Chapter One
That morning, Raina woke up earlier than usual. The sky wasn't even bright yet. The cold morning breeze blew in through the window. She threw the covers off, and sat up, shivering.
She stared out of the window, looking over the jungle that spread around the university. She felt fresh, as she sat up and looked out the window. The sky was just beginning to lighten up. She changed into her running clothes, and rummaged in her bag for her earphones.
She ran nine laps around the University's large in-house flower-nursery, and was finishing the tenth lap, when she saw the freshly bloomed flowers in the garden near the nursery. She stopped to pick a few flowers and take a little round inside the garden, her feet dancing to the beat of the songs playing in her ears.
She was happy, cheerful, optimistic. Too bad that it was her last day in the world.
As she finished her round in the garden, the sun had come up well, and yellow sunlight was sprinkled over everything. But as soon as she stepped out the shade of the big banyan by the gate of the garden, she was flooded with light, as though the sun was notched up to his full brightness.
She threw up her arms to protect her eyes, blinded by the sudden flash of light. She stood where she was, feeling the warmth of the light raise the heat of air. As the light receded, she slowly uncovered her eyes, and looked around.
The road now in front of her was completely different.
It was lined with trees, different than she'd seen in the jungle. The air smelled wild. The sun had gone in, settling a dim, shadowiness over the road.
And she looked up ahead to see a large building looming up. It looked very familiar, like something out of a dream. As her gaze ran down, the entrance came into view – which was when she recognized where exactly she was.
There was a symbol on the door, gleaming golden, which she recognized immediately.
Men of Letters.
"I'm at the bunker." She whispered to herself, absently, softly, as she stared at that door. "Men of letters bunker. Supernatural."
Her breath was short and frequent, as though she'd run a kilometer in a second. Her arms were trembling, and she was shivering at the suddenly increased cold.
"This has got to be a dream. A very colorful dream." She kept blinking, as if she could blink away the scene in front of her. Somehow, everything in her vicinity was quiet, as if something were waiting in the shadows.
After a few deep breaths that she forced herself to take, she looked around, taking a measure of the situation around her. And then, having made some decision, she took a step forward, towards the bunker.
And as she walked towards the door, something sighed in the shadows, and suddenly, although Raina did not see it, there was a ripple of golden light in the trees behind her.
Author's Note:
This is one of my pet projects that I'm finally re-uploading, after much editing, and debating with myself. This is an Intro chapter, but things start happening in the next chapter! I'm going to try to upload soon, since some chapters are done writing.
