AN- There will be a couple of reference to stuff in my fist story Big Sister, but nothing too important.
Chapter 5 Meditation
Hunter shifted uneasily as he looked up at the Jedi, Shaak Ti. The Togruta stared down at him with an unreadable look. He had been summoned to the Jedi's meditation room that morning after breakfast. He knew that the Jedi General had said that they would try and help him but he wasn't sure how, and he had not expected it so soon.
Shaak Ti cocked her head to the side, and smiled. "I had wondered what had become of you."
Hunter blinked at her; he was a little shocked that she knew of him, he was just a clone after all. A Defective clone at that…
The Jedi stepped forwards and Hunter held himself still as she pushed his hair back from his face. "You seem to be in need of a hair cut…"
Hunter blushed as he ducked out of her reach, "I like it long." He said, even though his hair was always getting in the way he hated having it short.
Shaak Ti smiled and let the matter drop, "Obi-wan Kenobi spoke with me." She told him, "He seems to think you are in need of guidance."
"Yes General." Hunter still wasn't sure what the Jedi could teach him. It wasn't the magic they had, it want even something he could use really. It was just one big head ache or buzzing in the back of his mind. His sense of smell he could use, his enhanced hearing he could use, but what good was something that left him feeling weak and dizzy when it overwhelmed him?
"Master, I am a Jedi Master and not a general." She smiled, "Not in this instant to you at least." She cocked her head to the side and studied Hunter, "If I remember correctly you had a very strong gift even as a baby."
Hunter had always felt what he felt; he just didn't know how to turn it off. "How can you help me?" he asked, Clones weren't Jedi.
Shaak Ti nodded as she motioned to the floor that had a couple of mats in the center of the room. "Come sit with me." She said, "To fully understand your gifts, I need to connect with you."
Hunter frowned, "Like Reading my mind?"
"No, not as such," She said with amusement, "I will not hear your thoughts but I will get a sense of what you are facing." She sat down easily on the mat and motioned for him to take the seat across from her.
Hunter sat and rested his hands on his knees. "Okay, what do I do?"
"You need to clear your mind, block out any distractions." Shaak Ti told him, "Relax and breathe."
Hunter sighed but nodded and tried to mimic how the Jedi sat. Legs crossed under him, his back straight and his hands resting on his knees. Closing his eyes Hunter breathed deeply.
"From what Master Obi-wan has told me, I understand that it is not the Force you sense," Shaak Ti said, "But the electrical signature. EM fields."
"Yes." Hunter said, "I don't understand it sometimes, it can be overwhelming."
"Not so unlike the Force." Shaak Ti said, "Many things give of EMF, Droids, data pads, power grids, even the planet. You feel the energies of the world around you." A thoughtful look on her face, "Living beings also have an EMF," She told him and when he raised an eyebrow at her she chuckled.
"I …don't really …" Hunter bit his lip, how did he always know when someone was watching him? "How can you know it's not the force?" Hunter suddenly asked. It sounded too close to that Jedi magic that the older clones talked about, the ones that had gone off to serve with generals.
Shaak Ti nodded her head slowly, "You were tested as a newly decanted clone, and your midi-chlorian count was no higher than any other non-Jedi." She told him softly.
Hunter nodded his head slowly.
Shaak Ti smiled at him. "But that does not mean your own gifts are not remarkable in their own right." She told him. "You sense the world around you in a way no other can. Not even Jedi." She sighed softly, "But You cannot use what you feel, and you cannot change the energy to your own use…"
Hunter hadn't thought to even try, "No," He told her.
"But you see what Is and not what Can be." She nodded slowly, "You see the truth of what is around you, not the outcome of possibilities."
Hunter cocked his head to the side as he thought about it, "I guess." He said softly.
"Describe for me the room we are in." Shaak Ti said softly.
"Where do I start?" He asked her.
"Start by focusing on what you can sense the clearest." She told him.
Hunter closed his eyes, letting his senses tell him. "Your data pad is sitting on the table there," He lifted his hand pointing.
With his eyes closed Hunter knew he could have seen it before they had started. So he ignored it and moved on, "There is a slight power short in the right hand wall." He told her, "It's not enough to cause damage but it will fail soon." Hunter was good at feeling those; they felt like little tickles in the back of his neck.
He reached out and placed his hand on the floor, eyes still closed he frowned. "There is a hidden compartment under the floor, two feet from your left." A frown creased his brow, "Something's in there, powerful but…" He frowned, "It's sleeping."
