Chapter 2: Roaring Muscles-Training Begins!
I continued to bawl, having to hear the words I can be a hero from not just All might, but Sonia as well. It was like a dream come true, that they truly believe I can be one. Sonia approached me before kneeling and rubbed my back. "Let it out bud, probably have that backed up for a while."
"I…had that belief….for so many years…" I wheezed. "You have no idea…how much it meant to me…to hear those words…"
All Might spoke up next. "I deem you worthy of my power. My quirk is yours to inherit."
We both looked up at him. "Huh?"
He suddenly laughed. "You should see your faces right now. Don't worry kid, i'm not gonna force this thing on you." he approached us before pointing at me while coughing blood up. "Listen up kid! Do you want to accept my awesome power or not!?"
"Dude, does that happen often?" Sonia asked.
"I'm used to it." He replied while wiping his mouth. "There are some things you should know about my abilities. Many always guess my quirk is super strength, or some invulnerability. When people ask in interviews, I always make a joke and dodge the question. That's because the world needs to believe that their symbol of peace is a natural born hero. But I'm not. There's nothing natural about my abilities."
He threw his hands out with his head up. "I wasn't born with this power. It's a sacred torch passed onto me by someone else."
"Someone…gave you your quirk…No way." I gapped.
"Yes way. And you're next. I can give you my abilities." All might declared.
"Whoa wait, this is a lot to process." I spoke. "I mean many people talk about it online, its one of the worlds greatest mysteries." I forgot to mention about me, I always enter something I call my 'Mutter Marathon'. It happens when something really gets my thinking.
"Kid." Sonia shook me as I snapped from my mutter marathon as she grinned. "You're overthinking this."
"Yeah stop nerding out." All Might added. "You'll have to accept this reality. I can transfer my quirk to someone else. And thats just one of the facts of my secret abilities." He held his palm out before it radiated with a rainbow light. "The true name of my power is called One For All."
"One For All." I repeated in surprise.
"Yes. One person improves their power. Then hands it off to another person. It continues to grow as it passes along. It is this cultivated power that allows me to save those in need of a hero." The Japan pro explained while clenching his fist. "The truth behind my strength."
"But why me?" I asked. "What if I can't live up to it."
"I was on a long hunt for a worthy successor." The human pro answered. "Then, I watched you jump into action as the rest of us stood idly by. You maybe a fanboy, but you tried to save that girl. You acted like a hero."
"And with your new power awakened, you'll live up to the best expectations and be the hero you dreamed." Sonia smiled with a wink. "Pretty sweet right?"
I felt so many emotions running in me again as I teared up. All Might laughed while patting his head. "Seriously, you gotta stop crying so much if you want my quirk! Come on kid."
I gripped my leg as I covered my eyes with an arm. They had said so much to encouraged me, All Might even told me the secret to his powers. If they believed me that much, I knew I couldn't go back against them. I stood up as I gave them a firm expression. "Okay i'll do it!"
"No reluctance, I figured thats how you'd respond." All Might smirked.
"Good." Sonia grinned. "By the way, we never got your name."
"I'm Izuku Midoriya." I introduced myself.
Sonia nodded before she turned to All Might. "All Might, me and my friends have been looking for someone like Izuku for a bit. It's why we came to japan. Since we'll be working with him, I think it would be best you fill my friends in what you told us. In return, we'll explain our secrets too."
"Alright, you and your friends seem trustworthy from all the reports and blogs said about you." He replied. He turned back to me. "Get some rest Midoriya. Tomorrow i'll explain more about everything and your training."
"Oh right, my mom must be getting worried sick." I spoke. This is where everything would change, my first step forward.
Sonia found out about my account and messaged me the next morning for me to meet her, her friends and All Might. She told me to meet them at Dagoba Beach, a once beautiful area people have avoided after it was piled with trash. I mean it could be easily mistaken for a junkyard.
I arrived at the beach as I saw Sonia talking with All Might in his skinny form. I saw her friends as well, which I admit I fanned out in excitement. The first mobian was Millie 'Tails' Prower, which some call her the mechanic hero. She was also the brains of the main team as she creates a number of inventions to help with hero work or combat Eggmom.
