Months later

"Congratulations! It's a girl!" the Healer announced.

Spencer and Hermione were sitting in the exam room at Alchemia's magical hospital that was located in Virginia. Hermione and Spencer had decided together that since this baby was likely to have magic that they would go to a magical hospital and luckily there was one close to where they lived as it would have been impossible to explain why they had gone to a hospital that was so far away, like in another state. Luckily for them there were more then a dozen wizarding hospitals in America, but then the American wizarding population was larger then anywhere else so that wasn't really all that surprising.

"It is?" asked Hermione lighting up.

"It is," the Healer assured her with a smile. "I take it you were hoping for a girl?"

"Yes, as we already have two boys, twins and so we were hoping for a little girl this time and it looks like we are going to get what we wanted most," Reid answered calmly. Hermione felt a warm little glow at the way that her husband referred to her sons as his, which meant that he must genuinely love them that way as his words had come out so naturally, with no hesitation.

"So have you already thought of names?" asked the Healer.

"I told Spencer that he could name her if it was a girl and he has yet to tell me what he has decided on," Hermione said looking at her husband.

"I wanted to wait to see if it was a girl before saying anything as I didn't want to jinx it as illogical as I know that sounds," Spencer said.

"It's not illogical at all," Hermione told him. "I've read how a lot of people don't want to discuss baby names until they know the sex and it is just one of the many strange things about us humans, whether we are magical or not. So are you going to reveal the name you decided on now?"

"Okay," Spencer said "I decided several months ago to make the middle name Diana after my mother." Spencer paused.
"And the first," Hermione finally asked, when her husband didn't continue.
"Leia," Reid finally revealed looking at his wife to see if she was going to object to the name.

"Leia Diana, now there's a beautiful name," the Healer said.

"Thank you," said Spencer turning in his direction blushing at the Healer's sincere compliment. "What do you think?" Reid asked his wife of just five months.

"It's a lovely name and so that is what we will name her," Hermione said, being sincere, causing Spencer to beam at her with just a tinge of relief in his expression. "You chose Leia because you love the old Star Wars movies didn't you? You always did say that Princess Leia was your favorite character."

"I did," Reid admitted calmly, "but favorite character or not I wouldn't have chosen the name if I genuinely didn't think it was a very pretty name, just as I wouldn't have used Diana if I didn't love it, my mother's name or not."

"Well, Leia Diana is doing just fine and seems to be developing normally, so you are right on schedule for your due date," the Healer said. "Plus you are in excellent health, and that will only help you with the rest of your pregnancy and when it is actually time to give birth."

"Is it possible for Hermione to have twins again since she already has a set?" asked Spencer already knowing the answer, but wanting the Healer's opinion.

"Are they identical or fraternal?" asked the Healer.

"Identical," both Hermione and Reid answered at the same time.

"Well, most Muggle doctors or Healers for that matter have no idea what causes identical twins, although in the case of fraternal a woman's ovaries releases more then one egg and sometimes they both get fertilized and therefore you get fraternal twins instead of a singleton. The release of more then one egg is called hyperovulation and the medical experts still aren't sure why this happens, although age, height and weight seem to be linked to having multiples, well so long as a woman gets pregnant naturally and they aren't using fertility drugs. As a Healer or a doctor if you prefer I have to tell you that in the case of identical twins there is no medical reason that a single egg splits into two, three or even more although it does happen sometimes. However, from personal experience I can tell you that sometimes identical twins do seem to run in families despite all medical evidence to the contrary for I have delivered up to five sets of them all from the same woman and her husband and it's happened several other times to in over my 40 years as a Healer. Perhaps one day either the Muggles or us magical folks will solve the mystery of why some families have identical twins, but that is not likely to happen for sometime yet and maybe not for decades or more."

"There is still so much that science can't explain," Reid said his respect for the Healer increasing several notches as he appeared to be very knowledgeable in his field.

"This is very true, but to answer your question, since Hermione has already had one set of identical twins it is very possible that she could have another set, although I can't give you the odds on that as for all we know at this time it could just be a fluke or a one time event. Now if you wanted, say another half a dozen children after this one then the odds of having another set of twins increase considerably."

"We don't need that many," Hermione laughed causing both the Healer and Reid to chuckle appreciatively. "Spence and I discussed having one or two more after this, possibly three, but no more then that. If we just happen to have another set of twins in two or three years, then we probably won't have another after that."

"I always wanted a large family, because I was an only child," Spencer explained to the Healer. "It would have been nice to have someone closer to my age to talk to growing up."

"I also was an only child and always wished for a sister, someone I could talk to about anything. I had no friends as a child and I realize that was partly due to my emerging powers as a witch, but it was also largely due to my high level of intelligence."

