GK: Katie's Quest
Chapter 10: A Dangerous Case Of Deja Vu
Katie had seen Danny running away from Dash and lost it.
"HOW DARE THAT CREEP TRY AND HURT HIM AGAIN?!..."She thought, enraged.
She briefly forgot about all her calming exercises...and lost it!
"AHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!..."Katie yelled, as she felt the morph.
Her fair skin turned green, her blonde hair turned black, her blue eyes were now red and she grew over ten feet tall.
And she was really, REALLY angry now!
"DASHHHHHHHHHHHH!..."Monster Katie roared, as she stomped through the halls until she spotted the two boys.
Or rather, she spotted Dash in the process of bullying Danny.
"ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR!..."Monster Katie roared, as one of those boys became pale and feared for his life.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! THE MONSTER IS BACK! I'M TOO YOUNG AND PRETTY TO DIE!..."Dash screamed, as he tried to run away.
"GET BACK HERE!..."Monster Katie roared, as she ran after him.
Unaware that someone was going after her to stop Katie before she went too far.
With Danny
"Darn it, Katie!..."Danny said, as his eyes glowed green.
He quickly ran inside a locker, changed forms and phased out. He then went after the rampaging Katie, who was chasing after Dash.
However, all the other students and teachers saw her and panicked.
"AHHHHHHHHH! GHOST?!..."Someone pointed and screamed.
"No, but close..."Danny sighed, as he wondered what to tell them.
As everyone fled, Danny ran into his friends who were ready to help.
"Danny!..."Tucker yelled.
"I knew it, we shouldn't have trusted her!..."Sam said, as if it validated her objections.
Danny frowned.
"Katie only morphed because Dash was being a jerk again. Anyway, we gotta get her out of here and calm her down before somebody gets hurt..."He said.
"How?..."Tucker asked.
"I'll try and get her back to her senses again, before she flattens Dash like a pancake..."Danny said, as he flew off.
"May as well kick her out..."Sam muttered, seeing this as proof they should cut ties with her.
Her friends, however, disagreed.
"And then what? Let her cause damage somewhere else instead?..."Tucker said, speaking sarcastically.
In response, Sam just grumble quietly to herself.
Meanwhile
"GET BACK HERE, YOU ROTTEN LITTLE BULLY!..."Monster Katie shouted, as she chased him.
"MOMMY!..."Dash shouted, as he tried to escape.
Katie, however, wouldn't let him.
"GET BACK HERE!..."She yelled.
"Why is this happening to me?!..."Dash whimpered, as the monster kept chasing after him.
"BECAUSE YOU'RE A BIG JERK!..."The monstrous girl shouted, as she tried to corner him.
She used her speed in an almost cartoonish fashion that appeared like teleporting...but it got even wackier.
She spun around like a tornado, racing past the jock, gathering dust, garbage, and other miscellaneous times that ended up covering the mean jock.
"What the heck?! Gross!..."Dash complained, only to recall that he was still in danger.
The monster girl ended up blocking the mean jock from any potential escape.
"Leave me alone! Have mercy!..."Dash whimpered, as he was soon cornered by the monster.
"YOU DESERVE NO MERCY, YOU JERK!..."Monster Katie said, as she grabbed him and roared into his face.
That did it.
Dash fainted into her grasp and unintentionally wet himself. As the world turned black and his body limped, the boy stained his pants yellow, much to the disgust and irritation of his captor.
"Coward!..."Monster Katie snarled, before she noticed what he just did, much to her disgust.
"EWW! GROSS!..."She yelled, even angrier now and letting go of the jock to shake her hand clean of the liquids.
However, before her tantrum could continue, a certain ghost boy flew in and grabbed Dash by his shoulders and away from Monster Katie's path.
"KATIE! ENOUGH!..."Danny yelled, as he reached her.
The monster girl turned around and growled at him.
"RRRRRROOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!..."She snarled, and roared loudly at him.
Danny sighed.
Seeing the damage done, he decided to move the fight someplace else, and through his experience, knew how.
"I see that you're in no mood to talk...as usual. So, we'll just let it out..."Danny said, as he decided to up his game.
"LEAVE ME ALONE! I'M HANDLING IT!..."Monster Katie yelled, as she got more aggressive.
