From Angels to demons
The seventh day had started peacefully, god had done her work and today was declared to be a resting day. Adam and Eve had just woken up, as I heard that vibrating sound again. It seemed to be come from under the wall I was standing on, I looked behind me to see if that big snake had moved but it had already vanished. I turned back to the noise and noticed the ground move slightly and then open up. A black snake slithered out of the ground, the color of it's eyes stood in big contrast with it's body. Beautiful golden eyes, the animal moved towards Eve. I stood ready in case it tried to harm her, but it didn't it just moved next to her and he was off again. Disappeared into the flora of the garden.
I let out a sigh, the concept of these animals were new to me but it was odd wasn't it. There were snake like creatures on other planets we created, they were different from this one and seemed much more aggressive. This one didn't seem interested into food and why would he slither so close to a potential danger to itself? Something was off here, but I couldn't lay my finger on it. I noticed Eve walking towards the forbidden apple tree. "What she doing?" I whispered.
She snatched an apple from it and took a bite. "What are you doing?" I yelled. Eve ignored me and gave the apple to Adam, who as well took a bite. They both went into hiding themselves from me. How could they do that? There was only one rule for them, to not touch the tree and they just did. They are lucky it's god's resting day, so she will only find out tomorrow. They'll need to go, out of Eden. Maybe they have a chance of surviving outside and to be hiding for some time. I cannot just let them, they need some help here.
Several moments later I noticed Adam and Eve crawling around the walls, they had used leaves to hide their bareness from me. The apple had indeed did it's work, they had discovered the feeling of shame. Seeing naked flesh as something bad, they were doomed. I took my flaming sword and gave it to her. She didn't want to take it, but I told her it was alright. They wandered of into the wilderness, an unknown world to them.
My range of thoughts suddenly dropped as I heard that vibrating noise again. I noticed that huge snake slither next to me, it seemed to rise up. It's head came to the same height as mine, even a bit taller. I had an odd and sick feeling about this. The appearance started to change, hair grew out of it's scalp, human like features emerged. "Oh my god, don't tell me this was a demon." And indeed a red haired demon stood there next to me.
"Well that went down like a lead balloon." It said. I could not hide my nervousness, why does this have to happen to me? Really… I should have killed that snake when I first saw it. The demon stared at me, seemed like I hadn't responded. Oh my… "Sorry what was that?" I asked politely.
"Well, that went down like a lead balloon." It repeated itself.
"Yes,… yes it did… rather." I replied silently, I wished he could just go away.
"Bit an overreaction from yours I mean, I cannot see what so bad at knowing the difference between good and evil anyway?" It asked and then I realized something. His voice seemed familiar, the question and the bluntness itself reminded me of someone I know. Kokabiel, my angel friend. I had the instant feeling that I knew him.
However this demon looks a bit like Kokabiel, same hair color, same voice, same nose and mouth. "But it must be bad." I hurried my reply, feeling a bit more at ease now. I looked into those eyes and they were not known to me. Perhaps I was just fooling myself. The demon noticed I avoided the eye contact by closing mine and looking away. It took it as a hint to reveal it's name, something demons never do.
"Crawley" I greeted him out of respect, never had some demon coming along and have a normal conversation with. A polite conversation so to speak without swearing and hissing. "Otherwise you wouldn't have tempted them into it?"
"Arg, they just said, go up there and make some trouble." Crawley replied with not much interest in the matter, it left him indifferent.
"Well obviously you are a demon! That's what you do."
He ignored my reply for a moment and he continued with questioning God, he had some points of truth to be honest but I couldn't confess that as an Angel. So I told him what I told Kokabiel once. "It's not to us to understand, it's all part of the great plan. It is ineffable."
"The great plan Ineffable?"
"Yes it's beyond our understanding,…" I tried to explain myself but he interrupted and asked about my sword. Which I told him I gave it away. He seemed stunned by that, which made me feel more insecure. "I do hope I didn't do the wrong thing." I murmured, it was really bothering me. Crawley made me at ease jet again. He comforted me, telling me I couldn't do anything wrong. He really seemed nice.
"I've been worrying to, what if I did the right thing with the whole apple business. A Demon can get in a lot of trouble by doing the right thing." I heard the Demon say, and a worried expression came over his face. I wondered just now, if he was a Demon for a long time? He didn't seem evil, just confused. He doesn't seem ready for his work, not well informed and even lonely. Maybe he is one of the fallen angels from the last rebellion, didn't happen so long ago either. I didn't dare to ask however, what if this was a trick. His eyes, they didn't ease my inner conflict. They were tempting to believe him but still, there was something evil about them.
"What if we both got it wrong? What if you did the wrong thing and I did the right thing." I saw a smile emerge, and now I was almost certain I knew him, poor Kokabiel. The rumors were right, he did go to the rebellion. I couldn't believe it, he had promised not to go.
The first rain drop fell onto earth and I remembered the first stardust falling down upon us years ago, I protected him from the rain like he protected me from the dust. He came closer to me as if he remembered but said nothing. He never asked my name, not even once in the 6000 years after this moment.
