Chapter 1: Artemis Breaks her Vow (And Good Things Come from It)
Artemis, daughter of Zeus, had asked her father to ensure that she would never have any children. Zeus, loving this spunky girl, gave her what she wanted. Unlike Athena something could happen and she would break her vow. For centuries she, and her huntress, killed monsters, mortals, and were the prize of Apollon. Aphrodite hated her for turning her back on love and Athena thought she had a good thing going with those huntresses.
Little did Artemis know was the Fates were planning something and something big. One night Artemis was out hunting, alone, in England, when something attacked her. Whatever hit her only knocked the wind out of her. She laid on the ground, wondering what had hit her. Four hooded figures appeared and she could tell that they were men.
"Look what we have here," one of them said.
"Oh what a pretty little morsel."
They laughed and Artemis was just about to release her divine form when several streams of light came through and hit them. And then a large stag appeared and charged at them. Artemis couldn't believe that an animal that was sacred to her was making them run. The stag approached her, bowed, and nuzzled her cheek.
"Thanks," she told it.
The stag backed away and changed into a man.
"Sorry about that," he said. "Those damn Death Eaters will rape any woman they find. Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," Artemis said and the lines of Fate had been drawn.
That night Artemis broke her vow of eternal maidenhood. When she left she blessed him with a painless death if he should ever die. Unknown to anyone she was pregnant and the child she carried would be the light of the whole Wizarding world. It would also be the light of the gods as well. Nine months later she summoned Hecate and her brother.
"What's wrong?" Apollon asked her.
"I'm going into labor," Artemis told him.
"I will-."
"No, it was willing," Artemis told him. "I will not have you kill someone because you thought the wrong thing. I can feel that the child is a girl and I want you to keep her a secret. Until the time has come that she will be strong enough. Please, do this for your big sister."
"I will," Apollon said. "I make a vow on the River Styx that I will protect my first full niece from harm and I will tell no one."
"I, Hecate, make a vow on the River Styx that I won't tell anyone about her until she's strong enough."
The sound of the river accepting the vow filled the forest and then Artemis gave birth.
She was name Selene and she had to be the most beautiful baby that they had ever seen. She had silver eyes and black hair. At that moment she felt the same emotion that Leto felt when she and Apollon had been born. At once she vowed that she would fight for her daughter's right to live. Artemis at once blessed her daughter with mastery over the bow, the ability to change into any hunting animal that she wanted, instinct and keen intelligence and intellect.
She wasn't going to have a dumb daughter and Artemis was a very intelligent person.
Hecate, upon hearing that the father was a wizard, blessed Selene with mastery over all forms of magic. Apollon granted her excellent health, the sight of a seer, and the ability to heal. All three of them, her mother, uncle, and magical guardian, felt that she was going to have a hard life. After all, she is a demigod. Hecate delivered Selene to James Potter, when Lily was gone. James was shocked to hear that he had a daughter, but something about her just told him that she was his.
He made her his heir, giving her a trust vault so that she would have money to attend Hogwarts. When Lily found out that James had cheated on him she was mad. But the moment that she saw Selene she fell in-love with this tiny person. Being unable to have a child of her own she decided that this child would also be adopted into the Evans family. Selene was just that kind of baby. Everyone just loved her. A few months later a prophecy was given and the Potter's went into hiding.
Despite it all Selene was loved.
On Halloween Lord Voldemort attacked the Potter's. How he figured they were the ones that the prophecy spoke of showed how cruel Fate was. How anyone figured out that the prophecy was talking about the Potter's only the Fates know. He killed James and then he targeted Lily. Out of her pure love for her daughter, and the fact that it was a Full Moon, he was defeated. The only thing that showed that Selene had survived the curse was a cut on her forehead, shaped like a crescent moon.
It marked her as not only a child of Artemis but also the heroine that defeated Voldemort. The only God that sensed something happened was Hades, who sensed Voldemort evading him. He would have his revenge. Sirius Black came to see what had happened and out of his need for revenge he did something that landed him in Azkaban. Selene was taken by Hagrid to live with the Dursley's, thinking that she was Lily Potter's daughter. Due to the fact that they didn't share blood the wards didn't work. The Headmaster never knew that they weren't protecting Selene from any followers that still wanted her dead.
It was only her divine blood that gave her any form of protection.

A/N: The only two goddesses that can enter Britain is Hecate and Artemis. Artemis won't come back as she doesn't want to alert the gods that she has a daughter. Hecate will be the only goddess that will be keeping a close watch on Selene. Personally I find this to be a fun story to write about and she's exactly like her mother, spunky.
