Bella wasn't sure what to make of Eric being her brother. Right now she was alone with Lukas. They were in their secret spot and she was pacing.
"Babe, what's going on. Why were you so cryptic earlier?"
"Okay. I have to know. Did you know that Charles Swan was Eric's father?"
Lukas frowned. "Honestly, I never thought to learn more about Eric. I've been focused on training."
"You're telling me that you didn't know Eric before… before staying here in Dauntless?"
"I mean… I guess I saw him in passing, but he's a top level leader. I dealt with Four more." Lukas said and crossed his arms. "You're telling me that Charles is Eric's father too. That makes you two-"
"Brother and sister." Bella cut Lukas off and shook her head. "That's crazy right?"
Lukas ran his hand over his hair. "I guess. But not really. Charles Swan was a Dauntless legend and he was known for being… sexually…"he drifted off.
"He was a man whore you can say it. My dad was a whore." Bella threw her hands up. "This is just…"
"Does Eric know that Charles is your father?"
"Oh yeah." Bella nodded. "Because guess the fuck what."
"Oh no. It came out in your fear landscape…"Lukas said, shaking his head. "Baby, this doesn't have to matter. Eric is Eric. Don't let him-"
"I'm Divergent." Bella said it and felt her heart stutter a little.
Lukas blinked a few times, not sure he heard her correctly. "Divergent. You're Divergent? Are you fucking serious?"
"You're mad…"Bella murmured and backed away.
Lukas shook his head. "No. Babe, that's not what… I'm sorry. I'm just shocked." He said and reached for her and pulled her into his arms and just hugged her. There was so much going on with Bella right now. He knew how hard it was for her already and with all this added information loaded on her he was afraid that it would break her down. "Baby, I love you. No matter what. I don't give a shit if you're Divergent. I don't care about Eric or Charles, I only care about you."
Bella looked up into Lukas's eyes. He seemed like he was scared. "You're afraid of me." She murmured.
"I'm not afraid of you." Lukas said gently. "I'm afraid of what could happen if anyone finds out about you. You can't tell anyone that you're Divergent."
Bella nodded and then kissed him before leaning her face against his chest, his arms enveloping her in their warmth. She was afraid of what could happen if anyone found out about her being Divergent.
[The Sparring Games]
Max was known for his hard, sadistic training. He plotted a series of games for the recruits every year and the games always changed. Even Eric wasn't sure what to expect this year and neither did Four. Eric and Four were dressed in formal Dauntless gear. This consisted of black leather mobility pants and boots, a black turtleneck, in addition to their dauntless jackets that had all their patches on it. Not just the red leadership stripes. Eric's jacket had patches on it showing that he was the highest level marksmen in Dauntless. Specialty patches for if you were approved to work certain areas of the city. Eric was in the highest level of leadership in Dauntless. If anyone put him on a pyramid, he was the rung right below Max.
Four was an entry level leadership. He never desired to go farther on that ladder and was comfortable with taking recruits and training them.
"What are you thinking this year?" Eric asked Four as they stood together, watching the outdoor amphitheater fill up with Dauntless as well as other factions. This was an event that other factions were invited to come and watch. Something that Eric didn't agree with, but Max liked to be dramatic. Usually they didn't have a high turn out from Abnegation, but this year, he saw the larger section of Abnegation waiting in the stands. He pin pointed Natalie and Andrew Prior and then turned his mouth to his shoulder where he had a walkie attached. "Melrose. I have eyes on the Priors." He said and then waited a beat.
"Copy. Same."
Eric nodded. "The Priors are in attendance." He said and looked at Four. "Effy and Rolo?"
Four seemed to think about it. "Nah, I'll keep eyes on them. I'll work their protection detail." He said and slipped away.
There were buildings that framed in the amphitheater and that was where all the Dauntless recruits were situated at the moment, waiting on orders.
Max walked in and everyone stood at attention. His ebony skin seemed smooth, like velvet, though there were scars that layered his arms that he kept covered. He was wearing all black, formal Dauntless gear, except he had a blue stripe above his red stripe, indicating that he was the leader of Dauntless. "Today is a special day. Each year, all recruits are thrown through a grinder. This year… the spars are randomized. Generated by the computer and displayed on the screens in the theater. There are numerous rounds, so be prepared to fight more than once. This is the one and only time where killing an opponent is sanctioned." He said and there was a deafening silence. "Weapons… are allowed. Medieval forms of weapons. There will be casks up there. The computer will randomize and only one will be given a weapon to start the spar. There are no hard rules. The round ends with either a knock out or someone dying. Understood?"