The next one I saw was Amy Rose, a pink hedgehog known as the Hammer Hero. She was known to swing her massive hammer with deadly accuracy and power even hitting Eggmom's ship from a mile away with a good throw.
Finally was Knuckla, an echidna woman known as the Muscle Hero. Her strength was on par with Sonias speed, able to punch holes in solid steel and take tons of punishment. Those were the three of the many heroes on her team, and I'm gonna be meeting them soon.
I ran down the steps as Sonia noticed me and waved. "Yo! Izuku! You're finally here!"
"Sorry if I kept you waiting." I spoke.
"No worries." She mused as her friends approached. "I want you to meet three of my friends."
"I know who they are!" I beamed. "Millie 'Tails' Propwer, the mechanic! Amy Rose the hammer wielder! And Knuckla the Muscle of the team! Each of them have incredible feats to support you from defeating Eggmom from america! Their fame almost rivals to your own!"
"Well good to know we have such a dedicated fan even all the way here in Japan." Amy mused.
My face burned red when I realized my outburst before I poked my fingers together. "S-Sorry, it's a force of habit…"
Tails giggled. "He's almost as timid as Cream is."
"Yeah, still surprising he is the one we've been looking for." Knuckla remarked crossing her arms.
"Appearances can be deceiving." Sonia mused. "You should have seen him the other day when he handled the slime villain. His first go with the Chaos Force and held his own."
"So, why are we down here?" I asked to get back on track.
All Might buffed up. "This is where we'll be training young Midoriya."
"Huh?" I blinked.
"We talked last night about methods of training." Sonia explained. "So, we decided to split you up in two sessions. You'll train with All Might to develop yourself to inherit One For All, while me and my friends train you to handle and control the Chaos Force."
"Okay." I nodded.
"As of right now, you're not ready to inherit my power." All Might explained while he took a picture of me with his phone. "My quirk is a lot to handle. The combined physical abilities that everyone has used it makes a hurricane of pure force. An unprepared body can't fully inherit it. Your arms and legs would shoot off if you tried to."
"That's an image." Amy shuddered.
I shuddered at the thought and shook my head. "So then I imagine that the garbage around us will involve some kind of hardcore work out."
"Correct, and we'll be your coaches." Sonia grinned. "We did some online research yesterday about this beach. It used to be beautiful but became a mess after so many years."
"Oh yeah, because of the ocean currents anything drops in the water ends up here, people take advantage of that when they are illegally dumping their trash." I spoke. "Now the locals avoid this place."
"Heroes these days are all about showing off and catching flashy villains." All might spoke as he slapped his hand down on a refrigerator. "Things were different before quirks. Service is what mattered. Back then, heroes would help the community." He started pushing the fridge down as it crumbled. "Even if it was kinda boring!" He slammed down as the trash behind him blew away. "You'll restore the coastline in my set of training. This entire section of the beach. That is the first step on your path young man, to being a hero."
My eyes widened as I looked at the massive piles of junk and trash. "All this…there's so much…it's impossible."
"Don't you want to be a hero?" Tails asked me.
"...Yeah of course." I replied. "Besides, I want to go to UA, it's where All Might went." I put a hand where my heart is. "It's a longshot…but still. I'm gonna shoot for the moon. UA."
"You got a lot of spirit fanboy!" All Might laughed, making me blush. "But as I mentioned before, heroing isn't easy to do without a quirk. It's not fair, but that's the reality. And UA is the hardest hero course to get into. So that means…"
"I need to get my body ready for your quirk and learn the Chaos Force quickly. The UA exams are in ten months." I finished.
"No worries Izuku." Tails came up to me with a stack of papers. "I created this Aim to Pass American dream plan. Me and All might formulate it to work with your schedule."
"Follow this to the letter and the beach will be cleaned in no time!" All Might beamed.
I took the plans while examining it. "Meals, my school time. Even my sleep is scheduled."
