Power to Protect, Power to Destroy

Prologue chapter for a little crossover story, Stranger Things and Spider-Man, a little different for me in terms of pairings, but I'm going to try it, anyway, this just introduces our hero, so, enjoy.

Disclaimer: I don't own Spider-Man, Stranger Things or its characters.

Prologue

It was the beginning of a typical New York morning and with the sunlight begin to filter into the bedroom of a local teenager, in the small but still tidy apartment that he lived in with his family. The young man was a little above average height, around five foot eight with short brown hair and eyes, rather pale skin and a lanky but toned build. He mumbled as he began to wake up, only to jolt awake on hearing a now familiar buzzing sound. It was a special feature built into his phone that he had set up for special incidents. He quickly pressed it while sitting on the side of his bed, clad in just the boxers he typically slept in. The female voice came through the speaker, part of the way through the report.

"...Officers to Midtown local bank, bank robbery in progress, perpetrator's identity confirmed as Herman Schultz."

The boy's eyes widened. "Shocker."

He quickly got to his feet and began hurrying around his room, getting ready.

"Will, is everything okay?" The voice of his mother, Joyce, said through his door.

Will Byers tensed, half-dressed and turned. "Um yeah mom, I'm good. I'm, kinda in a rush so, I'll grab breakfast when I'm out."

There was a pause and then Joyce sighed. "Okay honey, be careful and make sure you actually get something to eat, alright."

"I will, I will."

He heard his mother's footsteps leaving the door and he breathed a sigh of relief before finally fully pulling on his black and gold suit, mostly black with a web like design over the whole suit, the gold parts being the large spider across the chest and back as well as down the sides.

For this was in fact the secret that Will had, the reason why he was tuned in to the police radio signals, he had been bitten by a spider that had been affected by a strange radiation and it had altered his DNA, giving him super-powers and, after learning about his powers and realizing the importance of what he had, he knew he had to do something good and important with them. It had happened at random but Will had discovered a proper use for his powers when he inadvertently stopped a fleeing mugger and discovered his strength. He then managed to work out his costume to disguise his identity, in order to protect his family, and so it was, at that moment, Will pulled on his mask and fully became his super-hero alter-ego, Spider-Man. With everything ready he knew he had to act fast, before Shocker escaped, but as always, he felt bad for lying to his mother, but knew he had no choice, for her own safety. Taking a deep breath, Will turned and catapulted himself out of his open window, firing out a web line and swung out into the city skyline, heading for the Midtown bank.

"Here I come, Shocker!"
