Cypher
Home Galaxy: Warhammer 40,000
Cypher, sometimes referred to as Lord Cypher, is a Fallen Angel of the Dark Angels Space Marine chapter, and one of the members of that chapter believed to have turned to Chaos during the Horus Heresy of the 31st Millennium. Cypher is a being wrapped in shadow, an entity whose motives and every move are cloaked in mystery. His motive, methods, and even name are an enigma.
To the wider Imperium, he is a completely unknown figure, or a shadowy being somehow being sought out by the Dark Angels and their successor chapters. To the Unforgiven themselves, Cypher is a being of wild speculation, one that the masters of the Dark Angels hate and seek above all others. The Dark Angels have been pursuing Cypher since the fall of Caliban, but Cypher has mysteriously eluded capture for ten thousand years. During those ten millennia, Cypher has appeared in every corner of the galaxy. Wherever he goes, he brings with him death and destruction, though whether he is the culprit, a herald, or even trying to stop these catastrophic events is unknown. Regardless of what happens, the Dark Angels always follow the trail. Those suspected of having some knowledge of Cypher are interrogated, either in-place or dragged away by black-armored Interrogator-Chaplains to an unknown fate.
As to who or what Cypher is, none can truly say. There have been times where the Dark Angels have believed him to be neutralized, but he always returns. His loyalties and motivations are impossible to guess at, for over the countless centuries he has fought both for the Imperium and Chaos, yet he is betrothed to neither and nearly always betrays his allies after a time.
The Dark Angels who have studied him know two disturbing facts: the first is there was a rank within the ancient Dark Angels Legion known as 'The Lord Cypher', whose task was to keep ancient secrets, though whether Cypher is the same individual as the position's final incumbent is unknown. The second is that Cypher does actually follow some indiscernible pattern known only to himself. It is not even possible to deduce whether Cypher is for or with the Imperium, only that misery and destruction seem to follow in his wake.
Cypher wears a simple ankle-length hooded white robe over power armor painted in the dark green livery of the ancient Dark Angels Legion. He always wields two ancient pistols: one an archaic artificer bolt pistol and one a Marine plasma pistol. However, Cypher's most defining characteristics, and perhaps the most concerning, is the massive sheathed sword he wears on his back. On every sighting of Cypher, he has borne the sword but has never used it, even in situations of self-defense when both of his pistols have been struck from his hands. In the end, all that is known of the sword is that it is another mystery.
Kaiser
Home Galaxy: Drake's galaxy (Tongues of Fire)
Kaiser is the name of a being that is almost completely unknown to the outside world. Kaiser always wears a suit of black armor, with a black helmet with glowing red eye slits that completely covers the face. There are many throughout the past millennia of galactic history that claim to have seen a being or sometimes many beings that fit this description, but all have been dismissed as conspiracy theorists. These sightings are often on major battlefields or locations of extreme import to Earth, the Galactic Federation, or the human species as a whole. However, the government of the Galactic Federation has flatly denied having any knowledge of such an individual or group. Ultimately, it is impossible that a being could live that long, or that a military group could be kept secret that long… isn't it?
To those that actually are familiar with him, Kaiser is the leader of what seems to be a special forces military organization, of which each member has an outward appearance exactly like him. However, any notion that they are all the same individual is swiftly dissuaded by the fact that each has a different name, talents, and personalities.
The mystery of Kaiser continues. He has reflexes, abilities, and predictive intelligence far greater than any normal human could; these things are not caused by his armor, which is simply a protective shell, but innate to his person. His voice is often disguised by his helmet to an intermittent non-recognizable tone. Yet he is referred to by his subordinates and seems to refer to himself as a human male acting as a military officer. Whatever Kaiser might be, and how old he truly is, he is perhaps one of the most dangerous individuals in the universe, both due to his physical abilities and terrifying intellect.