"It isn't gonna be easy kid, You up to it?" Knuckla questioned.
I formed a wary but comident smile. "Yeah sure I am. I have to work way harder than anyone else to get in. So what other choice do I have?"
"That's the spirit!" Sonia grinned, slapping my back. Ow, even if speed is her thing, she still hits really hard. "Whoops hehe."
My 10 months of Hell would begin. The first few weeks, I worked on cleaning the beach with All Might, moving pieces of trash around with different muscle groups. All the while he motivated me like a proper coach would.
As for Sonia and the others, they taught me more about the Chaos Force and the powers I will be using and training with. They even taught me the secrets of unlocking new power, with the seven gemstones I saw in my vision, the Chaos Emeralds. They were items of incredible power and even one can do some serious damage. But when all seven gather around the user who can use or understand them, will gain ultimate power and become unstoppable forces of nature. It's something Eggmom tries to find pretty often but is always foiled by them.
In those weeks, I was getting exhausted from both training sessions, not to mention with school still important to my schedule. But thats where things are about to change.
I was aboard the X-Tornado with All Might as Tails flew it. "Remind us again where were going Tails?" I asked the mechanic.
"We're going somewhere special, someone there wants to meet you face to face." Tails answered.
"Who?" I questioned curiously.
"You'll see when we arrive." Amy mused.
The jet passed by some clouds. Before then, my eyes along with All Mights widened in shock and awe. Before us was a massive floating island that hovered above the seas. "Say hello to Angel Island you two." Sonia smirked.
"Holy crap…" The Japan pro hero breathed. "There is a whole island floating in the sky?"
"Wait till you see it up close." Knuckla grinned. The jet soon arrived before it landed. The domes opened as we jumped down. "Angel Island is a sacred place, so you two are the very first humans to ever set foot here."
"How is this place flying?" I asked. "Is it some kind of magnetic force or gravity phonomeon?"
"Follow us and you'll see." Sonia answered as they walked ahead. We followed them before we came to an ancient altar. "The source of it all is up there." We walked up the steps as my curiosity was peaking. When we got to the top, our eyes widened again. The very center of it was the biggest green diamond I ever laid eyes upon while it gave off a green humming glow.
"Whoa..never seen a gem so huge before." All Might gapped.
The others arrived as Knuckla spoke. "This is the Master Emerald. The commander of the Chaos Emeralds. Its been guarded and protected under my watch for many years, and from my people long ago."
"It's what keeps Angel Island in the sky, if it is ever taken out of its place it would plummet." Amy added.
The master emerald glowed as I heard the voices before. "We have been waiting for you, Izuku Midoriya."
"Huh?" I blinked. The emerald glowed brighter which shielded our eyes. When it faded, both of us saw another echidna girl but her fur was orange with ancient tribal attires. Next to her was a female water being with glowing green eyes and a brain within its head. "Whoa…"
"Who are you two?" All Might asked.
"I am Tikal, shaman of the Master Emerald like my grandmother before me." The echidna greeted with a bow.
"And I am Chaos, the deity of Destruction and guardian of the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds." The water being greeted. "It's nice to finally meet you Izuku."
"So…you're the one that chose me to inherit this chaos power?" I asked the female deity.
"Yes I am." She nodded.
"So its just like…" My idol from japan started.
"Yes, your quirk One For All." Tikal answered for him. He grew startled they know his secret as the echidna smiled. "Do not worry, we know of its importance. We will not dare leak this secret."
"Oh good." He breathed in relief. "So its just like my quirk then."
"But…why choose me?" I asked the pair. "I was born quirkless yet…you chose me to inherit this power."
"Izuku, it didn't matter if you had a quirk or not." Chaos spoke as she approached me. She set her water hand on my shoulder, which was pretty solid. "I chose you because of your passion, your heart and kindness." She smiled warmly. "You have a heart unlike any young child I have ever seen in your years. You always looked out to others, never to yourself. It's why I chose you to inherit this power, cause I know you will exceed my expectations."
