Chapter 21
Remy's POV
Another successful blood drive is in the Rangeman books. The wonderful Blood Center folks set up in our first floor conference rooms. They are so organized. They collected 32 units of blood from employees and contract workers. I got to run from recliner to recliner and check on my peeps. The guys know I love the peanut butter dog treats that Ella makes for me. Manny sneaked me a Nutter Butter from the cookie tray. Oh, wow - Manny is my new bff!
Mom asked Dad Diesel if his blood was like the rest of ours and if he could donate. Seems like his answer was itmaybebasedoncopperandnotiron. Probably not, then.
What can I say about the Blessing of the Animals? It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Mom, Hal and Woody took me and my homeboys in a Rangeman SUV. Hal and Woody both grew up on farms. Mom's Man claimed he had to stay in the penthouse and alphabetize the contents of the refrigerator, followed by organizing his sock drawer. Pffft. Rex and Freddy were in their carriers. Tank brought his new kitty, Sylvia - she's the one I found in the Rangeman yard. Tank says he is only fostering her - ha, foster fail! Tank also showed me an Internet image on his phone of a cat playing on an iPad while sitting in its yurt. Spoiled, much?
My ears perked up when a small trailer backed up and four little goats got away from their handler and escaped. Three of them headed for a patch of weeds behind the church and made pretty quick work of it. The other one grabbed onto the priest's cassock and started chewing. Mom said "herd" so I took off for the field and herded them back to where we were supposed to line up. I am the Rem-Meister, after all. Hal and Woody both ended up with goats under each arm.
Now a ferret and its owner are next to Tank and Sylvia. I'll never be able to capture it if it escapes - they are practically boneless and can get anywhere! Oh great, a hedgehog got too close to a little girl holding a balloon. That did not end well and the little girl is crying about her popped balloon. I let her pet me. And I licked her face. She's all better now.
Most of the animals here are cats, dogs, rabbits and pocket pets like Rex, at least until a tall trailer from the petting zoo pulled up and two emus and a soccer ball were unloaded. A soccer match broke out with several kids participating. I didn't know that emus liked to play soccer but they do. They are pretty good - they can run really fast with their long legs. Speaking of larger than average birds, my Rangeguys also told me about a woman who wasn't allowed to board an airplane with her emotional support peacock.
Order was finally restored (Tank whistled) and the priest blessed all of us, including some goldfish in their fishbowl. I'd really like to do this again - Mom's Man doesn't know what he missed, or maybe he does.
A/N Your reviews are greatly appreciated! Cat playing with an iPad while sitting in a yurt was found on the Internet. Soccer-playing emus were found in Internet news stories from Texas and Australia. The emotional support peacock incident happened in New Jersey.