"YES SIR." Everyone sang out together.
Max nodded. "Be prepared." He said and then he left, letting everyone relax.
Bella looked at Lukas, worry displayed on her face. "This isn't good."
"No it's not." Lukas said his voice low. "It's a test. Killing an opponent… those that go for blood, are the ones that will be tagged as a danger to the city. It's Max's way of…pushing those to the surface."
"Or he's trying to figure out who his strongest are." Christina butt in.
Bella thought about it. "You know what. Chris is right. Max… is not like Eric and Four. He thinks from a more… sinister area."
Tris walked up, clearly worried, Al and Will with her. "What are we going to do?"
"You're going to fight like hell." Bella said. "Strategies." She said.
Jasper joined the group. "This is the most insane I have ever heard." He said and looked around the group. "What are we thinking y'all?"
"I'm thinking that Al and Tris are going to need the most help." Bella said.
"We're not completely incompetent." Tris said, her tone snippy.
Bella raised a brow. "You're still in the red on the board Tris, this isn't about taking a stab at you. Right now, yes, you and Al are the weakest here. We," Bella motioned to Jasper, Lukas, herself, Will, and Christina. "Don't need to worry about half of these spars. But you and Al do. You hope you get to start with a weapon and you don't get paired against anyone other than us."
"Why?" Al asked, he was seriously scared about what was about to happen.
"Because we'll just knock you out, not take your life." Jasper filled in for Bella.
"You don't think I can-"
"No, I don't. I don't think you can win any of these Tris. Because you're not fucking Dauntless and should have stayed in Abnegation." Bella said, irritated.
There was a ringing sound and then an announcement. "Recruits, to the arena." It said and then it was over.
This was it. The sparring games. A life-or-death situation that Bella certainly didn't see coming. At least, not so soon.
Max was hosting the sparring games. The amphitheater was full now, an array of colors like it was back at the choosing ceremony. He had already made his announcement to the crowd, the gasps at the rules and the low rumble of murmurs that followed. Jeanine Matthews was sitting in a special spot next to Max, as was Jack Kang, Joanna Reyes and then seated with them was Marcus Eaton, the leader of the council in Abnegation.
Bella stepped out on one side; she was separated from Lukas now. She was placed on the right side of the amphitheater and was grouped with Uriah, Molly, Christina, Jasper, Edward, Will, Al, Nick, Noah and Myra. She looked across the way and saw a second and third group. Max had them split into three groups, which made her curious. The screens lit up around the amphitheater and it seemed to flash names like roulette.
Peter No Weapon
Peter grinned from across the way. He was part of the group Lukas was in. He stepped up, unzipping his jacket and throwing it to the side, revealing his shirtless chest. He wasn't overly strong, but he was slightly toned from the weeks of training in Dauntless.
The screen flashed again and Bella was hoping it was anyone other than Tris or Al on the screen.
Al Weapon
Al looked at Bella, fear in his eyes. Peter was one of the ones that they were certain would try to murder someone now that it was allowed for the events. "Bella…"
"I know. Listen Al, try to take him out with whatever weapon they give you. Don't let him get you to the ground." Bella said quickly.
Al just nodded and then joined the stage part of the amphitheater. He was given a choice of three weapons. A bat, nunchakus and throwing knives. He wasn't good at throwing knives, so he grabbed the bat not knowing how to use the other weapon. People clapped for the first spar to begin.
Bella wasn't sure she could watch. Peter was a hard opponent. He was above her on the board still at number 3. He sailed past her when he beat Uriah last week on a spar. It was clear that this was going to be an unfair match.
When the bell dinged, Peter aggressively went for Al, avoiding the lame swing of the bat. He took the bat from Al and that forced Al to try and go on the defensive still. Thirty seconds into the match, Peter cracked Al across the face with the bat with such force that it snapped Al's head back and Al hit the stage floor. There were some gasps but also claps as Peter show boded for the crowd, his cockiness bleeding through.
