Coming Home

The seireitei was quiet today. Shunsui was walking back to his room now in the first division barrack. 10 years after the war with Yhwach, he still was not used to being the new Head Captain.

"Head Captain!" Shunsui heard someone yell behind him. He glanced over his right shoulder and saw Nanao running up to him. Shunsui sighed and dropped his head, 'what now… I'm pretty sure I haven't done anything that she needs to yell at me about yet.'

Shunsui turned and smiled at Nanao once she flash-stepped closer to him "Nanao! Lovely to see you, please tell me you brought the sake?" The look on her face and watching her eyebrow twitch made him change his tone quickly. "Never mind that… what's the rush?

"Sir – you have a call… from the Royal Guard headquarters." Nanao fixed her glasses and smiled at her captain. "She's looking for you." Nanao had never seen a brighter smile appear on her captains face as just then, he flash stepped away so quickly it took her a moment to register he had left. "I guess that got his mind off the sake…"

'He had better not be getting Sake…. I swear if he is making me wait so he can have his drink while we talk I'm going to kill him….' Finally the screen in front of her beeped and flicked on. The face of Shunsui appeared with the usual smug bright grin that he has every time he gets on a call.

"Kimura! I haven't heard from you in what seems like ages, how are you? How is the royal guard?" Shunsui threw out so many questions at once that Kimura hardly had a chance to process anything. He barely noticed her roll her eyes as he kept on asking questions.

"Father… please let me answer some questions before you start asking more." Kimura said as she laughed at her father. Shunsui stopped talking and blushed a bit but continued to smile through the screen. "The royal guard is fine father, that's what I wanted to speak to you about… since the defeat of Yhwach, there is no longer a danger for me… I want to come home."

Shunsui gasped and stared at his daughter through the screen, Nanao who has just entered the room gasped as well, but smiled at Kimura for her determination and telling Shunsui exactly what she wanted to do. She had supported the decision to have Kimura sent to the Royal guard to keep her safe from the ones hunting her, but missed her none the less. Nanao glanced at her captain and watched the emotions cross his face.

Shunsui's face went blank as he closed his eyes, processing what his daughter had just said. 'Humm, I under stand her wanting to come home, but a part of em still feels like someone is hunting her, but I know I cannot shelter her forever.' Shunsui opened his eyes and looked at his daughter, albeit not biological but his daughter none the less, her bright red hair and tanned complexion matched her hazel eyes perfectly. 'She truly turned into a beauty.'

"I see…. Well daughter, if coming home is what you wish – than coming home you shall. I will make preparations for your return, though I feel you might be bored her. Perhaps I can find you a place among my squad.." Shunsui put his chin in his hand thinking what seat he could place her at. Suddenly he saw his daughters eye twitch and stared blinking his eyes. "gheez…. She looks as scary as Nanao when shes annoyed with me.'

"Absolutely not father…. You will not place me in the same squad as you." Kimura sighed and dropped her head. "Please father, I have been a member of the Royal Guard for so many years I lost count, let me grow within the 13 court squads." Kimura's pleading eyes broke her father and he just signed but nodded his head. "Oh thank you! I will be home soon!"

Suddenly the screen went blank and Shunsui turned his head to look at Nanao who was smiling at him. "I am proud of you, you agreed with her faster than you usually would Captain." Nanao walked closer to her captain who started to stand.

"Well…. I didn't really have much choice did i? Her argument wasn't wrong, she is very capable." Shunsui stopped talking and closed his eyes as he breathed in. "I just cannot shake the feeling that she is not out of danger. Nanao – what are the open seats within the squads?" Shunsui started walking out of the telecommunications room, knowing that Nanao would start following him.

"Well sir… if I could suggest – Squad 10's 3rd seat has yet to be filled. Captain Hitsugaya has not had the opportunity to look at candidates yet, I believe the last time I discussed it with him he said ' he will have time to look at candidates once he catches up on all the paperwork that Lieutenant Matsumoto has decided to ignore'." Nanao tapped her chin with her pen remembering the conversation she had with the white haired captain.

Shunsui suddenly stopped processing what Nanao had just said. 'Squad 10 huh…. Not the worst idea. Captain Hitsugaya would be the optimal choice for Kimura to be around.' Shunsui suddenly turned around smiling at Nanao. "That is an excellent suggestion Nanao! Call Captain Hitsugaya to my office" Shunsui flash stepped away and left Nanao there just blinking at the space he previously occupied.
