OH LOOK Chapter 2 of my story. I'm so cool for updating B) I hope you're enjoying, and hope you continue reading!
Milah woke up the next morning, her alarm for 7:00 am going off. She rushed out of bed and went to check the clock tower time, and sure enough it was correct.
She was mentally freaking out, but was called down by her mother for breakfast.
She ran down and sat with her mother, who was wearing a robe.
"I made apple pancakes, you and Henry's favorite," Regina smiled at her daughter.
"Thank you, Mommy," Milah grinned, immediately digging in.
"Milah, sweetie, I just wanted to know what you thought about this, Miss Swan coming to town," Regina started, and her daughter looked up at her with a big chunk of pancke in her mouth, she was attempting to chew. "I know you were a little bit older than Henry when she left you, I just want to make sure you're ok." She looked at her, worriedly.
"Mom, I'm fine," Milah smiled, reassuringly. "Henry may be curious, but I know exactly who my mother is, and what kind of woman Miss Swan is. I'll try to keep out of trouble, but just know, I'll never doubt that you're my mother." Her words made Regina smile and sigh in relief, grateful that at least one of her children appreciated her.
"And I'll never doubt that you're my daughter, now, finish up and go get ready for school," Regina nodded to her and Milah commenced shoving pancakes in her mouth again.
Milah had just finished getting ready, putting on her uniform and brushing her hair out, she had just picked up her backpack when she heard the clock tower chime, and she wondered how her mother would react.
Milah reacted by putting her backpack on quickly, and running downstairs to leave with Henry, whom she had heard running down just seconds earlier.
"Bye, Mom!" She called up, waiting a second for a response. "Love you!"
"Love you, too, Milah!" Regina called back down, immediately and Milah smiled.
Then she went on her way with Henry, quickly.
Henry had dragged her to Granny's before school, insisting he needed a hot chocolate, so she reluctantly agreed. They sat down in a booth and when Ruby came by to take their orders, Henry had ordered a hot chocolate with cinnamon for himself and Milah had gotten a slice of apple pie.
Milah was busy digging into her pie after thanking Ruby when she heard a jingle from the door. She ignored it, very investedin her pie, but she looked up when she heard Henry.
"Ruby, can you get that lady over there a hot chocolate?" Henry asked. "With cinnamon." Ruby looked confused, but nodded and walked off, nonetheless. Milah looked up, confused, before she saw the woman that Henry was referring to.
Emma.
"What are you doing, Henry?" Milah asked, an angered whisper. She quickly shoved the rest of her pie in her mouth.
She saw Emma confront Sheriff Graham about the hot cocoa and Milah rolled her eyes, but stopped when Henry spoke up.
"I did," Henry corrected, and Milah kicked his leg. "Ow, Milah!" Henry complained, turning to her, and she stuck her tongue out at him.
Milah stood and she could feel Emma and Henry's eyes on her. She walked up to the register to pay.
"As amazing as always," She smiled at Granny. She got out the money her mother gave her and handed to Granny, who smiled and accepted it, say a farewell to the girl.
Milah left, just about hearing Henry tell Emma that he liked cinnamon to.
Milah was walking to school alone, she didn't like it, she enjoyed Henry's comapny. But she absolutely refused to be near Emma.
She was walking up the steps when a small body basically tackled her from behind.
Milah cried out as she tried to stop herself from falling.
"What was that for, Henry?" She asked, knowing exactly who would have done this.
"Emma totally believes me, that's why she's staying!" Henry answered her and Milah shook her head.
"She's playing you, Henry, I don't believe a word that woman says," Milah frowned and she rushed off to her class, leaving Henry behind to look down in disappointment.
Milah had only been in class for one hour, and already her head hurt from how many different thoughts were taking up her headspace.
Emma coming back, Henry's fairytale thing, Her mother's stressed out worry, Henry trying to get close with Emma and the way Emma looked at Milah, guiltily, whenever they were near each other.
So she did the only logical thing she could think of.
She raised her hand to go to the nurse, complaining of a stomach ache, and the teacher let her out. When his back turned to continue the lesson, she took her backpack and got out of the room quickly. She was just going to go outside and skip school, when she saw her mother and Henry standing near the buses.
"Mom?" She questioned, walking towards them.
"Oh, Milah, it's good you're here too," Regina looked to her. "The woman that Henry brought here, she's been arrested." Regina told them, acting solemn.
Milah only raised her eyebrows in question, wondering why her mother was telling her, she did not care for Emma.
"She broke into Dr. Hopper's office and stole his files," Regina explained. "She's a con woman. She's trying to learn about us in order to take advantage of us. That's why she's sticking around. I'm sorry." Regina sighed.
"No, you're not," Henry replied, angrily.
"I know you think otherwise, but all I'm doing is trying to protect you," Regina corrected Henry. "This is gonna be good for us. You'll see. Things will be better."
"Of course they will, Miss Swan is not our mother, Henry. She's just some lady who doesn't care who she hurts," Milah rolled her eyes, the bell then rang.
"I gotta get back to class," Henry said, running off. Milah only sighed.
"He'll come around, Mom. Once Miss Swan is gone, he'll be back to normal, the way he was before she came," Milah hugged her mother, who hugged her back tightly.
