Disclaimer: I do not own HTTYD or Stargate SG-1. I do not own either of their lores or technology. I own nothing but the plot edits, my OC's, my original dragon species, my original technology, and my over active imagination.
Book Notes: This is most dominantly a HTTYD story. No. This is not a full blown crossover. Not yet anyway, and not for a long time. That's why this story is not in the crossover section. The two fandoms simply share the same Midgard/earth. The HTTYD segment takes place in the past while the Stargate segment is in the future. Historical and technological lores from both series, as a result, are combined.
Black wings whistled over icy waters. Freezing winds billowed in her face, the sheer speed she was traveling forced her to squint her turquoise eyes. She had a single destination in mind.
Berk.
She had to check on something important to her, or rather, someone.
The Shadow Stalker had heard of the downfall of the Blood Gorger. The monster that plagued the archipelago for the last three hundred years by catching unaware dragons in her mind trap, a hypnotic call that only the strong willed and stouthearted could resist.
Dragons had attempted a rebellion against the queen a little over a hundred years ago now, resulting the massacre of thousands of dragons, and the near elimination of the Gale Shrieker species.
Her kind thought it impossible to defeat the tyrant. Not even the other alphas would help, believing it would create a power vacuum which could then lead to civil war.
Recently though, that had changed. Tales spread throughout dragonkind of both a human boy and Shadow Stalker teaming up to defeat the tyrant. Fighting by their side was a band of dragons they had recruited. A Spine Scale, a Fire Tongue, a Cackle Death, and a Stone Swallower. All with riders of their own fought alongside the dark duo to accomplish what no dragon or human had done in a few millenniums. Allying with each other to reach an end goal and end the monsters reign of terror.
The battle wasn't without it's costs. Rumors had spread of the Shadow Stalker missing a tail fin. A very important appendage to her kin, and of it's riders missing foot, forever hindering the child's maneuverability.
Pondering the riders rumored appearance. She winced, a shutter vibrated throughout her streamlined body, cutting to her very bones. Shaking her head, she hoped it was just rumors. The hero couldn't be him, not him.
An island came into view. She was approaching her destination, rapidly. The Shadow Stalker swiftly flapped her broad wings. Gaining altitude as to stay out of sight, she climbed further into the inky black abyss that was the sky, hoping to employ her species natural camouflage.
Thousands of stars glimmered overhead, no clouds to taint the view. Her eyes narrowed. It was a moonless night, just the way she liked it.
The Stalker soared over the quiet village. Listening for any humans, sheep, or any other creature that could give her position away.
Finding nothing other than occasion dragon chitters, she stilled her wings to a hover. Tonight, she thought. Nerves causing wispy grey tendrils of smoke to billow softly from her nostrils. She would find out tonight.
Swooping lower over the village into a gentle glide. Her eyes trailed the lonely island that had briefly been her home so many years ago. Few fires dotted the huts beneath her, while crisp waves lapped the shoreline. On the edge of the small community, mountainous pine trees stood tall, their large bodies serving as lonely sentinels towering over the village. Protecting their home from any who dared invade from the thick forests.
Out of all the places she had inhabited, this island and it's people was by far her favorite. The Vikings sheer bluntness and stubbornness had alway intrigued her, these even more so than others. Having been here many times before, she quickly located her target. The chiefs hut.
Inside held one of the most valuable beings in the world to her. She prayed with all her soul that he was not the rider from rumor. The description she had gathered was too similar to her precious one to feel completely at ease. There were other boys of age on the island, but she knew of only one who held his description. This was the entire reason for her trip. To prove her horrid suspicions wrong and put her treacherous mind to rest. She snorted, she should really find a way to restrain her thoughts and anxiety. The suspension was killing her.
She coasted the rocky air currents above, expertly floating towards the dreaded wooden hut. She set her gaze down on her target with steely determination. Giving her vast canopies for wings one final flap, she landed on her target's roof quietly. She could not wake her target. If she did, it would be the least of her problems.
Ears pricked. She listened for signs of wakefulness. Something to send her on her way. To check another night. Her eyes narrowed, mentally shaking her head. If she didn't find out, the sheer fact of not knowing would almost certainly be the death of her. No, she had to know.
The first thing that greeted her ears were crickets, then snoring. The booming sounds echoed throughout the hall beneath her. Her scaled jaw twitched into a brief ghost of a smile. She missed those snores. The guttural noises reminding her of thunder on a gloriously stormy night.
Her heart hammered in her chest as she crouched on the arched roof. Was she really going to do this? She had visited before, but never in the last fourteen years had she stepped inside this hut while humans were actually in it.
The dragoness crept forward. Paws stepping softly on the wooden tiled roof, her long tail swished behind her. She had to be careful, knowing the ceiling of this particular hut tended to shower dust when anything heavy walked or banged on it. Such as hail, roof repairing Vikings...or in this case, a dragon.