"Well, I think five or six children will give you the large family that you both wish for and you Hermione are plenty young enough to have that many, even if all you have is one at a time and space then two or three years apart. So long as you maintain your current health level then you should have no problem having that many children."

"Thank you, sir," Spencer told the Healer.

"You're welcome," the Healer told the couple with a smile.

~~~Spencer and Hermione~~~
3 ½ years later
"Spencer, I've been meaning to bring up this subject for some time," Hermione.
The two of them laid in bed together holding each other and every few minutes Spencer would rub his wife's very pregnant belly. This time it was indeed twins, although neither was sure whether they were identical or fraternal as it could be either one since they were both the same sex.
"What subject?" asked Reid. "You should know that you can discuss anything with me."
"Just that it will not be long before Harold and Hugo will be 11 since they are already 9 and I would like them to go to Hogwarts, the same school I attended."
"Are you sure that they are going to get an invitation since they do live in American now?" Spencer asked.
"I already talked to Headmistress McGonagall about that, several years ago actually, once I realized I was falling in love with you and she promised me that she would personally send both twins an invitation since they were down for Hogwarts before we all moved here to America."
"And for Leia and the twins you are now carrying?" asked Reid.
"They should be registered to so long as they inherit my magic, simply because the Granger line is originally British or at least has been for the last several hundred years. Now, once our children grow up and have babies of their own, they will not be contacted by Hogwarts, but by Ilvermorny that is in Massachusetts, but they could still get to go to Hogwarts if the parents contacted the headmistress or master and requested that they be allowed to attend. Transfer students used to be quite common until after the first rise of Voldemort, although it was usually students from places like China and Japan as they don't have a school in those countries, so they are mostly home taught. I'm not sure if any children from America have ever attended, since they do have a school in Massachusetts, though it is possible of course."
"I hate to send them so far away, but I also understand that they need to go to some magical school to get their abilities under conscious control and even if they went to Salem I still wouldn't see them except in the summer and at Christmas," Spencer said.
"Besides, at least in Harold's and Hugo's case they want to go to Hogwarts with their cousins and you can hardly blame them for that," Hermione said. "Harry's and Ginny's oldest sons, who are also twins, although fraternal are around their age and so they will be going to Hogwarts together and be in the same year, though there is no guarantee that they will be in the same house."
"All right then, I'm not going to argue with you and tell you that no they can't go, as I realize that they do need to get their education and while you could teach them here at home, you have another child to look after and soon two more. I figured we would be sending them to some wizarding school once they turned 11 anyway, although I has no idea that you were considering sending them so far away."
"Well, look at it this way, their Uncle Harry will be there to watch over them considering that he teaches defense and he'll make sure they stay out of trouble."
"From all you have told me your brother is something of a trouble magnet," Spencer pointed out.
"Well, that was certainly true when he was younger," Hermione admitted with a little laugh, "but then then headmaster at the time was largely to blame for the trouble that he got into. As much as Dumbledore was respected and revered including by me, he lacked common sense. I'm not denying he was brilliant, but he also tended to move people around like they were chess pieces and a lot of them died as a result. He also believed in second chances and even third and fourth chances and there is nothing wrong with this view, except for the fact that if you don't punish someone when they commit a crime, especially a serious crime, then they go out and commit another. Some of the students deserved to at least be suspended when I was going to school, to teach them that there were serious consequences for their actions, but Dumbledore believed that they were all good kids deep down. A lot of those kids, the Slytherins in particular, parents were Death Eaters and they were expected to follow in their footsteps. Dumbledore, of course, did absolutely nothing about showing those kids who were on the fence that there was another way, a better way."
"I can certainly understand why you have a beef against your former headmaster, especially for the way he dumped Harry at his aunt's and uncle's without bothering to check on him to make sure he was being treated right."
"He just assumed that because Lily was so nice that her older sister would be the same and to me that is truly stupid thinking because can Percy be any different from Fred and George? Just because you are in the same family does not mean you have similar personalities, morals or values."
Spencer nodded for he had met all of the Weasleys by this point and his wife had made a very good point.
"Well, at least you have a more sensible headmistress in charge now," Reid said.
"Which is good or otherwise I might have considered sending my children to Beauxbatons in France because I don't believe I would trust Dumbledore enough to leave my children in his care for nine months of the year and I doubt very much that Harry would have agreed to become a teacher for defense if Dumbledore was still alive as it's not like he needs the money."
"You should have approached me about this sooner, you know," Spencer scolded her gently and Hermione blushed, because he was absolutely correct.
"I should have and I also should have known that you had figured out that any children we have that have the ability to do magic would be going to some magical school, whether here in the States or abroad. I could teach them at home, but they wouldn't get as good an education as somewhere like Hogwarts could give them."
"Not to mention they need to be around other children with the same abilities as social interaction with your peers is important to a child's development," Spencer said. "From now on, I don't want you to be afraid to approach me with anything, okay?"
"Okay," Hermione agreed. "I already knew that you were more sensible then Ron who has quite a temper and the last time I saw him he was still very immature."
Hermione had finally revealed who Harold's and Hugo's dad was to Reid after they had been married for awhile and so Reid just gently held his wife in his arms and kissed her tenderly instead of responding verbally.
Hermione felt so loved by this man that she had met totally by accident when she hadn't even been looking or at least that was what she had told herself after Ron's refusal to accept responsibility for his actions nearly a decade ago now.
"We had better get some sleep as you know I can be called in for a case at anytime and you also need all the sleep you can get thanks to you being pregnant," Reid suggested.
"I'll see you in the morning," was all Hermione said laying down completely curling up against Spencer's back and closing her eyes.
~~~Spencer and Hermione~~~