"Sleeping?" Shaak Ti nodded, "Your senses tell you so much."
Hunter opened his eyes as she reached out with not just her hand but the Force, the compartment opened and the light-sabre floated into her hand.
Eyes wide, Hunter watched as the Light-sabre came to rest in her hand.
"What did you feel just now?" She asked, "When I use the force what do you sense?"
Hunter frowned as he tried to put into words what it felt like, "I'm not sure," He said, "It wasn't like electricity. I almost couldn't tell if my eyes hadn't been open."
"Young Jedi will hear singing, vibrations." She told him.
"It wasn't like that." Hunter sighed, "It was, like when you stand in water and a gentle wave comes in." He shook his head, "Dose that make sense?"
"I think it is how your brain is telling you to identify something unknown to you." She told him. "You will have to learn to separate what your senses tell you and what it means in relation to the physical world."
Slowly Hunter nodded his head, "Okay, What next?"
"The halls outside the room," She told him, "See them, understand them, walk them in your mind's eye and tell me what you see."
Hunter struggled to put to words what his senses were telling him. It wasn't a full picture in his mind, but he could 'see' the power running through the walls and the floors where it stopped and where it gathered. As he described it, the image grew clearer in his mind. So much so, that he could tell where rooms were being used or empty. He also sensed the signatures of droids as they worked with the scientists and medical staff.
Hunter tried to relay this to Shaak Ti, but his words were halting, confused at times as his mind became aware of other droids, some so small that he didn't know what they were at first.
It took most of his concentration but he was able to finally understand after a moment.
"An implant," He said blinking his eyes open, "I sensed a medical implant in a person." They couldn't be a clone, clones in need of an implant like that would have been decomitioned.
"You see much detail with your gifts." Shaak Ti told him with a smile. "What does the implant do?"
"I think," He felt the tiny electrical pulls form the implant every few seconds, not powerful, like someone was tapping the back of his hand. "I think it's a pacemaker," He said.
"Impressive." Shaak Ti smiled. "Do you sense the living people here?"
Hunter closed his eyes again and focused. He could feel the energies around him, the electronics were very loud or bright in his mind, the power that everything gave off seemed to blind him to the less obtrusive feeling of people.
He could almost sense them, the people, but it was harder to focus. Hunter had to push out the other distractions. It was like trying to hear one note in a symphony…
"It's hard… but," He shook his head and sighed, "Maybe, but I can't feel them as easily as the droids."
"How far do your senses reach?" Shaak Ti asked her head cocked to the side
"I don't know." Hunter said admitted.
"See how far you can go." Shaak Ti told him.
"I feel power cables, under the city; they reach out for miles…" Hunter scrunched his face up, "I don't know how far they go."
"Follow them."
Hunter did as she asked, following the cables out of Tapoca city. "There's another city." Hunter blinked and pinched the bridge of his nose. He was getting a head ache but he knew there was more out there.
"That would be Timira city." Shaak Ti told him.
Hunter wondered briefly how she knew the city he was looking at. He knew there was more to see, but his head was starting to ache.
"Pull back Hunter." Shakk Ti told him softly.
Hunter pressed a hand against his eyes and sucked in his breath. He felt like everything was pressing in on him. Bombarding him with information his brain did not understand.
"Breathe," She whispered, "Come back to yourself, you are here with me. As you had opened your minds eyes to see, you must now 'close' your senses."
Hunter wasn't sure how to do as she asked but he tried to pull back, to ignore what he felt far out in the ocean. He lowered his hands form his face, blinking. He had never reached out that far before, he could still sense the other city but it was like background noise.
He let out a shaky breath and looked at the Jedi. "I never reached out that far before." He said.
Shaak Ti smiled, "You have a strong gift." She told him. "You skill will only refine as you use it more."
Hunter nodded his head and breathed out another sigh. "I thought I could sense people but I wasn't sure, the rest of the city…" He shook his head, "It's like it was a shroud over what I was trying to look at."
"You could see much, even this far from the other city." She told him and Hunter raised an eyebrow. Shaak Ti smiled. "I did not read your mind but followed your 'senses' as you reached out." She told him.
"Do you think I could reach further?"
She smiled gently at him. "You felt the power of a coronal mass ejection Hunter. I believe you will be able to sense any building or electrical grid on a planet wide scale." She sighed, "But that will also leave you vulnerable."
Hunter remembered how he passed out and nodded. "I know…"
"We will work on trying to shield your senses but I do not know if we will be successful." She sighed.
"Why not?"
