Season 4 Episode 24: A GOODBYE TO BARKINGBURG!
September 1st, 2030
It had been just a little over a week and a half since the attack of the Duke of Flappington on Barkingburg. Miraculously, there had been only one casualty. Evacuating the citizens had done wonders to minimize the loss of life. However, that didn't make the team feel any better, as the life that was lost hit them pretty hard. For the past week and a half after the attack, they had been providing aid to Barkingburg, rebuilding destroyed structures and repairing the damages done to the kingdom. For the pups, performing these ultimate construction rescues helped take their minds off of what they had done; what they had witnessed. To Rubble, it was a distraction that helped him not think about the fact that his parents' killer was still out there.
As they continued to work alongside the relief workers and assist the reconstructions, the original eight Paw Patrol members began to grow tired. They were growing sick of the rustic old English kingdom that had served as their home for over a month now. They longed for their home, and the familiar faces that they had given assistance to hundreds of times over the past several years. They wanted to go back to Adventure Bay. Sweetie and Arrby weren't wanting to, but they could sense their teammates' wishes. The white west highland terrier and the dachshund had been hit by Claw's death the hardest, but they felt as if they couldn't grieve in front of their teammates. They were really the only ones who had cared for Claw.
So, on the afternoon of the last day in August, Sweetie and Arrby approached Ryder and Ben. Ben's face looked sunken and haggard, bags under his eyes, while Ryder seemed groggy and drowsy, as well as slower to react. "Ben." Sweetie curtly said.
"Captain Boss Mister Ryder, Sir?" Arrby asked.
"What is it?" The two humans responded.
"We were, uh, we were wondering..." Arrby began.
"Ryder. Ben. You and your team need to go back to Adventure Bay." Sweetie cut in.
"Huh?" Ryder mumbled.
"The reconstruction efforts aren't anywhere near done yet though!" Ben protested.
"The reconstruction of the kingdom will be fine without you. The United Nations is going to send relief funds and workers to speed up the process. You and your team aren't needed here anymore." Sweetie explained.
"Plus, we can tell you really miss your home." Arrby added.
Ben sighed as he knew Arrby's words were true. "We do miss our home." Ben mumbled.
"So… much." Ryder agreed.
"So GO." Sweetie stated.
"Who will protect Barkingburg in our absence, though?" Ryder questioned.
"We will." Arrby and Sweetie immediately replied.
"You really think you're up for it?" Ben asked.
"After fighting a dragon army? Arrby and I can handle just about anything. And if we truly need assistance…" Sweetie smirked.
"We'll yelp for help!" Arrby proudly said.
Ben and Ryder smiled for the first time in days. Seeing Arrby and Sweetie stepping up to the plate like this… it made them feel a sense of pride. They had helped shape these pups and made them heroes. "Okay, you two." Ryder chuckled.
The team headed to the Mission PAW base, boarding the Air Patroller and Ben piloting it out into the skies. The pups and Ryder looked out the sides of the windows as they watched the slowly rebuilding Barkingburg recede from their vision. As they approached their home town, they saw that a new building had been constructed nearby the Lookout. "SPD must have finished the renovations by now…" Ben mused. "Let's go check it out!" Marshall suggested.
Going inside, everything looked normal on the first floor and the control room. But in the basement, the Groundbridge was significantly larger than before. "Wow. They really did give it a makeover!" Skye murmured.
"And an upgrade!" Rocky commented.
"Shall we see where it goes?" Ryder offered.
"I don't see why not!" Rubble exclaimed with childlike wonder.
Ben smiled. It was good to hear the bulldog talk like that again. He had been afraid that Rubble would never be the same after learning the Duke of Flappington had murdered his parents. Entering the portal, they were stunned to see three humanoid robots— one green, one purple, and one of them being Optimus Prime. "Yo, Optimus, those people you said were coming finally showed up!" The purple one yelled.
"Are we sure they can be trusted to keep our secret?" The green one wondered.
"Ten-four! These pups, cats, and people in the Paw Patrol are real good folk!" Another voice piped up, and the basset hound Al that had helped them in the battle waddled in.
"Um… can someone explain where we are, and what's going on?" Skye questioned.
And this concludes Season 4 of the story. I know some were displeased with the Transformers cameos in the last chapter, so let me be clear: this is not a mainstay of the story. It was a way to introduce Al, and also, it has been built up to since the third seasons. Mentions to the Aligned continuity of Transformers (Transformers Prime and Rescue Bots) have been sprinkled throughout this story.
Anyways, it'll be up and done by the end of the fifth season premiere. That'll be the end of crossovers in the primary story, excluding one very important plot point in season six.
Uploads on this story will be slowing down to only once per week, as I'm going to be updating Periwinkle as well so that you guys can be caught up. Periwinkle is an AO3 and Wattpad exclusive but only the AO3 version is up to date. I've also got college, and so I won't be able to work as much on Season Six most likely. This will be the first time during the production of Rescue Force that I'll be back in school so writing will likely slow down. Once again, I'm going to emphasize the fact that Periwinkle is crucial to the plot of Rescue Force. It'll be giving world building, character development, introducing new characters who will also appear in Rescue Force, and also will just be fun to read.
Ciao for now!
