I DO NOT OWN THE SELECTION SERIES. SHOUTOUT TO ABIZEAU FOR CREATING THESE CHARACTERS.

Jessica Quinn Woods was in her apartment, studying for her final exam. If you could take a look at her in her current state, you know that she was on the verge of burnout. Jessica didn't like to admit it, but she knew that she worked way too much. To be fair though, being a Med student was twice as hard as being a regular student. You had to push yourself to the point of utter exhaustion if you intended to get certified.
If the heart surgeon in training from Sumner was being honest, that was the only reason that she even wanted to be in the selection. Jessica was ready to admit to herself that she needed a vacation. What better way to get some rest and relaxation then by living the life of a royal to be? Besides, Sybil was attractive which didn't hurt.
Eventually, Jessica's study session came to an end when her 2 best friends barged into her apartment.
"Hey girl, has it started yet?" Shiva Chabrakki inquired as she gave her gal pal a hug.
"The announcement doesn't start for 2 more minutes." Jessica pointed out.
"We just wanted to be here to support you, no matter what happens." Louis McKenzie added as he gave Jessica's hand a squeeze.
"Even if I don't get selected, we can still go backpacking through Europe." Jessica promised, earning a grin from Louis.
"That would be epic." Louis said, enjoying the idea of him and Jessica together on the adventure of a lifetime.
"Shh, you guys, it's on!" Shiva exclaimed as the Illèan national anthem began to play on the tv and Crown Princess Sybil was shown, sitting on a couch in a Violet colored gown.
"My fellow Illèans, I was so glad to receive all of your applications and after careful review, I have narrowed it down to thirty five candidates." Sybil said as she began to read off the list.
"Come on, give my girl her vay-cay." Shiva said anxiously as Sybil went through the list until she got to Waverly.
"From the province of Waverly, Jessica Woods." Sybil recited as Shiva was so excited for her friend.
"Damn girl, you're going to be dating a royal!" She exclaimed, wrapping her friend in a hug.
"I'm just happy for a vacation." Jessica said as she looked to Louis who had a smile plastered on his face that seemed just a bit forced.
Buffalo, Province of Waverly. Kingdom of Illèa. The same day.
Zander Michael Radley got off of the track and instantly made a beeline for the cooler. As he pulled out a bottle of ice cold water, he was glad to have gotten his mind off things by running a mile on the track. The selected would be announced today and Zander needed to get a spot. He wasn't concerned about looking for love, he just needed the money that came with the selection and he wasn't ashamed to admit it.
His brother David needed the cash badly. Ever since the car accident, he wasn't the same person that he had been before. He could play violin, he couldn't move without a wheelchair. The prize money that Zander got from his races helped, but if Zander could at least make it to the Elite, he could save up enough money to clear all the debt brought on by the hospital bills and get proper help for his brother.
After he had taken a shower and changed out of his sweaty clothes into clothes that were not sweaty, Zander left the track; only to see his brother approaching him in his wheelchair.
"David, what are you doing here?" Zander asked as he knelt down by the wheelchair.
"Dad sent me, he was watching the announcement at the garage and you got picked!" Zander's brother exclaimed with an excitement he had not seen since the car accident that cost him the life he'd once had.
"You shitting me?" Zander asked in shock.
"Bro, you think I would shit with you about something like this?" David asked in return as Zander stood up and pumped his fist in the air as a sign of victory.
"This is going to be really good for us bro, I promise!" Zander promised as he walked along with his brother. He didn't want his brother to know that he was doing this solely for him, he didn't need to feel like a burden; but the truth was that Zander would go to the ends of the Earth for his brother.