"I am a Jedi, I can only tell you what I know of the force, and it is not the same as your gifts although there seems to be similarities." She sighed softly "I can only guide you in this Hunter; it is up to you to teach yourself what you need to learn."
Hunter nodded his head.
"I would like to see you again, Hunter." She told him. "I understand, you are trying to get reinstated as a cadet, your efforts to utilize your skills will go a long way to doing that." She cocked her head to the side, "But I make no promises."
Hunter felt tightness in his chest but nodded.
"Now, I believe you are late for a previous engagement." She smiled as he blinked at her. "Your brothers are waiting are they not?"
"I -yes they are." He was going to be late.
Shaak Ti smiled. "Go and enjoy your lunch with your brothers." She told him. "I am glad you found your batch brothers again…"
Hunter was stunned for a moment as he considered the Jedi's words.
Shaak Ti merely smiled at him. "You do not want to keep them waiting."
Blushing Hunter scrambled to his feet. "Thank you Master Shaak Ti."
The Jedi offered him a small bow of the head. Hunter, a clone cadet (formerly) had been taught to salute and felt embarrassed as he was caught between a salute and a bow, which only amused the Jedi.
The wind whipped through Hunters hair as he climbed the ladder up to the top of the dome. He had forgone getting lunch since the three were already there waiting for him. He would just have to remember to get a snack latter.
"Took you long enough," He heard Crosshairs comment before he could see him.
Hunter pulled himself up onto the platform and pulled his hair from his face as the wind whipped it around.
"Sorry, sorry," he said, "I had to meet with General-um, Master Shaak Ti." He told the three as he moved to sit next to them.
Crosshair was sitting with his legs dangling over the side of the platform, Tech was sitting beside him but with his legs crossed under him and a data pad in his hand. Wrecker was sitting in the exact middle of the platform looking nervously over the sides.
"Why did she want to see you?" Tech asked looking up from his data pad. "As I understand it she is responsible for overseeing all the Clones."
"Yeah, I guess she wants to help me." He said as his hair whipped around his face again. He liked his long hair but it could be a pain.
"You're not saying something." Crosshair smirked.
"She knew me, or at least she knew of me," Hunter told them, "She knew of …my skills." He bit his lip, "She also seemed to know we are brothers, from the same Batch."
"That makes sense," Tech said, "We are only talking about a few years ago, even if we do not remember the time of our infancy, others would."
"Yeah I guess," Hunter said.
"Why would they …?" Wrecker asked struggling with being up so high.
"Separate us?" Hunter asked after it was clear the silence was not all that voluntary.
"Our CT-Numbers are sequential." Tech said, "It is probable we were separated into our age groups with other cadets to keep track of our growth."
Hunter frowned. "So you don't think your fist theory of us just being in other batches and given the 99 designation is right?"
Tech adjusted his goggles, "As more information is gathered one must adapted." He said, "They could still have done that but it sounds like we were together before being separated into our age groups. Or they just wanted to see how well we interacted with others not of the same mutations." Tech looked down at his data pad again.
"Or they were just Dicks." Crosshair said with a huff.
Wrecker gave a laugh; it was loud but filled more with nervous energy then actual amusement.
"Anyway," Hunter said, "I also got to talk to Jedi General Obi-wan and I think they are gonna try and get us back on a team." He reached up and grabbed a hand full of his hair pulling it back from his face and holding it there. "It might take a while though."
Crosshair eyed him with his long hair but didn't say anything. The rest of them had short hair and didn't have the same problem.
"So what is your plan?" Tech asked. If he was to be believed, Tech could easily slice into and files and set it up. But they had kind of nicked that plan because there was the possibility that they would be caught.
Hunter breathed in the salty air and let out a sigh, "I think we need to set up times to train together." He told them. "Form a team, work on it and show everyone that we can work as a team."
Crosshair cocked his head to the side. "There is no guarantee."
"No, you're right," Hunter said, "But what else can we do?"
"I can slice-"Tech started to say.
"No." Hunter bit his lip, "At least, not yet." He didn't like the idea.
There was too much that could go wrong. Just because Tech was able to put it in the files others might grow wise to them.
"We're going to need somewhere to train," Wrecker said.
"I think I can find a place." Hunter told them, "What about time? When are you guys free?"
"Meal times, and after hours," Tech told him. "I can push the times but only by so much…"
"What about equipment?" Crosshair asked.
