Chapter 41: Guardian Angel
Skit 1: Protector from Above
In the middle of the day, Ruby and Khazhak walk through the streets of Vale after a long week of classes at Beacon.
"Ugh, those classes were so boring. But, Weiss was even worse," Ruby pouts.
"Maybe if you'd paid better attention in your classes, you wouldn't have invited the Ice Queen's ire, little rose. You are the leader of Team RWBY after all. You need to set an example," Khazhak replies.
"Blah, blah, blah, enough school talk. It's the weekend, so let's relax with a walk of the town. Come on, Khazhak, I want to check out the weapon shop," Ruby says, grabbing his hand and pulling him along.
As they pass by a tree on the sidewalk, Taiyang pops out from behind it, "That little, disgusting rat! Trying to pull the moves on my sweet little Ruby? No! That is not happening. Not on my watch. Not even the heavens themselves can stop me from butchering any perverted boy that goes after my daughters," and Taiyang goes to follow his daughter and friend.
"Not even the heavens, huh?" a female voice says as Summer Rose floats down from the skies, a halo floating over her head. "Tsk, tsk, tsk, Taiyang can certainly be overprotective sometimes. As if he's one to talk when it comes to relationships. Oh well, guess I'll just have to intervene," Summer smiles.
…
Inside the weapons shop in Vale, Khazhak watches, chuckling, as Ruby gazes at all the weapons in the shop. They were originally coming here to restock on ammunition for their weapons, but Khazhak knew better. He knew Ruby after all. He had already bought their ammo while Ruby was still gushing at the weapons on display. In another aisle, Taiyang leers around the corner, grabbing a rifle fused with a hammer from one of the shelves.
"Just need one shot and then make sure it looks like an accident, and no one will be the wiser," Taiyang says as he takes aim.
However, Summer floats above him. She taps his shoulder, making him turn to find no one behind him. With him distracted, she switches out the rounds in the weapon. Focusing back on his objective, he aims and pulls the trigger... only for the weapon to explode in ice, freezing him and the weapon in place.
"What?! What the-! I was sure I put fire Dust in here. How did this happen?!" Taiyang looks around frantically.
"Ahem," Taiyang turns as the Shopkeep appears with a grumpy look on his face.
Summer floats in the air, giggling as Ruby and Khazhak leave the store, none the wiser.
…
A little while later, Ruby and Khazhak are having a bite to eat at a local café. Ruby is enjoying a tasty strawberry cake while Khazhak is keeping it life with two cream puffs. At another table, Taiyang watches them while hiding behind a newspaper. He peeks past the pages and glares at Khazhak.
"That little boy rat, trying to seduce my sweet little girl with tasty treats. Oh, he's good, but he won't fool me. I've got just the things to save Ruby from a terrible fate," Taiyang pulls out a box of Rapier Wasps, and then a jar of nectar from one of the trees in the Forever Fall Forest. "I just need to throw this jar onto Khazhak and then release the hive and they'll sting him all the way to Mistral and my precious Ruby will be safe," Taiyang chuckles evilly.
Without him realizing it, Summer Rose floats above him. With a flick of her wrist, the chair Taiyang's sitting on slides out from under him, causing him to fall onto the ground and the nectar crashes on top of him, splattering him in its sweetness.
"Oh, that's not good," Taiyang mutters, and then hears buzzing from the box... the opened box. "Ah!" Taiyang screams as he runs away while Summer laughs at his misery.
"Sorry, Tai. I love you, but this is the perfect time for Ruby to experience love. Oh well," Summer says.
Meanwhile, Taiyang runs down the street with the wasps hot on his tail, "Wait a minute. All this bad luck happening to me... Of course, this is Qrow's work, isn't it. That dusty old bird. I'll get you for this, Qrow!" he yells while running for his life.
Skit 2: Animal Cutey
Ruby is in her dorm room, about to happily munch on a cookie when suddenly Zwei busts in through the door.
"Ah! Zwei, what's wrong boy?" Ruby asks. Zwei looks around frantically before jumping up and hiding deep in Ruby's hood. "Zwei, what's got you so scared?"
"Is anyone in here? Oh, Zwei!" Ruby looks as Yukari pops up from outside the room. "Oh, Ruby, have you seen Zwei? I was looking for him,"
Ruby can feel Zwei shaking in her hood and decides to be safe about it, "Sorry, but I haven't seen him. He might be outside out on a walk with Yang. I think it's her turn today. Why are you looking for Zwei, anyway?" Ruby says.
"I've been working on some outfits for pets as part of a special line my company is working on. I have a few ideas for dogs and I thought that Zwei would look adorable in them. So, I wanted to have him try them on. I thought I saw him run in here," Yukari looks around.
"Sorry, I haven't seen him in here. But, good luck on your new clothing line," Ruby shakes her head.
"Thank you," Yukari says and leaves.
Once the coast is clear, Ruby lets Zwei out of her hood, "I can see why you're so scared now. Don't worry, Zwei. I'll keep you safe from Yukari," Ruby pumps her fists, but Zwei is still shaking.
Ruby then spends some time helping Zwei hide from Yukari as the she-devil stalks all over the place for the little corgi. When Yukari checks the kitchen, Ruby hides Zwei in the freezer. When they're in of the one of the locker rooms, Ruby hides Zwei in Blake's locker (sorry Blake). The circle goes round and round for a good period of the day. Ruby and Zwei were hoping that Yukar would get tired, or look for someone else's dog instead. However, Yukari is nothing if not determined. Heck, in the girl's bathroom, Ruby hides Zwei in one of the toilets to avoid Yukari's maniacal gaze. After a while, Ruby is starting to get desperate. She needs backup.
