A/N: We'll be visiting a place that's been long abandoned. After this chapter, I'll have one more to end the Song of the Sea story arc. And then I move on to the next part of the story.

Chapter Thirty-Eight: Abandoned Sea Town
As they drew nearer to the cliffs, Jacob saw the bows of old wooden ships sticking out on some rocks. They looked to be quite old and Jacob could barely see the rest of the ships underneath the surface of the water. The Lagiacrus managed to swerve around the ships and rocks with ease. Lifting his head, Jacob was greatly surprised to see reminiscent of walkways made of wood scattered about the two sides of the cliffs. And down below and further back, on the sides of a waterfall that fell from twin peaks, was a small village. The village, along with the ruined buildings on the cliff side, looked to be quite old. On the left side of the cliffs, a large tree was growing. The Lagiacrus and her passenger glided through the small river. Looking about Jacob asked, "Just what is this place?"
(Cue MM from Monster Hunter World)
The Lagiacrus swam up to a spot by the waterfall and pulled herself onto the shore. Jacob slipped off her back and his feet touched the muddy ground. He stepped away and looked around the place. There were a few huts built onto the cliffs. Jacob thought this place belonged the Commission that that Lylla girl and her friend were a part of. The sound of scrapping made him turn to see the Lagiacrus moving towards the waterfall and went behind it.
Following after her, Jacob saw that there was a pretty large cave that would be a perfect spot for her to live. Glancing back through the opening to the village, he new that any boats would find it quite difficult to navigate through the wreckage, so she might be safe from poachers in the future. And it's not too far from where his uncle's boat is, so he could visit when he needed to and she wouldn't have to swim too far if she were to come to him.
Looking back over to the Lagiacrus, he saw her coiling up in the cave behind the waterfall to sleep. She yawned before laying her head down and bringing her tail close to her head. Deciding to leave her be for now, Jacob went to go and explore the place. Carefully moving towards one of the huts, Jacob gently leaned against the wood of the home and peered through the window. The inside of the hut there were old items, such as collapsed tables, chairs, an unused fireplace, cots for sleeping on and other things. There were what appeared to be portrait frames sitting on the mantle, but time had worn away what images that may have been on them.
Stepping back from the hut, Jacob moved towards through a few more huts. He came upon another structure and climbed up some wooden stairs. The old boards creaked under each step and went pretty high up the cliff before turning one-eighty to another level of the village. Though a great deal of the wooden structures were greatly worn away, a large metal building still stood on the cliff. Jacob peeked into the large opening and was amazed by what he was seeing. A large machine with what appeared to be a conveyer belt of sorts and large claw like parts for grabbing something sat in the middle of the room. Looking to his right he saw a small counter for something. Then turning to his right, he had an idea of what this place could be. Various large weapons and even pieces of armor, just like in the Celestial Pursuit, were propped up against the wall. Nodding to himself, "So this is where they made their gear."
He turned and walked out of the building of metal. Moving around the side building and found a small shed. The entrance was covered by an old tattered sheet. Pushing the sheet out of the way, Jacob looked inside. He saw a desk, a broken wooden stool. He became confused when he sees something sitting on the desk. A vial of red liquid in a creepy and ominous looking container laid there. And what made it even more suspicious was the fact that the liquid was glowing a little. The teen found it a little odd considering that everything else here was practically falling apart. Gingerly picking it up, Jacob looked at the contents of the vial and made a note to look through any of the journals that he had found. He placed the vial of red liquid into his pocket before turning to go back down.
(End of track)
Jacob walked out of the building and saw that there was still quite a lot to explore. But when he saw the position of the sun, he knew that the day was almost over. Moving to the edge of the platform, Jacob looked to the waterfall to see if the Lagiacrus had moved any. But he didn't see her in the water so he figured that she was probably still behind the waterfall.
Quietly coming down the stairs, Jacob moved through the huts and back over to the waterfall. The Leviathan was still sleeping just how he had left her. He was thinking about trying to find a way back to the boat, but something else was telling him to stay with her for now. Carefully making his way towards her, Jacob became a little wary when she started growling in her sleep. Her head twitched a little and from the way that she was scrunching up her eyes, he wondered if she was having a nightmare. It wasn't too hard for him to guess what it could be about. Slowly coming closer Jacob placed a comforting hand on her snout and gently stroked it. It seemed to make her mood soften a little and her eyes slowly opened. He took a step back and she raised her head. Slightly tilting his head he said, "I'm here for you when you need me."
And she thanked him by gently pushing him closer with her tail. She then coiled her body again and moved her head over her tail. Feeling tired himself, Jacob sat down and leaned his head against her side. Like with Grumper a good little while back, he felt the rising and falling of her side. Jacob looked over to the Lagiacrus' head and saw her looking out to the waterfall. But he knew that she was looking out beyond the waterfall, wondering about her brood. Turning her head back to the human, Jacob gave a small smile, "I think you would have made a good mother…
"Calypso." He christened her, thinking it would be a good name to call her. It made her tilt her head for a moment and he thought that she wouldn't like it. But her gently wrapping her foreleg around him and pulling him a little closer told him otherwise. She laid her head back down and they both closed their eyes to sleep.