The amount of shock and surprise continued to crash against me by this never ending support. Now the Goddess of the power I obtained believes in me. I teared up a bit while trying to sustain my emotions. Tikal smiled before approaching me and rubbed my back. "Do not worry Izuku, we'll always support you."
"Hehe he's pretty emotional." Sonia chuckled.
Chaos perked up before clapping her hands together. "I think I know just what you need Izuku."
"Huh?" I blinked. She turned to the master emerald before holding her hand out. It glowed before I saw something emerge from it. When it faded, a small group of creatures huddled in a pile. They were cyan with little yellow buds on their heads and pink wings in their backs.
"What are those things?" All Might asked.
"Those are Chao." Amy giggled. "They're very famous pets from our world. They're easy to raise, loyal, playful and very affectionate."
"Our friend Cream has one named Cheese." Tails added.
The chao yawned and rubbed their eyes before their eyes opened, little black orbs showing. They turned to me causing me to stiffen a bit as I waved sheepishly. "Uh…Hi." No second later, they started chirping happily and swarmed me, nuzzling me from every place. "Hey easy…hahaha!" I lost balance and fell, but they didnt stop hugging or snuggling me, it only made me laugh harder.
"Welp he acts like a beacon for those little guys." Knuckla mused.
"Huh, normally it takes days for a normal pet to be affectionate to its owner." The pro hero of Japan spoke. One of them took notice of him and flew up to his face. "Oh, hello-gah." He coughed up blood a bit, surprising the chao as he wiped his mouth. "Sorry."
The creature only smiled before it hugged his boney neck. "Chao chao."
Tikal giggled. "The Chao are able to sense the hearts of others, they are attracted to hearts of good people but avoid those with dark hearts."
All Might looked to the chao hugging him before smiling and rubbing its head. "Everyday you mobian heroes keep surprising me with the charms of your world."
"It's what we do." Sonia grinned with her hands behind her head.
Chaos came up to me while the chao group kept snuggling me. "Now that I know my children can trust you, I want to give you the offer of taking one with you as your companion."
"Really?" I blinked in surprise.
"I know you can take great care of one, and it can be a great friend to be with when you feel alone or scared." She spoke sweetly. "Not to forget they are very helpful."
The chao gathered around me while beaming with bubble expressions, wondering who I would choose. I scanned them before my eye caught one that looked a bit timid but I can sense the determination behind them. "I'll take that one."
It perked up when I gently took it in my hands. I smiled at it. "I can tell you're like me. Timid but you want to work hard and prove yourself. Let's work together from now on."
It beamed brightly. "Chao Chao!" the others smiled at its friend while they snuggled against me again.
"Izuku knows how to pick em." Amy giggled.
All Might chuckled. "Well Midoriya, you just continue to exceed my expectations. Just remember to keep up with your training, don't let this little critter distract you from it."
"I won't." I replied.
After that, my training continued. I met the others during my sessions and they were amazing heroes and friends. When I introduced my new chao friend to my mom, she was fawning all over it. And my chao took a liking to her as well.
The training was difficult, but I kept pushing forward, fighting the exhaustion, the pain in my body, and the mockery of my fellow students at school. My body was developing stronger muscles. And my body was getting more accustomed to the chaos force. Sonia and the others say that it has a passive effect on those who have it, boosting physical abilities as well as making them more durable and heal faster.
Fall arrived while I was carrying a heavy safe. All Might was riding on a segway while Sonia jogged next to him. I heaved and panted to keep up. But, my vision started to blur, my body was very weak. It finally gave out as I collapsed.
"Izuku!" Sonia called out as she stopped.
All Might turn back to me. "Hey hey kid look alive. We only got 3 months left before the exams. You want to give up after all this work? Flush it down the toilet and take it easy?"
I gritted my teeth while trying to get back up despite how exhausted I was. Sonia blinked. "He's overworked, All Might."
"The Aim to pass american dream plan was created with your body in mind, it was fined tune for your training to be swift but manageable." He spoke. "Which means you haven't been sticking to it."
