Kendall tells Roman and Shiv the news a week after hearing from the fertility clinic. On the day of the results, he and Rava had sat side by side in their home, Rava calm and pragmatic, talking about their options, while Kendall felt destroyed. He had finally said that Rava should try to find someone else, who can give her the family she deserves. He even tried to take his wedding ring off, until Rava grabbed his hand, almost angry, saying stop it Ken. She had promised him that there's no one else in the world she wants to have a family with and that she'll never leave him no matter what. He ended up crying in her lap, thinking nonsensically about what his father will say.
There's a pause after he tells his siblings and he can't look at them, not wanting to see the pity in their eyes.
"Fuck, man," says Roman finally. "That sucks, dude. I'm sorry." This makes Kendall feel worse. If even Roman doesn't have a joke in him then it must be bad.
"Yeah, sorry," says Shiv. "But you have other options, right?" She's gone straight into practical mode.
"Yeah. We might adopt. Rava wants to adopt."
"There you go," says Roman. "I'm sure there's some poor kid in Outer Mongolia who's just desperate enough to want you as a dad." It's pretty lame as far as Roman quips go, but at least he's trying.
"It'll be fine." Shiv reaches out to put her hand on Kendall's. He finally looks at her.
"I haven't told Dad yet," he says. "I know he wants grandkids, to carry on the company..." He can't imagine Shiv with a kid. Roman would probably be good, being a big kid himself, but he's never even had a long-term relationship. Connor, who knows. Kendall's brother who is 15 years older than him might still be able to produce an heir.
"We won't say anything," says Shiv, understanding. Kendall takes her hand, placing it over his heart, blinking back tears.
"At least you won't have to jerk off at that clinic anymore," says Roman. "You can get back to jerking off in your office like a normo."
Kendall finally laughs and Roman reaches out to cup the back of his head.
