Chapter One: Evacuation

By: AL_Stardust

Alex was the first one to wake up. He quietly made his way to the entrance hatch of the bunker and peeked outside. All he could smell was the smoke that still scorched the sky, and he could see the forest ruins that had burned down. He was close to opening the hatch when he heard a static noise followed by two voices that he knew all too well; Imperial Officers. "What was that?" one of the officers asked, "You heard that too, right?" "Yeah, it came from over there. Let's go check it out." The other officer replied. They both pulled out their blasters and started traversing closer and closer. Afraid of making a noise and alerting the officers.

He froze.

Not a single sound.

Except for the light thump of the officers' feet.

The only thing he felt was dread.

Adrenaline pumping through his heart.

He could feel it pulsing in his ears.

In reality, it was more like 30 seconds, but it felt much longer. Finally, the silence was interrupted by a slight beeping noise. "We should probably report back to the shuttle our findings of this sector. We found some valuable items over at their citadel." They started heading in the other direction, only a few feet from finding the bunker. Alex was finally able to breathe again. He traversed the back down the bunker and woke Eli and Sarah. He told Eli and Sarah what had happened, "Wow, we almost got caught? We would've been done for." Eli said. "Agreed, we should pack whatever we can and try to get off-world. Somehow." Sarah replied. That's when Alex came up with an idea. "Wait, I heard the officers talking about some shuttle. What if we impersonate the officers?" He said. "They seem young enough for us to pull it off." Eli and Sarah looked at him like he was crazy. "Are you saying that we become the thing that destroyed our kind?" Sarah snapped. Her voice echoed through the bunker. "What other choice do we have," Eli replied. "Even if we do steal the ship. Unless we impersonate the officers, we won't get past the star destroyer." "Good point," Sarah replied. Alright, let's do it. I have a bad feeling about this, though."

With all of them in agreement, they packed everything they could, including a couple of blasters to take out the guards. Alex opened the hatch and climbed out first, followed by Eli and Sarah close behind him. They crept through the ruins of the forest, eventually making their way to the once-populated area of Mandalore. Now there was nothing left but ruins in a barren wasteland of what used to be. The sight utterly shocked them, the buildings burned down, and the air smelled scorched. Everything they were raised to fight for is now in ruins in a single night. Alex could tell that Eli and Sarah were as shocked as he was, tears welled up in each of their eyes, and none could help it. They stood there for another five minutes until Alex stated, "We should probably get going. We have to intercept the officers while we can." They headed deeper into the ruins when some imperial navy officers almost caught them. The same ones he saw before. Judging by their insignias, Alex could tell they were ensigns. "I thought you said there were three of them?" Sarah said. "I never said that," Alex said. "I assumed there would be stormtroopers back at the shuttle. We can take one of them out and impersonate them." "Oh, you are basing this whole plan on your assumption?" Sarah replied, "Pretty Ambitious, don't you think?" Alex replied, "I'm always ambitious. Now let's think of a plan to take these guys out. We all have blasters, right?" "Yep," Sarah replied. "If we all attack simultaneously, we should be able to take them out." "No," Alex replied, "They will probably contact the stormtroopers at the shuttle for reinforcements, they'll surround us, and then we'll be dead the next moment." "What makes you think there are even stormtroopers at all?" Sarah snapped, frustrated at not knowing whether Alex was intelligent or paranoid. "That's the thing. I don't know. I just have a feeling." Alex replied. "But it's not the first time I've encountered this feeling. This feeling usually pops up whenever I don't know where to go. And It's saying that there are stormtroopers that we can impersonate." "You better be sure that this feeling is steering us the right way, or else we're dead," Sarah replied. A mild beep came from Sarah's comm. "Eli's in position to strike. You ready, Alex?" "The real question is, are you, Sarah?" Alex replied with a smirk.

