he paid no mind to it as experience taught him to expect this kind of reaction.
"I will be back to collect your answer in a few days' time."
Naruto had an ominous feeling about this ordeal, while equally being very intrigued. He and Sasuke, who he considered to be as a brother, had not uttered a word since Kakashi's departure. They found themselves unable to break free from the thousands of thoughts that rummaged through their minds as they tried to make a decision…. One of them had been more serious about considering it than the other at the time. Naruto was the hesitant one, he feared for his- and naturally, for his friend's safety. A high probability that experiments would result to their own deaths existed and that was something Naruto simply could not disregard… Lost in his trail of thought, he failed to pick up what that Sasuke had been trying to communicate with him.
"Loser, did you hear me?"
"Huh, what did you say?"
"I will do it. I will go through with the experiments"
"Sasuke, now- wait, hold up, we need to think about this!", Naruto urged and began to panic as Sasuke's word rang through his ears.
"What is there to think about? I have nothing to run back to." Sasuke countered.
"Does that mean that we should run to this then? I've always wanted to do something more out of my life, but at what cost Sasuke? Besides…" Naruto continued, but was interrupted.
"Naruto, look at us, we'll never be allowed back into the army or anything alike. What the fuck I'm I supposed to do now, huh, become a doctor? ".
"I don't know, but we'll figure it out."
"Naruto, I've made up my mind already".
Naruto realised the signs of determination in Sasuke's eye, and understood then, that it was futile to argue any further with him. Although Naruto wasn't as convinced, he knew one thing, which was, he was not going to let Sasuke go through the experiments alone.
"Damn it! Fine, I'll do it too" Naruto cursed while palming his face with the only hand he had left.
"Hnn. I knew you'd follow me", Sasuke smirked back at his friend.
"Bastard" Naruto chuckled, "If anything happens to me, I'll make sure my ghost haunts you for all eternity".
Kakashi gave the pair three nights to think upon the offer and went back to visit the them thereafter. He was extremely pleased to receive their acceptance, and sealed the deal by signing a non-disclosure agreement where the specifics had been determined. It was explained that their existence would disappear from the face of the earth after the finalisation of the agreement.
After signing the agreement which included the pledging of their loyalty to the organization, Kakashi had begun to disclose the true nature of its activities and purpose. Sasuke and Naruto had heard of the existence of such an organization, but like anyone else, dismissed them as pure rumours and laughed them off.
Once Kakashi had left, they had both exchanged smiles, but beneath the surface, a sense of fear began to take hold, gradually intensifying.
What had they actually agreed to?
Two years had passed since the enrolment to the experiments, and the organization. Ever since, they had undergone long, harsh and painful experiments which required great amount of time and perseverance for recovery. They had somehow endured it all- and to their luck, the experiments proved successful in their case.
Naruto and Sasuke were considered unique specimen, who had come to possess the ability to attain superhuman powers. This had resulted in them becoming two of the most valuable agents that the organization had ever had, proving Kakashi's hunches to be correct. The scientists suspected that the success had to be connected to their own DNA's structure but had yet to break down the details for it. Although similar tests had been carried out on others, the same results had never been replicated as successfully.
Naruto had become insanely strong and gained a surprising ability to entirely and rapidly heal from most wounds he would attain during trainings or missions. That did not make him immortal though, he was still aging as a normal human, and had to protect his vital organs during fights.
The scientist had successfully implanted a new eye for Sasuke, but the experiments were performed on both of his eyes after the implantation. Kakashi had also lost an eye years ago during a mission, which was replaced with an eye who was donated to him from a deceased teammate, Obito. Obito's eyes would suddenly turn red in colour, with black patterns imprinted around the pupils, whenever his adrenaline would spike during stress or battle. The eyes true power had been initially activated by Obito when he had lashed out during one of the missions that he was carrying along with Kakashi. He had gotten so riled up and enraged that his comrades had been captivated that his eyes had been activated, granting him superhuman powers. He was suddenly able to manipulate the enemy standing in front of him by hypnotising them to do exactly what he wanted. At that specific mission he and Kakashi were able to save and release comrades that had been held hostage. Unfortunately, the mission ended with an explosion that would cost Obito's his life, and Kakashi- his friend and his eye.