Seeing that she won't go peacefully, Danny decided to tire her out a bit. Going into the ground, he dodged a slash of the monster girl's claws, reappearing behind her and grabbing her shoulders.
"Come on, you need some time in the corner..."The ghost boy said, as he grabbed onto the monstrous girl.
"HUH?! LET ME GO! I DON'T WANNA TALK!..."Monster Katie shouted, as she swung her hand at him.
However, the ghost boy was now used to her attacks and managed to maneuver and avoid her attempt to grab him. She reached behind her, but Danny was too small and in a spot her arms could not reach, putting her at his mercy as she suplexed her with all his strength.
With ghostly powers, Danny managed to get a grip on her yet again, not letting go this time.
"Come on, let's take this outside..."He said, as he got a better grasp on her before phasing out of there.
With both Danny and the monster gone, Dash regained consciousness.
"Uh...what happened? And why did I dream about Danny Phantom and that ugly monster?..."He asked out loud.
Just then, a piece of ceiling landed on him and hit him straight on the head, knocking him out yet again.
"I want...my...mama..."Dash let out in a delirious way, before passing out again.
Elsewhere
Danny had dragged Katie's monster form to an abandoned dealership.
That was the closest place that he could get as the monster girl was still hulking out. All the while, the monster girl kept throwing a tantrum. She slammed into the ground, turned around, and growled at the ghost boy.
"LET ME GO! LET ME AT HIM! HE DESERVES WHAT'S COMING TO HIM!..."Monster Katie shouted, as she thrashed in his arms.
"Believe me, no one wants to see Dash 's karma debt be collected more than I do...but it's not right this way..."Danny said.
"BUT HE DESERVES IT!..."She yelled.
"True, but is this how anyone wants it done? I know the guy's the worst thing imaginable but there has to be a better way to handle things..."He said, trying to reason with Katie.
The monster girl roared, ignoring the ghost boy. It was like talking to a brick wall, except this one was all dressed up for Halloween, curse and all.
"LET ME AT HIM!..."Monster Katie shouted, wanting to find Dash and hit him.
Danny groaned, as Katie kept wriggling against his grasp.
This was getting nowhere, only wasting time.
Danny sighed, putting his mind to work as he tried to think of a way to calm the girl down. Given the time they spent together now, there had to be something that could calm the girl down.
And he had an idea on how to do that.
"Let's see if I can use her still clingy infatuation to my advantage..."He went, as he tried to use his ice powers for something.
He created a large ice statue of Danny Fenton, the sight of it calming her down.
"Da...nny..." Katie growled, calming down.
"It's working..." He said in relief, but kept his guard up just in case.
To his relief, Katie slowly morphed back to her human form. Her hair changed back to blonde, her eyes were blue and her whole body shrunk back until she was back to normal.
"Ugh...what happened?..."Katie said, as she grabbed her head.
"I'll give you one guess..." Danny Phantom said to her, as she gestured to their surroundings.
Katie looked around, seeing the abandoned dealership, she recalled her headache, a certain sensation and the presence of the ghost boy.
Seeing him made her realize what just happened and how it happened.
"Please tell me that I didn't?..."Katie asked, looking upset.
"Sorry, but you did..."Danny said, looking serious.
Katie's eyes swelled with tears and she feared the worst.
"Please tell me that no one got hurt?..."She begged, not wanting that on her conscious.
"Good news, the worse you did was probably made Dash wet his pants, hopefully it ends there..."Danny said in a half joking way.
"BTW...you might wanna wash your hands..."He said, adding another set of bad news.
"Gross!..."She went, now desperately wanting to rinse out her hands with soap.
Katie immediately started wiping her hand on the end of her pants in hopes of getting rid of the slight wetness from her hands.
"Here's some hand sanitizer..."Danny said, as he pulled it out from his pocket.
Katie sent him a confused look.
"Can't be too careful these days..."Danny said, as he offered it to her.
Katie wasted no time to disinfect her hands and even managed to find a source of water to wash her hands for good measure. As Katie cleaned her hands, the ghost boy tried to make light of the situation.
"At least no one got seriously hurt, that shows improvement..." Danny said, trying to lift her spirits.
It did little to help as the blonde girl cried.
This caused the ghost boy to sympathize with the Kaboom girl as she had an emotional breakdown right now.