Hunter rubbed his chin thinking. "I can probably get us something." He told them. "But I might need Ninty-nine's help." He smiled as he remembered the old man. "I think Ninty-nine helped take care of us but I don't really remember, do any of you?"
Crosshair shook his head; Wrecker cocked his head to the side and scrunched up his face. Tech raised a brow for a moment then began typing on his data pad.
Hunter sighed softly, disappointed but knew it was a long shot.
Tech didn't gasp but Hunter almost felt the excitement rolling off the other clone.
"I found something, but I don't think it has anything to do with Ninty-nine." Tech said and held out his data pad to them. "I cross referenced a few key words and found this."
"What kind of key words?" Hunter asked.
"Our birth year, CT numbers, as well as words like Development, experimental, Enhancements and so forth."
The four clones huddled around data pad and watched as the image of two very young clones appeared. The one with a mop of dark hair held a baby in their lap. The baby had a wisp of silver white hair, and was sucking on a soother.
The three young clone brothers looked up from the image to Crosshair; he was the only one with that colour hair.
Crosshair raised a brow at them before glowering at them.
Without saying anything they turned back to the image as it began to play.
"What's he doing Hunter?" a young clone voice asked form off screen.
Young Hunter in the image smiled as he hugged the baby Crosshair before he held up a brightly coloured ball. The image panned to the side and they saw a young but still big clone that had to be Wrecker setting up stacks of blocks.
The image shook and fell before it was steadied, "Easy there, Tech." The unknown voice said with a laugh. "We wanna show what 9904 can do right? We got to keep it steady."
The image panned back to Hunter and Crosshair, Hunter still held the ball but Crosshair was reaching for it. The image panned out so they could see both the young clones and the stacked up blocks.
"Okay Hunter, we are ready." The voice said, "Give your brother the ball."
Hunter nodded his head and handed the baby (9904/ Crosshair), the ball. Crosshair threw the ball; it bounced once before hitting one stack of blocks. The blocks fell over and Wrecker rolled the ball back to Hunter, who picked it up and handed it back to Crosshair, who would then throw it again.
The video went on like that until all the blocks were knocked over. Then just because apparently he could, the baby Crosshair threw the ball once more and it bounced off of Wreckers head.
This amused young Crosshair, annoyed Wrecker and whoever it was holding the data pad dropped it as they rushed to Wreckers side.
"Oh! Wrecker, it's okay!" the voice of the young clone tried to sooth the big boy who's face scrunched up ready to cry, "Your okay!"
The data pad landed camera up and all they could see was baby Tech's face form the odd angle looking down at the screen.
"So it's true." Wrecker said.
"It would seem so." Tech said picking up his data pad.
"Why can't I remember it?" Wrecker asked.
"Maybe you were hit in the head too many times." Crosshair smirked.
Wrecker rubbed the back of his head but shrugged, "Maybe."
"Well that was clearly Hunter," Tech said, "They used your name."
"I did notice that, they used yours and Wreckers name too," Hunter said, "But they called Crosshair 9904," He looked at the silver haired clone, "You weren't named yet."
"He looked so cute sucking on a soother," Wrecker chuckled.
"Yeah, what happened?" Hunter smirked, just a little as Crosshair shoved him a little.
Tech's lips twitched, "Well, what I want to know is who that other clone was." He said.
Hunter shack his head, "I don't know…" He only had a vague memory of that time, "Maybe a caretaker?"
"That young?"
Tech adjusted his goggles, "Maybe they are the ones that took Wrecker to the medical wing." He said. "But there are no other CT Numbers listed in connection with the image." Tech told them as he went through the data, "Only ours."
"Does it matter?" Crosshair asked, "If they were a clone brother, then they are long gone by now." He huffed, "Sides this doesn't help us with forming a squad."
Hunter nodded his head, he was curious but he knew they had more important things to do. "Right," He said looking back at the three of them. "We need to find a place to train, and then we can work out how to get gear and when to train together."
"It would make sense to use one of the training rooms." Tech said, "After hours…" He frowned and began typing on his data pad. "There is a smaller training room." He said, "It's not actually being used because it is slated to be retrofitted." He looked up at them. "I think that would be the best bet."
"What if it's all torn apart?" Wrecker asked.
"Real life hazards," Crosshair smirked.
"Actually nothings been done yet, I can push the start date back…" Tech looked up at them. "How long do you wish me to push it back?"
Hunter scratched his chin, "Give it a month." He said, "I would like to go there each night but I think we might end up sleep deprived."
"Every seconded night?" Tech asked, "Or Third?"
