One creature, alighted by azure sea. A wave like a mountain approached the shore and threatened to swallow all that was there. The creature struck a blow of grief. The wave broke. Tranquillity was restored. The Creature of Legend that guarded that land was named…Cateracta.
"Oh wow!" Ochette said in awe as she and the Dimensional Heroes docked in Conning Creek in the Harborlands. "The ports just as amazing as I thought. Look at all this seafood."
"I'm glad you're excited but we didn't come to eat." Shamir said.
"Right. Now where would Cateracta be?" Ochette pondered.
"Well they're supposed to be a sea serpent so I imagine its living somewhere in the surrounding sea." Robin said.
"Yeah…oh clams!" Ochette said going to a clam seller.
"Fine…but just one." Blake said paying the man.
"Say…is there a festival going on?" the man asked. "I couldn't help notice some costumes. Those ears on your heads look so real."
"Uh…thanks…" Blake said as she and Ochette walked away.
"Was it a compliment?" Ochette asked.
"I guess Beastlings aren't that common on the mainland. Same with anything animalistic yet humanoid." Sheer said.
"Bet kids will wanna pull and poke at Cheetah and those other cat ladies' ears and tails just to see how real they are." Asta chuckled.
A cry was soon heard by a few of the members of the group.
"Did you hear that?" Ochette asked.
"Hear wha…hey!" Jexi said as Ochette ran towards the beach as they followed her.
"I can hear it…there!" Ochette said looking to the nearby island. "Okay…you all stay here. I'll swim to the island and back."
"You certainly will not!" Mahina cawed.
"The riptides could tear you apart easily." Jet said. "Look. There's a wharf over there. Let's get some boats and row over there."
"Get out of here!" a voice said as a woman in a tribal dress stood guard.
"And who the hell are you?" Bakugo demanded.
"Alpione. Guardian of the Waves. And I will not let you near the island." she said. "What manner of creatures are some of you? Your scents are…unusual."
"We're a…menagerie." Alear said.
"Either way, I cannot allow you to pass." Alpione said.
"P-Perhaps we should take our leave…" Mahina suggested.
"We can't turn back now! Come on, let's provoke her!" Ochette said.
"Hold your fire." Jexi said. "Aka...Roku…"
Aka nodded as she and her wolf companion approached the guardian, spear in hand.
"You will receive no mercy from me." Alpione said.
Aka and Roku moved around frantically as Alpione was having trouble tracking their movements before she was quickly pinned down by the two of them.
"Sorry, but we need to get to that island." Jexi said as they moved past the girl and boarded the boats and headed onto the island. However, the sight there was surprising.
They looked outside of a sea cave where the plain nearby it lied a skeleton of a fierce beast as well as fallen spears and arrows from a past battle.
"So you were the one we heard crying." Ochette said.
"The wind must have blown across the bones like a flute." Tokoyami said.
"Yes. We're practically brothers now." Brook said. "Though I wonder whose bones these were."
"Cateracta's…" a voice said as they saw Alpione behind them. "I see you found her."
"This is…Cateracta?!" Fluttershy said in shock as they looked at the bones.
"How…how did this happen?" Chopper asked.
"Humans happened. Lead by a dark hunter, they went and attacked Cateracta en masse and finished her off. Scales, whiskers, claws…nothing but bones remains of it." Alpione said.
"We came to get Cateracta because of a calamity coming to an island…but there won't be much they can do if they're dead." Alear said.
"Yeah…though…why was it on this island that she died? What makes this so place so special?" Eijiro asked.
"Let me show you." Alpione said as she lead them into the cave. "For many years, my group helped to defend Cateracta after it was weakened from saving this town from a giant wave. The dark hunter came and her and her allies killed Cateracta and most of the group, save for me. But…Cateracta protected something precious here. Something she wouldn't let anyone near. So I took it upon myself to protect it."
"What was she so keen to…" Sunset said as they stopped before looking upon a single egg. "Is…"
"It's Cateracta's egg." Alpione said. "She laid it before dying. A final bequest. But it never showed signs of hatching. Must be waiting for the right moment."
"Oh…" Ochette said as she knelt down by the egg as she held it in her embrace. As she did, the egg started to shake as the shell started to crack before it broke open, showing a small baby sea serpent.
"Mrao…mrao!" it cried out.
"My word…a baby sea dragon." Miles said.
"She's so cute." Fluttershy said.
"Not really much of a protector though." Pit said.
"Well one beast is better than no beast." Caspar said. "So…what do we call it?"
"Hmm…Acta. Her name is Acta." Ochette said.
It was later that night that the group sat on the beach eating some roasting fish and other seafood as they bonded with Acta.
"We may not have found Cateracta…but her child will be a great asset in our quest." Marth said.
"Yeah…though…this dark hunter…" Blake said. "Do you think that they're…trying to slay all the creatures?"
"It could just be a coincidence…but not that strange of one." Iida said.
"Meaning it's almost like a race to get to the remaining creatures first." Sanji said.
"How can someone…do something like that?" Ash K said. "Cateracta never hurt anyone, yet they…We need to find the rest of them and fast."
"And we will…so let's double our efforts!" Jexi said as the rest of the heroes cheered.
Ochette finds the Creature of Legend, Cateracta….or, at least, her child. Alas, Cateracta no longer resides in the world of the living and her child is too young to achieve her ancestral mission. But the group's spirits remain high as they continue their journey. Somehow, they always seem to know, that it'll all work out.