The same kind of experiment that had been performed on Obito was performed on Sasuke's both eyes, sshockingly, the experiments would result in an even better outcome in Sasuke's case. Sasuke's eyes possessed the same abilities as Kakashi's (or Obito's), but it would later even surpass them. Sasuke's hypnotic powers were more advanced, refined and even more terrifying. During a training session, he had discovered that he could put anyone whose gaze he could meet, under his hypnosis. Further, the pattern around his eyes seemed different and at some point, he discovered that he could even make things disappear and reappear again, this part, however, proved to be a more delicate task, as Sasuke had yet to discover where the items were actually being moved to.
Replacing their missing arms proved to be a more difficult task, the gene manipulating team had still not found the perfect solution for that part. Further, due to Sasuke- and Naruto's current supreme capabilities the issue had not become prioritized. The men were offered prosthetic arms, who would have weapons built withing. However, the prosthetic arms proved to be heavy and it slowed and inhibited their movement, so the two decided to remove them at the end.
Naruto and Sasuke were subjected to comprehensive training that encompassed every aspect an agent could possibly dream of; combat, weaponry, body language, lip reading, pilot training, and surviving in the most impossible situations. Additionally, they were required to learn a fewer desirable skills such as etiquette, dancing, mathematics and history. Although daunting, it was imperative for a spy to master them in order to assume any given role and make it convincing.
Four years ago…
Naruto and Sasuke had completed several successful missions, granting them higher ranks in the organization. Naruto almost exposed himself in some of those missions, but luckily Sasuke was there to cover up for him. The first time Sasuke was forced to hypnotise someone on a mission, was when Naruto had accidently blown his cover. Naruto stepped up his game and ensured he would never again put himself or his comrades through such an situation ever again after that incident.
In time, the bond of comradery had grown with other members of the organization as well.
Shikamaru, being one of those comrades, had been there merely a year longer than they had. He was the head of the strategic unit as he possessed an insanely high IQ, which made him ideal for strategizing missions. He was able to think of all possible scenarios and outcomes which enabled him to plan the course of the mission and prevent any possible failures. The experiments conducted on him had further earned him a specific ability, which seems, through mind control, to inhibit one's body movement for a couple of minutes. The ability proved useful as it would make the enemy freeze in their tracks once he'd activate it.
Naruto and Sasuke had also befriended Kiba, a man whose powers had enabled him to communicate with animals- and allowed him to recruit them for attacks or scout missions. Another agent they had befriended via Kiba, was Shino, who specialized in communicating with bugs, who he also could recruit for missions. Kiba and Shino were perfect for tracking and ambush missions.
Lee, a hands-on agent, had unfortunately not been able to develop any specific superhuman powers, but as he had survived the experiments and proved to be the hardest working agent despite of that, the organisation had chosen to keep him nevertheless.
Neji was the only agent that they found to be the hardest to befriend. He carried a cold, arrogant and detached demeanour. His eye powers were believed to rival Sasuke's. The experiments performed on his eye, who had been previously damaged, were similar to Sasuke's, however, for a reason unknown to the scientist, the appearance and power had come out completely different. Neji was able to identify the type and flow of power in everyone's body, which made it easy for him to identify the enemy's powers and thus, weakness and immobilise them. Additionally, he was able to see from a great distance and even possessed Xray vision. Further, he excelled in physical combat.
At the headquarters
Shikamaru and commander Temari were studying a few documents together, while the remainder of the group shared a coffee break as they awaited instructions for their new mission.
"They're a couple." Kiba whispered to Naruto and Sasuke, as he observed the two discussing the documents.
"Whaaaa, where did you get that from?" Naruto asked, as his eyebrows rose, while indulging in a chocolate glazed donut.
"Uh, all that power and you're still an idiot!" Kiba huffed, shaking his head and laughing at his friend's ignorance, making Naruto and Sasuke laugh with him.
"Oy, hey Neji" Kiba saluted Neji as he walked into the room.
Neji responded with a stern look, and proceeded to ignore Kiba and take his seat in front of the group.
"Geez, all this time and he still has a stick up his ass…" Kiba said, frustrated by the fact that Neji had ignored him. "He should be grateful that we are still trying to be friendly to him, especially since he has those creepy eyes."
"Oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask. How can he see without pupils? Was it necessary for the experiment to go that far" Naruto asked Kiba and Sasuke in a hushed tone, failing to notice that Lee had been seated behind them.
