And here we are. Finally, after two years, this fic is done.
Title Song: "The Best Is Yet to Come" by Frank Sinatra
"Yo, Tee!" Angel waved from the long table in the dining room. "Where ya been? When you and Smiles didn't come in last night, we though them angels had taken youse out!"
"Nah." Tina clutched her husband's hand. "Al and I just decided to take a…personal day."
"Right." Angel smirked as he eyed them up and down. "Ya missed a button, Smiles."
Alastor quickly fixed his jacket, blushing along with his wife. Tina hastened to the table with the breakfast buffet.
"So, Charlotte!" Alastor sat down, snapping up a plate of bacon and sausages for himself. "How's business now that it's been two years, we've had yet another Extermination, and not a single rehabilitated guest!"
Vaggie scowled at him. "You bas—"
"It's fine, Vaggie." Charlie sighed. "We always knew this project was going to be long-term. Fortunately, most of our guests are happy just to have a safe place to stay."
Angel pointed his fork at her. "Didn't a bunch of them check out this morn—AH!"
An elbow in the gut from Husk shut him up.
"Setbacks are expected when startin' a business." Tina sat next to Alastor with her plate of food. "Ya know when I first started The Reckoning," she said, taking a big bite into a powdered donut, "I only got about five guests a night?" With half a donut in one hand, she picked up a strip of bacon with the other and chewed on it. "And some critic complained the girls weren't showin' enough skin?"
She paused to hold the bacon strip over the donut and chomp on them both. "Damn. These donuts are really good. Where'd ya get these?"
Alastor tilted his head. "Why did you grab donuts, darling? You don't normally eat them."
In fact, there weren't a lot of sweets Tina liked. Peach cobbler and lane cake, yes, but not donuts or pastries of any kind.
She shrugged. "Just had a craving."
"Craving?" Angel snorted. "What are ya, preggers?"
Tina choked on her donut while Alastor spat out his coffee. Right in Angel's face.
"God, Jesus!" The spider used all his hands to grab napkins to wipe himself. "I was just kidding! Everyone knows sinners can't get knocked up down here!"
Alastor and Tina shared a glance. Then they put down everything they'd been holding and bolted out of the dining room.
"What was that all about?" Vaggie asked.
"Probably gettin' in a quickie." Angel shrugged. "Who knew all it took to get Smiles horny was pregnant talk?"
But as Husk helped Angel get clean, his eyes widened in recollection of his conversation with the Radio Demon twelve years ago. Was it possible? The couple had been more intimate since renewing their vows. They didn't talk about exactly what they did in private, but it was written all over their faces. Could they have done whatever ritual Alastor knew would get them what they'd wanted for so long?
If so, how would the other demons in the hotel react? How would every other sinner in Hell react?
"Well?" Tina said.
In the penthouse suite they now shared, Alastor ran his hands over her tummy. "I…don't know. Mother was the one who could sense if a woman was with child. I never bothered to learn." He straightened up. "When was your last monthly?"
Drinking Lilith's blood had come with side effects. Including causing Tina to menstruate for the first time since she'd died.
"Dunno." She rubbed her stomach. "Forgot to keep track. Been so busy tryin' to get used to havin' 'em again and they've been irregular as it is."
Alastor scratched his head. "Should we ask a doctor?"
"Right, that'll be an interesting conversation." Tina made her hand into a phone. "Hey, doc. Can we book an appointment for a pregnancy test? I know sinners can't get pregnant, but we're an exception cuz we made a deal with Lucifer. Did ya know we can do that?" She shook her head. "We can't go out and buy a pregnancy test either. We're so recognizable. Someone might take a pic and post it on Sinstagram and wonder what the hell we know that other sinners don't."
Alastor sighed. "There's only one person we can go to about this. The good news is he'll be all too happy to meet with us."
With Tina's permission, Lucifer felt her stomach. She expected his hand to glow or for him to mutter a spell or something, but he simply stared at her tummy, his eyes narrowed in concentration. Then the corners of his mouth stretched to where his ears would've been. If he had ears.
"Well, Mother of Me." Lucifer laughed as he withdrew his hand. "It actually worked."
Tina gasped and covered her mouth. Alastor placed his hands on her shoulders.
"You mean," the Radio Demon said, his smile twitching, "we're…?"
Lucifer nodded. "Congratulations, my dears. You are finally with child. And a powerful one, from what I can sense."
Tina turned to her husband, tears in her eyes. "We…"
"We…" Alastor took her face in his hands.
"Having…" She stood on her toes.
"Having…" He leaned in.
Before either of them could finish, their lips met.
"Yes, yes." Lucifer waved a hand. "Remember, lovebirds, once this child comes of age, they're coming to work for me."
"We know," Alastor muttered before kissing Tina again.
"Baby," she murmured against his lips. "A baby."
Lucifer cleared his throat. "As much as I'd like to watch this, I'm sure you have much to discuss. So, good day."
With a snap of the Devil's fingers, Alastor and Tina were teleported to their manor. It took them a minute to finally pull away from each other and notice that their surroundings had changed.
"He's right." Tina took Alastor's hands in hers. "This is a big deal. What do we tell the others?" She touched her tummy. "They're gonna notice me growing. And when the baby comes, we won't be able to hide it forever. This won't be easy."
"No, it won't be easy." Alastor wrapped an arm around her waist. "But we knew that when we made this decision. So, no matter what happens next, I can tell you that I've never been happier than I am in this moment."
She smirked. "Even happier than our second wedding?"
"Infinitely more." He kissed her forehead, resting a hand over the one on her stomach. "I hadn't thought it possible for me to fall in love, let alone start a family. But here we are."
He pulled her close. "So, thank you, my sweet little bat, for making the impossible possible with me."
As their lips met once more, Tina whispered, "I love you."
He hummed as he dipped her. "The feeling's mutual, chère."
Thank all of you for sticking out for this very long, angsty fic. I'm likely not going to put in another multi-chapter fic for this AU, but may upload a few one-shots in the future. At least one regarding the birth of their child. But mostly I'll be putting my energy into editing my original novel, and making more comics and videos for my (username is the same).
But for now, farewell! If you liked this, check out my other fics from other fandoms on this site!