Ahead of her was a hatch. Closed, but nevertheless a hatch. Last time she visited, there was no hatch. Most certainly not one large enough to fit her entire body through. She whined, heart sinking. Her last shred of hope was evaporating fast. So far, evidence was suggesting that her precious one was involved in the war in so many ways she desperately wished he wasn't.
Pawing at it proved fruitless. Sending her eyes on a mission, they widened when they spotted a complicated latch keeping the door from opening. She fingered it with her talons. It appeared to be designed to keep dragons and most humans from unlocking it.
She grinned a toothless grin and cooed, feeling an onrush of bubbling pride. Her precious one was clever, she had to give him that. Then again, she wasn't most dragons, and she certainly wasn't human.
She slid the latch up, to the left, then flattened it gently before it unlocked, hopefully revealing the boy inside.
Pulling the hatch open, she grunted, it was heavier than she thought. Now that her entryway was accessible, she peered into the darkness below. Turquoise orbs scanning for signs of life.
She crouched, just in case someone was indeed awake after all. Her black scales giving her better camouflage in the darkness than most dragons.
Finding no movement, the dark dragoness slid inside. Sleek scales slid smoothly against the edge of the hatch she had crouched upon. Thumping softly onto the floor, she crept forward. One paw in front of the other. Talons clicking gently against the wooden floor planks that so often made up human homes.
Darkness surrounded her, heavy shadows lingered on the wooden walls. The blackness preventing most creatures from having sight, but Shadow Stalker eyes were of every match for it. After all, her kind ruled the night.
She could vaguely see a wooden bed with a lump curled in the middle of it across the room, swathed in shadows. A small wax candle left unlit stood sentry on the night stand, her little one was sleeping.
She glanced to the side warily before snaking further along the floor, her belly scales just barely brushing with the dirt littered planks. She approached the boy, the one that held the information she so desperately needed to know. Was he the one? Was he the boy with the Shadow Stalker that vanquished the Blood Gorger? Who ended the Red Queens reign?
He was just ahead of her now. His earth brown hair just barely peaking out from under the pile of blankets. She could hear his soft breathing. Light puffs of air, rattling against the woolen covers. She smiled forlornly, oh how she hoped it wasn't him.
She froze. Behind her, a low growl sounded out. Menacing, but quiet. It's low volume grated harshly on her ears, the sound scolding her for not properly examining her surroundings. In her desperation to check on the boy, she had forgotten to scent for the other Shadow Stalker. She cursed to herself for her brief bout of idiocy, she was checking to see if this boy was the one from local legend, of coarse he would have his companion with him!
Although maybe there was still hope, maybe he was another Shadow Stalker in vicinity that her precious one just happened to befriend. No, that was still unlikely, but she had to hold out hope. Technically, nothing is confirmed until she sees a missing appendage on either the boy, or dragon.
Ears slightly flattened with eyes slitted, she slowly turned to peer behind her. Toxic green eyes lurked in the darkness by the far wall, the eyes having not been there a second ago in her visual scan of the area. It's eyes were narrowed and threatening. Her eyes battled the other Stalker's for dominance before she noticed the odd shape the other dragon appeared to have been resting on.
Now that she peered closer, she could see a large slab of stone lying across from the boys bed. She frowned to herself. She really should of noticed that. It was really rather out of place. She must be loosing her touch.
"What are you doing here?"
She snapped herself back to present. Ears jerking moon high before resting to a more wary position. She scowled to herself, she really shouldn't let her guard slip like that.
Mistakes like that could be fatal.
"This is my nest, so get out before your scales become melded to your skin." The other dragon hissed.
"I apologize for intruding upon your territory, Stalker, but I could say the same for you, claiming a human nest as your own." She motioned, calming herself. If this Shadow Stalker wished to do things the hard way, then she would play along, to a degree. She really didn't feel in the mood for a fight, she was to emotionally compromised for that right now.
The other dragon scowled, seemingly offended by her simple observation. "Yes, this is my nest, and most certainly isn't yours, and the fact you haven't left yet makes your apology, as of current, worthless." He snapped. "So, I'll ask again? Why are you still here?"
She stiffened indignantly from the rude tone, how dare he insult someone of her heritage? She took in a breath of air, reminding herself that she was the one invading his territory, not the other way around. In dragon law, he had every right to scold her or request honor in battle, and likely did not know of her status. Or for better wording, former status. In his eyes, she was a threat to his ground rights.
She then examined the other Stalker closer. He was young, that, she could see clearly, and could explain his extreme territorial issues. Most young males were like that. Along his black hide, the many scars that littered his body were difficult to see in the low lighting against his dark skin. Shadow Stalker eyes, while made for night vision and could see excellently, could never beat the fine and crisp details the sun provided.