Bella wanted to go to Al, but Christina put a hand on her arm. "I have to-"
"We can't." Christina murmured.
Bella watched as Dauntless medics moved onto the stage and bent down to access Al. The theater got quiet again. One medic shook his head and then scooped down and picked Al up into his arms and carried him away. Peter's image flashed across the screens as a winner. Al lost more than just a match. Al was dead.
Just like that, a person that Bella considered a close friend, was gone. Sweet Al, timid Al. He was just gone. Her eyes went across the arena and her eyes landed on Tris. Tris was sobbing right now and Lukas was trying to comfort her but she was pushing him away.
Peter rejoined the group Lukas was part of and was still gloating over there and it looked like it was taking everything Lukas had not to put Peter out right then and there.
The screen started flashing again, the show must go on.
It felt like an eternity waiting for her name to flash up. Will had already gone. He knocked out Jimmy in group two. Christina had gone already, knocking out April in group three. She watched Jasper go already too, going against Mike and he managed to knock him out.
The screen flashed again after Mike was cleared off from being knocked out and Jasper returned to the group to stand next to Bella when Uriah's name surfaced with a weapon and then Tris's name.
Bella looked at Uriah, uncertain of what Uriah's actions would be.
"I'm not going to kill your sister." Uriah assured her and that made Bella feel better.
Bella watched as Uriah took the stage, grabbing the nunchakus that no one else selected. It was because no one knew out to use them correctly, but Uriah was using it as a handicap. They wouldn't kill Tris, he knew he could knock her out without issue since she was not a great fighter and Uriah was number two for a reason on the board. Right now it was Lukas, Uriah, Peter, Jasper and then Bella.
The match didn't last long as predicted. Bella knew that Tris was not physically strong enough to endure these matches and she hoped that the games for the next round wouldn't include her but Max had been vague. That everyone had to be prepared to go multiple times. She was starting to wonder if Max's intention was to kill off as many recruits as he could.
The screen flashed again and again some more. Edward went against Jack and beat him. Edward didn't just beat Jack… Jack was dead. It was clear who the people in Dauntless were that would take a life. She saw Lukas get paired against Paulina, he took it easy on her and knocked her out without issue. It didn't matter if she was trying to throw knives at him or not.
Eventually, Bella's name flashed and she was pitted against Alison. Alison was under Tris on the board and would be an easy win for her. She joined Alison on the stage and Alison looked back at her with doe brown eyes, scared of what Bella would do. Bella twirled the bat in her hand. She didn't need the weapon, so she tossed the bat to the ground then nodded to Alison and Alison dove for the bat to use against Bella, but Bella spun around with a spinning roundhouse kick and knocked Alison out within ten seconds of the starting match. Bella immediately went to check on Alison to see if she was okay and she was okay, just knocked out cold.
There was a loud horn sound, finalizing the end of the first round of the sparring games.
Group three was being dismantled and Bella's group absorbed Marlene while Lukas's group absorbed Danny, Erin and Ethan. Lukas looked over at Bella, seeing how tense she was. They were in opposing groups and so far they managed to not have to fight each other, but that didn't mean that it wouldn't happen.
The screen flashed again and it settled on Uriah's name and then Clara's name. Bella watched the fight unfold. Clara wasn't a terrible fighter, but Uriah was clearly the victor. Clara went down after fighting Uriah off for an entire minute.
The crowd still cheered, no matter the faction. Bella's eyes followed up into the stands and she saw her parents. She hadn't realized they were here before and close to them was Four. Dauntless were positioned close to other council members she realized and she wondered why that was. She found Eric standing in the special box and it was clear that his detail was Marcus Eaton.
Jasper No Weapon vs Lukas Weapon
Bella frowned and looked at Jasper. "Jazz…"
"Hey, it had to be one of us. It's better it's me." Jasper said with a wink and he took the stage, pulling his shirt off to reveal his muscles. He smiled for the crowd as they cheered. He waved a hand.
Lukas joined the stage now. He kept his shirt on, but it was clear that he was muscular as well. Bella knew all the details of his body anyways. His brown hair was shaggier now since he hadn't cut it since the training began. His eyes were a bright green color and he was focused. He didn't want a weapon so he forfeited a weapon. He didn't need a weapon and neither did Jasper.
