"Yes, Master Harry, we know you only tasked Dobby, Winky and Kreacher for the work, but the place was filthy and dangerous, covered in ice and snow. We were bored out of our minds staying in the trunk with no work, So we decided to help, not that they requested it. " Hudo was talking so fast that Harry had to pause to understand it, but once he did that, he was again amazed at the culture of the house elves, here he was amazed at what they had achieved in such a short time but to them it was nothing, there only concern seems to be that they had disobeyed him.
"You guys did a great job. I did not expect this much work to be done in such a short time." Harry said to reassure the Hudo, who was frantically pulling his ears down. The transformation of Hudo after hearing those words was palpable. After hearing those words, the ears pulling down stopped immediately, and he began bouncing on his feet with a massive smile on his face.
As Harry was talking to Hugo, he could feel two eyes glaring at the back of his neck, which seemed to intensify as time passed. Finally deciding to do something about it, he quickly turned around to face the person to which those eyes belonged.
"Careful, Ms Carter, you might burn something with those eyes," Harry said teasingly; he did not know why but he quite liked teasing her and the faces she made when she got angry. Maybe he should look into it more, but now Sam's face was getting to an exciting shade of red, and it looked like the dam was about to burst. He had to admire Sam for her courage. She was captive in a strange place with no idea how to get out, but She had already charged at him once and looked like she would do it again, but she controlled herself and said, "It's Captain Carter, not Miss Carter, and you know it. "
"What! Is not the correct form of greeting in your world for an unmarried female." Harry replied teasingly.
"Are you married? Who is the lucky or unlucky guy." Harry said with a shocked expression, but the twinkle in his eyes gave it away.
"I am not.. that is not any of your business anyway. It is Captain Carter because I am a military person, you olf." Sam seems to be in shock after saying the last word. The expression on her face is that of pure confusion and slight fear.
"Olf, I've never been called that. Is it some form of reverence in your world? I do not know if I like it or not. Can you tell me the example of its uses so I can decide?" Harry replied teasingly. He seems unable to help himself.
"It is not a form of reverence... I will tell you what it is. " Sam seems to be at a loss for words; her face turned redder as time passed. After seeing her face, Harry thought creating his ancestor's personal shield would be wise. That was not a bad idea with the luck he was having. It would be a wise investment to make, and the side benefit is he gets to tease Sam more without the worry of bodily harm coming to him because the picture on her face; showed a slow and painful death for him.
"Anyway, to change the subject, what was she doing while I was out for the last ten days" He directed the question not to Sam but to Kreacher because he likes to live dangerously, his Hogwarts life being the case and point.
Kreacher, his faithful elf and utterly oblivious to what was happening, replied instantly, "Master, the muggle thought of running away once, but Kreacher stopped her. After that, the muggle has been studying the giant ring" Kreacher looked incredibly proud of himself.
"You have been watching out for her, have you not? So Captain Carter, do not get in trouble." Harry asked because he liked playing with fire. Sam looked like Stream would come out of her ears at being ignored while they talked about her.
"Of course, Master, Kreacher was always there watching her," Kreacher said and then came closer to Harry and said in what was supposed to be a whisper but still his voice carried and said, "Muggle must be watched Master; Kreacher had to stop her from slipping and failing so many times in the ice."
"You did a good job, Kreacher. Good work," Harry said while internally considering whether he should take the potion and see who he or Sam could produce a better stream-out ear effect. Harry did not think he could win even with the help of the potion and decided that he had tempted fate enough for one day. He turned to face Sam and said, "So, Captain Carter, what have you learned from your study of Astria Porta? Have you found out what it does?"
Sam's inner scientist surfaced at a scientific question directed at her and replied, even before she could stop herself, saying, "Not much we know that it creates a wormhole between two locations based on constellation which its uses as the map they being the fixed point in space. Stargate can only connect with another one, and that is also if we can correctly dial the address. So in a way, it is a door which only allows one-way travel between two fixed points at any given time but on a galactic scale. Hey, why am I sharing all this with you." it looks like she remembered that she was angry with him.
"You are partially right, Captain Carter; our Astria Porta does create a wormhole between itself and another stargate, but not just that, it can also create a stable connection with any of its hundred pears spread out throughout the universe. Provided you have the right address and enough power to power it." Harry said.
"So this is an advanced version of the one we have back in our base on Earth. That only allowed connection to Abydos, and I tried hundreds of addresses from its log. This Stargate thus looks more advance. It does not have a spinning wheel, for one," Sam thought aloud. Harry was not even sure that she was speaking to him, that is what he liked about the scientists they regarded knowledge at the top. It did register to him that Sam thought they were no longer on Earth.
"Again, you are partially right, Captain Carter," Harry said, startling her.
"Yes, this is an advance version of Astria Porta then that you have on your base, but that Astria Porta can also connect back to any of its peers like this one," Harry explained.
"No, that is impossible; I have tried hundreds of addresses. If that were the case, we could at least connect more than one Stargate. We could only connect to Abydos, and why do you keep calling it Astria Porta." Sam asked
"Well, from what I could gather that Astria Porta has been out of action for a long time. So the last time it was used was probably thousands of years ago, and all its addresses are old. You are dialling somewhere where there is no Astria Porta for your Astria Porta." Harry said.
"But not all Stargate could have been moved or buried like ours. Some surely would have still been intact. Why are we not able to connect to them? It surely is not power as I have been getting wrong address error, not a power insufficient error." Sam challenged her earlier anger wholly forgotten.
"Yes, most of the Astria Porta are intact and in working order. There number are more than you imagine, but the ground on which they are placed have moved," Harry explained, trying to give Sam a hint.
"I do not think even a major earthquake could move the ground that much. We are getting address incorrect error." Sam said.
"No, Captain Carter, not even a major earthquake will cause you to receive that error. You are thinking on a small scale. We here are talking of a universal transport system. Think on a grand scale, What is Astria Porta sitting on?" Harry said; as he watched Sam try to figure that out. The look of concentration on her face as She tried to solve the problem was charming and brought a smile to Harry's face.
"Planet... " Sam said as the realization came to her.
"That right, Captain Carter; what happens to planets over a period of time," Harry said.
"They revolve around their star, but I do not think that is what you are referring to," Sam said thoughtfully.
"Think grander scale of time what happens to terrestrial bodies in that time frame." Harry encouraged Sam.
"They drift apart; the universe is always expanding, causing the planet on which Stargate is to drift apart in relation to Earth that this star coordinate is not valid anymore. But why did Abydos one work." Sam thought aloud. Harry did not say anything waiting for her to realize, which He was sure would be correct.
"The distance between Earth and Abydos would not be that great in Universal terms, so the same address still works, but in a thousand or so years, it will also not work. I could easily make a program which considers the Stellar drift, and then we could have the right address," Sam said in excitement, looking at Harry for confirmation and when Harry nodded. Sam looked to do just that.
"You have done it, Master. Now the muggle go to the giant ring and will be running different experiments on it all night forcing Kreacher to stay there to keep her safe." Kreacher's voice startled them, having forgotten he was there.
"Yes, Kreacher, you are right. Take Ms Carter to her bed. She can run experiments in the morning." Harry said
"Come, Muggle; you heard the Master. Rest now; play later," Kreacher said as he dragged Sam to her bed like a nine-year-old.
"Kreacher seems to develop a liking for Sam, a muggle. This world is strange, or he is going crazy maybe Kreacher is not so set in his ways as he thought." Harry smiled.
