EO Ficlet Prompt: "It was only supposed to be one time."
Olivia ran her finger across the grainy, black and white image she held in her hands. She had expected the news, but she hadn't expected this news exactly.
"Liv?"
She took a deep breath before looking up at Elliot who was obviously just as shocked and she was. It had only taken one visit and one grainy image to change their world forever.
"It was only supposed to be one time." She knew what she had said didn't make a lot of sense exactly, but the grin on his face let her know he understood exactly what she meant.
He let out a little laugh, before running his hands along her arms. "That's what you said when the plus sign popped up."
"That was different, that was before—" she waved the picture at him, almost in disbelief at how calm he was. "That was when I was expecting to only see one. I never really thought we would get pregnant again, let alone with twins, again."
"Four kids under five," he mused to himself aloud and then chuckled, "hey, we're halfway to a baseball team."
She rolled her eyes at him before breaking out into laughter herself, "add in the big kids and we do have a baseball team. This is crazy. We're crazy."
"Yeah, we are." He smiled at her and pulled her into a hug before kissing her temple. "We can do this, Liv."
She leaned back to look at him, whispering, "I know."
"Team Benson-Stabler?"
She smiled as she ran her finger over the ultrasound photo clearly labeled with Baby A and Baby B. She thought of the two little twin girls at home and the four eldest children who brought her so much joy and love, and the nervousness began to fade away as the excitement took its place.
She nodded, grinning "Team Benson-Stabler." She leaned in and kissed him, but she pulled back quickly as a thought struck her, "but Elliot?"
"Yeah?"
"This is it." She heard him chuckle, and she rolled her eyes. "I'm being serious. I love our kids, all eight of them—" she paused, that will take some getting used to, she thought before continuing, "and I love being a mom, but Coach Mama says no more players."
"Okay."
"Okay?" She looked up at him, narrowing her eyes at his quick response.
"I get it Liv. I do." He tucked her hair behind her ear, "You know I love all of our kids, and I love experiencing this with you—" he dropped his hand down to her belly, "but I love you too, and I want what you want." He smiled and then grinned, "besides, having twins was only supposed to be one time."
"Elliot!" She smacked him playfully in the chest before laughing.
He laughed as he pulled her in for a hug and kissed the top of her head. "I love you, Olivia. I'm glad I get to this with you, again."
"Me too." She let her head rest against his chest as she took comfort in his embrace. "I love you too."
A/N:
I decided to take this one a little differently than everyone else. I saw the prompt, and Liv looking at ultrasound photo in absolute disbelief of being pregnant with twins for a second time, popped into my head. This is set somewhere after Fault, and they are married. He did divorce Kathy, and I choose to believe she is happy with a doctor whom she met and fell in love with.
I mean if anyone would have the luck of having two sets of twins, it would be our two favorite detectives in love.
