here is chapter 2. i hope you like it!
The palace was huge. When sofia got off the carriage she stood staring at the castle in awe for a few moments, until her mother snapped her out of it. "come on, sofia!" miranda called. "coming, mom!" she called back, before she ran over.
"this castle is amazing!" sofia said excitedly once she reached her mother. Miranda laughed at the little girl's excitement. Throughout the course of walking through the castle sofia had to be pryed away from the many wonders of the castle multiple times. Soon enough, they reached a pair of large double doors that led into the throne room. "we have arrived" baileywick said.
The doors were yanked open. Miranda and sofia quickly hurried inside. "good morning, your majesty" miranda said as she curtsied. Sofia quickly copied her mom, although her curtsy was a bit more⦠messy. "please, call me Roland" the king said. "as you wish" miranda replied. "shall I get to work then?" she asked. Once the king nodded both miranda and sofia got to work on making shoes.
They were almost done when the troublesome duo of james and amber ran inside. "james! Give me my crown back" amber yelled. "no can do" james replied teasingly. "amber! James! We have people over; can you not see that?" roland said. "oh! Sorry daddy" amber apologized. James surrendered the crown to amber before walking over and inspecting the shoes miranda was making. "these look really good. Can I have a pair?" james asked his father. "if it's not too much trouble" the king said, turning to miranda. "it's no problem your majes- I mean roland" miranda replied.
"sofia, could you take his measurements?" "sure, mom!" sofia said enthusiastically. "can I have a pair of dancing slippers?" amber asked, noticing a pair in miranda's work bag. "sure" roland said, and miranda began taking her measurements too.
Pretty soon she was done with the shoes. When james tried his shoes on they fit perfectly. "these are perfect for the garden!" james yelled before running out of the room, presumably to the garden. When amber tried hers on, she had quite a bit to say. "these shoes are okay. Second class at best. I suppose that is to be expected by a shoemaker from the village." Amber said. Miranda felt her anger rise. "whatever do you mean?" she asked. "just that shoes from the villiage are inferior at best." At this miranda couldn't hold back her anger any longer.
"how dare you?! I don't care if you're a princess or not you have no right to speak to me like that. I am the best shoemaker in the country and I can prove it. You just watched me spend an hour working on your shoes. Not a stitch is out of place. This is probably the best pair of dancing slippers you will ever own. Yet, just because they are made by me and I live in the villiage, they are immediately branded as inferior? I'm sorry, your majesty but you can find a new cobbler." Miranda yelled. Everyone was staring at her in disbelief. Amber looked a bit fearful.
"come on sofia." Miranda said. "I'll meet you by the entrance mom!" sofia said. Miranda softened a bit once she saw her daughter. She nodded at sofia before turning on her heel and walking out of the room. Sofia made sure her mom had left before she turned to amber.
"you have no idea what my family has been through. You insulted my mom, when she was doing something nice for you. The money we could have earned from this would have been enough to last us a while. But my mom walked out because of your rudeness and if I was in my mom's place I would have done the same. I hope your happy." Sofia said before she walked out of the room and hurried to her mother.
