Chapter 4: Earning Respect

Agent BM: You got that right

Now that Bessie and her friends were onto Kevin's plan, they decided they needed a plan of their own.

"So what should we do?" asked Liam.

"Well first we have to let him see that I'm not easy to win over." Bessie said.

"Good idea." Lincoln told her.

"This is gonna be good." Stella giggled.

When classes were over, Kevin found Bessie.

"Hey, Bessie how you doing?" he asked her.

"Actually Kevin, I'm a little tired. Would you mind helping me?" Bessie requested.

"Of course I can. Just say it."

"First, can you wheel me to my locker?"

"You got it."

Kevin grabbed a hold of her wheelchair handles, and wheeled her down the hall. Upon getting to her locker, Bessie unlocked it, and then asked Kevin to get her books for her.

While Kevin felt this was really lame, but he had to make a good impression on Bessie, so he did it. After she put the books in her backpack, and asked Kevin to wheel her outside. And so Kevin grabbed the handles again, and pushed her down the hallway.

Then another idea came to Bessie's mind. She used to ask her parents to do this when she was younger.

"Push me faster." she told him.

"Excuse me?"

"Push me faster."

"Okay."

And with that, Kevin started pushing her faster through the school. Outside, Bessie saw her mom's car.

"Well there's my ride. Bye Kevin." Bessie said, and she wheeled off.

Kevin then sighed a little exasperated.

That night, Bessie called her friends and told them about what she did.

"Good move, Bessie." complimented Lincoln.

"What are you gonna do next?" asked Zack.

"I'm not sure, but it has to be something good."

Just then, Baxter walked into the room. As Bessie saw her pet, she suddenly got an idea.

"You know guys, I think I got an idea."

The following day, Bessie was wheeling down the hallway to her class. When she got there, she was about to open the door when Kevin appeared and opened it for her.

"Thanks, Kevin." she told him, and she rolled herself inside.

Kevin also had this class, so he followed after her. During the class, Kevin kept giving Bessie glimpses trying to let her know he was a nice, friendly guy. When class was over, Bessie went over to him.

"Hey Kevin, do you have anything planned on Saturday?"

"No."

"Then would you like to come to the park, I'm going to be there."

"Great, what time should I be there?"

"Be there around noon."

"I'll be there."

Then he went to his next class. Then Bessie went to her friends, and told them her plan.

"That sounds like fun." Clyde told her.

"You guys should come and watch. Because this is gonna be good."

So that Saturday, Bessie waited in the park for Kevin. Then she saw him walking towards her.

"Hey, Bessie." he greeted.

"Hey, Kevin glad you could make it."

"So, why'd you ask me to be here?"

"Well I like to bring Baxter here on days like this, and I wanted you to meet him."

"Right, Baxter. Who's Baxter, your dog or something?"

"Not quite. Let me go get him."

She wheeled off, and a moment later, she came back with her pig on a leash.

"You have a pet pig? How and where did you get a pig?" Kevin asked in disbelief.

"Yes I do. We got him when he was just a piglet from farm. Now go say hi Baxter."

She let him off his leash, and Baxter jumped on Kevin, pushing him to the ground.

"Whoa, you're a heavy fella, here's a suggestion, don't stand on my leg."

Kevin gently pushed Baxter off of his leg.

"Definitely different from a cat that's for sure."

"Sorry, he gets excited when he meets new people." Bessie told him.

"Again, way different from a cat. My family has a black cat, his name is Benson. He's actually my sister's but you get the idea I think."

"Yeah, but he's a great pet. I need to take him for his walk, but would you mind holding his leash?"

"Sure, I guess"

"Thanks."

She handed the leash to him, and then winked at Baxter. And with that, Baxter took off.

"Whoa!" Kevin cried.

Baxter took off running through the park, dragging Kevin along. From the bushes, Lincoln, Clyde, Liam, Zack, Rusty, and Stella were watching.

"This is better than cartoons." snicked Rusty.

"You got that right." Liam agreed.

And then Kevin and Baxter headed towards a mud puddle.

"Oh no." Kevin complained.

And sure enough, Baxter ran into the mud puddle, and got Kevin all dirty.

"Oh my gosh, Kevin are you okay?" Bessie asked, as she wheeled up to him.

"Don't worry, I'm okay." he assured, as he got up.

"Naughty pig, Baxter." Bessie scolded.

Baxter then looked guilty.

"It's fine, just a little mud."

He then wiped the mud off him.

"I think I'm gonna need to change clothes."

"Oh, I was hoping we could spend some more of the day together." Bessie told him.

Kevin thought about it a little bit, but then spoke up.

"Well maybe we can go to my family's candy shop." he suggested.

"That sounds fun."

And off they went, with Lincoln and the others following behind.

At the candy store, Bessie was amazed as she rolled through the door. The room was the size of a fast food restaurant's dining room. There were shelves of different kinds of candy, and there was even a soda fountain.

"Wow, nice place." Bessie said.

"Thanks, pick out anything you want it's on me. I'm gonna change clothes be right back."

Kevin left Bessie along, and she wheeled around, and saw some candies that looked really tasty.

"Mmm, chocolate bars, sour gummies, and even fudge brownies."

As she grabbed some, she noticed Kevin coming back. He was wearing black jeans, a white polo shirt, and an apron.

"Find something you like?" he asked her.

"Yep."

"Get a bag and grab 'em. I'll get it rung up."

"You know how to work a cash register?"

"Yeah, I work here sometimes."

Bessie was surprised, she thought a rich kid like Kevin would never work or have a job. He rang up all the stuff, and then paid for it with his own money.

"Here you go." he said, handing her the bag.

"Thanks Kevin." Bessie replied.

Just then the manager of the store, asking if Kevin could work a couple hours since one of the workers had just called out. Kevin agreed, and so he told Bessie she'd have to get herself home.

"It's fine Kevin. Bye."

And with that, Bessie rolled out of the store, and Baxter and her friends were waiting for them.

"Nice work, Bessie." complimented Stella.

"You sure gave Kevin quite a day." Lincoln added.

"Yeah, I did." Bessie replied, as she looked back at the candy store.