"Not again! What's wrong with me! I actually thought I was doing better, but I lost it when I saw what Dash was doing to Danny..."Katie bemoaned, as she covered her face in shame with her now thankfully clean hands.
The ghost boy saw this and felt sorry for her.
"I thought she had control there..."Danny thought, wishing that he could do something to help as Katie kept crying.
"I can't stand this! It's one step forward, TWO steps back! Why is this so hard?! I'm pretty much sabotaging myself!..."She said, feeling miserable.
"Come, on, no one got hurt. So, it's not too bad..."The ghost boy said, trying to get her to calm down.
He recalled the statue of Danny Fenton he made, firing a ghost ray at it and letting the heat cause it to melt quickly as they speak.
Thankfully Katie was too busy crying to notice what Danny did to his own ice statue of himself.
"What happened exactly that made you go Queen Kong again?..."Danny asked.
Katie stopped crying for a moment, but she was still upset. She tried to think back to the last thing she experienced before she transformed like that.
"I don't know...it was lunch time...and that idiot Dash was trying to bully Danny again. I saw what that creep was doing to him...and I saw red.." Katie said, as
Danny blinked, not expecting that answer. He then realized what this is all about.
"So, she morphed because she was worried about me? In another situation, I'd probably almost be touched if it weren't for the fact that she'd might level the place if we're not careful..."He thought, knowing that things are getting out of hand.
"Look Katie, I know Dash is a jerk who takes out his frustrations on me, doesn't put forth any effort into pretty much anything remotely constructive, forces nerds to do all of his work for him, uses his football star status to get away with practically anything... thinks about bullying kids non-stop, is always coasting through high school at what he calls the peak of his life and-..."He went, only to pause.
"Uh...where was I going with this?..."He asked.
"You were trying to find someway to either cheer me up or convince me that football playing gorilla isn't a COMPLETE waste of space who deserves a beat down..."Katie said, frowning at how he wasn't doing a good job of it.
"Right, right..."Danny said, as he tried to get back on track.
"My point is... you can't go and beat him up since you can't let yourself look worse than him..."He said.
"I don't want to... but I couldn't keep it in..." Katie said, feeling guilty for losing control like that.
"Katie...look, I know it's tough...trying to stay in control all the time...but you're not alone in that..."He tried.
"I doubt that..."Katie went, crying bitterly.
"Look, I know what you are going through..."Danny said, but the blonde girl didn't seem to believe him.
"Don't lie. You don't have to worry about turning green, ugly and deadly just for being in a bad mood..."Katie said, feeling ashamed of herself.
He almost laughed at that, recalling past experiences.
"Look...when I...first became a ghost...I had trouble controlling my powers too..."Danny said, giving a censored version of those events.
"You did?..."Katie asked.
Danny nodded.
"Yeah...I had trouble with the basics...parts of me went invisible without meaning too, I dropped a ton of stuff, including 30 beakers at one point...it was so bad, my pants actually became intangible and fell down..."He said, feeling embarrassed as he said this.
"For real?..."Katie asked with a slight giggle.
"Yeah, not one of my finest moments. I will admit to not looking back fondly at them..."Danny said, not liking relieving that.
However, he felt like he had to try and help Katie feel better.
"I can see why..." Katie said, a little amused by that story.
Seeing that she stopped crying, Danny kept talking to her.
"So, feeling better?..."He asked.
"I think so..."Katie said, wiping a tear away.
"So... don't give up. If someone like me can get better control over his powers over time, then I know that you can too. You just need to be patient and not give up. You'll get it in time...just hang in there..."He said in an encouraging way.
"Okay..."Katie said, finally calmed down enough to get through the rest of the school day.
"Come on, I'll fly you back to school..."Danny said.
"Okay...I guess that playing hooky isn't really an option..."Katie said.
Danny picked Katie up, and soon flew her back to Casper High. Thankfully, not too much time has passed since her incident.
So, they didn't need to worry about a tardy...hopefully.
A little later
Danny soon arrived back to Casper High. He landed behind the gym, made sure no one was looking, and placed Katie down.
"Here we are..."Danny said.
"Thank you, Danny Phantom..."Katie said, glad she still had his support.
"Anytime..."Danny said, thankful that things didn't make a turn for the worst like Sam said it would.