The bell dinged and the two squared off. They were best friends and it was clear that they knew each other very well. They practiced sparring together outside of the training sessions with other Dauntless recruits. It was going to be a long battle.
Bella glanced over at Christina as she watched the two men move. "Who do you think?"
"Lukas." Christina said with a smile. "It'll always be Lukas." She reassured.
Six minutes into the fight, Lukas choked Jasper out. Sweat covered both of them and Lukas was breathless from the strain of fighting against Jasper, who was a really strong fighter.
Lukas looked over at Bella and she nodded to him, before he exited off towards his group.
The whole sparring games was barbaric. She watched as other recruits kept getting picked before her and eventually it was down to four. Bella, Edward, Peter and Erin.
The screen flashed and Edward's name blinked up on the screen followed by Erin's name. It meant that Peter was her opponent next. She couldn't wait.
Edward killed Erin, he just straight up killed her. Knife to the face. It was brutal and people gasped as they watched Erin's body crumple to the floor. It was sickening really. Lukas grimaced as he watched it happened. Another Dauntless born, dead because of these cruel punishing games. He worried about Bella and Peter. Weapons were allowed and he only hoped that she would be able to choose her weapon and not Peter.
Bella no weapon vs Peter weapon
Bella pulled her shirt off, her black sports bra tight across her chest, her back covered in the tribal tattoo that Tori had done the week prior and her arm was inked all the way from her shoulder to her wrist. She glanced to see the faces of her parents as they sat straighter in their seats, their faces worried. Her eyes danced across the amphitheater finally settling her blue green eyes on Emmett McCarty. Her friend… her teacher, her first ever love. He was dressed in white and black of Candor and his face looked worried as he watched, tensely. She turned her attention back to Peter. He gladly chose the dual short daggers from the list of weapons given to him to choose from. That meant he wanted to get in close with her.
The bell dinged and Bella played it smart. She took on a guarding stance and waited for Peter. His confidence and ego were his biggest downfall. He swiveled the daggers in his hands as he lunged for Bella. She moved fluidly, her stances unreadable and she kept redirecting the angle of the daggers as he stabbed at her.
"You're going to die stiff." Peter goaded, a wicked smile on his face and slashed at her. Bella caught his wrist and he swiped the other dagger across and she caught it with her other hand, the blade piercing all the way through the back of her hand. She was in control now even if she had the blade in her hand. She twisted, her feet disguised by the wild capoeira pattern and she took him to the ground, disarming him completely. He bucked up against her, but she slid into side control, her free hand shoving into his windpipe, knocking the air out of him. She moved quickly to try and take the dagger out but he managed to shuffle backwards away and roll to his feet. Blood dripped from Bella's hand that the dagger was still lodged in. Peter retrieved the other dagger so he still had a weapon. He went at her again and she spun, throwing a spinning round house kick that he tried to block with the dagger but she kicked it out of his hand and he went at her again. It was a flurry of movements on Bella's part. She relied on the Wing Chun that Emmett taught her and she rapidly punched with her good hand and with the knived hand she palm struck Peter into the chest the blade cutting him. He growled in pain and tried to move away but Bella kept, wrapping her legs around his waist and she twisted, flipping him to the group she palm struck him again with the bladed hand but this time she hit the hilt of the dagger, shoving the dagger into her hand more and into Peter's chest. It was shallow not penetrating deep enough to kill him but it inflicted a major amount of pain. She pounded him in the face, busting his nose and blood went everywhere. He still tried to fight her off, his energy levels were quickly dying off but she didn't let up. Her hand was bloodied from him and herself. She pulled the dagger out of her hand and blood went everywhere again. He tried to roll, giving her his back to escape the punishment to his face and he bucked a little, tossing her forward, but she hooked her leg up under his chin and rolled with it, catching him in what could only be explained as a chokehold. He tried to tap, but that was against the rules. He cried for mercy but Bella held tighter.
"You don't deserve to live." Bella growled through grit teeth. "This is for Al." she said and she swiveled the dagger across her bleeding palm, she released the chokehold and flipped around and slid the dagger across his throat. Ending Peters pathetic life.
