The State Verses Derek Morgan Ch 42
When Reid and Shane pulled up at the cemetary they saw the machinery there and ready, they had been waiting for them to arrive before they started digging up the grave, as he stood there Reid couldn't help but feel something he hadn't felt since Penelope had been declared dead, he had hope, hope that this wasn't her body and that she was alive out there somewhere, but the question was, where, where was she.
A few minutes later the coffin supposedly housing Penelope Grace Garcia was pulled from under the ground and placed on top of the grass where several men loaded it into the back of the hearse. Reid said, "we'll follow you to the ME's office", the drive said, "okay, I notified Tasha and she's waiting for the body to arrive", Reid and Shane hopped back into their SUV and followed the hearse back to the medical examiners office.
eid and Shane paced and paced in one room while Tasha was in the other room with what was believed to Penelope's body, after what seemed like forever Tasha came over to them and stopped. Reid and Shane in unison said, "welllllll?", Tasha smiled and said, "there is no scar behind the left ear", Reid said ,"did you check the right one too?", Tasha said, "I did and there is no scar there either, which tells me that this isn't Penelope's body".
Reid and Shane looked at each other and smiled, Reid said,"so if this isn't her body, where is she?", Shane said,"my money is on the twins, I bet they have her but why do all of this with the body double, why switch things around like this?", Reid said, "good question but for now let's just be glad that there is no scar behind either ear", Shane smiled and said, "that means my black queen is alive out there somewhere".
Tasha said, "so what are you going to do now?", Reid said, "call Hotch and fill him in on what we found out", Shane looked at Tasha and said, "how long will it take to get a DNA match on this body?", she said, "well to find out if this is Penelope's body would take between 3 to 5 days", Reid said, "can you run the test?", she said, "I can but?", Reid said, "but what?", she said, "I need approval", Reid said, "isn't it enough grounds considering their is no scar behind the ear?", she said, "it should be".
She bit down on her bottom lip and said,"I'll do it", she said, "waitttttttt a minute, do you know what Penelope's blood type is?", Shane and Reid both in unison said, "A", Tasha said, "I can just call the funeral home and see if they still have some of the blood left, if they do, we can get a type and cross match to get the blood type" as she grabbed her cell and called the funeral home.
Thankfully they keep several samples of blood from each body for several days just in case samples are needed, the funeral director happily agreed to do a type and cross match on a sample of the blood. Tasha said, "please call me back as soon as you find out", the director said, "I need about 45 minutes", Tasha said, "thank you so much" before ending the call, she then looked at Reid and Shane and said, "he said he'd need about 45 minutes".
Reid blew out a deep breath and said, "it will be the longest 45 minutes of our lives", Tasha nodded her head and said,"but think positively, think that the blood that belonged to this body wasn't a match to Penelope's, let's pray that the type is anything other than type A" to which both Reid and Shane nodded their heads in agreement and then sent up a silent prayer that they were right and that the body in the other room didn't belong to their friend.
Around 50 minutes later Tasha's cell started ringing, she saw that it was the funeral home and she answered the phone and said, "please give me some good news", the director said, "I did the blood typing and this blood was AB". Tasha felt her heart racing, she put the phone on speaker and said, "can you say that again please?", "the funeral home director said, "sure, the blood from the exhumed body was AB not A".
Shane said, "so that means?", Reid smiled and said, "that means that the body in the other room isn't Garcia's", he pulled Shane into a hug and said, "IT ISN'T GARCIAAAAAAA", tears of joy streamed down all three faces at the news that Penelope's body wasn't in the other room.
