Getting ready for the wedding is no piece of cake, (literally) as Sapphire helps me sew up a wedding dress and take care of the food. Though Cat and Orion are busy too, but they tell us its supposed to be a surprise. I'm fine with it, as long as it keeps my soon-to-be-husband out of trouble.
"Are excited to be married, Marinette?" Sapphire asks as she sews on a seed pearl. "Yes. It will be nice not to have say goodbye at the end of every night. Even when we were younger and on patrol, it was the hardest thing to do." "I'm so happy for you and Adrien. Your a perfect match for each other." I blush and look down. "Are you planning on having kids right away?" she asks. "Such questions!" I laugh. "I do want kids, but I think we'll wait for a bit. After all, we just finished a big adventure and I'm ready to relax for a bit." Sapphire gives me a funny look before bursting into giggles and I give her a curious look. "What?" "In all the time I've known you, Marinette, your always on the go!"
"I used to be on the last ones to class in high school, I liked sleeping in."
Orion and Cat come in, and Cat is clutching at his stomach. I put down my needle and thread, jumping up. "Cat, are you ill?" "No, but I am a starving kitten and will faint away from hunger if I don't eat soon."
I bounce up on tiptoes to kiss him, a grin on my face. "Yeah, but if you faint, I won't have to hear any puns." Cat's mouth drops open with mock shock and I hold up my hands. "Kidding! Only kidding! I'll start that right away."
I look at Orion and Sapphire. "You two want to stay for dinner?" Orion winks at Sapphire, and slings an arm around Cat. "Well, I won't turn down your offer, as I might faint away and Sapphire would have to drag me across the sand." I smile sweetly then glare at Cat. "Great, next you'll be teaching him cat puns."
I make corn chowder and freshly baked bread and salad for dinner, and we all sit down to dinner like a family. There are several abandoned cabins on the island and we all come together at mealtimes.
A chorus of mmms comes from the end of the table, and Orion claims that its one of the best soups he's ever tasted. "You'll have to teach me how to cook and bake, Marinette, or he'll waste away to nothing." "I'd be glad to."
"So, is the garden set up yet?" I ask, slicing myself another slice of bread. "It should be ready tomorrow, but your supposed to thinking of your wedding!" "I know, but I'm just ready for normal life with normal chores." Cat raises his spoon to his lips, "M'lady, have I ever been normal?" "No, but I love you just the way you are."
Its hard to see everyone leave, but they'll be back in the morning, and soon I won't be alone at all. Orion and Cat informed me that as soon as the surprise is ready, we can proceed with the wedding.
I feel a slight jolt of nerves as even if we invited only family and close friends, everyone will be staring at me and without my suit, I'm still clumsy. Goodness, even thinking about walking down the aisle makes my palms sweat.
I've started to knit some baby clothes and diapers, even if its still aways down the road. It staves off my lonesomeness at night, and I love my cup of tea just before bed to help me sleep.
The next few days are a whirlwind of cleaning, sewing, and cooking, but finally my wedding day arrives. Felix and Grandma Pyo arrive with Kagami, and I feel a small twinge of sadness my parents can't be here.
"You look so beautiful," Sapphire says, as she brushes out my long hair which is now at my waist and curly at the ends. "I'll be beautiful until I trip and get a mouthful of sand." "Felix won't let that happen and neither will I." She says this with such fierce determination that I laugh and my nerves dissolve.
I step out and Felix is waiting to walk me down the aisle. Luckily, Felix thought to bring his Ipod, so I have Canon in D to walk to.
He's wearing his suit as Argos and I slip my arm through his whispering, "You look hot in the suit," he grins. "Well, thank you." I roll my eyes and groan softly. "Not that kind of hot you goof! This is a tropical island and your wearing long sleeves!" "I'll be short sleeves soon!" "Why, is there going to be a luau later?"
We banter like brother and sister, which we basically are, until I catch sight of Adrien and the rest of the world goes fuzzy.
"You look beautiful," Adrien whispers as he takes my hand, and when we intertwine our fingers I feel like I'm come home.