"You better go before people spot you..." Katie said, knowing that he has a huge fanc lub here.
"Good call. Anyway, you think you'll be okay for the rest of the day?..."Danny asked.
"No, but I have no choice..."Katie muttered.
"You'll be fine. Just remember what we talked about. And don't worry, I'll help out if you need me again..."Danny said.
"Thanks..."Katie said, sounding grateful.
Danny soon flew away, and pretend to go far, as to not give Katie hints to his real identity. He landed in the boy's room.
He changed back to his human form and walked out of the bathroom. He then went to Katie, who was still contemplating what happened.
"Hey Katie..."Danny said, acting like he was just seeing her.
Katie flinched.
"D-Danny?! Oh, uh...hey. Hi there..."She said, surprised to see him right after her relapse.
"Uh...I guess you're busy..."He said.
Katie felt a little bit ashamed of herself from her latest mishap.
"So...uh...what brings you here of all places?..."She said, looking down.
"Well, I hear the screaming and shouts of a monster and kinda spotted a giant green girl yelling angrily at someone..."Danny said.
"You saw that?..."She said, upset that her crush/ex saw her like that.
"It...was kinda hard not to..."Danny said, as he pointed to the hall that was still damaged.
"I'm so sorry that you had to see me like that again..."Katie said, now mortified that she was caught red-handed.
"Wanna tell me what set you off?..."Danny asked, playing dumb.
"Dash-..."Katie tried, but Danny cut her off.
To her surprise, Danny didn't seem all that mad at her for losing her cool.
"Say no more... I understand now..."He said.
"You do?..."Katie asked.
"Yes, and believe me...no one has been angered more by that jerk than me...so I think I can understand why you lost it.."He said.
"Yeah...I'm just glad Danny Phantom was around and stopped me before I went too far. Even if that Dash deserves to be punished for bullying you...but I know I went too far..."Katie said, still feeling ashamed of herself.
"At least no one got hurt...that's what matters..."Danny said, trying to make sure she was still emotionally stable.
Before the blonde girl could respond to that, Tucker and Sam soon spotted then and called out to them.
"Danny!..."They both went, concerned about their friend.
"It's all good now, guys..."Danny said.
"Katie's back to normal. She got angry for my sake and loss a bit of control of herself, but thankfully Danny Phantom took care of things..."He said, trying to fill them in on what happened without exposing his secret identity.
Both Tucker and Sam caught on quick and played along to keep up the act.
Sam saw Katie and glared at her.
"Katie..."She said, sending her a disapproving look.
Katie felt terrible, but Danny glared at his gothic friend.
"You're not helping giving her that look, Sam. It's not Katie's fault Dash is such a jerk and has a talent in peeving people off..."He said, trying to keep the peace between everyone.
"That doesn't mean that she's completely off the hook in my book..."Sam said, still glaring at the Kaboom girl.
"It's not as if I asked for any of this to happen in the first place. I'd give anything to be one of those teens who's biggest worries is trying to not get zits and deal with pop quizzes, not turning into the She-Hulk's deformed twin..."Katie said, looking down in shame and misery.
Danny and Tucker both how Katie reacted and her change in demeanor.
"She really does look like she feel bad..."Tucker thought.
"This is definitely a big improvement from her not being aware of her curse, but now I just feel bad for her..."Danny thought.
"Look...you lost control, but you're back to normal now and no one got hurt. I say that's still an improvement than before. You just gotta keep training and learn to filter out Dash's stupidity..."Danny said.
"Yeah..."Katie said, trying to calm down.
"How about we all head back to class before the teachers come looking for all of us?..."Danny said.
"That sounds good to me..."Katie said, while Sam stayed silent and kept her eyes squarely on the Katie.
Katie noticed the goth girl's eyes on her, but said nothing as to not escalate things any further and get on with her life.
School continued since Casper High was more or less used to these kinds of events by now. Evens so, Katie still felt uneasy.
"Just relax, Katie. You're in control of your own feelings. Both Danny and Phantom are right...just hang in there..."She thought, trying to better manage herself.
While also trying not to make eye contact Dash or even look at him for the rest of the school day today either...which was kinda easy since he was sent home today.
Later that day
Katie went home directly after school.
Once there, she saw her family and they immediately went to ask her about her day.