Her gaze trailed his body down to the tail. She breathed in sharply, a missing tail fin. All her fears and anxieties just became reality. This Shadow Stalker was the one, which meant her boy was the other one. The rider, the vanquisher of the tyrant. This also meant he was the one who lost his leg.
"What is your name, Stalker?" She asked, her previous indignation long forgotten. Her tone rang of defeat and grief. If she couldn't even keep her boy safe, what good were her secret three month check-ins now? She knew something would happen. Just why had she listened to the Alpha and Cloudjumper again?
She steeled herself, she had to know the name of the one who had saved the boy. Her boy. She could panic later. Because right now, it appeared she was no longer dealing with an arrogant young dragon, but a young dragon with a highly protective drive.
The honest question seemed to catch the other Stalker off-guard. His eyes slightly widening before gaining a suspicious glint. "Why would you want to know that?" He spoke, his voice laced with distrust.
She sighed, "Because I wish to know the one who saved him. He means more to me than you know."
The Stalker rose a now interested brow. He glowered, then took a quick taste of the air. Eyes widened in disbelief. "Wait, your-"
"Yes. I am" she cut him off. There was no way she wanted to risk other dragons hearing the end of that sentence. She shuttered. Who knows what they would do once they got verbal confirmation of what most could guess by scent.
The other Stalker's eyes softened ever so slightly. He would never fully understand her situation, could never, but only guess. He had heard situations like this happening before. It was rare and forbidden, but possible.
"My full name is Northfire North from the lineage of Rivermoon." Northfire gave after a second, glancing off to the side towards the sleeping boy. She could see his eyes swarming with barely concealed affection. Northfire turned his sharp gaze back to her. "But my brother in all but blood, your boy," he gestured towards the sleeping boy, "Has dubbed me Toothless." His stance rose with pride. Not a vain filled pride, but a humble one.
She smiled to herself. She could see her boy was in safe talons with this youngling.
He frowned. Toxic eyes zeroing in on her turquoise ones. "I have told you my name, I believe it's your turn to return the favor."
The female Shadow Stalker lifted her head. "Searain. My name is Searain Sea-Rust-Raven from the lineage of Pinesun."
He frowned thoughtfully. "The daughter of Pineclaw Whitewren?"
"The one and the same." Searain bowed her head. A sign of respect among dragons. After all, it seemed he deserved it for keeping her boy safe and his role in ending the tyrant. Regardless of earlier transgressions.
"Well that explains it." She could hear Northfire mutter under his breath. Her ear twitched. She could see the other Stalker pause for a moment to get his scrambled thoughts together. She gave him that time.
Northfire had always thought Hiccup to be a bit different from the other humans.
His scent, his attitude, and overall physical appearance never made sense to him. He wasn't like the others, but this was the last scenario on his mental list of explanations. Ancients! He was pretty sure it wasn't even on the list! He could hear his thoughts rampaging like a crazed Beetle Smasher after a yak before hearing a yawn from Hiccup's bed.
That snapped him out of it.
Both Searain and Northfire gazed warily at the bed. They stood still as stone, neither dragon wishing to explain themselves as best they could, or couldn't, to the boy just yet.
Once Hiccup appeared to drift back to the realms of sleep, Northfire took a quick glance in the direction of Searain. The dragoness remained frozen, eyes wide with ears flat, her body crouched low to the planks beneath her paw pads. A pang of sorrow struck him. To be so scared of the ones you once knew, however brief, must be terrible.
"So why are you here?" He asked softly. The dragoness's head slowly moved her gaze back on him, faint fear flickered across her face before suppressing it. "You obviously weren't going to speak to him, and I'd say you're probably not going to now." He finished, observing her for confirmation.
"I-I" her voice shuttered, taking a quick intake of stabilizing breath through her nostrils, she continued. "I wanted to check on him. Make sure he was all right after the fall of the Red Queen. Now that I see that he is fine. Well, mostly, if what I hear from rumors are correct." She glared at him briefly, seeing the shifty look on his face. "And seeing the bond you have with him, may I request something of you?"
Northfire thoughtfully tipped his head. On one paw, he could deny her. He owed nothing to the dragoness. On the other paw, he could see the barely disguised hopeful glint in her posture. He frowned. Oh, Ancients. He was sure he was going to regret this.
"And that is?" He gestured with his tail.
She bowed her head meekly. "I can't be around as much as I want too for fear of other dragons getting too curious, which as you can guess..." She gestured crestfallen towards the boy's prosthetic foot, which she had spotted a few minutes ago in her panic, standing near his bed. "Hasn't necessarily worked out well for him so far."
