Black and Blue

Twin pairs of legs skidded apart from each other, both men rolling back away from the explosion they had just caused.

Kakashi mentally berated himself. He wouldn't win against Naruto using brute force, lord knows he has enough of it. He was an ANBU. He had to think like one. He was already drained from using his Kamui earlier, but he hit him! Those markings, that feeling, it was like the sage mode Minato had tapped into a few months before his death. Sage mode.

Naruto himself was stoic, thinking. Kakashi expected him to attack head on, probably had a million get out of jail free cards and a million ways to punish him for trying. The difference between him and the ANBU though, was durability. He only needed one hit, one attack to land, and it would be over.

In a rapid burst of speed, Naruto body flickered side to side, in quick succession as Kakashi launched fan after fan at him, the man dodging each time. When he was close, the sage pre-emptively slammed his hands into the floor, a barrier of wind coming up just as the Kakashi he saw exploded into a lightning natured explosion. It reflected of the wall, but the ground beneath started crumbling, Naruto backflipping to avoid an uppercutting chidori.

He landed, and was now on the defensive, blow after blow smashing into his guard, the sharingan wielder managing to dodge around attack after attack, Naruto's blocks uselessly predictable. Smartening up to his losing hand, Naruto took a kick to the face, barely moving or noticing it, charging up a wind blade in his hand. It exploded outward in an circular arc, slicing through Kakashi, though he exploded again, another clone, lightning seizing Naruto's body as the real Kakashi dove from above, yet another Chidori charged.

The younger man spawned a clone, his copy pushing him out of the way and taking the hit, allowing the original to smash a knee into Kakashi's stomach, grab into his lightning infused arm, and toss him over his shoulder whilst calling him a "one trick pony!"

Kakashi used Naruto's momentum to throw him mid-air, his grip still on his arm, slamming him into the air, eliciting a wheeze, before smashing a fist into his face. The ANBU tried for more, but was punished by an unseen kick to the stomach, sending him flying.

Naruto charged in, unleashing a flurry of hooks Kakashi dodged around. He tried to roundhouse kick him from below, but he caught it, tackling the blond and smashing him into the ground again, rolling over, turning around and kicking him, fire infusing its force. Naruto caught it, swinging the ANBU into the floor, then launching a wind ball at him, forcing the man to summon a wall of rock.

Soon, it was destroyed by a rasengan, the Kakashi behind taking the hit, but being revealed to be nothing but wood. The real Kakashi slashed Naruto's neck, but it was another clone, a barrage of Kunai flying at the masked man. He pushed them away with a lightning fast electric shockwave, kicking up yet more chakra infused dust. His sharingan couldn't see through it, the high concentration obscuring even Naruto's signature.

There was a calm moment as the dust settled, at it revealed Naruto missing.

Then, from above, a swirling shriek, as he threw a rasenshuriken right at his former sensei. Said man's borrowed eye bled, sealing the attack away.

"A completed rasengan?" He said in shock, launching 3 kunai at the airborne enemy, one deflecting off the other in an unpredictable way, making its way into his neck, coated with lightning, nicking against it but not piercing it.

Angered at his wound, Naruto spawned a clone to slingshot him down at Kakashi, the ANBU fighting back by launching tripwire kunai, a string attached to 2 parallel kunai set to explode via an explosive note. Naruto didn't stop, pushing the blades out of the way with a light gust of wind, spawning another clone, slingshotting him again, then slingshotting yet another clone at Kakashi. He dodged its drop kick handily, smashing an axe kick down, killing it with the single blow. Then, he was face to face with 3 opponents, breathing heavily.

"Getting tired senpai? Me, I'm only getting started." Naruto said, a vicious smile on his face.

Kakashi calmed himself, standing straight. "I borrowed this technique from a former teammate."

Naruto looked in confusion, right as his sage mode ran out, and Kakashi disappeared.

Then the next moment, one of his clones were cut through, from stomach to rib.

The next had his eye stabbed through.

It was only years of training and reflexes that allowed him to catch the kunai aimed at his heart, the blade slicing against his fingers. Remembering before, Kakashi let go, smashing a spinning kick into the jinjuriki's head, then battering him with strike after strike. He jumped up, kicked the jinjuriki in the head, then mid flip looked away from Naruto to his pouch, taking out two shuriken and launching them into the man's legs, before landing deftly.

Then, in a split second he charged lightning into his kunai for yet another raikiri, launching forward with arcs of electricity and an insane speed, ramming his kunai into Naruto,

And missing, the jinjuriki dodging at the last second, the blade going through the gap in his arm. Naruto smirked, and stabbed into the ANBU, blood spilling from his ribs.

Then he looked up, seeing another Kakashi, moments away from hitting him, chidori in hand. The clone ripped through the real Kakashi, going through the other side and hitting Naruto through his chest.

He had won. Kakashi had killed Naruto.

Then he popped. The clone popped. In that small moment where Kakashi flipped over, taking his eyes away, Naruto spawned a copy, hiding behind it perfectly.

The smoke cleared, and the already near dead Kakashi saw the jinjuriki smash a rasengan into his heart.

He had failed. Everyone. Always. He had even failed the boy. Minato's child, his brother not in blood but in truth. He could relate to him so much, understand him, but no. He was too busy trying to kill himself. Too busy trying to follow his father to take care of someone. That was the ugly truth. Everything that had happened to Naruto, everything he had become, was his fault.

And here he was, trying to kill himself all over again. He really was pathetic. Well, he was dead. Dying. Same thing. He had always been on the edge, really, ever since his father died. Since then, he was barely there, always tethered to something, someone. Minato, Yamato, Naruto.

Now it was all gone. Now he could be in piece. In hell. No, a person like him didn't need an afterlife.

All he needed was the worms.

He died screaming, blood flushing out as his chest was caved in by the bright blue death ball, pushed further and further in, the man showing no mercy.

None at all.

"Squad one is dead."

Tsunade looked up from her papers. Her eyes were wide.

"All of them?"

"Every last one."

She swallowed a gulp of spit.

"Dragon, leave."

"As you command."

She reached under her desk, fishing out a bottle of sake and a cup. She poured a shot out, before just leaving it there.

Kakashi was dead. There really was no hope for Naruto then.

The entire squad. Not just the captain, everyone. Was that what Nawaki would have become? No, look at her, she was a hypocrite. She was the lord of war, the queen of destruction. Look at what she has become?

She sends children into battlefields.

Lets mentors go on suicide missions to kill their students.

Hell, she let Naruto escape in the first place.

Why was she even here anymore? She didn't care, she didn't want this.

She looked at a picture of her, Shizune, and Sakura, all smiling.

Just a little longer.

Naruto didn't know what to think. He was dead, his teacher, the one who told him about his parentage, the man who saved his life. He didn't regret it, but he didn't feel much about it. He realised, it didn't matter to him anymore, the abandonment. He had let it go. It wasn't trauma anymore. He wanted to be hokage, but in a way as if he had never been born in the leaf. Power, respect, love, fear. He needed that, needed to breath it. To be it.

He didn't care about Kakashi anymore. But there was still the Leaf, still Temari. He was scared in a way. What if he failed? What if he lost?

Then he realised that he didn't care, because he was Uzumaki Naruto, and he was gonna be the hokage.