"I can probably get there at any time, it's you three who have to still deal with your teams." Hunter said with a touch of envy.
Crosshair snorted, he wasn't on a team anymore but his skills were still desirable to be a cadet. But he had classes with instructors.
"Well you two then." Hunter looked at Tech and Wrecker.
"I think we can do it every seconded night." Tech said, "My 'Team' is comprised of other data analyses and we're stuck in the labs all day…"
Wrecker grinned, "I can go any time anywhere." He said.
"You think you can get gear for us?" Crosshair asked Hunter.
"Yeah, it might be tricky but I think I can get Ninty-nine to help me," He scratched his chin, "Or at least look the other way. What do you need?"
Crosshair grinned, "Sniper rifle if you can." He told Hunter, "If not, then blasters will have to do."
Hunter nodded and looked at the other two.
"Two blasters," Tech said, "I'm ambidextrous, so I use booth hands."
"Hey so do I." Wrecker grinned, as he mimicked punching an enemy.
"At the same time, independently," Tech clarified. "I also would like a portable tool kit, but I might be able to sneak one out of the holo-lab."
The three looked at the goggled cadet.
Tech adjusted his goggles, "Not only do they teach us about coding, but we also learn how to build our own systems, as well as how to repair them."
"Ah." Hunter said and smiled. "That's handy."
"Yes, of course it is." Tech said, "I can probably slice into or repair anything in the city. And if I don't know how, I can figure it out."
Hunter nodded and looked to Wrecker.
"Blasters, and a vibro-blade," The big clone cadet grinned.
Hunter nodded his head then cocked it to the side, "A Vibro-blade?"
"Yeah it's great for close combat," Wrecker said with a grin. "The instructor suggested it since I have a habit of running into the mess of droids." He laughed loudly.
Hunter nodded his head as he thought about fighting in close quarters with a droid. He always knew where they were in relationship to him; would that be easier than trying to shoot with a blaster? Due to his enhancements he didn't like handling blasters that much. Like everything else it messed with his senses.
"What about targets?" Tech said.
Hunter looked at them. "Until we know how to work together I want us to train against each other. Find out our strengths and weakness before introducing a droid."
"Makes sense," Tech said.
"Hey you're good at that." Wrecker said with a grin.
Hunter blinked. "Good at what?"
"Planning, leading." Wrecker said, "Guess you would be since you're the oldest."
"That does not always correlate, Wrecker," Tech said. "But I agree with Wreckers assessment, you are a natural leader."
Hunter blushed rubbing the back of his head. "Well, maybe I'm just more motivated." He said as he tugged at the blue gray jumper of the maintenance staff.
His hair whipped around again in the wind. Crosshair snorted and ripped a strip of cloth form the hem of his red shirt.
"Better do something with that hair." He said.
Hunter blinked at him and looked at the scrap of cloth.
"It's a bandana, put it on," Crosshair huffed.
Hunter took the bandana and tried to tame his hair while trying it back. Crosshair snorted and snatched the strip of cloth form Hunter and moved behind the shorter clone. With Hunter holding his hair in place Crosshair tied the makeshift bandana around his forehead.
"There," Crosshair said, "Now you got the cadet colors again, unofficial."
Hunter smiled at him but the sharp shooter rolled his eyes. Hunter didn't mind though, Crosshair might not be good with words but his actions were clear.
"All right," Hunter said, "We should probably get back to where we are supposed to be, I want to check out that training room tonight."
Tech nodded his head. "Lunch is almost over anyway."
Speaking of lunch, Hunters stomach growled. He blushed a little, "Right, I need to grab something before it's all gone."
"Oh! Here," Wrecker pulled a protein bar out of his pocket and passed it to it to Hunter.
Hunter smiled. "Thanks."
Wrecker grinned. "No problem."
Hunter bit into the protein bar as the wind wiped around them, his hair stayed in place by the strip of red fabric. He couldn't help but feel like this was probably the best moment in his short life, sitting among his brothers, planning the next steps.
It felt like he had a purpose again, Hunter would do everything he could to get them to be a team together.
TBC…
AN-Aw Crosshair gave Hunter his Bandana, he dose care, in his own condescending way.
Okay so I tried to describe Hunters EMS in a way that was not be all woo woo Jedi lol. And I figure it would be something he would have to train with, like anything. Cuss seriously; if he could feel the EM of the whole planet as a kid it would be terrifying. It was hard to describe, hopefully I did all right.
Anyway, Up next Hunter and the boys sneak in to a training room and test each other's skills.
