Birthday Present
It's Donna's birthday, and after surprising her with breakfast in bed, filled with all her favorite things, they both get up and head to the kitchen. As she yawns and rubs her slightly swollen face, Harvey can't help but admire her. He still can't believe he gets to wake up to her every day.
"Stop staring at me like a psycho and give me my gift!" she demands.
He laughs. "Who said there's a gift?"
She rolls her eyes and reaches out her hand to him. "Give it to me." He remains silent for a few moments, pretending to create a dramatic pause. "Harvey!" she whines.
Harvey exhales. "Alright, you got me. I bought you something, but it hasn't arrived yet."
"What did you buy me?" she asks eagerly.
"A blender, one of those big ones," he says, going the extra mile to keep it serious.
"Huh? I don't cook, Harvey," she replies, her face scrunching up. "I thought you were getting better at giving gifts," she says, sounding frustrated.
"I know you don't cook... and when you tried, you nearly set the neighborhood on fire," he teases his wife, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer.
She snores, looking at him through narrowed eyes, willing to start a fight if necessary. "Very funny."
"Am I lying?" he asks, chuckling, as he holds her tightly.
"No," she huffs. "But I won't accept a blender as a birthday present. Return it to Amazon before it arrives. I don't cook," she says, fully annoyed, trying to wriggle out of his grasp. At that moment, Harvey's joke crumbles, and he can't help but laugh. "What are you laughing at?" she asks, still attempting to free herself.
"I know you don't cook... That's why I've hidden your present in the kitchen," he tells her, teasing her, and Donna playfully steps him in revenge. "Ouch!" he complains.
"It's my birthday. Stop teasing me!" she says, her voice rising, acting like a child.
Harvey laughs. "Okay, okay," he responds and kisses her pouting lips. "Here..." he says, reaching towards the cupboard. Behind the pots, he retrieves the gift for his wife. "You'd never find it here. I had to make sure. It's not easy to surprise you, you know," he justifies himself, handing Donna a Tiffany bag that lights up her entire face. "Happy birthday, Donna," he says sweetly, and she smiles, jumping up and down with excitement as she starts to open her gift.