"Of course he will," Regina nodded, letting go of her daughter. "Why are you outside anyway, and with your backpack?" Regina raised an eyebrow.
"I was just a little tired, thought some fresh air would be good," Milah smiled, sheepishly and Regina laughed.
"How about I take you home and you and me can tend to the apple tree," Regina offered and Milah gasped, excitedly.
"Could we please? That'd be nice, I can get the ones near the bottom!" Milah asked, basically jumping up and down.
"Of course, come on," Regina led her back to her car and they drove off.
Milah had just finished washing her hands, she had been tending to the roots of the tree, making sure they were getting nutrients and were fully covered so no one would trip.
Then she heard the motor. She rushed outside and saw her mother and Emma talking, heatedly, and she saw the branch of the tree that she had grown up with, broken and brutally cut off.
Emma was smirking, until she heard Milah's angry sobs.
She turned to see Milah, who was glaring at Emma, tears rolling down her face.
"Go away," Milah cried, trying to wipe off the tears, but they just kept coming.
"Mila-" Emma was cut off.
"Now! The only person who wants you here is Henry! And soon he'll learn how much of a mistake that was," Milah frowned. Emma walked off, glancing at Milah one last time, but Milah was no longer paying any attention to her. Milah was running towards her mother, who held her in a hug while the younger girl cried.
Regina was just glaring where Emma was, and Emma walked off, feeling both proud of her win and regret for making the little girl she had raised for three years, hate her.
Milah was picking up the fallen apples that had strewn about the ground, alongside her mother. Her eyes were still red and puffy from crying.
She heard footsteps and saw that Graham had come at her mother's orders.
"She destroyed city property," Regina spat. "I want her arrested."
"Again?" Graham asked, and Milah shook her head, agreeing with her mother.
Emma would only corrupt Henry, and no way would Milah allow that to happen to her sweet baby brother.
"What are you waiting for?" Regina asked, irritated.
"I'm just not convince arresting her is the right plan," Graham explained. "And I'm not talking about your tree." Graham shook his head.
Milah, looked up, curious, but sighed and reminded herself that Emma wasn't worth any curiosity.
"We both know she didn't steal those files," Graham added.
"Oh, do we?" Regina asked, narrowing her eyes at Graham.
"I mean, she looked pretty shocked when I leveled the charges against her," Graham told her.
"It's because she doesn't like being caught," Regina said, going back to picking up apples.
"Most criminals don't," Milah murmured.
"Or because she was set up," Graham offered. "And if she was, that means Dr. Hopper was lying. And if he's lying that means someone asked him to. Are we really confident that the man's conscious won't eventually get the best of him?" Graham asked.
"I think your schoolboy crush is clouding your judgement," Regina hissed. "Remember, I made you sheriff, and I can take it away just as easily." Regina threatened, her voice quiet so that Milah didn't hear. But Milah heard, and she didn't entirely disagree with the way her mother was acting.
"You want me to arrest her again? I will." Graham shrugged.
"Good," Regina decided.
""But she's gonna keep coming at you," Graham continued. "And I know you, you're gonna keep coming at her. And you will do whatever it takes to get her out of here, and you may succeed-"
"No! I will succeed!" Regina exclaimed. "He's my son, and that's my daughter! It's what's best for the both of them."
"I know that's what you believe," Graham began. "But if this escalates, it seems to me the only ones who will get hurt are Henry and Milah."
"You're right, Sheriff, Henry will get hurt," Milah broke the silence and both adults turned to the little girl who stood with a basket of apples in her hands. "Because Emma is going to forget about him, get bored of this little town and bail. She only cares about herself and I would much rather watch my mother win than lose. So how about you keep an eye on Miss Swan, she'll cause a lot more trouble than she's worth." Milah frowned and walked back inside, leaving the adults to their thoughts.
Milah and Henry were meeting with their Mom at her office so she could take them out for dinner and then therapy.
But one things for sure, after hearing the conversation that was going down in there, Milah would not be happy.
"Well, the two of them are in therapy. And I only got through a couple of the shrink's noted before you had me arrested," Milah heard Emma say. "But putting all that aside, Henry thinks everyone in this town is a fairy tale character."
"And you don't?" Regina asked. Milah leaned closer to the door, Henry as well.
"How can I?" Emma asked. "The poor kid can't tell the difference between fantasy and reality and it's only getting worse. It's crazy." And that was it for Milah.
"You think I'm crazy?" Henry asked, hurt coming from his voice. He then ran off.
"First you try to chop down my tree and then you hurt my brother? The only reason we're even in therapy is because we were sent away by the woman who was supposed to love us. You do not get to show up here, years later, pretending you care," Milah scowled. "The only mother we need, is right there, and she raised us, she made us who we are so you do not get to pretend to be our mother." Milah scoffed, walking off with Henry.
After therapy, when Milah and Henry were getting ready for bed, he told her that Emma had come to see him and Milah dismissed him, not caring.
Milah went to her bedroom and closed the door. She lay in her bed, in her pajamas and she just sighed, thinking of her mess of a day.
She went to sleep, the feeling of anger coming at a rest on her body as the last thing she thought of when she went to sleep, was getting rid of Emma Swan.
Her bedroom twinkled with the shine of tiny lights radiating off of Milah's hands, that lay at her sides.