"At this point, I'm ready to take on a thousand of these guys if it means getting back at the empire, and all the pain they've caused will be dealt back to them tenfold," Sarah replied. "I'll do that or die trying." "Good to know," Axel said. "All right, everyone, move in!" They jumped the ensigns, and before they could draw their blasters, they were down in the blink of an eye, both with a burning hole in their chests. Since their uniforms were a darker navy blue, the marks on the uniforms wouldn't stand out too much. At least, that's what they hoped. Eli and Alex both put on the uniforms that the officers were wearing. Sarah smiled at them. "If I didn't know better, I'd shoot you both down now. Thinking you're actual officers. No one would be able to tell the difference." She said. "Can't tell if that's a compliment or a threat," Eli said. "Anyways, we should head to the shuttle and take out one of the Stormtroopers for Sarah to wear." With Alex and Sarah agreeing, they started heading towards the imperial shuttle. After walking for a few minutes, the shuttle and a whole squad of stormtroopers came into sight. As they spied on the ship from the forest, they noticed many more stormtroopers than they had originally been prepared for. "Why are there so many of them?" Eli asked. "I don't know, didn't think things would be this tight," Alex replied. "But you and I can still walk up there, lure one of the stormtroopers away and take them out with Sarah." "I'll be in position when you guys are ready," Sarah replied. Eli and Axel approached the Stormtroopers and finally came within sight of them. But then Alex's feelings hit him harder than usual, and then Axel dove out of the way with Eli. They were dodging a large blast that would've hit them directly. Confused and panicking, Axel and Eli sprinted toward the shuttle. Right as another wave of blasts sent most of the stormtroopers flying. While inside the shuttle, Axel finally realized, "We forgot Sarah!" and as if she heard him say her name, they saw Sarah sprinting towards the shuttle as fast as she could. With the remaining Stormtroopers trying to shoot her down, she pulled her blaster and blasted each trooper from about ten feet away, one by one. She eventually made it to the ship just before another round of blasts hit the shuttle's ramp as it closed. Immediately, Alex took the cockpit with Sarah as his copilot. "You sure you know how to fly one of these things?" Sarah asked. "We're about to find out," Alex replied. Luckily, the shuttle was still in good shape, and it took off after a couple of tries to do so. Right as they thought they were home free, they had two problems. First was the massive Star Destroyer orbiting Mandalore. Next was the source of the blasts following them, a group of Mandalorians! As Eli pointed out, Sarah and Alex were even more shocked than ever. There were surviving Mandalorians, but why were they attacking them? Then Alex remembered they all had Imperial uniforms, so they probably didn't recognize them. Alex realized Sarah had Stormtrooper Armor on. She must have stolen it from one of the troopers caught in the blasts. Just as they thought they were in double the trouble, a swarm of T.I.E. fighters launched from the Star Destroyer, and an Imperial Navy officer's voice came from the ship's comm. "Are you all right? Where sending a T.I.E. squadron to aid you in your landing." Thinking within the moment, Alex knew they had no better chance than to land in the Star Destroyer, so he brought the shuttle in as the T.I.E. fighters chased away the Mandalorians. "Not goanna lie, this is not how I thought this would go," Sarah said. "In the heart of the enemy territory. This is not what I thought you had in mind when you wanted to take revenge on the Empire." "Me neither," Alex replied. "But at least it's something." At that moment, the ramp for the shuttle had been opened, and an Imperial officer walked in to aid them with any injuries they may have. "You guys all right? What happened out there?" the officer asked. Luckily everyone got out with only minor bruises and burns. "We're fine," Eli said. "As for what happened, we have no idea." The three of them were escorted to a medical room to treat their minor injuries, and as they were alone with no one besides them and the medical droids, they began to express their thoughts. "I can't believe there are more Mandalorians out there," Axel said. "I know, right," Eli replied. "So, what's your plan out of this, Alex?" "I don't know, but I think we should just stick to our roles, stick together and find a way out when we get a chance. Who knows, maybe we could uncover some valuable information here?" "Good point, but I still feel bad about this whole thing," Sarah replied. "But I guess we'll have to find out a plan together. For now, we should rest up. Conserve our energy for the fight that is yet to come." Everyone agreed, and a mouse droid escorted them to their quarters and began to lie down in their bunks. As they fell asleep, Axel could hear the faint whoosh of the ship entering hyperspace. One thing was for certain, they weren't in Mandalore anymore and wouldn't be going back for a long time.
