Friendship is Magic: Lelouch of Equestria High
Part Two:
Fury of the Rising Sun
XXXXXXX
Lelouch finally put his little sister to bed. She always looked like a little angel when she slept. The last few days had been hard for her. Nunnally put up a brave front but Ruben Ashford's death hurt her. She could listen to him talk about their mother for hours.
On reflection, Lelouch had to admit the man's passing affected him too. All his plans to capture Clovis were now in the trash. He hoped to use the Ashfords' connections to the nobility to somehow corner the prince but that wasn't an option anymore. And his half-brother was too busy living it up in opulence with constant parties and art shows to visit a lowly public school. Perhaps he could use the Honorary Britannian students to somehow reach Clovis? Not the worse idea.
But this had to put aside for now. Nunnally needed him more than ever now. Without the Ashford's support, her care was entirely up to him. The school would pay the trailer's utilities and there would be meals during lunchtime. But groceries, clothes, health insurance, and entertainment were no longer guaranteed. Funds were needed.
Best get to work.
Lelouch closed the door to his sister's room. The housing Luna provided was larger than their previous quarters. Nunnally finally has her own room since leaving the homeland. That would make it easier for him to do anything unsavory without her knowing.
His age put him at a disadvantage. An office job wouldn't happen and he couldn't work the stock market. He could bring Luna in and have her buy and sell stocks on his orders but she still hadn't proved herself. This left Lelouch in a position he never desired – relying on random circumstance.
Time to check out the Want-Ads. There were the typical munitions factory positions and Sakuradite minors but those required thorough background checks. Something small scale would be better. A farmhand at a local apple farm? Working at daybreak would mean he couldn't fix Nunnally's breakfast. A miner at a rock quarry? He wouldn't last a day. Librarian for Crystal Prep High? Too far away. Creative director for the Wonderbolts aerial stunt show? Secondary education was required. A seamstress needed for a local fashionista? This could land him in the public eye and ruin his anonymity. Animal shelter attendant? Fairly easy work that wouldn't be too demanding…
No. It would be too time consuming and Nunnally would need his attention. He would need a way to make money fast quickly with no paper trail. Gambling would do. He would just have to find a way to set up matches. That shouldn't be too difficult. Britainnians do so love chess after all.
There was a knocking at the door.
Lelouch Lamperouge put down the newspaper and made his way to the door carefully. Who could this be? Luna wasn't supposed to visit him until tomorrow. He didn't have any weapons ready if this turned bad.
He looked through the peephole, frowned, then opened the door. It was Principle Celestia, Luna's older sister. Like her younger sibling, she had an almost regal beauty to her. Dressed in a conservative yellow jacket with a sun-shaped pin on the lapel and royal purple slacks, Celestia would catch the eye of many a noble if she wore more feminine clothing.
It was Celestia's demeanor that concerned Lelouch. It wasn't just that she was angry. That was to be expected. If her sister was caught harboring royalty then it could ruin both their lives. No, she was stressed and had been for some time. The signs were there. Her long flowing hair was splintered at the end from improper care, her fairly new heels had multiple scuffs from walking in a constant rush, and Celestia's brilliant eyes were faintly bloodshot. The principle tried to hide it but running a school in occupied territory was warring her down.
"Your highness," Celestia spoke coolly with a hint of spite.
"Principle Celestia," Lelouch responded courteously and unfazed. "Do come in."
"Right, I don't want some passerby to hear this."
"If you're here to vent, please remember that there is a little girl finally getting a goodnight's sleep after grieving. Ruben Ashford's passing hurt her."
Celestia's eyes narrowed. "I'll make certain not to wake her." She strode in and shut the door quietly but still forcefully.
"Tea? Or would you rather just get to giving the royal who doesn't have the power to punish you a verbal thrashing? I understand why you wouldn't want to complain about the crown online. It could be traced back to you and get you fired. It's so much safer for you to hurl insults at a fourteen year-old in private. That's what an adult in charge of children would do."
Celestia tightened her knuckles. "I am a generous caretaker to my charges, your highness. I make certain they are happy and safe while they receive an education. I've done so ever since his majesty conquered Japan and made this land a hellhole for younglings."
"If it'll make you feel better, Nunnally and I haven't been safe since we were born," Lelouch had a sly smile. "We've been dealing with this longer than you have. You'll learn to adapt or go insane from constant paranoia."
"With you here, I will never feel safe," Celestia said coldly, ignoring his passive aggression. "Your very presence here is a threat. I've already lost three people for a worthless noble. I refuse to lose anymore to a stupid royal."
"The people you lost were able to get your security up to par. The only way you'll lose anyone else is if you run your mouth. Your sister understands the seriousness of this. You should too, Principle; unless you want more kids to die."
The room got much colder. Celestia didn't bristle though. Her anger was as hot as the sun. "I am counting the days until you two leave!"
Lelouch brushed her off. "Stop counting because that won't end your troubles. You've had terrorist attacks before we arrived and you'll be having them after. Just accept it. That's the way the world is and we don't have the power to change it."
Celestia wanted to slug him right then but he was still a student. "You should be grateful I'm dedicated to my career and sister. That's the only reason you two are allowed here. Goodnight your highness." The last was said with utter disdain.
She stormed out, not bothering to meet Lelouch's gaze. Her opinion of him would have changed if she had. In his eyes was knowledge, not apathy. The boy wasn't numb. It was all he could do not to riot. But he didn't because it wouldn't matter. Don't fight unless you can win.
Lelouch would if he could but he can't. Right now Nunnally needed him; and he would never let her down.
With that, the former prince went back to the computer. He needed to find a job.

End Chapter Two…

Sorry this has taken so long to update. I've hammered out a rough blueprint for up to the first movie so for once I'm not making it up as I go along. I'll try and update this every month or two. The chapters aren't long so it should be easy.
There are things I wish I did differently with the first chapter. I've changed the title to something more catchy. At first I wanted Luna to be more like her Nightmare Moon phase with her just being on the edge of snapping but envy defines her and that wouldn't work in this setting since she has no one to be jealous of. Celestia though takes great pride in being the great caretaker to her charges so living in a dangerous country where she can't guarantee their safety would drive her nuts. Of course she would hate any children of Charles.
I think this story is going to be a lot of fun. It's doing a great job stirring my creative juices. Hopefully you all will enjoy what I have planned.
Until next time, read and review!