"Actually... He had no pupils to begin with, they found him like this. He comes from a family with a history of making their own experiments…on their own children." Lee leaned forward and whispered to the three. "He is a good man though, once you come to know him. He just carries a lot of pain."
"Ah shit man, we're sorry, we didn't mean to sound heartless" Naruto said, scratching the back of his head and feeling embarrassed by being caught.
"I know you didn't! We're all in this together, isn't that right, Agent Uzumaki?" Lee smiled at Naruto.
"His family name, is it Hyuuga?" Sasuke, who had been quiet and observing Neji, inquired.
"Ah, yes, how did you know?", Lee asked, surprised that Sasuke had known as that information had never been disclosed.
"Distant memory. Did they find any more children?"
"A year ago, we went out to celebrate an accomplished mission. Neji had a little too much to drink and confessed to Tenten that he'd been broken by the fact that they'd never found his cousin, a younger girl. He has never spoken of it since, and it is evident that this has been very hard on him, so please don't mention it unless he does."
Sasuke nodded, dropping the subject, while Naruto and Kiba looked back and forth between Sasuke and Lee during the conversation. Naruto felt completely dumbfounded, as he had no idea what the hell they were talking about...
Three years ago
"Alfa-Team, help me welcome Sakura, who is our newest recruit. Don't underestimate her though, she can bring this whole department down with just one punch if wishes to…Further, Sakura has immensely impressed us due to her healing abilities... We've seen nothing like it... Somehow, she can heal and save lives, but don't ask me how".
Kakashi announced the new team member's recruitment.
"Good to meet you everyone!" Sakura greeted, happy to have gained such a prominent position within the organization as she had worked very hard for the last year to improve her abilities.
Sasuke was the first one to approach her, making her blush. She found him to be gorgeous, and he found her to be useful- and breathtaking, "Welcome to Alfa, Sakura" Sasuke greeted her, with a firm tone and a gentle handshake.
Naruto was surprised to observe the way that Sasuke had looked at and greeted Sakura, but he initially thought nothing more of it. Sakura seemed confident, strong and beautiful, of course Sasuke would acknowledge her.
"Oh, and by the way, Naruto and Sasuke; we believe that Sakura will be able to develop real human arms from your own cells for you in the near future", Kakashi added in a lazy tone before departing.
Sasuke and Naruto's eyes had almost bulged out of their sockets at that statement, they had given up on the hope of retrieving any kind of functioning arms, a long time ago. And even now, they dared not believe that such a thing could ever be possible…
Two months later, Sakura had succeeded in implanting new arms, by mixing their own human cells with artificially cultivated ones which resulted in a bionic solution with enhanced powers. The two chose to cover the arms up, for aesthetics, as they found them to be extremely hideous. But they were extremely grateful for Sakura's powers as the arms proved to be fully functionable and useful.
Year seven, present time
Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura had been sent out to several missions, and gained a record in number of accomplished missions in the organisation. The teams' abilities seem to complete and complement each other and they proved to be true elites in their field.
Although the three of them had built strong bonds and seen each other as family, Naruto had known that there was something more going on between his friends which they had yet not dared confess. He had witnessed Sakura and Sasuke falling in love with each other for the past three years of their lives, ever since her recruitment. Initially, it seemed as though they would never dare act upon it. That is until, Sasuke, had one day, informed Naruto, "I'm going to marry her."
"Whaaaat?! You can't joke around about this, I won't allow you to break her heart Sasuke" Naruto didn't need to ask who, knowing full well it was Sakura he was referring to, but still feeling like he needed to reprimanded his friend.
Sasuke smiled, "I'm not joking, dobe. I will marry her. After this mission, I will propose to her, and then I want to start a family. She is already in the organisation so there is nothing we need to hide from each other- or the department".
"Well, if you're truly serious about it, then I'm really happy for you, Sasuke", Naruto beamed as tears threatened to fall from his eyes.
Sasuke noticed how Naruto had grown as a man over the years, and came to admire and like him even more for it, "I hope you find it soon too, Naruto."
"What's that, teme?"
"Love…"
Naruto was awestruck, he never knew parental love, or any other familiar love. He was lucky to, at least, have experienced this type of friendly love- but a romantic love? Having his own family? It simply seemed as something very far-fetched for him.