"...I have to work harder…or I don't stand a chance against the others." I breathed. "I don't just want into UA….I want to excel. I want…to be like you two…" I managed to push myself up and looked up to them. "I want to be the greatest hero in the world. So I'll keep on trying, until I got what it takes to do that!"
All Might stared at me for a few moments before he went into buff mode and picked me up by the back of my jumpsuit. "That fighting spirit is what I like about you fanboy! It serves you well! We do get your concerns. Thats it, nows not the time to rush progress. Fear not! Me and Sonia will help you get back on track! Leave it to this old man to adjust your plan!"
"But you're not an old man…All Might." I replied weakly. He and Sonia laughed.
They did as they desired to set out and my training went smoothly. Finally, the remaining 3 months passed by quickly. Dagoba beach was finally done as the last of the trash was picked up. I stood at the top of the pile, overviewing the beach. "I…..did it…." my whole body was covered in sweat before I threw my head back and roared in the sky.
"Hey hey holy crap." All might spoke in shock as he and the others saw the results. "He cleaned out outside the area I told him too."
"There isn't a single speck of trash at all." Amy breathed.
"He had a few minutes left on the clock and excelled." Sonia marveled.
"He exceeded our expectations…Holy stinking…." All Might went buff mode. "Super Crap!" My body finally gave out as I fell forward. I was suddenly caught in my idols arms. "Excellent work."
"I finished everything." I smiled weakly. "All Might, Sonia… I did it."
"You did amazing bud." Sonia grinned as the others approached while All Might set me down. "We knew you had it, but this is beyond."
I smiled weakly before All Might held his phone out. "Look at this." I looked into it as I saw an image of me without the muscles. "It's you ten months ago."
Knuckla grinned. "An amazing improvement under such little time. You have amazing potential."
"There's still a long road ahead till you can inherit my full power, but its starting to look like you can do it!" My idol beamed.
I smiled and looked at my hand. "All Might, do I deserve this? Are you sure?" I started to tear up. "You guys helped me so much, how can I be so lucky?"
Sonia smiled as she came up and patted my back. "It was your effort that did all this. Not us, all we did was guide you."
"Now then, for your reward, Izuku Midoriya." All Might smiled.
"Yes sir!" I stated standing up straight.
He plucked a strand of his gold hair out. "Someone once told me, there's a difference between lucky and deserving. Once an accident, the other a reward. Never get the two confused. Take that to heart, young man. This gift, you earned it with your own valid efforts." I had a firm look as I clenched my fists. All Might held the strand of hair to me. "Eat this."
"Huh?" Me and the others blanched.
"To inherit my power, you have to swallow some of my DNA, that's how it works." He replied sheepishly.
"This isn't how I imagined it." I spoke with a sweatdrop.
"Come on, there's no time! You'll be late for the exams!" All Might stated while pushing the hair to my mouth. "Eat! Eat! EAT!"
"Gross." Amy gagged.
After that, I made it to the entrance, thanks to my new speed I obtained in my training with Sonia. I breathed in relief. 'Glad my training with the Chaos Force gave me more speed to get me where I need to go.' I thought while looking ahead. I cupped my mouth while remembering the taste of All Might's hair. "I may have swallowed the hair, but I don't feel anything from One For All yet."
"Stupid Deku." A familiar brash voice muttered out behind me. I turned and saw my old friend.
"Kacchan." I blinked.
"Get out of my way before I set you on fire." She threatened.
"Uh, good morning. Let's do our best." I replied sheepishly while she passed me. Ever since the slime villain attack Kacchan has been going easier on me. I don't know if its because she knows about my power from before or she's still recovering from it. But, because of my training, I wasn't scared of her anymore. …Okay maybe a little spooked but not terrified.
I took a deep breath as I made my way forward, but I slipped on a stone and fell forward. "Wah!" I braced, but I halted in mid air. "...huh?"
"You okay?" A girl's voice spoke beside me as I turned to see. She had a brown slight bowl cut look with two strands going down on each side of her head and pink cheeks. She wore a pink scarf and brown jacket with a skirt on. She giggled and helped me up while pushing her fingers together. "I stopped you from using my quirk. I'm sorry I didn't ask first, but im sure you wouldn't mind me catching you."