The ceremony is short and before I blink its time to say the vows. "I Meow," Adrien says, loud and clear and I have to force myself not to roll my eyes. "Its not, I meow, its I do!"
Oh, well. We're told to kiss and we don't have to told twice to do that. We keep it short and sweet, and Adrien turns me to walk back down the aisle. A permanent glowing smile has spread onto my face and I change into a purple lilac dress. Thank goodness the material is light, for I want to dance, but Cat leads me over to a feast.
We eat our delicious meal of chicken, green beans and mashed potatoes as our friends and family give speeches.
"And here's your cake!" Grandma Pyo approaches our table with a delectable chocolate cake. Kagami is taking pictures and I think my perma-grin actually grows wider as we slice the cake.
"I can't eat another bite," I tell Adrien later, setting down my fork. When our food settles, we have our first dance out on the dance floor.
I feel as if I'm living in some wonderful dream, and I can't believe this incredible kind man is mine. The piece that is a beautiful classical piece suddenly cuts off to Hawaiian music. Felix shrugs and grins at us. "Hey, I did say there might be a luau!"
When I feel like I can't dance anymore, I whisper to Adrien that I'm ready to turn in. He gives Felix a signal, and he turns me to face the crowd and gives a little speech.
"Thank you for everyone who came today, and supporting us throughout our journey. I've loved Marinette from the first time I laid eyes on her, and I can't wait to see what the future brings!"
Applause ripples through the crowd and Adrien and I walk across the sand towards one of cabins. "Ready for your big surprise?" My heart starts beating fast from excitement and nerves. "Ready!" "Okay, give me just a moment and close your eyes."
I hear the squeak of the door and a sudden soft brightness. Then I feel myself being lifted into the air. "Wha?" "As your husband, aren't I supposed to carry you across the threshold?" Keeping my eyes closed, I lay my head against his chest. "Husband. I like the sound of that." "Yeah, but I'll be back to being a fur ball in the morning, won't I?"
Adrien's question is forgotten as I open my eyes and gasp with delight. The cabin is finished, and a brand new weaving loom sits in the corner. "Adrien? How-when, Oh!"
"Well, the Miraculous certainly helped for I don't think they have weaving looms on the island." "I've always wanted one of these, but there wasn't any room when I was younger. Oh, love, thank you!"
I give Adrien a long kiss and I feel much more relaxed that no one is staring at me.
Sometime during the night…..
"Adrien! Adrien!" Snore. "That's it!" I whack him with my pillow and sits up, confused. "What time is it?" "Time to stop snoring. Keep it down or meow or something." Adrien's eyes gleam in the darkness. "So, you like meowing, huh?"
Soon, he's fast asleep again, but this time meowing. "Arrgh!" Adrien laughs with his eyes closed and I whack him again. "I thought you were asleep!" After a bit of banter, we cuddling and we drop off again quickly, snores not included.
In the morning, I get up first, and tendering plant a kiss on Adrien's head. He's been working so hard lately, so he deserves a break.
Besides, I know what will get him out of bed: Pancakes and coffee. I'm setting the syrup on the table when he comes in bare-chested and yawning. "Oh, good morning, sleepy. I'll have your breakfast ready in the moment." "Could you keep it warm for five? I need to shower?" I give him a mock gasp. "What? You mean to tell me that you don't wake up looking perfect in the morning?" I give his cheek a kiss. "I wish."
Orion and Sapphire show up just as Adrien sits down and Orion says the garden is ready for planting. Then gives me a big packages and something is rattling around inside. Curious, I tear off the paper and find a big apron with pockets and lots of packages of seeds. Orion explains that the pockets are for the seeds and he'll show me how to sprinkle them.
I love being out in the garden and digging in the dirt. We all get into planting and I whisper to Sapphire, "Watch this." "Hey, Adrien, love?" "Yes?" "Won't it be great when we can harvest and I can feed you veggies all the time?" "Orion, what have done?" Adrien wails and takes off. I should go after him, but first I have to stop laughing so hard.