She motioned a wing to Northfire, finding new vigor in her words as she continued. "You, however. You can watch him in plain sight without worry of being caught. You can guard him. And protect him from both other dragons, and humans who may wish to harm him. Please, protect him. Keep him safe." She finished. A tinge of desperation in her voice. "I know you owe nothing to me, but-"
Northfire, who's pupils were already expanding at the implications of her proposal, gaped. "You want me? To protect him?!" He squeaked incredulously. "You do realize what exactly you just proposed, right?! That would make me..." he trailed off, his breathing starting to come in quick bursts.
A tired look crossed Searain's face as he rambled, she knew all to well the implications of what she asked, but she wouldn't have asked unless she meant it. If she hadn't, she simply wouldn't have said anything. She stepped in, having caught the twitch of his jaw about to go on another rant, probably to descend further into the absurdity of her request. "Yes, I know exactly what I'm suggesting. Otherwise, I wouldn't have suggested it." Northfire's jaw snapped shut as she spoke, a stumped look still gracing his features. "So, do you agree or not?"
Northfire closed his eyes, hoping to steady himself as his world tumbled further and further into madness. What she had just suggested was a very important and sacred concept among Shadow Stalker's, more so with them than any other species.
Family. In her request to guard Hiccup, seeing Hiccup was somehow a member of this dragons family, she was offering him an adopted place among her clan and family. Well, he supposed he had already stated Hiccup was like a brother to him. Why not make it more recognized?
He gulped. "Well, he was already like a brother to me anyway, so why not make it more official?" He chuckled nervously.
Searain gave a tired smile. She knew she could never keep a proper eye on him, but this arrangement gave her peace. Even if it did mean an impromptu adoption...Now she just had to keep an eye out for one other boy in particular, her only other boy who lived on another island. He was a bit crazy, but she supposed that was just the way he was raised.
She approached slowly, as to not startle the already skittish Shadow Stalker. She could see he was practically a pile of nerves. She nearly touched his head with her muzzle when Northfire scooted away before she could make the necessary head gesture.
"Before we make this official in dragon law, I do have one condition on your end for this to come into affect."
Searain wearily dipped her head, "And that is?"
"You tell him." He demanded. "At some point. You tell him, he needs to know."
Searain nodded solemnly, "I will, I have always planned to tell him. Just not now, he's too young."
Northfire nodded in silent acceptance. This, while not perfect, would have to do for now. Some reassurance was better than none.
With the young Shadow Stalker's mind finally at rest, Searain cautiously approached, not wishing to set him off again. Finally getting into the seldom used ceremonial posture, with her head resting on top of his, she spoke. "I, Searain Sea-Rust-Raven of the lineage of Pinesun, daughter of Pineclaw Whitewren and Sunflight Cranelily. Welcome you, Northfire North Rivermoon into our family group, and as a second-son of mine. Now, and forevermore, if you consent."
"I consent." He shivered.
A purr rumbled deep from somewhere within her throat. "Thank you" she sighed. "I can rest easier at night with someone protecting him."
Northfire simply nodded, his mind rather numbed at what just occurred. He cleared his throat awkwardly, "I believe Hiccup will wake soon, so if you wish to leave quietly without fuss, it would probably be a good idea do so now."
Searain glanced out the skylight hatch above her, startling when seeing the sky brighten. She must have been here longer than she thought.
"Yes, I-I suppose I must be going now." She took one last glance at the boy and Northfire. "Keep him safe." With that, she jumped out the skylight, closed the hatch gently behind her, and took off into the dawning sky.
In the shadowed hut. Northfire, alone with his thoughts, rested his head between his paws on his sleeping stone, still reeling in everything that had just happened in the span of ten minutes. "Just what have I gotten myself into now?"

Authors Notes:
Before we get started,
I have both seen and searched out fictions of HTTYD dragon hybrids many times and to be honest, while I have seen some amazing storylines, I have yet to find anymore than a small handful of stories with a more science-fiction based plot line and explanation, instead of the usual, say, magic. Which I do not care for.
This story is here to help fill that gap. (A few other gaps will be filled too, but you will have to wait and find out)
These stories will intertwine heavily the lore and technology of How To Train Your Dragon, and Stargate SG-1. Not much knowledge of Stargate is needed as of yet, or ever, if I explain it well enough when I get there. Only the technology concepts and ancient history behind the earth from Stargate is used for now, and will probably remain that way for the first five or so books (which is the plan). Most dominantly, this is a HTTYD story that will begin with RTTE and ending somewhere down the line.
Just note that the Ancients, and a good majority of the few bits of tech that is shown or mentioned, is not mine, but is Stargates.
(Sorry if this said updated as of 07/27/23, FFN said this story was not found and I was trying to fix it. Rest assured, I did not delete it. I'm actually not sure what happened.)
Chapter 1 will be posted soon ;)