"Oh uh, I appreciate it. Guess it was a bit clumsy of me to almost fall flat on my face from something like that." I chuckled sheepishly. Being around Sonia and her friends I got use to talking to girls. Have not I would be silent and stunned to hell.
"No worries. Isn't this nerve wrecking though?" She asked me.
"A bit, but i'm looking forward to it." I smiled. "I trained hard to prepare for this exam and get into UA."
"Well, you got some good confidence." She giggled. "By the way, I'm Ochako Uraraka."
"Oh I'm Izuku Midoriya." I introduced myself.
"Nice to meet you Izuku." Ochako smiled. "Well, guess I'll see you inside." She waved and ran ahead.
"Uh bye." I replied back as she left. I processed what happened while feeling proud of myself. 'Whoa, I talked to a girl outside from Sonia and the others.' I gotta thank them for it because I'd look like an idiot.
After that, I went in as well and took the written exam. Tails made sure to keep me educated and assisted me with my studies with school and such so I didn't fall behind. She commented that I was very smart if my muttering fits are anything to go by.
After the written test was over, we were moved to another room as lights flashed down. "Whats up UA Candidates? Thanks for tuning in to me, your school DJ!" A man with sleek blonde hair, shades and a black outfit on, with a neck brace speaker combo. "Come on and let me hear ya!" Silence echoed the room. "...Keeping it mellow huh? That's fine, i'll skip to the main show. Lets talk about how this practical exam is gonna go down." He swung his hand up. "ARE YOU READYYY!? Yeah!" More silence echoed through the room.
"Holy crap thats the Voice hero, President Mic." I whispered while beaming. "He's so cool. I listen to his radio shows everyday. Its crazy that-"
"Will you shut up already?" Kacchan demanded next to me. Crap I was muttering again.
"Like your application said, you'll rock today boys and girls will be out there conducting ten minute mock battles in super hip urban settings." Mic announced. "After I drop the Mic, you'll head to your specific battle centers." Again, more silence. "Okay?!"
I looked at the card I was given after I finished the written exam. "I get it, they're splitting us up so we don't work with any of our friends." Kacchan mentioned.
"Your right, our examinee numbers are one after another but we are assigned to different battle centers." I added as I was in center B while Kacchan was in center A.
"Get your eyes off my card." She threatened as I blinked. "Dammit, I was looking forward to crushing you." I guess she never learns anything. Mic soon explained about our goal in the exam, which is to fight robotic villains in the test facility ranking from points 1 to 3. We have to destroy them and we'll earn points from them. He warned us not to attack other Examinees as it isn't very heroic.
"Excuse me sir, but I have a question." A young man spoke with his hand raised.
"Hit me!" President Mic shouted.
The light came on for him. He wore a cream colored uniform with glasses. His hair was slick and dark blue in color. "On the Printout, you listed four types of villains, not three. With all respect, if this is an error on official UA materials, it is shameful. We are exemplary students. We expect the best from Japan's noticeable schools. A mistake such as this won't do."
'Talk about being serious.' I thought with a sweatdrop.
"Additionaly you with the unkempt hair!" The boy snapped his finger to me as I blinked. "You've been muttering this entire time. Stop that. If you can't bother to take this seriously, leave. You're distracting the rest of us."
"...My bad." I spoke softly. Least im not being all flustered. Mic soon explained about the fourth villain, which he was about to get into before the kid asked. It was worth 0 points, it will just be an obstacle in our way. There is one in every battle center so it's recommended we should try to avoid it.
"Thats all I got for you today. I'll sign off with a little present. A sample of our school motto." Mic grinned. "You ready to go beyond? Let's hear a PLUS ULTRA! Good luck! Hope you practiced hitting more than just books!" I gripped my card as I could feel my heart pumping.
We dressed in our tracksuits and taken to each of our facilities. It wasn't what I expected. It was a massive city surrounded by a wall. This was it, time to put all the training I put into for this.