"What do you think about me adopting the twins?" asked Spencer.

"What brought this on?" asked Hermione looking at her husband. She had never been so happy in her life and she spent her time between her job in the wizarding section of Virginia, looking after he infant daughter and twin sons, and spending time with her friends in England, but that was only while Spencer was gone with the team to some city that needed his assistance in catching some kind of killer.

"Well, besides the fact that I love them, just as much as you do and this is something I want to do, but also because I feel it is the best thing to do. Yes, I am their stepfather legally, even if I never adopt them, but I would like to be their real father not just their stepparent even if I know that neither one of them share any of my genetic material. I've been thinking about this for awhile actually. I was just waiting the right time to bring it up with you, but that discussion about the twins going to Hogwarts made me decide that I needed to tell you about what I've been thinking and see what you thought about it."

"You've made some very good points," Hermione admitted. "If you want to adopt them, then that is okay with me, but I would like them to keep the Granger name and not take yours."

"Why?" asked Reid curiously.

"Well, for one thing I don't want the Granger name to die out and as far as I know I have no living relatives that carry on the name and even if I did none of them are magical, so it's important to me that there is another Granger that is going to be going to Hogwarts in just a few short years or in this case two. I might have relatives in Scotland, since that is were our family originally came from, but I have no way of knowing. I could probably track them down that same way that I did Uncle Aaron if I really cared to, but finding out if I had any relatives there would probably be just as difficult or even moreso then finding out I had family in America. Because the twins are both boys that means that their last name won't change when they get married and have families of their own and therefore there will be Grangers going to Hogwarts for at least the next few generations."

"Why is it so important to you to not have the Granger name die out or to have them go to your old alma mater?" Spencer asked curiously.

"Well, for one thing I would like to prove a point to those very ancient pureblooded families that it wasn't just luck that I did much better in my classes then their precious darlings, which flies in those families faces and proves that Muggles are not as dumb as they are believed to be. That is what we Muggle-born are believed to be you know, just one step up from Muggles in the intelligence department, at least in England. Also, it will prove that my scores on every subject were not just 'flukes' which I'm sure a lot of those families that followed Voldemort believe even to this day. Me doing better then those pureblooded sons and daughters kind of flies in their face that I am better then anyone, just because I have witches and wizards for many generations on both sides of my family."

"So it will prove a point," Spencer suggested.

"Something like that," Hermione agreed calmly. "Actually, some of the older pureblooded families are so inbred that they are dying out and all because they refuse to diversify their blood, so I won't be surprised that if in another generation or two at most there are no more purebloods at least from those families that refuse to marry a half-blood, a Muggle-born or even a Muggle lose the ability to have children. If they had done this within the last couple of generations then their magic would have stayed strong and they would not be so at risk of dying out or at least not for a few more generations anyway."

"Which would explain at least partly what caused the wizarding war in the first place," Spencer said trying not to think about the role that his wife in particular had played in it as it just made him as furious as he had ever been in his life as she could have been killed. "Pureblooded attitudes and arrogance being what it is."

"Why don't we ask the twins if they want to be adopted as they are nine and certainly old enough to have an opinion on the subject."

"All right," Spencer agreed trying not to show how nervous he was about asking his twin stepsons for their opinion.

"Don't be so nervous, they love you and I'm sure they will say yes," Hermione told her husband able to tell what he was thinking quite easily even though Reid had done his best to conceal how he was really feeling.

"I should have known better then to try to keep anything from you," Spencer said, giving his wife a kiss on the cheek.

"Yes, you should have," Hermione told him with a smile.

"So how are you and the twins doing today, pregnancy wise?" asked Reid patting his wife's very pregnant belly gently.