…
"Weiss!" Ruby yells as she crashes into their dorm room while Weiss is studying.
Weiss nearly has a heart attack, "How many times have I told you to stop doing that?!"
"I need your help! It's Zwei!" Ruby says.
"What?! What happened to Zwei? Did Nora do something to him again?" Weiss is dead serious when it comes to the adorable corgi.
"No, not Nora. It's Yukari. She's trying to dress him up in weird dog outfits and she's scaring him! I've been trying to hide him from her, but it's taking it's toll. Listen, I need you to help me hide Zwei from Yukari until she goes away or finds another dog to try the outfits on. Please, please help me," Ruby begs, and Zwei gives Weiss his puppy-dog eyes.
Weiss can't resist the double cuteness attack, "A-Alright, I'll help you! Just leave Zwei to me,"
"Ah, thank you, Weiss! You're the best, bestie!" Ruby cheers before leaving to lure Yukari away.
"Now then, what am I going to do with you, Zwei?" Weiss wonders.
"Zwei!" Weiss hears Yukari's voice as she approaches. Weiss hides Zwei under her bed before Yukari enters the room. "Weiss, have you seen Zwei?"
"No, can't say that I have," Weiss replies.
Yukari smirks, "Really. You know, if you helped me, you'd get first look and first pick at all the pictures of Zwei in my cute little outfits for him. Such as these," Yukari pulls out a few pictures of her designs.
Weiss inspects the designs and freezes. These outfits... on Zwei... He would look absolutely adorable in them. Weiss' heart and mind quickly fall to temptation and she slowly turns her head towards Zwei hiding under her bed. Yukari follows her gaze and spots Zwei. Their expressions turn completely menacing and Zwei quakes in fear. Weiss betrayed him.
Skit 3: Bad Luck Proof
Ruby and Yang are walking through the courtyard of Bacon along with Khazhak and Porphyrius.
"So, as I was saying, I heard our Uncle Qrow is coming for a visit, and I don't know what to do. I mean, I don't want to hurt his feelings, but it's almost impossible to be around him for even a few minutes because his semblance always makes things crazy," Ruby notes fearfully.
"Yeah, the last time I tried hanging out with him, my hair got completely soaked, then someone dumped their garbage out from a window on top of me. It took me a week to get rid of that smell and get my hair back to normal," Yang groans.
"I doubt you'd hurt his feelings. He's been stuck with that semblance of his since before you two were even alive. Just tell it to him straight," Khazhak shrugs his shoulders.
A thought occurs to Porphyrius, "You know, now that you mention it, I recall how whenever Edom was around Qrow, nothing ever happened to him,"
The girls stare at him in shock, "Wait, really?!" they ask together.
"Yeah, I remember him telling me about it a few times..." Porphyrius thinks back.
…
One time, Edom was practicing with his twin-scythe out in the courtyard in front of Beacon. As he does so, Qrow walks by while taking a swig of his flask, while Sun walks from the opposite direction. Suddenly, two branches of a nearby tree break off and fall. One lands on Sun's head, knocking him out cold, but the other gets cut in half by Edom as he swings his twin-scythe round. Qrow looks on, actually a little surprised by that scene.
…
"So, there I was, watching over Azula as she was practicing for her next big show when I spotted these two paparazzi dogs trying to get some secret photos of her. Naturally, I caught them, destroyed their cameras, and scared them so bad they practically wet themselves," Lloyd laughs as he recounts his story to Khazhak and Edom.
"Does Azula know you're practically watching her like some creepy stalker?" Khazhak cocks an eyebrow.
"Hey, that's beside the point! But, that's not even the best part..." Lloyd continues into his little story.
As he does, Qrow walks by. Suddenly, a car passes by on the road, running over a large puddle on the side of it. The water flies out and splashes onto Lloyd and Khazhak, but Edom remains completely dry even though he was in the middle of the trio.
"How does that even make sense?!" Lloyd yells.
…
Edom is in the library, studying with Weiss and Pyrrha at one of the tables. They each have books in their hands as they meticulously chalk down notes for their classes.
"Ah, finally peace and quiet so I can study. If only every day could be like this," Weiss sighs joyfully.
A moment later, the bookshelf standing behind them tips and falls over, crashing on top of Weiss, Pyrrha, and their table. Edom is the only one left unharmed. Behind where the bookshelf was originally standing is Qrow, looking over the books to find one that strikes his fancy.
"Oh, sorry about that," Qrow says offhandedly.
…
Ruby and Yang look at Porphyrius as he recounts the tales, "To this day, no one knows how he's remained immune to Qrow's semblance. Even Qrow and Edom haven't figured it out," Porphyrius says.
"Hey guys," they look as Edom approaches them. "What are you guys talking about?" Suddenly, Yang and Ruby latch onto his arms. "What the-?!"
"Please, teach us your ways, Master! Save us!" Ruby begs frantically.
"Show us the path to salvation, O great one!" Yang begs as well.
"I feel like I'm missing something here. Guys, help me out here. These two are creeping me out!" Edom gets scared.
"Yeah, you're on your own," Khazhak says before he and Porphyrius make a break for it.
"Traitors!" Edom yells.
And that's the chapter. I had some fun with these skits. Probably some of my favorites. Until then, please Read and Review.