The theater fell silent after gasping. Bella's eyes lifted, she saw the horror on her parents' face first. But she also saw the horror on Tris's face too. Bella had taken a life. It said more about her character than she was willing to admit. A darkness that could potentially be dangerous. Bella turned her eyes back down to Peter's lifeless body.
"Who's the stiff now." She muttered and then walked away, bloody. Peter had sliced her side at one point but she had barely felt it. She returned to her group, Christina and Will went to help her immediately as well as Jasper since he had woken up from being taken out by Lukas.
"I'm fine." Bella said mechanically.
Jasper pulled his shirt back off and started ripping it. "You're not fine, you're bleeding badly." He said and started tying his shredded shirt around her side first while Christina picked up pieces of Jasper's shirt to wrap around her hand. They wouldn't get first aid until after the Sparring games, so they had to improvise what they could since the next round would start soon.
"Will, you're being thrown over on group two." Eric had made it down from where he was stationed on Marcus Eaton's detail. His voice was commanding.
Will frowned. "But Bella is-"
"It doesn't matter. Go, now." Eric ordered. His steel eyes swung back to Bella. "I can't give you first aid Bella. Talk to me." He said sternly.
Bella nodded. "I'm good." She said and flexed her hand after Christina wrapped it. Will left to join Lukas on the other side. He was looking really worried about Bella right now, but Will would fill him in once he got over there. "Peter?"
"He's dead." Eric said and looked around. "Okay. This is the third round. Four pairings will be next and then it'll be down to the final four. Those four will square off until there are only two left. There can only be one person standing at the end. Once that is over, then you will enter into group spars."
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Edward asked. "How the fuck are we-"
"You don't get to fucking talk." Eric barked at Edward. His steel eyes went back to Bella. "You will fight until you can't. You get that right?"
Bella nodded. "Eric, I'm okay. It looks worse than it is. I will make it."
Eric studied her a moment. "Okay." He said and looked at his watch. "The next round is weaponless, so. Get to it." He said and then he left even though he didn't want to leave. He wanted to fix Bella's hand better and make sure she hadn't loss too much blood, but it was against the rules at this point in the games.
The horn blared signaling the next round. The screens started flashing again and Bella hoped that it wasn't her next. She needed just a small moment to gather her energy back.
Edward versus Rob
Edward took to the arena again, paired with Rob, one of the shier Dauntless born, but he was a descent fighter. There were no weapons this time, so Bella hoped that another life wouldn't be taken. Even if she had killed Peter earlier, it was catching up to her now that had actually taken his life. She watched Rob hit the ground, crumpling after Edward managed to knock him out after just a few hits. Edward was fast. He was perhaps one of the fastest there, so anyone fighting him, would have to make up for that speed with skill and technique.
Bella kept flexing her hand as it went numb somewhat, which she was sure was due to the bandages being too tight, so she tried to loosen them.
The screen flashed again.
Uriah versus Lukas
Uriah groaned a little, but he sighed and took to the arena. Lukas tried to remain focused. Will told him that Bella was okay for right now, but he was worried more than just the wounds she was carrying. She killed Peter and he knew that could mess with a person. He nodded to Uriah, then they touched hands before the bell dinged and they started their flurry of strikes and kicks.
Bella wasn't even paying attention anymore. She was just watching the crowd now. The faces of the people who enjoyed seeing everyone fight and the ones who found it repulsive but still watched as they beat each other senseless. They were supposed to be better than this as a society, and Bella questioned everything now. Her eyes went back to the arena when Uriah hit the ground unconscious, Lukas remaining the victor and proving why he was number one on the board.
Bella Vs Ethan
Bella moved towards the arena, stretching her legs a little as she squared off against Ethan, an Erudite transfer. He was a striker and Bella would use that to her advantage. The bell dinged and Ethan started first, trying to get it over with. They had tussled before in other training, so Ethan knew he was outmatched, but he would give it his all. His dark hair shagged forward in his face as he tried to whip around with a spinning backfist, but Bella blocked it with little effort and she took his legs out, getting him to the ground. She took side control swiftly, her knees striking him into his side a few times, before she pulled guard on him and swung down on him, pushing past his hands that tried to defend his face and knocked him out cold. She got to her feet and rotated her wrist a little. Her knuckles still bleeding from the intensity of her strikes.