"They are really letting me have it, kicking me and making me have to pee what seems like every five minutes," Hermione admitted grimacing. "They are very active, which is good, even if it's hard on my stomach and organs."

"Well, at least we know they are healthy," Spencer said and Hermione nodded in agreement.

"The Healer assured me that they were perfectly healthy at my last appointment and that I could expect them to come a least four to six weeks early, but that it would be better for the babies if I carried them as long as possible. I already knew this of course and not just from my own research, but because the Healer at St. Mungo's in London told me the same thing when I was carrying Harold and Hugo. I'm actually amazed that I got pregnant with twins considering that as far as I know they don't run in my family, although they do run in Ron's, as you know."

"Perhaps you just have the hyperovulation that some women have where you release more then one egg a month and they were both fertilized, but since we don't know whether you are carrying fraternal or identical that theory might not be valid since identical are because a single egg split into two or even three."

Hermione listened patiently even though she had known all this, but she knew that Spencer couldn't help, but babble sometimes since it was part of the mild form of Asperger's syndrome that he had been born with, along with his high IQ.

"It won't be long before they are due and it won't be soon enough for me since carrying twins definitely isn't for the weak willed."

"No, it's not since you are carrying at least 40 extra pounds around and they aren't even due for another three months," Reid said.

"And in just another two months I need to gain at least another 20 to 30 pounds if I don't want the babies to be to underweight," Hermione said. "The more they weigh when they are born the fewer problems they will have later, even if fetuses that have magic tend to be somewhat heartier, then those that don't."

"Yes, it would be good if they weighed at least 5 pounds apiece as if both of them weigh at least that much it would prevent so many problems, palsy..."
"Yes, I know, no need to tell me that low birth weight can cause," Hermione interrupted her husband gently. "I prefer to dwell on the positive though and not worry about what can go wrong."

"I'm sorry," Reid told his wife sincerely, "I'm just one of those people that is going to worry until they are here. With Leia I didn't worry so much because it was only one baby, but twins and other multiples are different and I can't help, but think about all the things that can go wrong and only when I am extremely busy do I not think about all the problems that can arise."

"Try not to worry so much, twins are born everyday all over the world and most of them are delivered perfectly healthy with no problems," Hermione reminded her husband. "Now if it was triplets or more you would have a right to worry."

"You're right," Reid admitted. "I'll try to stop worrying so much."

"Do," Hermione urged him.

"I have a theory as to why you got pregnant with twins, want to hear it?" asked Reid,

"Sure," Hermione said.

"Well, I was reading all about twins and how to increase your chances of having them a month or so ago and one of the books I was looking at suggested that if you were a milk drinker, particularly whole enriched milk that you had more of a chance of having twins because of the IGF, insulin-like growth factor, especially if you drink a lot of it and also other products with IGF, like cheese that contain it. You do love milk and drink a gallon of it every couple of days so that we have to keep at least three or four gallons in the fridge because between you and the children it is gone in a week or less."

Hermione had to admit that Spencer had a point as she had always drank a lot of milk since she was a child and it could very well be why she was pregnant with twins again.
"You might very well be right," Hermione said. "I had heard that, but I never bothered to research it like you did."

"Most milk sold in the store has some IGF, although some brands more than others of course," Spencer said. "Also some beef contains IGF as well, but I still believe that milk is the reason you are pregnant with twins since you and our children drink so much of it. Of course, that doesn't mean that there are other factors involved as well."

"It's an interesting theory anyway and as I said you're probably right, although we'll probably never know for sure," Hermione said.

"Probably not," Spencer agreed. "Still, I am sure that you being such a milk drinker is at least a partial explanation, even if it's not the whole answer."

"I've always drank a lot of milk, since I was a kid. I missed it at Hogwarts," Hermione said.

"So no milk at your old alma mater?" Spencer inquired and Hermione shook her head.

"No, there wasn't," Hermione said. "They had pumpkin juice, tea and coffee. I don't think most magical's drink milk or at least it's not served at the school. Some Muggle-borns like myself, likely drink it and maybe some half bloods, though I doubt very much that most purebloods do, though I could be wrong."

"Well that's not very healthy," Spencer said disapprovingly. "Children especially need milk as it's very healthy. It helps build strong bones. It has a lot of vitamin D and calcium."

"Yes, I know," Hermione agreed. "It just hasn't seemed to catch on in the wizarding world, at least not in England. There's nothing in it either one of us can do about it so why worry about a problem that we can't solve?"

"You're right, it's not our problem," Spencer shrugged.

The two of them just sat there for a few minutes before they started making out on the couch and so time passed without either of them being aware of it.
