Carlos dialed the number of Jack O'Neill's cell phone, hoping that he would answer. He knew that Jack was on a mission with SG-1, but he also knew that Daniel needed him. He waited for a few rings, but there was no response. He left a voicemail, trying to sound calm and professional.
"Colonel O'Neill, this is Carlos, the nurse from the SGC infirmary. I'm calling to inform you that Dr. Jackson is awake and recovering from his appendectomy. He's been asking for you repeatedly, and he seems very distressed. I think he would benefit from seeing you as soon as possible. Please call me back when you get this message. Thank you."
He hung up the phone and sighed. He hoped that Jack would get the message soon and come back to Earth. He looked at Daniel, who was still lying in bed, moaning and clutching his stomach.
"Daniel, I tried to call Jack," he said softly. "He's not answering right now, but I left him a message. He'll be here soon, OK?"
Daniel opened his eyes and looked at him with a pleading expression.
"Please," he said weakly. "Please, bring him to me."
Carlos felt a pang of sympathy for him. He wished he could do more to help him.
"I'm sorry, Daniel," he said. "I can't bring him to you right now. He's on another planet, remember? He has to come back through the Stargate first."
Daniel shook his head slowly.
"No," he said. "No, he's here. He's here with me."
Carlos frowned. He wondered if Daniel was hallucinating or delirious.
"What do you mean, Daniel?" he asked.
Daniel pointed to his chest.
"He's here," he said. "He's in here."
He tapped his heart.
"He's always in here."
Carlos was stunned by Daniel's words. He didn't know what to make of them. He wondered if Daniel was expressing some deep feelings for Jack, or if he was just confused and delirious.
He decided to play along, hoping to calm him down.
"OK, Daniel," he said gently. "If you say so. Jack is in your heart. And you are in his heart too. He cares about you very much, you know that, right?"
Daniel nodded slowly.
"Yes," he said. "Yes, I know."
He smiled faintly.
"He's my best friend," he said.
Carlos smiled back at him.
"That's good," he said. "Friends are important. Especially in times like this."
He reached out and squeezed Daniel's hand.
"You have other friends too, Daniel," he said. "Sam, Teal'c, Janet, me... We're all here for you. We're all rooting for you."
Daniel looked at him with gratitude.
"Thank you," he said.
He closed his eyes and sighed.
He felt a little more relaxed and comfortable.
He felt sleepy.
He yawned and drifted into a peaceful sleep.
Carlos tucked him in and checked his vital signs.
They were stable and normal.
He breathed a sigh of relief.
He hoped that Daniel would wake up more calm and coherent.
He hoped that Jack would come back soon to see him.
He hoped that everything would be OK.

Carlos watched Daniel sleep for a few minutes, then decided to leave him alone. He walked out of the infirmary and headed to the control room. He wanted to check if there was any news from SG-1. He hoped that they had completed their mission and were on their way back.
He entered the control room and saw Walter Harriman sitting at the console, monitoring the Stargate activity. He greeted him and asked him if he had any updates.
"Hey, Carlos," Walter said. "No, nothing yet. SG-1 is still off-world. They haven't checked in since they left."
Carlos frowned.
"Do you know what they're doing?" he asked.
Walter shrugged.
"Not really," he said. "They went to P3X-729, a planet with a primitive civilization. They were supposed to make contact with the locals and see if they were friendly. They didn't say much else."
Carlos nodded.
"I see," he said. "Well, I hope they're OK."
He looked at the Stargate, hoping that it would activate soon and bring SG-1 back.
He wondered what Jack was doing right now.
He wondered if he knew how much Daniel needed him.
Meanwhile, on P3X-729, Jack O'Neill was in trouble.
He and his team had been captured by the natives, who turned out to be hostile and suspicious of strangers. They had been taken to a village, where they were tied to wooden poles and surrounded by angry villagers. The villagers were chanting and waving spears and knives, preparing to sacrifice them to their god.
Jack tried to reason with them, but they didn't listen. They didn't speak English, and Daniel wasn't there to translate. Jack cursed himself for leaving Daniel behind. He wished he had brought him along, even though he was sick. He wished he had listened to his gut feeling that something was wrong.
He wished he had answered his phone when Carlos called.
He didn't know that Daniel was awake and recovering from his appendectomy.
And he didn't know how to get out of this mess.
Jack and his team were about to lose hope, when they heard a familiar sound. It was the sound of the Stargate activating. They looked up and saw the wormhole forming in the distance. They realized that someone was coming to rescue them.
They hoped that it was someone from the SGC, and not another enemy.
They were right.
It was SG-3, led by Major Davis. They had received Carlos' message and decided to check on SG-1. They had dialed the same address that SG-1 had used and arrived on the planet.
They saw the situation and quickly took action.
They opened fire on the villagers, using stun grenades and rubber bullets to avoid killing them. They created a diversion and ran towards SG-1. They cut their ropes and freed them from the poles.
"Come on, let's go!" Davis shouted.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Jack said, as he and his team followed him.
They ran towards the Stargate, dodging the villagers' attacks. They reached the gate and dialed Earth. They entered the wormhole and escaped.
They were safe.
They were going home.
They were going to see Daniel.
A/N
Annnnd POOF Jack's off-world again. Seriously, what's with the random missions going on in this story? Also, I'm sure the cell reception is great over there.
Jack would never, ever, take on a mission without his full team, especially while said missing team member is literally recovering from surgery.
I like how the AI has chosen to develop Carlos a bit more. My version of him is actually based on a real nurse I shadowed during an internship. Somehow- the AI is IN CHARACTER for this actual person I know.
I originally thought it was odd that Carlos included himself in Daniel's friend list. This is an interesting take, Daniel has certainly been in the infirmary enough times to get to know the nurses, so this kind of makes sense. I'm thinking Carlos might show up as an OC in another story I'm writing. Thanks, AI!
The planet named here is Juna, controlled by Cronus and featured in the episode Double Jeopardy. And those people spoke English. (don't they all?) Though, this could possibly be a sorta AU for that episode? Maybe? But then that would mean the SG-1 that got captured and are rescued by SG-3… are robots. Yeah, we're not doing that.
Apparently, SG-1 has no military or diplomatic training whatsoever and are completely helpless without Daniel.
SG-3 has had many leaders over the show's run, however, Major Davis was never one of them.
Why do we need rubber bullets? Zats work just fine. Why do they even have rubber bullets?
How did Carlos know that they were in trouble? Nobody can deny that nurses have special senses, but interplanetary instincts seem a bit much.
AI does not like to whump Daniel as much as I do, I set it up perfectly to hurt him some more and it decided to take SG-1 on a whole other adventure to avoid it.
Humph.
My turn next! See you in a bit!
