Roman is still breathing hard from his phone call with Gerri when she clears her throat and he remembers she's still on the line. Embarrassment courses through him. He's only had successful phone sex with Willa before, and she was a professional, so he could just say kay thanks bye when he was finished. He doesn't feel like he can cut General Counsel off in the same way.
"So, uh… thanks," he says at last. "That was…" The best sex I've ever had even though we weren't in the same room?
"Glad I could help." Gerri's tone is brisk, she's all business again.
"Do you want me to, uh…" He's not even sure how to reciprocate, he's never been good at dirty talk.
"No. I'm quite capable of getting myself off without your help, thank you."
He stifles a shocked laugh. "Gerri, you little minx."
"Will that be all?"
"Yeah. Thank you."
"Sleep well, Roman." Her voice is suddenly almost gentle.
"You too. Goodnight."
After she's hung up, he's still thinking about how he can repay her in some way. After a quick shower, he has a brainwave and scrolls through his photo album until he finds one of the dick pics he sent to Tabitha, or possibly Grace, with the subtext of see, I'm a normal guy. He emails the photo to Gerri as an attachment with the subject Management training program materials (confidential).
There's no reply at first and he worries that he's got it wrong, that he's actually shocked or offended her. Then just as he's about to fall asleep he sees her reply saying Materials require improvement. To be discussed.
He smiles and closes his eyes, feeling a strange kind of peace settle over him. He thinks about Tabitha and their failed attempts to consummate their relationship, even over the phone. He thinks about rocket launches, and Kendall's strange behaviour lately, and shooters at ATN, and Mo's funeral, which he signed up for management training to miss. He thinks of his father's latest round of Boar on the Floor and how when he had pointed at Gerri a part of Roman, who normally enjoys seeing his father's friends humiliated, had thought instinctively no, not her.
He drifts off to sleep with Gerri's voice the last thing he thinks of.