"Hello Katie, how was school today?..."Her mother asked.
Katie looked down and turned away from her mother. Her parents saw her expression and could immediately deduced that something must have happened.
"Sweetie, what happened?..."Her father asked.
Katie sighed.
"Mom, Dad. I messed up at school today..."She said, as she explained what had happened.
Katie's parents and her cousin heard this and could already guess what happened to her.
"So...you morphed again?..."Her mother asked, looking uneasy to hear this.
"I'm sorry...there was this jerk who was picking on Danny and I...I just...lost it..."Katie said, feeling guilty.
"I...I see..."Her mother said, sympathizing with her daughter as she saw that Katie truly regretting her actions.
Her father felt the exact same and also wondered how the Fenton boy got involved again.
"Exactly what happened?..."Katie's mother asked.
"Like I said...a bully was being mean to Danny and I..."Katie paused, but her family could guess the rest.
"I see...well, Sweetie...I know that it's tough...but you can't let your emotions get the better of you. You have to remember what Doctor Shen and your anger management coach taught you..."Mrs. Kaboom said.
"I know, Mom. Danny and Phantom already told me...I just lost control that one time..."Katie said.
Tiffany heard this and frowned.
"Sounds more like you just wanted an excuse to cut loose..."She went cynically.
John and Margaret heard this and frowned.
"Katie, don't listen to that. She's just in a bad mood since Mitch sent over the rest of her stuff and she's been in a bad mood since their last call. She's just taking it out on you..."Her mother said, trying to be encouraging.
"She's right, Pud'n. Your cousin's just trying to get a rise out of you..."Her father said, trying to help his daughter from morphing out of anger.
Katie heard this and sighed.
"It's fine, I'm okay. I've got thicker skin than that, metaphorically speaking..."She said. "I'm gonna have a lot to tell Dr. Shen during out next session...minus me turning big and green..."She said, not looking forward to this.
"Everything will work out in the end, Darling. Changes like this just takes time to adjust..."Mrs. Kaboom said, encouraging her daughter to continue doing her best to improve herself.
"Your mother right, Princess. I know things won't be easy...but we're here for you..."Her father said, making his daughter smile slightly at that.
"Thank, Mom. Thanks, Dad..." Katie said, feeling a little better.
"Anyway, I'm making Chicken Dumplings for dinner tonight, with apple pie for dessert..."Mrs. Kaboom said.
"Sounds delicious, Mom..."Katie said. "I'm gonna head upstairs to take a nap, if it's alright..."Katie said, feeling tired.
"Alright, Sweetie. You try and rest up and we'll let you know when dinner is ready..."Mr. Kaboom said.
"Right..."Katie said, heading upstairs towards her bedroom.
Once she was out of sight, both the Kaboom parents sighed, but were proud that Katie is making such a huge effort to change herself for the better. However, they were also disappointed in her niece who was still sulking in the corner.
"Tiffany, did you really have to say that to her? She's going through enough as it is!..."Margaret scolded, sounding angry.
"And you of all people should know what she's going through, since you two are in the same boat..."John said, glaring at her.
"You think I don't know that?! I get reminded of that every time I look in the mirror and remember that we're both freaks..."Tiffany said bitterly.
"Okay, that's enough feeling sorry for yourself. It's one think to be all sulky but you have no right to take your bad mood out on Katie...especially since she's trying very hard to get her temper under control..."John said in a lecturing tone. "And all you have been doing lately is sulk and moan. I know that you are going through a tough time too but you're already a grown woman and need to make an effort too..."He said.
Tiffany said nothing, but she avoided eye contact with him.
"I...should go and unpack what Mitch sent me..."Tiffany said, as she carried several of her items to her room, mostly to get away from her aunt and uncle.
Seeing this, the middle aged couple shook their heads.
"Poor Tiffany. I know she's hurting a lot...especially since a divorce with Mitch seems likely...I just wish that she'd stop acting out in such a way..."Margaret said, wishing they could do more.
"All we can do is give her and Katie our love and support...and reprimand them in a constructive way for their own good...all the while...have faith that things will get better..."John said, wanting to believe that things will work out in the end.
The Kaboom parents went back to their respective tasks, worried about their daughter and niece and both hoping that they will get better soon.