…
Early the next morning, a bit before the dawn came, Jacob woke up before Calypso did and carefully shifted to avoid waking her. The rise and fall of her sides felt really soothing to him. He reached into his pocket for that vial to look at it some more. Pulling it out of his pocket, Jacob looked at the vial and the red glowing liquid inside of it. He remembered that he thought about consulting the journal when he got back to the boat, but he couldn't help but be curious about it. The teen was wondering what it did, but was also nervous about the unknown. He didn't keep it out long and placed it back into his pocket.
Jacob over looked to Calypso and wondered if her dreams were any better this time. He knew that her heart would still be hurting, seeing that her arm was wrapped around firmly, but not constricting his movement. But also it seems like she was starting to heal, judging from the calm look of her face and the easiness of her breathing. He gave her forearm a small rub of his hand to avoid waking her.
Deciding to rest a little longer, Jacob gently laid his head against her side again and closed his eyes. He took in a deep breath and soon his breathing started to match hers.
…
Jacob didn't know for how long he had been asleep, or how he ended up on his back, but he sat up when he felt that something was amiss here. Somehow while he slept, Calypso managed to sneak off without him waking up. Getting up, Jacob walked around the waterfall to see if he could see the Lagiacrus anywhere. He didn't see her anywhere near the village and the only sounds he could hear was the waterfall. Jacob figured that she must be out in the sea. Deciding to continue exploring until she got back, Jacob made his way to the wooden stairs.
Carefully climbing up the old boards again, Jacob found himself in the higher levels of the village. Moving past the armory and the hut where he found the vial, Jacob came across a metal looking contraption sitting at the edge of the walkway. Carefully coming closer, the teen saw that there was a broken chain and some small hooks attached to it. Placing his hand on the device, he wondered what all it used to do. Looking around, Jacob saw a similar device further down the walkway and another up on the rocky cliff. Deciding to consult the journals about this place later, Jacob continued to look around.
Moving across the wooden walkway, he came up to a small arch and saw some more huts built along the sides of the waterfall past it. A small climb up the stairs he passed by the third machine and came across a large of tables. On the side looked to be a collection of ovens and Jacob figured that it must be a restaurant of some kind. Looking to the right of the place, Jacob saw another arc like the one he had just passed, but this one had a path that led up the side of the top of the cliffside. Looking back, he saw another peak and thought that this is where the Celestial Pursuit once sat.
But before he could ponder or explore anymore, Jacob heard loud splashing coming from the ocean and moved to where he could see. Down at the ruined walkways, he saw Calypso swimming very fast as if she were chasing after something. Carefully making his way back down the stairs and to the ground level, Jacob moved to the water's edge and saw that she was chasing after a pretty big fish. Quickly moving to a better spot, Jacob removed one of the Dual Blades and aimed it. The large fish managed to outmaneuver Calypso and swam a little closer to the shore. Jacob took the shot and flung the weapon at the fish. The blade sailed through the air before impaling the fish in the side. It caused the fish to fall on its side and start floundering about and Jacob rushed into the water for it. Before the flailing fish could get too far, the human teen grabbed the hilt of the Dual Blade with both hands. With a twist of his body, it slipped off the weapon as Jacob flung the fish onto the shore. The large fish tumbled onto the bank and flailed about for a bit. It was quickly snatched up by the Leviathan. Calypso threw her head back and gobbled the fish in one go.
The Leviathan looked as if she suddenly remembered something. She turned her head to the teen and looked a little guilty. Jacob shook his head, "It's all good. I'll find something later."
It seemed to be enough to throw off Calypso's guilty look. She turned her body around in the water and gestured with her head for him to get on. Jacob grinned and waded through the water towards the waiting Leviathan. She lowered her head and he quickly climbed on. He yelped as he held on tight when she lifted out of the water. Calypso gave a small growl and swam back through the wreckage of the village. As they passed by the ruined walkways and such, Jacob looked about once more before turning his gaze back to the ocean.

Author's Note: Well, that chapter sure had some peaceful moments. Fun fact, the name Calypso wasn't even going to be the Lagiacrus' name, but I'll be saving that name for someone else in this story. A few of other things to be discussed as well. First, the next chapter is going to be the final chapter in the Song of the Seas story arc, no doubt about that. And it's not going to be very long either. Second, I have faced and defeated my rival the Tigrex. He will always be a worthy opponent to me. Third, yes, the place where Calypso will be living will be the ruined town of Astera. Fourth, after the next chapter, I plan on working on my other stories a little more than Survival for a little while. I'll work on it every now and then, but I have to be honest, I got a lot of work to do. I look forward to reading your reviews. Be sure to leave a comment either about if I've done something wrong or if you want something specifically to happen. See you all next time.