Jasper took her hand and he started wiping the blood away and looking at the damage. "Okay, the last two up are Will and Chris. That's gonna be tough for them, but Will is stronger than Chris and faster. So this round shouldn't be too long." He explained as he wrapped her other hand up. "Bella, are you with me?" He asked, his honey colored eyes studying her.
Bella nodded. "I'm with you." She said and blew out a breath.
"Okay. Odds are stacked. If Will comes out of this round that is going to leave Will and Lukas on that side and you and Edward on this side. It's a fifty, fifty chance you'll be pitted against Lukas." Jasper said. "I know you and him are-"
"It's never stopped me before Will. I know how to fight my boyfriend." Bella said and glanced over at Edward, who was watching Christina and Will fight now, not paying attention. "I don't want Will to go against Edward." She said lowly.
Jasper frowned. "Why?"
"Because next round is weapons…I can't lose another friend Jazz."
Jasper was silent a moment. "Lukas told me that Edward… that he will kill Edward if given a chance. Let's just hope the sparring game gods are with us today." He said and then he glanced up to see Will knock Christina out. He winced a little. He knew that hurt Will more than it hurt Christina in the end.
Bella just wanted this all to be over. Max was a monster. She felt a little lightheaded at the moment and she didn't know if it was the loss of blood or if all the sparring rounds were getting to her.
Lukas no weapon vs Edward weapon
Bella didn't like this at all. She was glad Will was being spared from Edward's death clutch, but at the same time, she was worried about Lukas since Edward would have a weapon. She knew that Lukas was the better fighter, with or without a weapon, but it still didn't make her any less worried.
"He's going to be okay." Jasper reassured, seeing the worried expression on Bella's face. She just nodded as she watched the sparring match unfold.
Edward picked throwing knives, knowing his aim was really good and that Lukas was the stronger fighter. He didn't anticipate Lukas's speed as he managed to avoid all three of Edward's knives. It gave Lukas the advantage now and he closed the distance between the two of them, he danced in a circle with Edward until Edward left his right side unguarded and Lukas swung a kick. He never threw kicks unless he couldn't help it, but he was taking Edward out, one way or another. His kick landed, making Edward flinch from the force and strength of the kick and he tried to keep Lukas's leg to throw him off balance, but Lukas was able to slip his foot away and then he punched at Edward, catching him in his jaw before he was able to get him in a chokehold. Edward clawed at Lukas's grip and managed to fight it off and get loose, but Lukas was now on top of him on the ground. Lukas closed in tight, his fists laying into Edward's face, over and over again. Lukas didn't let up. He thought about Edward raping Bella… his hands on Bella on the dancefloor in the bazaar. The filth that spewed from his mouth. All the other women that Edward assaulted and before Lukas knew it, Edward was lifeless on the ground, his face smashed in severely, the likelihood of survival wasn't in Edward's favor.
It was Jasper that managed to pull Lukas back off of Edward to end the round.
Max looked on, a smile on his face as he watched the gruesome battles take place. He was pleasured by this, watching others kill one another. He had set this in motion the moment he said that killing your opponent was allowed. It was sadistic… it was cruel.
Bella couldn't believe it. She had watched, her face not showing emotion as she watched Lukas kill Edward… following up on the threat that Eric told Lukas would be against the law… that would land Lukas factionless. But it wouldn't now… because Max had made it happen. She stood, paralyzed in her thoughts as she realized what it meant for Edward to be dead. He was no longer the boogyman in her nightmares. He couldn't assault her again or hurt anyone else. Seattle was rid of Edward Cullen.
"Bella." Jasper waved a hand in front of her face. "You're up… against Will." He said and Bella blinked and looked at Christina.
"Chris…"
"I know." Christina said with a nod and smiled. "Do your best." She encouraged and watched Bella step up on the stage. She was weaponless… again. Will picked up the bat and sighed.
"Bella, I don't want to do this."
Bella nodded. "I know you don't. I'll be okay. Promise." She said with a smile and then the bell dinged. Bella was slower, the loss of blood really was a factor in her fighting abilities right now. Will swung the bat at her and she caught the bat with her bad hand and she wrapped her hand down, dislodging the bat from Will's grasp leading them into hand-to-hand. Will tried his hardest to keep up with Bella's movements. Despite being injured what Will would consider to be severely, she was still the faster and more talented fighter. She stepped in close and struck at his collarbone. It spun him a little and then she swung her leg up, her knee coming up into his face, knocking him backwards, she spun again, her foot connecting with his jaw and it was lights out. Will fell to the ground, unconscious.
