A/N: I completely understand the frustration of the Cullen's seemingly gullible front at the moment, especially considering they are vampires and Carlisle's vast medical history, alongside some of their human pasts. However, there wouldn't be much of a story if they were to solve all of Bella's problems straight away. Also, abuse victims can be very good at hiding things from those around them, and we all know CPS can be particularly bad when looking into cases of abuse also. In Bella's case, the Cullen's haven't been in town long to know her well enough to know what is normal or not, and some of Bella's symptoms such as low weight and anxiety could pass to outsiders as mental health issues rather than abuse initially. Strategically, Bella is going to hide injuries with clothing etc. I also wanted to remind everyone that Alice's visions don't work on Bella in this story, much the same as Edward's gift, so she can't see anything that is happening with Bella, obviously adding to their lack of knowledge on what is going on. I need everything this way in order to run the story the way I am imagining. Don't worry, they will figure it out eventually! ;)

Happy reading, and thanks again for all the favorites, reviews and follows.

Rosalie found herself relaxing when Bella disappeared with Edward to the second floor of the house. She sighed deeply and Emmett paused the video game on the TV, turning to look at her. "Everything okay, Rose?" He asked her.

Rosalie was sure Bella was out of earshot now and moved to sit on the couch next to Alice. Esme came back into the front room, waiting to hear what she was going to say although she would have heard her just fine from the kitchen. She knew Edward would be able to hear everything from where he was with Bella.

"I'm not sure how that appointment went." She began. "Carlisle asked her about the injury under her eye. She told him she fell down the stairs and that she had also hurt her rib. He sent her for an x-ray, and there is a rib broken. When she took her jacket off...she was extremely thin. I don't think she has an eating disorder...I don't know. Her blood sugar was low, but she said she had been focusing on her school work more than food, and that her stomach bug had taken away her appetite. She was anxious during the whole appointment, and the entire time she was around Carlisle." Rosalie swallowed deeply, trying to process her own words just as much as the rest of the family. "And when we were leaving...Carlisle told me not to let her go home, that he needed to make a few phone calls."

A small crease was forming between Esme's delicate eyebrows. "Not let her go home? Does Carlisle think she has an eating disorder?"

Rosalie shrugged. "I don't know, I couldn't read him. He wouldn't make eye contact with me much of the appointment. I don't know what we're supposed to do."

Alice frowned and carefully wrapped her arms around her torso. "Bella is quite thin, but I haven't noticed an issue with food? She seemed very eager to eat those cookies. In regards to her injury...she is quite clumsy, isn't she?"

Rosalie nodded. "I'd say she is yes, more than some of the other humans. I don't know if Carlisle is calling her father just to try and get some more information out of him, or trying to find someone that may be able to help her with a food issue. I didn't pick up on anything else going on at the appointment."

The room was silent after that. Emmett tried to go back to the video game with Jasper, and the Cullen girls were listening to Edward and Bella on the floor above discuss their interest in books. It seemed they both liked the classics and that had initiated a debate.

Esme's phone rang then, breaking the silence. She stood quickly, moving to stand by the window looking out to the forest. "Carlisle?" Her voice sounded strained. "Why are we keeping the poor girl hostage?"

Rosalie was glad Esme had gotten straight to the point. She was eager to know what was going on.

"It's okay," She heard Carlisle say on the other end of the line. "I needed to talk to her father about the injuries I noticed. I wanted to hear his story on how they'd happened. I also spoke to CPS to see if they would do a wellbeing check to the Swan residence, just to make sure the story checks out. They may also be able to refer into a mental health service if they see reason for this. I've emailed Seattle Children's for their input on that also. CPS will be arranging a visit with Bella's dad during the week. She's free to go when she asks."

Rosalie pondered on Carlisle's words for a few moments. Did he not believe that Bella had fallen down the stairs? Rosalie also wasn't sure if a mental health service would be helpful. It wasn't something Rosalie sensed Bella needed, but then Carlisle had more experience with that sort of stuff than she did.

Esme let out a sigh at Carlisle's words, seemingly reassured that she wouldn't have to try and keep Bella from leaving. "Okay, what time will you be home?"

"Around 8pm." Carlisle told her, telling her he loved her and would see her shortly before ending the call.

"What do you think, Rose?" Alice asked, looking to Rosalie to see what input she had on Carlisle's words.

"I don't know...If Carlisle senses something, then I trust him. I just didn't get the feeling Bella has an eating disorder, and I don't know if...her story checks out regarding the fall, but then I can't see why she would lie about it either." Rosalie was perplexed, but there was one thing she was certain of. They were all too caught up in the world of Bella Swan to leave her alone now. Bella was making her way into the Cullen family whether they liked it or not, and Rosalie would be one of the first to defend and come to her aid if she needed it. A part of her cared for the girl upstairs flipping through a book with Edward, and that terrified her.

"I would advise that everyone watch her more closely at school, just in case." Esme suggested. "I'm sure CPS will keep Carlisle updated, and we will go from there."

Everyone hummed in agreement, and Edward gave it a few moments after the conversation ended before bringing Bella back down the stairs.

"I really do need to be getting home now," She was saying as they got to the bottom step. "Ch-my dad, he will be needing food when he gets home from work."

Esme frowned at Bella's words. "Do you cook at home, Bella?"

"Uh, yeah." Bella answered, looking away from Edward to look at Esme. "Dad works hard and long hours. I don't want him worrying about food, and I quite enjoy the cooking."

Esme smiled softly. "That's kind of you, Bella. He must be very appreciative."

"Yes." Bella nodded. "Is it okay if someone drives me home now?"

Edward reached and grabbed his keys from the bowl next to the door. "I'll drive you, have you got everything?"

Although Bella nodded, Rosalie stood and moved over to them. "Don't forget your bag in my car, Bella. Your prescription too." Rosalie grabbed her own car keys, moving to the door. "I'll grab them for you on the way out."

Bella turned to Esme before they got to the door. "Thank you...for having me over. It was nice, the cookies too."

Esme came over and pulled Bella into a hug, smiling down at the girl warmly. "You're welcome anytime, dear."

"Uh. I'll see you guys soon." Bella waved a hand towards Alice, Emmett and Jasper, who all waved at her quietly as they left.

As Edward went to the garage to get his car, Rosalie grabbed Bella's belongings from the front seat of her BMW.

Bella was awkwardly standing on the gravel driveaway, wringing her hands together again. As Rosalie passed her belongings to her, she smiled. "Thank you again, Rosalie, for coming with me today."

Rosalie nodded. "It's no bother, whatever you need. Get home safe, and I'll see you in school." Rosalie wondered when Bella would find out that CPS would be visiting her home. It felt strange keeping it from Bella when she was the one involved, but Rosalie knew it had to be done.

Rosalie waited for Bella to get in Edward's car before heading back into the house.

She pondered on what the next week would bring.