There were some clapping and cheers as the amphitheater seemed to erupt in favor of Bella. It was clear that people were rooting for her. She shook her hand a little, the numbness coming back in it and she was starting to think that there might be some nerve damage there from the blade going into her hand. She stayed where she was while two Dauntless carried Will off to the side. This was it. This was the final round. She watched Lukas face her on the stage.
"I love you." Lukas told her, his green eyes tired from fighting for so long. He wanted this all to be over just as much as Bella did, but they had no choice. They had to fight each other and somehow he knew this is how it would end.
"I love you too." Bella said and then the bell dinged. They had no weapons, either of them. They squared off with each other, a fluid interaction of punches and blocks. Bella knew all of his moves. They had trained together, he had showed her how to beat him. She had beat him before when she first met him, but since then Lukas had grown as a person. He had matured, as had she. They were seasoned together in their martial arts skill and despite Lukas being taller than Bella, her reach not being as long as his, she was still very capable of moving in close when she needed to.
She landed a kick to his shoulder with a roundhouse kick and she followed up with a spinning inside crescent kick that knocked him back a little, but he was still stable on his feet. He threw a few punches at her, but she blocked every one of them, her hand bleeding through the makeshift bandages now and blood started oozing out and running down her arm, but Bella didn't let that affect her. She continued to block his strikes until she found a slight opening and with the same hurt hand she blocked one of his hits with, she did a quick jab, her backfist connecting with his jaw, dazing him just a little. She took advantage of this moment to take Lukas to the ground and she went in for side control immediately, but he fought it and it forced her into a guarding position. She closed in tight, her knees stabbing into his sides and she rained punches down on top him in rapid succession of the other. The flurry of Wing Chun strikes were fast, too fast for Lukas to block all of them, but he still gave it his best effort in unseating Bella and taking her back. He almost sunk her into a guillotine chokehold, but the sweat and blood on their bodies made everything so slick that she slipped out, rolling and using her foot to kick him backwards before she kicked herself up to a standing position. Her heart pounded in her chest, a roar in her ears as her muscles screamed at her from all the exertion. The fight had been going on for at least ten minutes now. The amphitheater was quiet as they watched Lukas and Bella fight it out. No one knew in the stands that they were lovers, being forced to fight like this, they saw two strong fighters, where clearly one looked far stronger than the other, but neither had slipped up enough to finally be knocked out.
Bella felt her body quake as she pushed herself past limits that she had already pushed past before, but she kept fighting. Lukas was getting winded and tired. It was a challenge to keep up with Bella. He swung and she blocked and immediately went into chain punches into the face, busting his lip and blood splattered a little. It made him back off a little, enough to where Bella threw a spinning side kick into his stomach, taking the air out of him and she followed up with a spinning roundhouse kick to the face and that was it. Lukas saw stars and he hit the ground, dazed, wavering in and out of consciousness. He closed his eyes though, his body losing all it's energy to get back up and fight Bella.
Everyone erupted with cheers. Bella had emerged the victor. She had survived every round and had come out on top. The next rounds would be group fighting or that is what Eric has mentioned, but Bella didn't care. Right now she was worried about Lukas, but she saw his chest rise and fall.
Max stood, a smile plastered to his face. He looked over at Jeanine, who stood too and leaned over and said something in his ear and Max nodded. He grabbed the microphone that he had set to the side.
"The Sparring Games winner. Bella Prior everyone." Max said and everyone cheered louder. Eric was standing there, trying to keep his face emotionless, but he was proud of Bella, he wanted to smile too and congratulate her from emerging on top, but he stayed where he was. "Thank you everyone for joining us for the Sparring games. We lost some lives today, this was a test of willpower. As Dauntless we are faced with challenges everyday. Life or death situations. We protect this city at all costs. It is clear that Bella Prior is the champion we seek. She is the path to the future." He ended his speech and everyone continued to cheer. Max decided not to do the group spars since he had found what he was looking for. He found exactly what he needed, to expand Seattle. He found the person needed to brave a mission outside the wall.
